NE - TE Rob Gronkowski will undergo surgery Monday

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday, May 20, on his injured forearm. The doctors are expected to take cultures from his forearm to see if the infection is still there. If there is no infection, the plate in his forearm will be replaced and Gronkowski would start a 10- to 11-week rehab process. The plate will not be replaced if there is still signs of an infection.

Gronkowski could have a fifth surgery on the forearm if an infection is there. He also has to undergo minor back surgery but the doctors didn't want to schedule his surgeries too close together. Sources close to Gronkowski say he'll be ready for training camp but nothing is set in stone.

MIA - Mike Gillislee will compete for starting job

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins RB Mike Gillislee is expected to compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee is a good all-purpose back and was praised in college at Florida for his pass protection skills. He gets stronger as the game goes on and averaged 2.0 yards after contact per rush in the second half of games last year compared to 1.5 yards after contact per rush in the first half.

PHI - Vick working on ball security

Source: Sheil Kapadia - Phillymag.com

Sheil Kapadia, from Phillymag.com, reports Eagles QB Michael Vick says new head coach Chip Kelly has shown him a new way to hold the football when he runs. "The other day, I broke out in the pocket, and the first thing Chip told me was to tuck the football," Vick said. "So I showed him how I was running with it, and he looked at it and he knocked the ball right out of my hands. And he was like, 'Hold it like this.' And what he told me felt comfortable. I had a tighter grip on the football. That should secure that problem as long as I work on it."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ball security has been an issue with Vick during his time with the Eagles. He's set to run more under Kelly than he did under Andy Reid last year and ball security is paramount for his success on the ground. Vick is competing with second-year QB Nick Foles for the starting job in 2013.

CLE - Jordan Cameron could have big role in offense

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

The Cleveland Browns plan to throw a lot to TE Jordan Cameron this season. Cameron has been targeted on several deep passes during organized team activities.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron is a sleeper prospect to keep an eye on. He's a former basketball star at USC and has a little Jimmy Graham (Saints) to his game. Cameron has failed to get much of an opportunity during his two seasons in the NFL. Entering year three we could see him win the Browns starting job. His current ADP is TE20 and he's coming off the board at the end of round 13.

TEN - Think they can do more with TE Delanie Walker

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Dan Pompei

The Tennessee Titans believe they will be able to do more with TE Delanie Walker this season than what they did with TE Jared Cook last season. The team believes Walker can line up on the outside but also be an inline blocker in the running game and run more traditional tight end routes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker is a versatile player who can be create mismatches when he's on the field. He needs to get over the dropsies as sometimes his concentration wanes as a receiver. He had six drops in 2012 and a dropped 18.2 percent of his targets last year.

TB - Coach not ruling out Mike Glennon starting

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Dan Pompei

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he believes QB Mike Glennon can play quickly and has not ruled out the possibility of Glennon taking over the starting job over QB Josh Freeman. 'We have a starting quarterback. It's not like we're looking to find a starter. But competition is competition. Mike Glennon is a fierce competitor. I knew that when he was coming out of high school. Now being able to work with him a little, you can see it on the practice field,' Schiano said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schiano is being coy here. Freeman is the starter and it would be a shock to see Glennon win the starting job in training camp. He's got a big arm but accuracy and decision making are problems for the rookie from NC State. Glennon also has a hitch in his dropback and his footwork needs to be cleaned up. He reminded some in the scouting community of Derek Anderson (Panthers) during the pre-draft process.

ARI - Coach high on QB Carson Palmer

Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he likes the deep pass QB Carson Palmer will be able to bring to the team. 'He's tough as nails. As good a deep-ball thrower as I've ever seen. I mean really accurate on the deep ball. He still has it. What he did last year with the [Oakland Raiders], in a crazy situation, I thought was very, very impressive,' Arians said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Arians loves QBs who can play in his vertical offense. Palmer isn't the same player he used to be but still has a strong arm to stretch the field. Questions abound about the Cardinals O-Line and whether they'll be able to protect Palmer adequately while the downfield routes develop.

DEN - DC thinks Rahim Moore over playoff performance

Source: The Associated Press

Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio said he believes FS Rahim Moore has gotten over his struggles during the Divisional round of the playoffs. CB Champ Bailey said Moore is over the playoff game and is ready for the 2013 season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Many Broncos fans made Moore the scapegoat for the playoff loss to the Ravens. However, most overlook the play of CB Tony Carter on the 70-yard TD catch by Jacoby Jones. Moore failed to break up the pass but it was Carter who played too close the line of scrimmage and let Jones run by him.

TB - Several in mix for No. 3 WR job

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Stephen Holder

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WRs Tiquan Underwood, Kevin Ogletree, Steve E. Smith and Chris Owusu are expected to be candidates for the No. 3 wide receiver job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Underwood may be the frontrunner in this competition. He's worked with head coach Greg Schiano since their days together at Rutgers. Owusu may be the sleeper player here. If he can stay healthy Owusu has a nice size/speed combination and arguably the highest upside of any of these players.

NFL - QB Charlie Batch not retiring

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Alan Robinson

Free-agent QB Charlie Batch (Steelers) said he is not ruling out playing for a team this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Batch may not get a spot on a roster for training camp, but will be on team's speed dial in case of emergency. He can provide a team with solid veteran depth and be a spot starter if injuries strike at the top of the depth chart.

PIT - WR Jerricho Cotchery could have bigger role early

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Alan Robinson

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Jerricho Cotchery could have a bigger role early in the season as a possession receiver if TE Heath Miller (knee) is not ready to play.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cotchery is a seasoned vet who can work the underneath routes to get open. Even if he gets a bigger role due to Miller's knee injury we're not expecting him to be a startable fantasy option in 2013.

DET - S Charles Woodson open to joining team

Source: MLive.com - Anwar Richardson

Free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) said he is willing to sign with the Detroit Lions if he is comfortable with the salary.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woodson has seen interest rise in his services over the last week. He's gotten offers from the Broncos and the Raiders, plus he's generated interest from the Giants and the Panthers.

WAS - Four RBs likely to compete for roster spots

Source: CSNWashington.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins RBs Roy Helu, Evan Royster, Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison are expected to compete for two roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp. Helu and Thompson are expected to compete for one spot while Royster and Jamison are expected to compete for the other roster spot.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Helu is a good all-around back but injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential. Thompson is a big play back who can score anytime he touches the ball. He has to prove he's back his knee surgery and is expected to be ready for contact by the start of training camp. Royster is the biggest back here, but lacks the balance and short area quicks of Jamison.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell's understanding of offense will decide role

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's chance at starting this season will be determined by how quickly he will be able to pick up the offense. If Bell struggles to learn the offense, RB Jonathan Dwyer or RB Isaac Redman could start.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Like all rookies Bell must prove that he knows the playbook and can pass protect. Bell is the favorite to win the starting job in training camp. He has build up speed and can make defenders miss in the open field. Bell lacks instant power but is tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam.

PIT - Markus Wheaton will miss workouts

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton will not be able to participate in any of the offseason workouts because Oregon State does not finish classes until after the end of organized team activities.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wheaton is one of our favorite receivers in this draft class. He's got speed, body control, and strong hands. Wheaton is a savvy route runner who can gain separation and make difficult catches seem routine.

CLE - Dion Lewis could have a few roles

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Terry Pluto

Cleveland Browns RB Dion Lewis could be used as a third-down back because the team likes his speed. The team could also consider using him as a kick returner.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis is a different back from the others on the Browns roster because of his size and speed. He's built low to the ground and runs with good balance, patience, and vision. Lewis could be a decent change of pace option behind starter Trent Richardson.

NYJ - Did not show interest in QB Brian Hoyer

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

The New York Jets did not express interest or make an offer to Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer before he signed with the Browns.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets may look to add another QB for training camp since David Garrard had to retire. Hoyer wasn't an upgrade over guys like Greg McElroy so there's no reason for the Jets to have interest.

MIA - Dion Jordan expects clearance by camp

Source: FOXSports.com - Alex Marvez

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan (shoulder) said he expects to receive medical clearance to participate by the time training camp begins.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting Jordan on the field will be a boost for the pass rush. He's an explosive pass rusher with good first step quickness and snap anticipation. Jordan had five sacks last season at Oregon, none of which came against a double-team. He was the only one of the top 10 DE/DT/OLB prospects with at least a 90 grade by Scouts, Inc. to not have a sack against a double-team.
