A. Sneak Peek At The Footballguys Draft GM Mobile App

Big day for us today as we shipped off our new Draft GM Mobile App to the Apple Store for approval. The power of this App is incredible and we can't wait for you guys to be able to get this in your hands. It's a completely stand alone product separate from the Footballguys Insider Subscription. It has to go through the Apple Approval process which can take from 10 days to 6 weeks. (We're hoping for the shorter time).

You can see what we're doing with the screenshots and you'll see why we get excited.

A few more quick points.

  • The Draft GM app is a stand alone product and is not part of the Footballguys Insider Subscription. It will be available for purchase from the iTunes store.
  • The first versions of this will be for Apple iPads and iPhones. But Android versions are definitely in the plans for this season.
  • One software version for iPhone4, iPhone5, iPad Mini, and iPads allows one to synch leagues between all devices
  • Can store unlimited leagues / mocks
  • Handles IDP, Returners, Keepers, Trades, and Most scoring options
  • Once new data is downloaded, the app does not need to access the internet (In other words, you can draft in a cave)
  • Can refresh data all preseason

Be on the lookout for this soon - We'll let you know when it's available in the iTunes store.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski surgery minor, per agent

Source: NESN.com

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (forearm, back) back surgery, which he'll undergo soon, 'is a new injury and it's minor, it's not as significant [as his prior back injury],' said Drew Rosenhaus, Gronkowski's agent, during an appearance on Miami's WQAM radio. 'I think it's more preventive maintenance than anything else.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The back surgery is considered minor but it's yet another procedure that has fantasy owners worried. Gronkowski may not be ready for the start of training camp but at this time most feel he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.

MIN - WR Cordarrelle Patterson to be eased in

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Dan Wiederer

The Minnesota Vikings plan on easing rookie WR Cordarrelle Patterson into action behind Greg Jennings and Jerome Simpson, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. Along with a trial in kick returning, Patterson will get looks that 'utilize his strengths.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Patterson is extremely talented but it doesn't sound like he's going to be a big part of the offense early on. As he continues to develop he should see his role with the team grow. Patterson may be too good to keep off the field.

WAS - QB Robert Griffin III throwing off back foot

Source: Washington Examiner - John Keim

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) has begun throwing, planting his feet, and taking seven step drops. Griffin threw to WR Pierre Garcon, TE Fred Davis and RB Roy Helu. "Those are guys we'll lean heavily on in the season," Griffin said. "I'll build chemistry with them and get a feel for how Jordan and Chris play and continue to work with Fred and get back with Pierre. He's the guy… I want to make sure me and him are on the same page. He's a big-play receiver who can do a lot of things. It's good to see him back healthy and doing a lot of stuff."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More good news for Griffin here. All reports about his recovery this offseason has been positive and he's on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller leader for starting job

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has a leg up on the competition to start at running back in 2013 although Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin considers the competition wide open, and Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee, Jonas Gray and Marcus Thigpen also are all competing for the starting job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller should have no problem winning the starting job as he's clearly the most talented back on the roster. He's got the big play ability to score anytime he touches the ball. Miller is also an underrated receiver out of the backfield. Thomas and Gillislee will compete to be his primary backup in 2013.

CLE - More on RB Trent Richardson

Source: Twitter

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) said his shin injury is not a big deal. "Ain't no biggie," he said. "Ain't nothing to worry about. I could be out there, but they want to be cautious about it and just make sure I'm healthy when it's time to be right, and be right for (training) camp."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not a big deal for Richardson but fantasy owners certainly are concerned. Richardson failed to stay healthy last year as a rookie and isn't yet 100% this offseason. If he can play up to his potential then Richardson could perform like a top 5 fantasy RB under Norv Turner.

ATL - Mike Smith talks up RB Steven Jackson's receiving

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith called RB Steven Jackson a 'big strong running back that catches the ball extremely well. ... He's a guy who had close to 100 catches in a season, so he's a guy that we can use in the passing game.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson coming on board with the Falcons is a strong move. Fantasy owners consider Jackson as a borderline top 10 fantasy RB in 2013. His current ADP is RB11 and he's coming off the board early in the second-round of 12 team drafts.

DEN - Won't bring RB Montee Ball along slowly

Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said the team is expecting big things from rookie RB Montee Ball this season. "Coach [John] Fox is not going to bring him along slowly. We are going to put him in there and make him a contributor this year. So, the more repetitions we can get out here talking football, talking scenarios, I think the more comfortable he'll be once the regular season gets here."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An important note for fantasy owners here. Ball is the back the team wants to be the starter but they're not going to hand him the starting job. Right now it's second-year RB Ronnie Hillman getting a majority of the first-team reps. If Ball continues to impress then we could see him get more time with the starting unit in training camp.

WAS - RB Alfred Morris looking better this camp

Source: Washington Examiner - John Keim

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RB Alfred Morris has impressed him with his mindset following his stellar rookie season. Morris gained 10 pounds but has already lost five and has kept up good shape so far.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Morris thinks he left a lot of yards on the field in 2012. He rushed for over 1,600 yards as a rookie and we'll see if he can at least duplicate those numbers this season.

CAR - WR Steve Smith wants to play a few more years

Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith said he wants to play 15 or 16 years in his career, which would take him through the 2015 season or the 2016 season. Smith said he feels great physically, and head coach Ron Rivera said he believes Smith is still at the top of his game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith hasn't seen his game drop-off just yet. He finished last year as the 19th best WR in fantasy football. Right now his ADP is WR28 and he's coming off the board near the end of the sixth-round in 12 team leagues.

MIN - WR Greg Jennings expected to practice next week

Source: 1500ESPN.com - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said WR Greg Jennings (ankle) should participate in organized team activities Tuesday, June 4. Jennings said the injury is a non-issue at this point because it is the offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see how Jennings fits in the Vikings offense. They added him through free agency and drafted Cordarrelle Patterson in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft. With Percy Harvin in Seattle we'll see a new look passing game for the Vikings in 2013.

SD - WR Vincent Brown expected to have big role

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle) is expected to be a major focal point on offense this season. He was building a strong chemistry with QB Philip Rivers before his injury, and the two are expected to work on their chemistry during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown may be a forgotten man for some fantasy owners. He is an incredible route runner with strong hands and good run after the catch ability. Brown could be the team's WR2 starting opposite Danario Alexander. He could also play the slot position if need be.

NYJ - QB Mark Sanchez plans on starting

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez said he plans on starting Week 1 of the 2013 season, and does not see himself being a backup. 'I plan on playing. I plan on starting. I don't plan on it (being backup) happening,' Sanchez said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez is talking the talk but let's see if he can walk the walk when training camp rolls around. He lost his confidence as a passer and has struggled mightily over the last two years. We'll see if he can hold off Geno Smith for the starting job.

CLE - TE Jordan Cameron practices

Source: Twitter

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron (groin) returned to practice Thursday, May 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron is considered the starting TE for the Browns as we near training camp. The former USC basketball star has good upside working under new OC Norv Turner. It was Turner who featured Antonio Gates during his time in San Diego. We'll see if Cameron can outperform expectations in 2013. His current ADP is TE19 and he's coming off the board at 13.10 in 12 team leagues.

IND - TE Coby Fleener progressing

Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener caught a pair of deep balls from QB Andrew Luck in practice Wednesday, May 29. Fleener said he's remembering more and more of the traits from new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, who ran the West Coast offense Fleener ran with Luck at the Stanford helm. Hamilton is expected to involve the position more often than his predecessor, Bruce Arians, did.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Fleener and Dwayne Allen should be heavily featured in 2013. The Hamilton system is built on more underneath routes than the Arians offense was. We'll see who emerges as a favorite target for second-year QB Andrew Luck. Fleener has the chemistry and knows the system but Allen is the more physically talented.

NYJ - RB Mike Goodson impresses

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jane McManus

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson looked good while participating in organized team activities Thursday, May 30, catching passes and showing quick feet to beat defenders. 'You see the speed that he has,' head coach Rex Ryan said. 'That's what jumps out at me anyway. He had the ball in the open field a couple times, and you see the acceleration that he has. That's been impressive.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goodson's spot on the roster is not guaranteed but at least he's doing his best to impress the team. He was arrested earlier this month on gun and drug charges. The team is likely to let the legal process work itself out before deciding Goodson's fate.

NYJ - QB Mark Sanchez lost confidence in 2012

Source: New York Daily News - Seth Walder

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said QB Mark Sanchez lost some confidence in 2012. "I think it's safe to say maybe some of his confidence was shaken a little bit last year," said Ryan. "I think he's done a nice job this offseason. I think he's in great shape. Is he more accurate with the football? I'm not sure what the numbers will say, I really don't know."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Sanchez needs to get his swagger back if he's going to beat out Geno Smith for the starting job. This is a battle that could last through training camp.

NYG - Tom Coughlin disappointed in WR Hakeem Nicks

Source: New York Post - Bart Hubbuch

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin isn't pleased at the absence of WR Hakeem Nicks from OTAs. 'Certainly, I'm disappointed,' Coughlin said. He said that Nicks 'at one point' told him he would attend them but backed out without giving a reason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All can be forgiven if Nicks shows up for mandatory workouts and stays healthy in 2013. Nicks has the ability to be a top 10 fantasy WR but injuries have held him back over his pro career.

DEN - Being cautious with Morenop>

Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox said the team would take a cautious approach with RB Knowshon Moreno as he comes back from the knee injury he suffered in the playoff loss to the Ravens. "We're going to be very cautious. When the doctors give him the full-go, go-ahead, he'll be doing everything."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos backfield is a bit of a mess right now. Rookie Montee Ball (Wisconsin) may be the starter with second-year RB Ronnie Hillman serving as the primary change of pace back. Moreno could make the final roster but he may be on the roster bubble. We'll see what the team decides to do with both Moreno and Willis McGahee. The team would save more if they released McGahee ($2MM) instead of Moreno ($945k).

DEN - Manning thinks his arm is stronger

Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning thinks his arm is stronger this offseason. "I think that I've made some progress definitely since last year at this time. I think also some since last season. I think oftentimes when you know more about the receiver that you're throwing to, you have more repetitions with each guy, I think that usually allows for hopefully more accuracy and more confident throws, if you will. The more repetitions I can get with [WR] Eric [Decker], D.T. (WR Demaryius Thomas), [WR Andre] Caldwell, [RB] Ronnie Hillman, [TE Jacob] Tamme, [WR Wes] Welker, the better that is for everybody, I think."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More good news about Manning's arm strength here. The improved weapons around him should only help him in 2013. The team is using an up tempo offense under new OC Adam Gase. That pace, plus an improved ground game could help Manning perform even better than he did last year. Fantasy owners have taken note. Manning's current ADP is QB3, and he's coming off the board at 3.09 in 12 team leagues.

DEN - TE Joel Dreessen had offseason surgery

Source: The Denver Post - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos TE Joel Dreessen (knee) underwent offseason arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will miss the rest of the team's offseason workouts, including the mandatory minicamp in June. TE Julius Thomas will see increased repetitions in the absence of Dreessen.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dreesen should be ready for the start of training camp. The procedure was considered minor and shouldn't hold him back in August. In the meantime Julius Thomas was making big plays with the Broncos first-team at minicamp.

NYG - WR Rueben Randle impressing

Source: Giants.com - Michael Eisen

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle is impressing at organized team activities. Randle has lined up with the first team due to WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks not attending practices. "He's moving in that direction," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "He certainly has had many, many opportunities, and if there's a guy that really has a chance to step his game up and really show what he can do, it's happening right now for Rueben."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Randle has been able to flash his big time ability since Nicks and Cruz are missing workouts. We'll see if he can beat out veteran Louis Murphy for the team's WR3 job in 2013.

NYJ - WR Ben Obomanu receives a lot of reps

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Ben Obomanu received a lot of reps during organized team activities Wednesday, May 30, including some with the first-team offense. Obomanu also worked as a kick returner during the workout.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The team is limiting the number of reps for second-year WR Stephen Hill as he comes back from his knee injury. WR1 Santonio Holmes is also missing minicamp because of a foot injury.

KC - WR Dexter McCluster able to take reps at OTAs

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster (hamstring) was able to participate in some reps during organized team activities Wednesday, May 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCluster is an explosive playmaker and the team will be cautious with this injury as he comes back. Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated and cared for properly.

KC - WR Dwayne Bowe takes part in OTAs

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (leg) participated in organized team activities Wednesday, May 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowe has big goals for 2013 and will be the primary target in the Chiefs passing game. His current ADP is WR15 and he's coming off the board at 4.09 in 12 team leagues.

WAS - WR Leonard Hankerson healthy

Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said WR Leonard Hankerson is fully healthy for the first time in his career. The team is expecting Hankerson to develop more this year.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hankerson has good size, wingspan, and leaping ability to be a quality red zone target. We'll see if he can finally start playing up to his potential in 2013. Keep an eye on him through camp and make sure his name is on your waiver wire speed dial.

OAK - Likely will give WR Jacoby Ford chance to contribute

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

The Oakland Raiders likely will give WR Jacoby Ford (foot) a chance to contribute on offense this season if his foot injury has healed. The team could consider releasing him if he continues to struggle with the foot injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ford is a big play WR but he needs to stay healthy. The Raiders WR corps is full of potential but many players come with durability concerns. Ford will compete with Juron Criner for playing time behind Rod Streater and Denarius Moore.

WAS - OLB Brian Orakpo feels fresh

Source: ESPN.com

Washington Redskins LB Brian Orakpo (pectoral) said he feels fresh, and is fully healthy. 'I feel fresh,' Orakpo said after the sixth out of nine organized team activity sessions. 'I feel great. I'm 100 percent. They're not holding me back. I'm out here doing my thing. It (stinks) to miss a year, but when you miss a year, you get to rejuvenate your body, let everything else that was nagging you heal up (too). It's kind of a gift and curse.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fresh Orakpo is a dangerous Orakpo. We've seen pass rushers like Elvis Dumervil (Ravens) come back from a similar injury and pick up where they left off. Expect Orakpo to look like he did, and maybe better than ever, in 2013.
