Hi Folks,

Good Monday to you. We're cranking up in a big way here. Keep your eye out here in these daily email updates as we've got big news coming for our Interactive iPad Magazine. Plus some news for you guys that don't own iPads that I think you're going to love.

We've got the news and notes you need plus a ton of great new content so let's get to it. Thanks as always to our Cecil Lammey for the work there.

And one quick note for you Old Timers out there that remember this game. Norman Sas, the inventor of Electronic Football, died at 87 years old. You guys haven't lived until you've screamed at a vibrating one inch tall O.J. Simpson for "running" the wrong way. Thank you, Mr. Sas. My little brother and I had many hours of fun with your invention.

Now on to the News. Have a great day.

MIA - Teammate believes Ryan Tannehill will start on bench

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush said he believes QB Ryan Tannehill will start the season on the bench. Bush said it would allow Tannehill to learn by watching the veterans from the bench and be prepared for when he is called on to play.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill is likely to start third on the depth chart behind Matt Moore and David Garrard. However, he could end up seeing the field this year towards the end of the season. Tannehill is the future of this team at Quarterback, and knows the offense like the back of his hand already. His college coach, Mike Sherman, is now the Dolphins new Offensive Coordinator.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger less accurate in red zone

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed only 50 percent of his passes in the red zone last season which was down from his 64.7 percent completion percentage outside the red zone.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers would like Roethlisberger to improve that number this year, and the design of Todd Haley's offense should help do that. Roethlisberger's favorite target in the red zone could change from week to week. Haley's system spreads the ball around to multiple targets.

IND - Owner says deal with Andrew Luck close

Source: Twitter

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on his Twitter page that the team is close to signing first-round draft choice QB Andrew Luck.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The days of extended holdouts are long gone with the new rookie wage scale. The Colts should have Luck signed and ready for the first day of training camp.

NE - TE Aaron Hernandez likely would look for WR money under tag

Source: The Boston Globe - Greg A. Bedard

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez is expected to look for the wide receiver designation if the Patriots place the franchise tag on him next offseason. Hernandez would argue that he is more of a receiver than he is a tight end.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Packers TE Jermichael Finley also tried this earlier this offseason. Hernandez could make a convincing case that he's more of a WR in the Patriots offense because he rarely plays out of a three-point stance. There's a chance that he could catch over 100 passes in 2012. Hernandez was able to snag 79 catches last year despite missing time due to injury.

NE - Want WR Wes Welker to take less money

Source: The Boston Globe - Greg A. Bedard

The New England Patriots want franchise free-agent WR Wes Welker to take less money in a long-term contract in order to continue playing with QB Tom Brady. Welker would like a deal that guarantees him just below the $21 million he would get paid playing two years under the franchise tag.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Patriots owner Robert Kraft wants to agree to a new deal, but said it has to make sense financially for the two parties. Welker lost a lot of leverage when he signed his franchise tender so early in the offseason.

IND - Top three picks not under contract

Source: The Indianapolis Star

The Indianapolis Colts have not signed first-round draft choice QB Andrew Luck, second-round draft choice TE Coby Fleener and third-round draft choice TE Dwayne Allen at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't foresee any problems getting all three signed before the start of training camp. The Colts have a youth movement this season, and all three prospects are very important to the future. Fleener was a favorite target of Luck's in college, and Allen was seen as the best all-purpose Tight End in the 2012 NFL Draft.

CLE - Not expected to go after Josh Gordon

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

The Cleveland Browns are not expected to select Baylor WR Josh Gordon in the 2012 NFL supplemental draft because of his off-field issues.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Browns think they're all set at Wide Receiver even though it's a weak position for them. Second-year WR Greg Little may be a standout player one day, but behind him they lack talent and depth.

NE - WR Wes Welker close to franchise record

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Wes Welker will only need four receptions in 2012 to become the Patriots' all-time leader in receptions. Welker will only need six seasons to complete to the task and it took current leader WR Troy Brown 15 seasons to get his 557 catches as a Patriot.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Welker has been everything and more than the Patriots hoped for when they sent their 2nd and 7th round picks in 2007 to the Dolphins for his services. With the NFL becoming a more pass happy league we could see more team records fall in the next few years.

NFL - Josh Gordon received third-round grade from one NFC team

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Evan Silva

Baylor WR Josh Gordon is the highest-rated prospect available for this summer's Supplemental Draft. A source with knowledge of the situation said Saturday, July 7, that Gordon has generated a third-round supplemental draft grade from at least one club which plays in the NFC.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This matches up with an earlier report we had about Gordon. He could have gone higher in the supplemental draft because of his size/speed combination, but off field issues have given some teams pause when considering him.

SF - A.J. Jenkins needs to build upper-body strength

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com - Dan Arkush

San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins was inconsistent during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. Jenkins needs to work on building up his upper-body strength in order to hold up against aggressive press cornerbacks at the pro level, according to sources.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jenkins is not a big WR, but is very quick in and out of his breaks. Without upper body strength that quickness won't matter because defenses will just jam him out of the play. This season we're not expecting much from the first-round pick as he develops his pro game. He's fourth on the depth chart (at best) behind Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, and Mario Manningham.

CLE - Unlikely to keep four RBs

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns RBs Brandon Jackson and Chris Ogbonnaya might be fighting it out for the No. 3 running back job behind rookie RB Trent Richardson and RB Montario Hardesty in training camp and the preseason. It is unlikely the Browns will keep four running backs on the roster, so Jackson and Ogbonnaya might not make the roster. However, if Hardesty suffers an injury, Jackson might end up as the primary backup with Ogbonnaya as the No. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd give the edge to 'Silent G' here. Ogbonnaya is a better all-purpose runner and has proven he can be effective between the tackles.

CLE - RB Montario Hardesty expected to be primary backup

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty is expected to serve as the primary backup to rookie RB Trent Richardson as long as he can remain healthy. If Hardesty suffers an injury, his roster spot might be in jeopardy.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hardesty is very talented, but oft-injured. His multiple knee injuries may have robbed him of some of his natural ability. If he can stay healthy we like him as a backup RB who can spell the workhorse rookie RB Trent Richardson.

SD - Melvin Ingram expected to be role player initially

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com - Kevin Fishbain

The San Diego Chargers are expected to use LB Melvin Ingram as a pass rusher in the nickel defense and as part of a rotation at outside linebacker.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram can be used at Defensive End as well. His best asset is the initial burst off the line of scrimmage. Expect the Chargers to use him in many different ways with the sole purpose of getting after the Quarterback.
