DAL - League to review WR Dez Bryant incident

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Rainer Sabin

The NFL will look into the domestic incident that led to Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's arrest, league spokesman Michael Signora said. 'We are aware of it and it will be reviewed as appropriate,' Signora said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Bryant's first arrest, but he could still be disciplined by the league. Even if there is no conviction in this case NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell could decide to suspend the young Wide Receiver.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch officially charged in DUI case

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Eric D. Williams

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch has been officially charged with driving under the influence of alcohol stemming from his arrest Saturday, July 21.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch has a court date on August 14th and is facing a lengthy suspension if convicted on this charge. With his prior offenses of the personal conduct policy we feel Lynch won't be available for a full season this year. Rookie Robert Turbin would start in place of Lynch and is a similarly skilled back.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch arrest could be costly

Source: SiriusXM Sports Radio

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch's DUI arrest could prove to be costly as a suspension for conduct detrimental or substance abuse defaults his four-year, $31 million contract and voids his guaranteed money, according to a league executive.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A smart move by the Seahawks here. Lynch had already had trouble with the league's personal conduct policy stemming from a 2009 incident, and the possibility of a long suspension would be looming for the second offender. Fantasy owners should consider rookie RB Robert Turbin until we know what kind of discipline/suspension Lynch is facing.

DEN - DE Elvis Dumervil confident truth will come out

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos DL Elvis Dumervil said he is confident the truth will come out regarding his arrest on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. 'The truth will come out,' Dumervil said. According to two sources close to Dumervil, he was not carrying a gun and neither the Land Rover or the confiscated gun belonged to him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll let the legal process play out in this one before getting too excited about what could happen. Dumervil is arguably the third most important Broncos player because of what he can do as a pass rusher. Losing him for even part of the season would be a crushing blow to the Denver defense.

WAS - Robert Griffin signs

Source: ESPN.com

The Washington Redskins have signed QB Robert Griffin III to a four-year deal, according to a source. Under the collective bargainning agreement, Griffin's contract is due to be roughly $21 million, about two-thirds of which would be the signing bonus.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We feel RG3 could have an instant fantasy impact this year. He had the best downfield accuracy of any QB in the 2012 NFL Draft and is an elite athlete who can keep plays alive with his feet. The Redskins will have an effective ground game with their zone blocking scheme, and we expect a bootleg heavy offense to take full advantage of RG3's athleticism. If you wait on QB in your fantasy draft, make Griffin the QB1 in your QBBC.

DET - WR Larry Fitzgerald says WR Calvin Johnson better fantasy option

Source: NFL.com

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said Wednesday, July 18, that Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is a superior fantasy option than Fitzgerald due to their quarterback situations.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Fitzgerald here. Megatron is the best in the game because of his size, strength, and leaping ability. Catching passes from Matthew Stafford doesn't hurt either. However, we think Fitzgerald should finish as a top 5 fantasy WR this year regardless of who is named the starting QB. Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will battle in training camp for the job.

HOU - Contract not a distraction for QB Matt Schaub

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub said his contract status will not serve as a distraction for the upcoming season. Schaub is entering the final year of a six-year, $48 million deal. 'I'm just getting ready for training camp, and I'm going to keep the blinders on and try to accomplish everything we know we're capable of doing,' Schaub said. 'We'll worry about camp and regular season, and the rest will take care of itself as we go.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schaub will likely play out this season under his current contract. The Texans would like to see him stay healthy during the year and will be more than happy to get him a new deal if he does. In the meantime they'll turn their attention to guys like OLB Connor Barwin and LT Duane Brown. Expect the team to begin long-term extention talks with both before the start of the regular season.

NFL - RB Cedric Benson wants a legitimate offer

Source: NFL.com

Free-agent RB Cedric Benson (Bengals) is hoping to join a team; however, he has no interest signing for the veteran minimum.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Teams are in no hurry to sign Benson right now but that could change as we get into training camp. We expect the Raiders to sign Benson so they can have better veteran depth behind superstar RB Darren McFadden.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco could get extension before camp

Source: NFL.com - Daniel Jeremiah

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is the team's next priority to sign to an extension following RB Ray Rice's deal and there is a '75 percent chance' a deal will get done prior to the start of training camp, according to a source close to the situation.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco is entering the last year of his rookie contract and his agent has said the veteran QB deserves to get paid like a top 5 QB. Problem is, Flacco hasn't played like a top 5 QB and doesn't have a Super Bowl ring. We have a feeling the two sides will come to an agreement on Flacco's true value. They could perhaps throw in some incentive clauses to boost the potential money in the deal.

KC - RB Dexter McCluster should still see time at RB

Source: KCChiefs.com - Josh Looney

Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster should still factor in the team's running game in 2012. McCluster is just too versatile, and new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll values game-specific matchups far too much.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCluster worked as a slot WR during OTAs and minicamp, but the team is still trying to feel out where the best spot is for him to play. He's an incredibly versatile weapon and the Chiefs would be wise to use him in many different ways.

PIT - S Troy Polamalu has lied about concussions

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu said that he has lied about symptoms of concussions so that he'd be cleared to stay on the field. 'Yes, I have, for sure,' Polamalu said. However, Polamalu sees a distinction between just saying he doesn't feel dazed after a hit to the head when maybe he actually does, and blatantly lying about a significant injury. 'I wouldn't say I've had any major lies,' Polamalu said. 'Somebody may say, 'Is your knee messed up?' It may be kind of messed up but you just kind of push yourself to be out there with your brothers. I wouldn't say there are any major lies where I totally lied my way out of concussions. In fact, during concussions, if it's serious enough you can't even be conscious enough to lie.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a common story around the NFL. Football players are known to be tough. They can suck it up, rub some dirt on it, and get back in the game. However, with medical technology advancing we've learned that's not a wise move. We'll see concussion tests on the sidelines get even more thorough in the future.

IND - Andrew Luck was waiting for Robert Griffin deal

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck's camp was waiting for Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III to sign his contract before finalizing Luck's deal, according to a league source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the Redskins locking up RGIII it's only a matter of time before Luck signs his rookie deal. The days of rookie holdouts are over with the new wage scale for the incoming class.

DEN - Ryan Clady contract talks hit snag

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

Contract negotiations between the Denver Broncos and OT Ryan Clady have hit a snag. The two sides recently exchanged proposals but the numbers were far enough apart that a league source said an extension by the time the team reports to training camp next week does not seem likely. Clady is scheduled to make $3.5 million this season in the final year of his rookie contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Peyton Manning under center the Broncos need Clady as their franchise Left Tackle. Protecting Manning's blind side is of the utmost importance and Clady is one of the best in the game. He gave up nine sacks last year but that was mostly due to QB Tim Tebow holding onto the ball too long. We expect Clady will have a bounce back season in 2012.

ATL - QB Michael Vick did not study playbook

Source: CBSSports.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he was more concerned with dogfighting than learning his playbook while with the Atlanta Falcons. 'Back when I was involved in those activities, I may have become more dedicated to the deep study of dogs than I was to my Falcons playbook,' Vick said. 'I became better at reading dogs than reading defenses. That's just so sad to say right now, because I put more time and effort into trying to master that pursuit than my own profession ... which was my livelihood ... which put food on the table for my family.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vick has certainly become a more mature person and player since getting out of jail. He should be helped immensely, with results showing up on Sundays, by a full offseason of work with the Eagles.

CIN - WR Jordan Shipley figures to be near 100 percent

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) figures to be near 100 percent for the start of training camp after seeing limited work during organized team activities (OTAs). He is making his way back from a serious knee injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shipley should be considered the favorite to be the Bengals WR3 slot position in 2012. He has fantastic hands and good run after the catch ability but injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential as a pro.

CIN - Mohamed Sanu figures to be in mix

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu showed flashes during offseason workouts, and he figures to be in the mix for a starting job with a solid training camp and preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Several people consider Sanu as the leading candidate to win the WR2 job opposite superstar A.J. Green. Sanu reminds many in the scouting community of former Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

CHI - Questions remain at LT

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright and Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears OLs J'Marcus Webb and Chris Williams are expected to battle for the starting left tackle spot in training camp and preseason. Webb committed an NFL-high 15 offseason penalties last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Webb and Williams are poor options at Left Tackle, but they're the best the Bears have. Without Mike Martz running the offense there will be no more 7-step drops for QB Jay Cutler this year. Getting the ball out of his hands quickly will help keep him from getting sacked as much in 2012.

DET - DE Cliff Avril won't report to camp

Source: ESPN.com

Detroit Lions DL Cliff Avril said he doesn't plan on reporting to the team's training camp next week. Avril was tagged as the team's franchise player in March, but the two sides failed to reach a long-term agreement before the July 16th deadline.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Avril is unhappy the two sides didn't get a deal done, but we can't imagine him missing any time in the regular season. He's concerned about getting hurt in training camp, and may miss a couple of weeks.

PIT - OLB Joey Porter to retire as member of team

Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent LB Joey Porter (Cardinals) said he will sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers so he can retire as a member of the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Originally a third-round pick out of Colorado State in 1999, Porter carved out a nice 13-year NFL career. He was a feared pass rusher during his heyday with the Steelers, and won a Super Bowl championship in 2005. In addition to his pass rushing ability we'll also remember his famous "1-2-3, Let's Ride!" post-game chant.

NE - Dont'a Hightower agrees to terms

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The New England Patriots have agreed to terms with first-round draft choice LB Dont'a Hightower on a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hightower should help the Patriots defense immediately. He has great read and react skills and quickly breaks down runners in the open field. Hightower is a leader on the field and has the agility to stay on the field in passing situations.

BAL - Family member believes S Ed Reed will play in 2012

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

One of Baltimore Ravens FS Ed Reed's family members believes Reed will play football in 2012 and not hold out of training camp. 'Everyone is talking about a holdout,' the family member said. 'Ed isn't going to hold out. He told me he isn't going to hold out. He speaks his mind about some things, gets some things off his chest, but he's never said he is going to hold out. He'll show up when he has to be there and he'll play out his contract.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed is going to put out veiled threats until the start of training camp, but we expect the veteran to show up on time. The Ravens gave RB Ray Rice a new long-term deal, and will next turn their attention to QB Joe Flacco. Reed may want a new deal but the chances of him getting one are slim and none.
