DAL - QB Tony Romo to be more involved

Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said that QB Tony Romo will have more involvement than any player since QB Troy Aikmen. Head coach Jason Garrett said it will be no more than any other veteran quarterback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perhaps more freedom for Romo will increase his comfort as a passer. Fantasy owners can wait until the top of round eight to nab Romo as his current ADP is QB12.

NYJ - Appears QB David Garrard is retiring

Source: Twitter

It appears that New York Jets QB David Garrard (knee) is preparing to retire as he continues to have knee issues. 'Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do,' Garrard said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The QB position in New York is going to come down to Mark Sanchez versus second-round pick Geno Smith. Anything can happen in training camp, but Smith should be able to make a strong case for himself as the starter.

CHI - RB Matt Forte preparing for bigger receiving role

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte is preparing for a bigger role in the passing game this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to take note here. The Marc Trestman offense is going to do wonders for the Bears offense. Obviously Forte is a key piece for the offense and will be featured as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The Bears upgraded O-Line and added weapons in the passing game should only help open up rushing lanes in 2013. Forte's current ADP is RB14 and he's coming off the board at the beginning of round two.

NYJ - QB Mark Sanchez should have edge on starting job

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets starting QB Mark Sanchez should have an edge on the starting quarterback job over QB Geno Smith after the news of QB David Garrard possibly retiring today, according to former head coach Herm Edwards. 'This is now Mark Sanchez's job to lose,' Edwards said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez may have the edge because of his experience. Smith has better confidence than Sanchez and will be fueled by the fact that he fell to the second-round of the 2013 NFL draft. Anything can happen, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Smith win the starting job.

BUF - Stevie Johnson feeling better

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (back) said his strained back is getting better but that he is not sure when he will receive clearance to return to practice. Johnson has sat out the organized team activities this week because the injury but has been able to do things in the weight room.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team won't rush Johnson back from his latest injury. He should be ready to participate by the time training camp starts in August.

KC - WR Dwayne Bowe has high expectations for offense

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe said he expects to lead the NFL in receptions and receiving touchdowns in 2013, and that RB Jamaal Charles will lead the league in rushing this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs offense has been energized by new head coach Andy Reid. We'll see what kind of chemistry can be established between Bowe and new QB Alex Smith.

IND - Vick Ballard favored as starting back

Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Indianapolis Colts RB Vick Ballard is expected to enter training camp as the team's No. 1 running back, but that doesn't mean RB Donald Brown will not also see playing time. Head coach Chuck Pagano sees Ballard as a player who gets stronger as the game wears on, while Brown is considered more of a home run hitter for the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sounds like the Colts are going to use a RBBC featuring Ballard as the lead back and Brown as the change of pace back. Ballard's current ADP is RB28 and he's coming off the board near the end of round five.

CAR - Restructure RB DeAngelo Williams' deal

Source: Yahoo! Sports - Brian McIntyre

The Carolina Panthers restructured RB DeAngelo Williams' contract. He was in the third season of a five-year, $43 million contract and was scheduled to earn $5 million with an $8.2 million salary cap number for 2013. Williams will still receive $5 million in cash this year, but the deal has been restructured in a way that reduces his cap number to $5 million, a cap savings of $3.2 million that leaves the team $8.46 million under their adjusted 2013 salary cap number of $126.232 million. Williams was scheduled to earn $4.75 million in non-guaranteed base salary with a $250,000 workout bonus this season. Under the renegotiated contract, Williams' base salary was lowered to $850,000 and his workout bonus reduced to $150,000. The remaining $4 million was converted to a signing bonus, which will be prorated against the Panthers' cap at $800,000 per season through 2017.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This move should keep Williams from being a post June 1st cut. His role has been reduced and he'll play as the second RB in the team's RBBC alongside Jonathan Stewart.

NYG - Victor Cruz lowers demands

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz has lowered his demands to closer to what the team is offering. The team is believed to be offering nearly $8 million a year. There is optimism a deal will get done, but nothing is imminent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cruz wanted WR1 money (around $11MM annually) but now seems to be willing to renegotiate. He's certainly outplayed his first contract as the team found Cruz as an undrafted free agent out of UMass. Something should get done before the start of training camp if not sooner.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald to move around

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald will be lined up in different spots this year, sometimes working in the slot with WR Andre Roberts on the outside.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In the Arians offense as the Colts WR1 we saw Reggie Wayne finish as 2012's 15th best WR in fantasy football. We could see Fitzgerald bounce back this year and finish in a similar spot. Fitzgerald struggled last year because of the team's QB woes and finished as the 42nd best WR in fantasy football.

ARI - Offensive line changes in OTAs

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals OG Jonathan Cooper served as the backup left guard in the first day of organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 14. OG Chilo Rachal worked with the first team, while OG Daryn Colledge worked as the starting right guard with OT Bobby Massie at right tackle. OT Nate Potter worked as the starting left tackle, as OT Levi J. Brown (triceps) continues to rehab from surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals allowed 58 sacks in 2012, highest in the league. Cardinals QBs were sacked every 11.7 dropbacks last season, the worst in the NFL. The Cardinals O-line struggled to open holes for the ground game, allowing their RBs to be hit in the backfield on 22.4 percent of rushes, also worst in the NFL.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer wants chemistry with all WRs

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he wants to build chemistry with all of the wide receivers because he will not be able to throw to WR Larry Fitzgerald all the time. 'It's of the utmost importance to be on the same page with Larry, but it's of the utmost importance to be on the same page with every one of those guys because the ball can't always go to him,' Palmer said. 'I know that's not what he wants to hear, but that's the truth. There will be teams that key on him and there will be games where he doesn't have as many catches as other games. It's that much more important I have that rhythm and timing down with [WR Michael Floyd] and [WR Andre Roberts] and whoever that third and fourth guy is going to be.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals improved their O-Line this year and that will allow Palmer more time to throw. The Bruce Arians offense is all about downfield passing and being aggressive downfield. Larry Fitzgerald finished last year as the 42nd best fantasy WR but could finish in the top 25 this season.

BUF - Doug Whaley to be named GM

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

The Buffalo Bills plan to name assistant general manager Doug Whaley as their new general manager Thursday, May 16.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That is the move that was expected. Whaley has been with the team over the last three seasons and was being groomed to eventually be the GM.

OAK - Sign Joshua Cribbs

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

The Oakland Raiders agreed to terms with WR Joshua Cribbs (Browns) Wednesday, May 15. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cribbs will be a return specialist for the Raiders. He's not quite 100 percent recovered from his offseason knee surgery but the team will monitor him closely as he continues to make his way back. Cribbs won't be asked to do much as a wide receiver on offense.

MIA - WR Mike Wallace thinks chemistry with QB will be fine

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said he does not think building chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill will not be too difficult and expects the chemistry to be fine once training camp begins. Wallace said he works with Tannehill after each practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill has better weapons around him this year and should be able to make more plays than he did last year. He's got a big arm, athleticism, and fantastic pocket presence. Wallace should be able to become a favorite of Tannehill quickly.

JAX - Coach thinks camp will make QB situation more clear

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Vito Stellino

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said he expects the competition between QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne will become more clear once the team puts pads on during training camp because the coaches can see how they perform during certain situations.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a make or break year for Gabbert as the team is growing tired of his ineffectiveness. The new regime could start making plans to find his replacement in 2014 if Gabbert continues to struggle this year.

MIA - Daniel Thomas not conceding anything

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is considered the front-runner for the starting running back job, although RB Daniel Thomas said Tuesday, May 14, that he shouldn't be overlooked. 'I don't know why (Miller) would have the inside track,' Thomas said. 'It's an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up. I'm looking to be that guy. That's why I put the work in.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas has struggled to impress during his time in the pros. Miller should be the starter for the Dolphins this year and Thomas will have to compete with rookie Mike Gillislee for the backup job.

SD - Melvin Ingram tears ACL

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the second day of organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 14. He is scheduled to receive further evaluation before undergoing surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A crushing blow for the Chargers here. Ingram could miss the entire 2013 season because of this injury. The Chargers pass rush is dangerously thin right now. Expect them to consider adding free agent DE Dwight Freeney (Colts). Freeney and new GM Tom Telesco are familiar with each other from their days together with the Colts.

CAR - Interested in S Charles Woodson

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

The Carolina Panthers have expressed interest in free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders and Broncos also have interest in the veteran. Woodson originally said he wanted to join a team close to a title. He recently said that he would be open to joining a team that is rebuilding.

DEN - Believed to be frontrunner for S Charles Woodson

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

The Denver Broncos are believed to be the frontrunners to sign free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) because they have the best chance to win the Super Bowl among the teams interested in Woodson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the Broncos add Woodson they will only strengthen their spot as a Super Bowl favorite in 2013. If added Woodson would compete with Rahim Moore and Mike Adams for a starting job.

NYJ - CB Antonio Cromartie to cover top receivers

Source: New York Daily News - Seth Walder

New York Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman indicated CB Antonio Cromartie will cover the opponent's No. 1 receiver this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good move for the Jets here, and one everyone assumed would happen. Cromartie is taking over for Darrelle Revis (Buccaneers) who was traded away earlier this offseason. That leaves rookie Dee Milliner in fewer pressure situations.

BAL - ILB Rolando McClain retiring from NFL

Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome announced Ravens LB Rolando McClain, 23, has informed the team he is retiring. Baltimore has placed McClain on the Reserve/Retired list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things change pretty quickly around here. Three years ago McClain was a top 10 pick in the first-round and people were talking about him like the next coming of Patrick Willis. Still only 23 years old we'll see if McClain can get his life back on track and get back on the football field.

MIN - Not pursuing ILB Brian Urlacher

Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team isn't pursuing free-agent MLB Brian Urlacher (Bears) right now. They plan to give LB Erin Henderson every opportunity to win the middle linebacker job. 'Brian has been a great player in our league for a long, long time,' Frazier said. 'He was a thorn in our side for many years. At this point we want to look at the guys on our roster, give them a chance to compete for the middle linebacker position then we'll see where it takes us.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With both the Broncos and Vikings uninterested in Urlacher he'll have to wait longer to find a new home. We could get to training camp before Urlacher gets an opportunity.
