JAX - Justin Blackmon suspended

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has been suspended four games by the NFL.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some teams just can't catch a break. Jacksonville was already struggling and losing a player like Blackmon is the last thing they need. As the ESPN article stated, "besides Blackmon, the Jaguars' receiving corps is led by Cecil Shorts III, who led the team in receiving yards (979) and touchdowns (7), and includes veterans Jordan Shipley and Mohamed Massaquoi. The team also drafted former South Carolina receiver Ace Sanders in the fourth round of last week's draft." This certainly doesn't help QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne either.

Blackmon admitted he made a mistake. 'I've made a mistake and I have no excuse. I am sorry & disappointed in myself for putting the Jaguars in this situation'

NFL - Tim Tebow clears waivers

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Jets) cleared waivers Tuesday, April 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now that Tebow has cleared waivers he's free and clear to sign with any team in the league. He should draw a little interest on the open market but could perhaps be looking at a position switch in the near future.

WAS - Robert Griffin III doing some running

Source: The Associated Press

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) said he is able to run a little bit.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More good news for Griffin here. All the reports this offseason have been positive about his recovery from knee surgery. The team is hoping that he'll be ready sometime in training camp and by week one of the regular season at the latest.

NYJ - Geno Smith fires agent

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Geno Smith fired his agents after his stock dropped in the first round of the NFL draft. 'I don't want to shed too much light on it," Smith said on Sirius radio on Tuesday about firing his agents. "The thing that I can tell you is that it's not because of the whole draft experience. It's not because of one particular incident. There's a number of things. And that story, you know, that battle will be fought on a different day. As of right now, I don't feel too comfortable talking about all the details of it.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith made a few mistakes in the pre-draft process. His first (and perhaps biggest) mistake was deciding not to participate in the Senior Bowl. He was not the clear cut number one QB and participating in that game would have given teams an insight into what kind of game he had. Eric Fisher (Chiefs) became the number one overall pick partly because of the impressive week he had in Mobile which helped elevate his stock.

To his credit, Smith said he is not upset with where he was selected in the Draft. "First and foremost, I want to make it known that I was never bitter about where I was selected because it's a great selection," Smith said. "Like I've always stated, whether it was one or the last pick of the draft, I was going to come in with the right mentality and that's to get better and compete daily. I'm extremely ecstatic to be a part of the Jets organizationů I'm glad they picked me where they did."

NYJ - Coach talks about viable options at quarterback

Source: New York Daily News - Seth Walder

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team has viable options at quarterback heading in to 2013 that it did not have in previous seasons. 'Maybe there wasn't viable options before. Well there's certainly viable options now,' Ryan said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That means Geno Smith. We're expecting the rookie to compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting job in training camp and it wouldn't surprise us to see him win the job. Smith is an intelligent player with the athleticism to do something with the ball when the play breaks down. Unlike Sanchez, Smith has incredibly confidence in his ability and wants to prove his critics wrong. We'll see if he can do that in 2013.

NYG - Victor Cruz becoming concern

Source: New York Post - David Satriano

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin admitted WR Victor Cruz's contract situation was becoming a concern.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if this 'concern' does anything to accelerate the process. The team was looking to sign Hakeem Nicks to a new long-term deal before signing Cruz to his new contract.

NYJ - Likely QB Mark Sanchez is on the roster past May

Source: New York Post - Bart Hubbuch

New York Jets general manager John Idzik said there is no guarantee QB Mark Sanchez is on the roster past June 1, but it is likely he will still be with the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez signed an extension last offseason and there's still $17MM in dead money on his contract. He has a $12.8MM cap number this year and would count $4.3MM against the cap if released.

NYJ - Chris Ivory contract details

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory's new deal will see him paid $750K in 2013 and $1 million in 2014 in the first two years of a three year deal.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ivory will be in the mix for the Jets starting job. He'll compete with free agent addition Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell. We'd consider Ivory the favorite at this point if he can stay healthy. He's got some shades of Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks) to his game.

HOU - Coach expects DeAndre Hopkins to play early

Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak expects WR DeAndre Hopkins to play very early in 2013. 'It's gonna be a very competitive situation but we took him there because we expect him to play very, very early,' Kubiak said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We wouldn't be surprised to see Hopkins step in and start from day one. He reminds many in the scouting community of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his crisp routes and strong hands. Hopkins is the perfect fit opposite Andre Johnson. Fantasy owners should consider Hopkins a WR4 or WR5 with upside in 2013.

BAL - LT up for grabs

Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said the starting left tackle position is a fluid situation. Fifth-round pick OT Ricky Wagner could be in the mix.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens may also consider bringing back free agent left tackle Bryant McKinnie. They need to find the right starter to help protect Joe Flacco's blind side.

PIT - Markus Wheaton to play multiple spots

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley said he expects third-round pick WR Markus Wheaton to play both inside and outside. The team likes the speed he possesses.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the addition of Wheaton in Pittsburgh. He's got the speed and quickness to get off the line of scrimmage in a hurry. Wheaton is adept at catching the ball in stride and is dangerous after the catch because of his strong plant foot explosion when he makes a break.

NYJ - Rex Ryan was OK with CB Darrelle Revis trade

Source: New York Daily News - Seth Walder

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he was behind the decision to trade that sent CB Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers once he realized there was no long term solution to the situation. 'When it became clear we were not going have a long term solution...I was behind that (decision.)'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets were going to lose Revis (and get nothing for him) if they didn't deal him this year. They'll try to replace Revis in the lineup with first-round pick Dee Milliner (Alabama).

NFL - OLB Dwight Freeney lowers price

Source: The Denver Post - Jeff Legwold

Free-agent DE Dwight Freeney (Colts) is seeking a contract close to the two-year, $8.5 million deal Atlanta Falcons DL Osi Umeniyora received. He originally wanted $8 million a year, and then $6 million a year. Interest has been sparse.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeney may have to lower his price further if he wants his market to heat up. He's coming off two down seasons and isn't the same player he used to be. The Broncos could still have interest in Freeney since they lost Elvis Dumervil (Ravens) in free agency.
