KC - More on RB Jamaal Charles

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is walking on his sprain, but is having trouble pushing off. Charles is going to see how it heals before he decides on his availability for the team's next preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In the second week of the preseason we're not expecting to see Charles play. The team will monitor him closely and may have him ready for the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka week three of the preseason. Charles is the centerpiece of the offense and they don't need this foot injury aggravated because of bringing him back too soon. This is a fluid situation but our Dr. Jene Bramel has an excellent article on Making Sense of the Jamaal Charles Situation.

SD - WR Malcom Floyd carted off field

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) was carted off the field after suffering an apparent right knee injury during practice Monday, Aug. 12. Floyd was receiving treatment on his knee for a few minutes before being carted off.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Terrible news for the Chargers here if the injury ends up being serious. The team is already hurting at the WR position after losing Danario Alexander (knee) earlier in training camp. Stay tuned for the latest.

CLE - RB Trent Richardson wants to play

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson (shin) said he wants to play in the team's next preseason game, but is leaving it up to the coaching staff on what the plan is. "I expect to play. I expect to play each game. I'm gonna leave it in Coach's hands, whatever he thinks is best for the team, Richardson said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns held Richardson out of their first preseason game as a precaution. The shin injury has never been considered serious but some fantasy owners are rightfully concerned because we saw Richardson dinged up so much last year. We should see him soon in the preseason. If healthy he could finish as a top five fantasy RB.

WAS - QB Robert Griffin III likely will be ready for Week 1

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said that without a setback, he believes QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not going to see Griffin in the preseason as the team wants him back near full strength for the start of the regular season. In the meantime we'll see more from backup QB Kirk Cousins. Griffin's fantasy stock may fall out of the top eight or nine. Make sure to grab him if he falls that far in your draft. He comes with an injury risk but has top five ability if healthy.

SD - Three taking snaps with first team

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WRs Eddie Royal, Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen are all taking first team reps in 11-on-11 drills in practice Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen is the player that could see his fantasy value increase the most. Coming out of college (California) Allen was known as a linear athlete who can make difficult catches seem routine. He's got excellent lateral agility in the open field and is dangerous with the ball in his hands. Some scouts felt Allen had first-round talent but he fell in the draft due to a nagging PCL injury.

CAR - Coach optimistic about RB Jonathan Stewart

Source: Charlotte Observer - Jonathan Jones

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is on schedule in his rehab from offseason ankle surgery and sounded optimistic about the possibility of Stewart being ready for Week 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rivera's optimistic but fantasy owners remain pessimistic about Stewart's prospects. His current ADP is RB46 and he's coming off the board at 10.03 in 12 team PPR leagues.

WAS - Coach says Robert Griffin will not play in preseason

Source: 106.7 The Fan - Grant Paulsen

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will not play in any preseason games. Shanahan said Dr. James Andrews recommended Griffin sit out the preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And there you have it. Griffin is returning to 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday but the team doesn't want to expose him to punishment in a preseason game.

ARI - Ryan Williams still dealing with injury

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ryan Williams said RB Ryan Williams (knee) is still considered day-to-day because of issues with his knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams has been banged up ever since he came into the league in 2011. Durability problems have held him back and some think he's in danger of losing his spot on the roster. The old saying goes 'you can't make the club in the tub' and Williams won't make the team if he can't get on the practice field.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell to practice

Source: Steelers.com - Teresa Varley

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he planned on participating in practice Monday, Aug. 12, after missing the team's first preseason game because of a sore knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team made it sound like the absence was no big deal, and this would be consistent with that take. Bell had lit up camp in the first two weeks at Latrobe, and he is looking like a nice upside RB2 pick in the fourth round. His ADP could creep into the third with a good showing in the preseason.

WAS - QB Robert Griffin III confirms Tuesday is the day

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Updating an earlier report, Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) confirmed he will take part in 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, Aug. 13.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Redskins have been working Griffin back in slowly as they prepare him for the start of the regular season. We'll see how he looks on Tuesday as the team gets ready for their next preseason game. Griffin ia not expected to see any preseason game action as he comes back from this knee injury but it'll be telling to see what kind of practice work he sees.

BAL - TE Ed Dickson non-committal about opener

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) was non-committal when asked if he will be ready for the regular season opener Sept. 5, against the Baltimore Ravens. He is recovering from a partially torn hamstring. 'I can't make any predictions, but I'm working hard to do that. It's one of those things where it was really sore and I tried to prevent it by doing other things,' Dickson said Sunday, Aug. 11. 'The doctor said it went all the way through, so it's not lingering through the season so I can get all the way healthy and make me back to 100 percent.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A partially torn hamstring will take some time to come back from. Even if he tries to be ready for week one it doesn't mean he'll be anywhere close to full strength.

NYG - HC angered by RB Andre Brown's fumble

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was agitated after a fumble by RB Andre Brown in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 10, against the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'It concerns me. It concerns Andre, too. I don't care how much and how long you play the game - there are certain things that have to happen before you run the ball,' Coughlin said Sunday, Aug. 11. 'You have to look the ball in if it is going to be a toss or pitch or pass. First, you got to catch the darn thing and cover it up before you can go on to the next objective. I am sure he will learn a lot. To his credit he went right back in and did some good things.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No Werther's Original handed out to Brown by Grandpa Coughlin tonight. Brown is trying to earn a large role in the team's backfield. He'll split time with second-year back David Wilson.

JAX - WR Cecil Shorts still out

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Gene Frenette

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (calf) is still out of practice Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shorts is the top WR in Jacksonville and the team needs to be cautious with him. They'll especially lean on him the first four games of the season as Justin Blackmon is suspended during that time.

PIT - WR Plaxico Burress undergoes surgery

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress (shoulder) underwent season-ending rotator cuff surgery Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could be the last we see of Burress in the NFL. He's not the same player he used to be and might be best served retiring.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed could play in preseason game

Source: The Washington Times - Rich Campbell

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (foot) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 12, and likely will play in the team's second preseason game if he does not suffer a setback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed is an interesting rookie tight end for fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues to monitor. The former quarterback transitioned to tight end in college and has the athleticism to create mismatches. Reed has excellent footwork and can easily set up his routes to gain separation. He's competing for targets behind starting tight end Fred Davis.

CLE - RB Montario Hardesty injured

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (thumb) suffered a right thumb injury during practice Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The last thing Hardesty needs is another injury. Durability has been a big problem for him dating back to his time in college at Tennessee. He's been held back in training camp by a hamstring injury and is in danger of losing his spot on the final roster. Dion Lewis has been doing a good job as the Browns' RB2 behind starter Trent Richardson.

NYJ - QBs perform well during practice

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez went 5-for-7 with two 50-yard touchdown passes during seven-on-seven drills at practice Monday, Aug. 12. He also went 2-for-3 with a touchdown in team drills. QB Geno Smith went 6-for-7 with one touchdown during team drills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some days Sanchez is the best guy, other days Smith is the best guy. Today it sounds like both were strong. This competition is going back and forth and we're not closer to a starter being announced then we were when camp opened up.

SD - RB Danny Woodhead taking part in practice

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (undisclosed) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 12. He has not practice since Friday, Aug. 2, because of an undisclosed injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woodhead could be more involved in the Chargers offense than some realize. The team is going to be playing from behind a lot this year and that means a pass catching back like Woodhead would be on the field more than a grinder like Ryan Mathews. We like his current ADP of RB41 (8.09) in 12 team PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Santonio Holmes not optimistic

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) did some jogging Monday, Aug. 12, but didn't sound optimistic he'd be back soon. 'Right now, I can't run,' said the veteran receiver, giving a rather blunt update on his condition. Holmes has been working hard to return but doesn't have a timetable on when that might be. The team isn't ruling him out for Week 1, but it's a long shot at this point. Holmes started doing light cuts Sunday, Aug. 11.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's looking more and more like Holmes is going to begin the season on the PUP list. That would force him out of the first six games of the regular season. After that time the team would have three weeks to decide whether or not to activate Holmes or put him on season ending Injured Reserve.

IND - RB Ahmad Bradshaw activated

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Indianapolis Colts have activated RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradshaw is set to be the team's starter if he can stay healthy. His foot problems have been a problem ever since he came into the league. The Colts will work to manage his touches this season. Bradshaw with the first team pushes Vick Ballard down to the second team.

BUF - Unsure about QB Kevin Kolb's status

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said he is not sure if QB Kevin Kolb (knee) will be able to play in the team's second preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kolb suffered a minor knee injury when he slipped on a wet mat earlier in training camp. He's got plenty of experience and doesn't need a ton of reps in the preseason. However, Kolb is competing with rookie E.J. Manuel to be the starting QB this year. He needs to get back on the playing field if he wants to win the job.

NYJ - Coach hoping RB Chris Ivory can play

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he hopes RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) will be able to play in the team's second preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ivory should be the team's starter this year if he can stay healthy. He fully participated in practice on Monday for the first time since training camp began. The Jets could use a RBBC to help keep Ivory fresh during the regular season.

BAL - RB Bernard Pierce practicing

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (knee) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pierce is going to be the RB2 behind Ray Rice once again this year. The team could mix him in a little more than some think in 2013. Keeping Ray Rice fresh would boost the team as the season goes along. Using Pierce to wear down defenses would do that.

PIT - Not looking to sign a TE

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not considering signing a tight end because they expect to get TEs Heath Miller (knee), Matt Spaeth (foot) and David Johnson (knee) back at some point during the season. Johnson could return in the near future and hopes to be able to play during the preseason. The team does not have a specific timetable for Miller's return.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers are hoping that Miller could be ready for week one of the regular season. He's coming back from the knee injury he suffered at the end of last year. If Miller isn't ready they could put him on the PUP list to start the regular season.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy sits out practice

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tyler Dunne

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no reason to move Lacy down yet, but with his durability concerns coming out of Alabama, we are putting more of the onus on Lacy to show us that he can stay healthy, much like Chris Ivory, but without as scary of a past as Ivory (and in a much better offense than Ivory). Here's hoping Lacy gets back on the field very soon, now that DuJuan Harris is back.

TB - WR Kevin Ogletree update

Source: Twitter

Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Kevin Ogletree (ankle) tweaked his ankle when he was tangled up with a defender Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No word on the severity of the injury but a 'tweak' sounds like a minor injury. Ogletree is competing for the WR3 spot behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Second-year speedster Chris Owusu was drawn more praise, but he came out of the preseason opener banged up.

TB - QB Josh Freeman lighting it up

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman is having a great day with a lot of life on his throws Monday, Aug. 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman needs to light it up during the regular season. Last year he was strong until the final three games of the season when he threw nine interceptions during that span. The team wants him to be more consistent this year. Freeman is in the last year of his rookie contract and could break the bank next offseason if he plays up to his potential in 2013.

TEN - TE Taylor Thompson hopeful for Saturday

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Taylor Thompson (shoulder) was unable to practice Sunday, Aug. 11, as he nurses a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. However, he is hopeful of playing in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson needs to get healthy and gain more experience on the football field. He was a defensive end in college at SMU but transitioned to tight end at the 2012 Players All Star Classic in Little Rock, AR. The Titans liked him enough to take a chance on him in the fifth-round of the 2012 NFL draft. Thompson is big, strong, and athletic enough to create mismatches when he's on the field. He's an interesting player to monitor in dynasty leagues.

TEN - WR Kenny Britt misses practice

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt (knee) missed practice Sunday, Aug. 11, due to a sore knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt can be a stud WR when fully healthy but durability and consistency have been problems for him during his pro career. He could easily outperform his ADP (WR36, 9.01) if he stays healthy, cuts down on the drops, and plays up to his top 10 potential in 2013.

NYG - S Antrel Rolle carted off

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants FS Antrel Rolle (foot) has been carted off the field during practice Monday, Aug. 12, after suffering an apparent right foot injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rolle is an adequate #2 defensive back or safety in IDP leagues, but he is far from a core fantasy performer. We have no idea how serious this is, but any loss of value by Rolle will make him close to undraftable at the deep position of safety.
