DEN - RB Knowshon Moreno, RB Willis McGahee up for one spot

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RBs Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee likely will compete for one roster spot during training camp because the team probably will not keep both. Moreno could have an edge for the No. 3 running back job because he is younger, less expensive and a better receiver than McGahee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Broncos have to make a move at the RB position after adding Montee Ball (Wisconsin) in the 2013 NFL draft. Ball will be given every chance to win the starting job in training camp with second-year RB Ronnie Hillman likely serving as the team's primary change of pace back. Keeping Moreno would make sense because of his ability as a receiver and in pass protection.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski will need another surgery

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will need a fourth surgery on his forearm to change the plate that is securing the forearm. It is still not known if the infection in his forearm has cleared, which is delaying the surgery to replace the plate.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an important situation for fantasy owners to monitor. If an infection is still found then Gronkowski would need a fifth surgery on his forearm. Should he need that extra procedure then his availability for the start of the regular season would be in jeopardy.

CIN - Want Tyler Eifert to be difference maker

Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said he believes TE Tyler Eifert can be a difference-maker for the team if he becomes more of a blocker. Gruden said the team will see what kind of blocker Eifert is during their rookie minicamp and work with him from there.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gruden is correct. Eifert was the top tight end in this draft class and is an instant upgrade over Jermaine Gresham. He can make plays in a crowd and is fearless when running routes over the middle. Eifert fights for contested catches and has strong hands to snatch the football out of the air. He's a willing blocker with the tenacity to stick with his man. In college at Notre Dame Eifert had the ability to line up in line or out of the slot. Eifert is a TE2 with TE1 upside for fantasy owners this year. His current ADP is TE16 and he's going off most boards in the middle of round 13.

DAL - WR Miles Austin working on hamstrings

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin said he has done some extra things this offseason to help strengthen his hamstrings.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Austin and his fantasy owners here. He's a fantastic talent when healthy but has struggled with durability during his entire pro career. Fantasy owners are a bit gun-shy about drafting Austin at this time. His current ADP is WR36 and he's coming off the board in the middle of round eight.

NFL - CB Ronde Barber to retire

Source: FOXSports.com - Jay Glazer

Free-agent FS Ronde Barber (Buccaneers) has decided to retire from professional football.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're sad to see Barber call it quits. Barber last missed a game for the Buccaneers in week 10 of the 1999 season. He's played under Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden, Raheem Morris, and Greg Schiano. Barber was selected to 5 Pro Bowls and named 1st-team All-Pro by the AP 3 times. He should wind up in the Hall of Fame someday.

WAS - Robert Griffin III injury update

Source: The Washington Times - Rich Campbell

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) said he is doing great and his knee issue feels fine. 'I'm doing great. Knee feels fine. It's about taking it slow. Each day is a better day,' Griffin said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More good news for Griffin here. All reports have been positive about his recovery this offseason. We'll see if he's ready to go by the start of training camp. Even if he is we're expecting the team to ease him back into action.

NE - WR Julian Edelman has surgery

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) is in a walking boot after a clean-up procedure on his right foot.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edelman is unlikely to participate in OTAs but the team expects him to be ready by the start of training camp. During his absence we could see UDFA rookie T.J. Moe (Missouri) emerge in minicamp as the primary backup behind Danny Amendola. Dynasty owners need to take note.

JAX - GM still not interested in Tim Tebow

Source: FOXSports.com - Alex Marvez

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said the team is still not interested in signing free-agent QB Tim Tebow.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a petition going around from Jaguars fans that want Caldwell to change his mind and add the Jacksonville native. Tebow's been on the open market for about a week now and has not drawn much interest. He could get more interest as a free agent if he was open to a position switch.

NYJ - Teammate thinks QB Mark Sanchez should start

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes indicated he believes QB Mark Sanchez should be the team's starting quarterback at this point. 'Right now, it's Sanchez, and that's who we're going with, and we're going to continue on this road until time permits,' Holmes said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Note the phrase 'right now.' Sanchez should get the veteran nod at the start of camp as the team's top QB. However, there will be a competition at the position between Sanchez, rookie Geno Smith, and veteran David Garrard in training camp. Anything could happen with the Jets and it wouldn't surprise us to see Smith ahead of Sanchez when the regular season starts.

JAX - Hope to get Denard Robinson 10-15 touches

Source: FOXSports.com - Alex Marvez

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell praised RB Denard Robinson's burst at mini-camp and said they hope to get him 10-15 touches per game along with returning kicks.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see how Robinson looks as a running back in the preseason. He's an electric runner but gets too upright and exposes his midsection to a lot of hits. That also leads to ball security problems. This story improves his dynasty value, but his value in re-draft leagues is extremely low at this time.

TEN - RB Jalen Parmele signed

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

The Tennessee Titans have signed free-agent RB Jalen Parmele (Jaguars). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parmele takes the place of Jamie Harper on the depth chart. He's a versatile player who can contribute as a runner, receiver, or return man. Parmele will compete with Darius Reynaud and Stephon Jefferson to be the team's third-string RB behind Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene.

TEN - Jamie Harper released

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

The Tennessee Titans have released RB Jamie Harper.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The writing was on the wall when the Titans added free agent RB Shonn Greene earlier this offseason. Harper could latch on with another team in need of a short yardage back for training camp. He's a big back with good leg drive but is limited athletically.

NYJ - Joe McKnight's spot could be in jeopardy

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight's roster spot could be in jeopardy if the team decides to sign free-agent WR Joshua Cribbs (Browns) because Cribbs could handle the kick return duties.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKnight has failed to do much during his pro career and now may be the odd man out with the Jets. We'd consider him fourth on the depth chart right now behind Chris Ivory, Mike Goodson, and Bilal Powell. A fresh start could do him some good as it appears the Jets have moved on.

NYJ - Interested in two WRs

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

The New York Jets have expressed interest in free-agent WR Braylon Edwards (Jets) and WR Ramses Barden (Giants).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edwards could always stay with the Jets. He has good chemistry with QB Mark Sanchez and can be a reliable veteran target. Edwards re-joined the Jets last year after the Seahawks let him go in December. In three games (all starts) he compiled 10 catches for 125 yards.

DEN - Orlando Franklin expects to be ready for workouts

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos OT Orlando Franklin (toe, shoulder) said he expects to participate when offseason workouts begin in a few weeks. He said his toe has completely healed and that his shoulder is at about 85 percent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Franklin is a bookend tackle on the right side of Peyton Manning. He's not much of a pass blocker but is an absolute road grader as a run blocker. Denver needs him and left tackle Ryan Clady (shoulder) to get healthy before the start of the regular season.

OAK - Make offer to Joshua Cribbs

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, the Oakland Raiders made a contract offer to free-agent WR Joshua Cribbs (Browns) during his visit, but he is receive interest from other teams. Cribbs did pass a physical during his meeting with the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow. The Raiders are like Ray Zalinsky from Tommy Boy here. When they see something they want they go for it. Cribbs has drawn some others teams interest around the league and may want to see what teams like the Lions, Jets, or Buccaneers would give him.

SD - Max Starks visiting

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The San Diego Chargers are meeting with free-agent OT Max Starks (Steelers) Wednesday, May 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Chargers lost out on Bryant McKinnie (Ravens) when he decided to stay in Baltimore. They selected D.J. Fluker (Alabama) in first-round of the 2013 NFL draft but he's going to play right tackle. The team's O-Line needs more upgrades and they are far from a finished product.

NE - Aaron Dobson could compete for No. 2 WR job

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson could compete for the No. 2 wide receiver job during offseason workouts and training camp. Dobson could also be a factor in the red zone because of his size and excellent body control.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dobson does have good straight line speed but he's not a burner. He makes difficult catches look easy and adjusts easily to poorly thrown passes. Dobson does drop a few easy passes and sometimes plays with a lack of confidence.

ARI - ILB Karlos Dansby visiting

Source: Xtra 910 Radio - Mike Jurecki

The Arizona Cardinals will visit with free-agent LB Karlos Dansby (Dolphins) Wednesday, May 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dansby could come back to the Cardinals because of the uncertainty surrounding Daryl Washington. 2012 was his best season with the Dolphins as Dansby finished the year with 134 total tackles and proved he could still be productive as a pro. Washington could be facing another suspension because of his recent arrest (domestic violence), but the NFL is expected to allow the legal process play out before making a decision. Washington will already miss the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the substance abuse policy.

TB - Da'Quan Bowers wants to improve

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Stephen Holder

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Da'Quan Bowers knows he can do more on the football field, something he hopes to show in 2013. 'It's not only injuries, but (my) play. I haven't been the dominant player that I know I can be,' Bowers said. 'I have a lot of potential to be one of the best and the elite at what (I) do, and I haven't shown that at this level yet. (It was) injuries and not understanding what was going on. It takes time to mature at this level. I think my maturation process is going on now and a lot of it has already passed. So, I'm just looking for an opportunity now.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a make or break year for Bowers. He missed the first six games of the 2012 season as he recovered from an Achilles' injury. Bowers is back to full strength and the team needs him to provide chaos (and a pass rush) from the edge in 2013.

TB - Not interested in two DEs

Source: PewterReport.com - Mark Cook

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not interested in signing free-agent DE Dwight Freeney (Colts) or DE John Abraham (Falcons).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeney has reportedly dropped his earlier asking price of around $6MM per year. Abraham has gotten interest from teams like the Titans and Broncos but has yet to sign a new deal. The Buccaneers lack experienced pass rushers at the DE position after losing Michael Bennett (Seahawks) in free agency.

JAX - CB Marcus Trufant not expected to start

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Marcus Trufant is not expected to be one of the starting cornerbacks this season but probably will compete for playing time in the team's defensive subpackages.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It usually takes some time for rookie CBs to get up to speed. Nickel packages are used now more than ever in this pass happy league. Trufant will see plenty of snaps this year.
