NO - QB Drew Brees might skip training camp

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

If QB Drew Brees does not have a long-term contract in place by Monday, July 16, by the 4 p.m. ET deadline, he has no plans to sign his franchise tender and report to training camp, according to league and team sources. Brees is seeking an average of $20.5 million per year, sources said, while the team has offered him a deal which would average $19.25 million per season, according to a team source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees fantasy stock would take a hit if this happens, but it could create a good opportunity to scoop him up at a discount in early drafts. He is one of the few players who doesn't need camp to be fully prepared for the season.

BAL - No deal imminent for RB Ray Rice

Source: Carroll County Times - Aaron Wilson

The Baltimore Ravens and unsigned franchise player RB Ray Rice are nearing a deadline of Monday, July 16, at 4 p.m. ET to get a deal done. If the two sides cannot work out a long-term deal, Rice will play this season under a $7.742 million franchise tag. 'Honestly, I just let my agent take care of all that stuff,' Rice said. 'My job, I just stay in shape. I know the business side will always take care of itself.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens can tag Rice again next year for a reasonable price considering the production he provides. Rice will probably have to take less than he wants to get a long-term deal done.

WAS - Robert Griffin pushing team to take Josh Gordon

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has been pushing the team to take WR Josh Gordon in the 2012 Supplemental draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a big piece of news for anyone trying to prognosticate Gordon's landing spot. It would also be huge for Gordon's stock in dynasty leagues. A reunion with Griffin at Griffin's urging would indicate a big future for Gordon and maybe put the brakes on Pierre Garcon's possibilities of being a fantasy WR1 over the long haul.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas wishes Tim Tebow was still around

Source: USAToday.com - Nate Davis

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he wishes QB Tim Tebow had not been traded to the New York Jets so that he could learn from QB Peyton Manning. Me and Tim, if you look at our stats, we had a great year together,' Thomas said. 'And I wish he would have stayed around so maybe he could have learned some things from Peyton. But it's over with now, and we've got Peyton on our side, so I'm just looking forward to the season.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas didn't have to run precise routes or develop great timing with Tebow. He was used to an option-based offense from Georgia Tech and Thomas could just let his superior physical tools take over. Now, he'll have to be more in tune with Peyton Manning, something that we'll be watching closely in the preseason. Thomas has WR1 upside, but there is some risk to drafting him early this year.

HOU - Duane Brown may franchise tag

Source: NFL.com - Brian McIntyre

The Houston Texans may place the franchise tag on OT Duane Brown next offseason if the two sides are not able to reach a contract agreement before that point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans laid a lot of money out to sign Arian Foster long-term, and quarterback Matt Schaub will also be a free agent. They'll likely use their franchise tag next year on Brown or Schaub.

BUF - May consider taking Josh Gordon

Source: The Buffalo News - Tim Graham

The Buffalo Bills may consider taking Baylor WR Josh Gordon during the 2012 NFL supplemental draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills were among the Sideline View's Adam Caplan's top five most likely teams to take Gordon tomorrow, but there has been little other strong buzz about Buffalo selecting him before teams like Washington, Dallas, and Cleveland would.

TEN - Guaranteed money issue in Kendall Wright contract talks

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

The Tennessee Titans are working on signing first-round draft choice WR Kendall Wright but the issue of guaranteed money could be a problem because Wright may look for all four years of his contract be guaranteed. Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Adrian Clayborn, who was selected 20th overall in 2011 like Wright was this year, received a fully guaranteed contract but the players before and after him only received three guaranteed years in their contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans should just fully guarantee Wright's contract. If he is the player they think he'll be, he deliver at least two or three times the value of the contract with his play on the field by his fourth year.

WAS - Robert Griffin hopes to have deal before camp

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones and Dave Sheinin

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said he hopes to have a deal before the start of training camp and believes the two sides are close to an agreement. He said his agent and the team had talks last week and will resume talks soon.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin seems to be closing in on a deal, and all indications are that he has been 100% committed to the task at hand. He is the least likely first-round pick to hold out into training camp.

GB - Not expected to add a RB

Source: FOXSportsWisconsin.com - Paul Imig

The Green Bay Packers are not expected to add a veteran running back to the roster, even though free-agent RB Ryan Grant (Packers) would like to re-sign with the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While this can be seen as a good sign for James Starks and Alex Green on the surface, the Packers will likely continue to employ a committee in the backfield and a pass-heavy offense.

CLE - Favorites to land Josh Gordon?

Source: thesidelineview.com - Adam Caplan

The Cleveland Browns are among the favorites to select former Baylor WR Josh Gordon in the NFL supplemental draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have the need, the roster space at wide receiver, and an early spot in the draft order to force teams to spend a pick a round higher than they are comfortable doing to land Gordon. A third-round pick bid from Cleveland should have a very good chance of winning Gordon tomorrow.

SEA - WR Deon Butler on the bubble?

Source: The Seattle Times - Danny O'Neil

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler is on the roster bubble heading into training camp. Butler and WR Mike X. Williams will be in the thick of what might be the hottest roster competition in camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butler has never been the same since a grisly leg injury in 2010. Doug Baldwin does a lot of the same things and his emergence has made Butler's spot very shaky.

SEA - Mike Williams on the bubble?

Source: NFL.com

Seattle Seahawks WR Mike X. Williams is on the roster bubble heading into training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams poor work ethic has reportedly resurfaced, and the Seahawks have a lot of young developmental talent on the roster behind him. He only really flourished with Matt Hasselbeck, so perhaps Tennessee could take a look at Williams again if he gets cut. Williams played for Tennessee in 2007.

TEN - Were willing to pay QB Peyton Manning $25 million per year

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams reportedly wanted to pay Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning $25 million per season before he elected to sign in the Mile High City.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning shares an agent with Drew Brees. Tom Condon likely put this out there to increase the amount that seems fair for Brees to get from the Saints in a long-term deal.

GB - Several likely battling for one spot

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Rob Reischel

Green Bay Packers WRs Diondre Borel and Tori Gurley are considered the favorites to make the 53-man roster for the potential sixth wide receiver spot, but they'll need to hold off youngsters like WRs Dale Moss and Shaky Smithson. 'It's got to be the deepest we've been since I've been here,' WR Jordy Nelson said. 'It's going to be difficult. It always will be. If you have a good team, which we have a good team, and are hopeful about making a run, it's going to be hard to make any position.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wide receiver poor teams will be trawling the Packers camp cuts to get their practice squad or fifth receivers. Don't assume that Borel, Gurley, Moss, and Smithson are busts if they get cut this summer - the Packers are just very good at scouting wide receivers.

NFL- Josh Gordon passed urine test

Source: DraftInsider.net - Tony Pauline

According to sources, Baylor WR Josh Gordon passed an unannounced urine test last week. He is expected to be selected in the NFL's Supplemental Draft. In addition, Gordon's Wonderlic score was reportedly equal to a score NFL clubs want from a quarterback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is huge for his stock because of the questions about the marijuana usage that derailed Gordon's career at Baylor. Any team thinking of spending a pick on him tomorrow will only be encouraged by this result.

SF - WR Kyle Williams trying to hold off competitors

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams is expected to be the backup return man for the team behind WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee). However, rookie RB LaMichael James is also expected to see some time on punts and kickoffs during training camp, and CB Perrish Cox saw time on kickoff returns during offseason workouts. RB Kendall Hunter and CB Chris Culliver also might get a look on kickoff returns.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ginn could be expendable with Williams and James providing value in other ways that he hasn't been able to when the offensive is on the field. Williams had a great offseason and should make the team as long as they carry six receivers.

SF - WR Ted Ginn Jr. expected to be ready

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) did not participate in any offseason workouts, as he was nursing a right knee injury. However, toward the end of the offseason program, he appeared to be running near 100-percent speed during workouts. He is expected to be ready for training camp and the preseason, and he is again expected to be an integral part of the team's return game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ginn might be in a dogfight for his job with Kyle Williams having a strong offseason following a disastrous end to his 2011 season after a fumbled punt that cost the 49ers a shot at the Super Bowl.

ARI - Michael Floyd at WR Larry Fitzgerald's camp

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals rookie WR Michael Floyd showed up to WR Larry Fitzgerald's camp Tuesday, July 10. The workouts are taking place in Minnesota. 'I know (Fitzgerald) wants the best for me and every time I'm out here with him, I work hard,' Floyd said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can say with confidence that playing with Fitzgerald will be good for Floyd. It might have seemed too harsh to call Floyd out on Twitter, but Fitzgerald is just trying to motivate his teammate - and it worked.

PIT - Steve McLendon believes he can be starting NT

Source: Steelers.com - Teresa Varley

Pittsburgh Steelers DT Steve McLendon said he believes he can be a starting nose tackle even though he weighs 280 pounds. 'People may say I am not the classic nose tackle, but what is the classic nose tackle. Some nose tackles are big, some small. If you look at Jay Ratliff for the Cowboys he is not a big nose tackle, but he plays very well. You look at [DT Casey Hampton] and he is a big nose tackle and plays well. I figure I will be in between. If I can move quick at nose and play strong at nose, itís all going to work itself out for me,' McLendon said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Other reports have McClendon bulking up to 320 pounds this offseason, so he's not all that small. Either way, the Steelers have nose tackle covered with McClendon and fourth-round pick Alameda Ta'amu behind Casey Hampton.

TB - Likely will keep CB Eric Wright

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely will keep CB Eric Wright even though he was arrested earlier this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

One would hope that if the team liked Wright enough to give him over 15 million dollars guaranteed, they would stand behind him after his felony DWI arrest. He did have a major character incident involving allegations of rape at USC in 2004 that caused him to leave the school, but in NFL terms, that is ancient history. The team could move Ronde Barber back to cornerback from safety if they bail on Wright.
