MIN - WR Percy Harvin returns to practice

Source: 1500ESPN.com - Judd Zulgad

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin (hand) returned to the practice field after being carted off earlier Monday, July 30. Harvin had fingers taped on his right hand.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harvin and Jacoby Ford both had near miss injuries. We're thankful for everyday that passes without a major injury to a fantasy star in training camp.

DAL - RB Felix Jones fails conditioning test

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones, WR Andre Holmes and FS Brodney Pool failed the conditioning test at the start of training camp Monday, July 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another strike against Jones, who might be fighting Phillip Tanner for the second-string job if he can't get in shape and stay healthy this summer. He isn't worth a pick in the first 10 rounds right now.

NO - Mark Ingram limited

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (toe, knee) was limited during practice Sunday, July 29. Ingram has been practicing one day and then limited the next day.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is progress for Ingram, but it underscores the risk of taking him in the first five or six rounds this year. If you can land him as your first running back off of the bench, especially in nonPPR leagues, he's worth the risk.

PIT - RB Jonathan Dwyer could have big role

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer reported to training camp in great shape and could have a big role in the running back rotation this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dwyer is a very agile for a power back and displayed running talent on a second-round level at Georgia Tech. His spotty work ethic, limited skillset, and questionable dedication caused him to fall to the sixth round, but he seems like he might have gotten it entering his third season in the NFL. He has more to offer physically than Isaac Redman and could force a committee if he demonstrates the ability to pass block and execute consistently this summer.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson spends brief time at hospital

Source: 1500ESPN.com - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was sent to the hospital Monday, July 30, after having an allergic reaction to some seafood he had for lunch but was released from the hospital and is back at training camp. Head coach Leslie Frazier said Peterson should return to rehabbing Tuesday, July 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Let's hope this is the worst health news we get on Peterson during training camp and the preseason.

NYG - CB Terrell Thomas has ACL damage

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk

New York Giants CB Terrell Thomas (knee) does have damage to his anterior cruciate ligament and likely will undergo arthroscopic surgery to determine the extent of the damage.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas could be done for the year, but the Giants had a prescient pick of Prince Amukamara in the first round last year. Look for him to start during any time that Thomas misses.

WAS - ILB Jonathan Goff has torn ACL

Source: Twitter

Washington Redskins LB Jonathan Goff (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during practice Sunday, July 30, and will miss the entire 2012 season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goff was in line to start at middle linebacker for the Giants at one time, but he was already fighting for a roster spot. This one could make it hard for Goff to play a big role again in his career.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta breaks hand

Source: Carroll County Times - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hand) broke his hand during practice Monday, July 30. Head coach John Harbaugh said the team hopes he will be ready for the start of the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ed Dickson can recapture some of the momentum he lost last year as Pitta became a more trusted target in the playoffs. If Pitta isn't ready for week one, Davon Drew could make the team after spending most of the last two seasons on the practice squad.

GB - RB James Starks having impressive training camp

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks is having an impressive training camp in the early going, including a couple of nice rushes with one resulting in finding the end zone.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Starks should be the lead back for the Packers, but the value of that role is shaky because the team does not commit to the run. He is a decent bench running back to take a chance on once you fill out your top three.

ARI - Beanie Wells could practice next week

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) may practice next week, according to head coach Ken Wisenhunt. Wells, currently on the PUP list with a knee issue, could also see action before the end of the preseason, according to Whisenhunt.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The word "could" indicates that this is a hope, not a certainty. Wells still hasn't returned to the field seven months after a "minor" knee surgery. Ryan Williams suffered a catastrophic patellar tendon tear last year and is ahead of Wells physically. Wells is looking like a bad bet at his current ADP.

ARI - Michael Floyd low on first depth chart

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd is behind WRs Andre Roberts and Early Doucet at one of the wide receiver spots on the first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you draft Floyd this year in a redraft league, you'll likely have to sit on him for at least a few weeks to see what you've got.

HOU - RB Arian Foster defends diet

Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster said the team is behind his new Vegan diet and believes the regimen will help him. 'I didn't just blindly stop eating meat. I know what I'm doing,' Foster said. 'There's nothing to talk about in the offseason - that's why (my tweet) got so much attention. Nobody asked what I ate last year ... It's just the flavor of the week. You'll forget about it in a month.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In Foster we trust. If you get him at the number three pick, consider yourself lucky.

SEA - WR Sidney Rice injury update

Source: The Associated Press

The Seattle Seahawks intend to take it very slowly with WR Sidney Rice (shoulders) during training camp and avoid all contact for now as Rice continues to recover from offseason surgery on both shoulders. Rice may not play in the preseason in order to be ready for Week 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rice's ninth-round ADP reflects his heightened durability risk. He'll be better off if Tarvaris Jackson or Russell Wilson wins the Seahawks quarterback job. He has fantasy WR2 talent, but his situation and injury risk make it hard to pull the trigger unless you have your starting lineup filled out.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning not throwing deep

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Although Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has looked sharp in training camp thus far, most of his passes have been short and intermediate, with only a handful of them deep.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If this is a trend, it hurts the stock of Demaryius Thomas and helps Eric Decker and Jacob Tamme. This could also be a case of the Broncos easing Manning in while his neck and arm are getting back in game shape.

NYJ - Tim Tebow practicing jump pass on special teams

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Tim Tebow got practice time Monday, July 30, on special teams as a punt protector. That does not appear to be his only role on the punt team, though, as he was seen practicing a jump pass on fake punts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets certainly don't seem to be prepping Tebow to battle Mark Sanchez to start at some point this year, but if Sanchez doesn't pick up his game, they might have no choice.

JAX - TE Marcedes Lewis not in great shape

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Vito Stellino

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said TE Marcedes Lewis has to get in better shape. 'When you don't train here in the heat, he lives out in California, and it's going to take him a little bit to acclimate to this kind of weather,' Mularkey said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis has some factors in the offense (like overall effectiveness) working against him, and now apparently, his own offseason conditioning. He is barely getting drafted, if at all, and it looks like that is the correct approach to Lewis in fantasy leagues after his career year in 2010.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden will not change running style

Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden said he does not intend to change his aggressive style of play, even if it makes him more susceptible to injury. 'It's one of those things, it happens in football,' McFadden said of injuries. 'I can't say I'm unlucky about it because I'm a very blessed person to even be playing in this league. I just go out there and take it one day at a time. I can't control injuries. If I get hurt, I'm going to get hurt going hard because that's something I can't control, and I'm not going to go out there and play not to get hurt.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Running backs who are trying to not get injured can actually increase their chances of injury. McFadden is one of the league's elite backs when healthy, and there's little reason to him to change that approach as long as he gets those results.

DAL - Owner comments on WR Dez Bryant

Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said WR Dez Bryant must realize his arrest has to be taken very seriously. Jones said it was premature to discuss possible punishment since the team and the league were still gathering information. 'There is no doubt that Dez Bryant is exceptionally talented. It has certainly served to give him the consideration that's he's gotten frankly in life. And I think he, like us all, have got to realize where your bread is buttered,' Jones said. 'You've got to realize that that is not there for you if you do not adhere to society's rules. He's got to realize that.' Jones added Bryant and the team know controversy is not good overall for the Cowboys and is not good for the league, and that there are consequences.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That Bryant still doesn't "get it" this far into his pro career is cause for concern. He has the talent be one of the top three wide receivers in the league, but his first two years have been a story of potential unrealized. He is still worth a pick as a WR2 if you love risk/reward plays.

PHI - TE Brent Celek injury update

Source: Courier-Post - Kevin Minnick

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek (knee) has been running on the treadmill inside the team's practice facility and is making progress, according to head coach Andy Reid. 'We're just taking it day-by-day,' Reid said. 'He feels pretty good though. He's getting there.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Celek is one of the best upside plays outside of the top 10 fantasy TEs. This injury shouldn't keep you from drafting him as a backup in TE premium leagues, or a starter if you choose to slough the position.

NYJ - Bilal Powell could be third down RB

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell could be the team's third down running back, according to running backs coach Anthony Lynn.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The competition to start at running back for the Jets isn't that great, so if Powell is creating momentum, he is worth adding in deep dynasty leagues to see what happens. Perhaps he just needed a complete offseason to get his bearings in the pros.

IND - Andrew Luck solid in afternoon practice

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Phillip B. Wilson

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck looked good in practice Monday July 30, going 28 of 37 with three touchdown passes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts offense is clearly going to run through Luck, so he is undervalued outside of the top 15 fantasy quarterbacks.

SEA - WR Golden Tate doing well in camp

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Eric D. Williams

Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate has been making plays during training camp and WR Sidney Rice said Tate has grown up as a receiver and is not celebrating after each catch. Tate is considered the favorite for the starting wide receiver job opposite Rice. Tate said he started watching tape more and being more coachable during practice during the second half of last season which helped him play well during that time. Tate said he prefers to line up as an outside receiver because he believes he can do more damage at that position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate is one of only three Seahawks wide receivers assured of a roster spot along with Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin. He should have little trouble winning a starting spot if he can stay on track. He might be worth a late pick, but the Seattle pass offense probably won't create that much fantasy value among its secondary receivers unless Sidney Rice gets hurt again.

NYJ - Jordan White off PUP list

Source: The Star-Ledger Jenny Vrentas

New York Jets WR Jordan White (foot) has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list and said the fractured bone in his foot has healed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White isn't special physically in any way, but he's tough and ultra-productive. He was specifically called out by wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal as a candidate to play the slot if he can stay healthy.

SF - RB Anthony Dixon looking for shot at FB

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Anthony Dixon has asked head coach Jim Harbaugh to a chance to play at fullback and Harbaugh said Dixon is responding to the move.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon's only chance to make the team will be at fullback after they signed Brandon Jacobs and drafted LaMichael James in the second round.

JAX - WR Laurent Robinson's struggles continue

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Tania Ganguli

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Laurent Robinson continues to struggle in training camp as he is still dropping passes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The whole Jaguars offense has come out of the docks like a sinking ship. There's plenty of time to get things on track, but so far, so bad.

NYJ - CB Antonio Cromartie receives rep at WR

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie received a rep at wide receiver during practice Monday, July 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cromartie could get a bump in cornerback-required IDP leagues, but check your league settings to make sure IDPs get credit for offensive stats.

SF - Jim Harbaugh defends A.J. Jenkins

Source: CSNBayArea.com

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh defended the selection of WR A.J. Jenkins in the first round of the NFL Draft, even though Jenkins has struggled early on. 'A.J. Jenkins was an outstanding football player when he got here,' Harbaugh said. 'His progress has been very, very good, and exceeded expectations. For those - the scribes, pundits, so-called experts - who have gone so far as to say that he's going to be a bust, should just stop. I recommend that because they're making themselves look more clueless than they already did.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harbaugh's strong defense can be seen as reason to believe in Jenkins, but he is clearly irritated at the reports, which could be a sign of his own misgivings. Still, one good week of practice in camp can wipe out a bad spring, so we should be open to Jenkins getting his momentum going in the right direction.

BUF - WR David Nelson injury update

Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills WR David Nelson (leg) will miss about four to five days of practice after being diagnosed with a strained tendon in his right leg, according to head coach Chan Gailey.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nelson should hold down the slot job even though he is very big for a receiver in that role. He failed to live up to expectations after Roscoe Parrish went down last year, so he is a last-round pick in PPR leagues at best. This injury won't help matters.

PHI - Bryce Brown battling Chris Polk

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com - Dave Spadaro

Philadelphia Eagles RB Bryce Brown has shown soft hands as a receiver since joining the team, and he showed off solid blocking in pass-protection drills Sunday, July 29. He appears to have a leg up in the battle for the No. 3 running back job over rookie RB Chris Polk.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Polk might be a better fit in a power running game with his rugged style. Look for Brown to win this battle and share the backup job with Dion Lewis. The Eagles will have a tough call on whether to keep four running backs or attempt to stash Chris Polk on the practice squad. If they do, he could easily get signed by a team like Detroit or Arizona.

STL - Five might be battling for roster spot

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams WRs Danario Alexander, Brandon Gibson, Austin Pettis, Greg Salas and Steve E. Smith are not considered locks for the team's final roster out of training camp and the preseason. Smith showed progress as offseason workouts went on, and he might be a sleeper if healthy. Pettis has two games remaining on his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Alexander is the most physically gifted out of this group but knee injuries have kept him from developing as a pro. Salas is the best route runner but last year as a rookie really struggled and was plagued by drops.

IND - WR Austin Collie in mix for starting job

Source: The Herald Bulletin - Rick Teverbaugh

Indianapolis Colts WR Austin Collie has been mostly relegated to slot receiver duties in the past with the team. Now, he has a chance to do more. 'Before I was more like the security blanket,' Collie said Sunday, July 29. 'Now I am going to focus more on being able to make the big play down the field. I feel like that means I have a lot more responsibility.' Head coach Chuck Pagano said he is pleased with how quickly QB Andrew Luck and Collie have jelled.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Collie's strong hands and crips route running will make him a favorite of QB Andrew Luck. Donnie Avery is the main competition for Collie in training camp. As long as he's healthy we think Collie wins the job opposite Wayne.

GB - Randall Cobb off to a fast start

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Pete Dougherty

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb, a second-year pro, has had an eye-catching start to training camp. If he keeps it up, it may be impossible for the Packers to keep him off of the field even though he is going to continue as the team's primary return man. Early in training camp, Cobb has made more big plays and has been used a variety of ways - more so than any of the team's other receivers. He has had several big receptions in training camp, using his speed to blow past defenders.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb should get more snaps than both Donald Driver and James Jones this year. We like his ability as the Packers slot WR because he can change direction on a dime and is blazing fast.
