STL - PK Josh Brown officially released

Source: 101 ESPN - Howard Balzer

The St. Louis Rams have officially released PK Josh Brown.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Their new Kicker is rookie Greg Zuerlein. With $2.7MM due in 2012 the new staff decided that it was time to move on. Brown will get a shot somewhere else, but it won't be for what he was set to make with the Rams.

CLE - QB Colt McCoy participates in workout

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy participated in the team's offensive workout Monday, April 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy may or may not be on the trade block, but as of right now he's with the Browns. The team added Brandon Weeden (Oklahoma State) in the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft to compete with (and potentially replace) McCoy for the starting job.

STL - Isaiah Pead a future No. 1 RB?

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The St. Louis Rams view RB Isaiah Pead as the successor to starting RB Steven Jackson, even though Pead looks more like a change-of-pace or third-down back. Pead was reportedly coveted around the league during the NFL Draft and would not have lasted on the board much longer after the 50th overall pick.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pead is one of the more versatile backs in this year's draft class. He is a good runner between the tackles and will patiently wait for blocks to develop in front of him. Pead is also a good receiver out of the backfield and can beat Linebackers covering him on wheel routes.

BUF - Stevie Johnson to have surgery

Source: WKBW.com

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (groin) will undergo groin surgery in the next couple of days.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No worries here. The procedure is considered minor and shouldn't keep him out of action for very long. The Bills expect Johnson to be a veteran leader at the team facility during offseason workouts this year.

TB - Bucs see Doug Martin as three-down back

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said the team believes RB Doug Martin can be a three-down running back for the team. Martin is expected to compete with LeGarrette Blount for carries.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin was arguably the most versatile RB in the 2012 NFL Draft. He's a strong inside runner who uses his low center of gravity to pick up tough yards. Martin also is a good receiver out of the backfield and can provide a mismatch against Linebackers on wheel routes. He could also contribute as a return man if need be. We think Martin beats out Blount for the starting job, and with his skill set he should barely come off the field.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw looking forward to working with new RB

Source: The Star-Ledger - Mike Garafolo

New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw said he is looking forward to working with RB David Wilson and helping him learn the team's complex offense. "He's a very talented running back and he's from Virginia. Two Virginia guys in this running back corps is going to be dangerous. I expect to use him as my project to get him better, to get him smarter and just to mature him a little bit, just to help him understand the NFL,' Bradshaw said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is an exciting RB to watch every time he touches the ball. He reminds us of Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles because of his first step explosion and elusiveness in the open field. Wilson needs better ball security and will have to learn (like Charles did) to be a better inside/out runner instead of looking to bounce every run outside.

DEN - Ronnie Hillman expected to see playing time

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is expected to see some carries this season so the team can keep RB Willis McGahee fresher during games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hillman was a fantastic addition by the Broncos in the third-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. We could see him beginning the regular season as a complementary back behind McGahee. However, don't be surprised if he ends up taking over as the lead back at some point during the season.

SF - WR Randy Moss reports for workouts

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss reported for the team's offseason workouts Monday, April 30.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's good to see Moss show some dedication here. His roster spot is not guaranteed with the first-round addition of A.J. Jenkins. If he can play like the Randy Moss of old then he'll make the team and contribute.

CLE - Mike Holmgren says he still likes QB Colt McCoy

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said he still believes in QB Colt McCoy but also wanted to add competition in the form of QB Brandon Weeden. 'I like him a lot,' Holmgren said of McCoy. 'He's tough, but (we) still wanted to see if someone else could be the man.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy may or may not be on the trading block. We don't think the market is that hot for his services right now, but things could change if QBs start to get injured in training camp.

KC - Devon Wylie could compete for return job

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Kansas City Chiefs WR Devon Wylie may compete with RB Dexter McCluster and CB Javier Arenas for the punt return duties this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wylie is an immediate addition to the Black Eyed Joe All-Nickname Team. With a nickname like "Wiggles" you know he's athletic and elusive in the open field.

CLE - May look for veteran backup QB

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

The Cleveland Browns may look to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason to mentor QB Brandon Weeden. Free-agent QB A.J. Feeley (Rams) could be an option if the team goes this route.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns still have Seneca Wallace on the roster but don't see him as the type of mentor they want for Weeden. Feeley has been in the league since 2001, yet is only 5 years older than the Browns' rookie QB.

IND - Agreed to terms with 14 UDFAs

Source: KFFL.com

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free-agent DE James Aiono (Utah), DT Chigbo Anunoby (Morehouse College), OT Steven Baker (East Carolina), DB Cameron Chism (Maryland), DE Kevin Eagan (Endicott College), DB Antonio Fenelus (Wisconsin), OG Jason Foster (Rhode Island), LB Chris Galippo (Southern California), OG Hayworth Hicks (Iowa State), CB Buddy Jackson (Pittsburgh), S Matt Merletti (North Carolina), WR Jabin Sambrano (Montana), P Brian Stahovich (San Diego State) and WR Griff Whalen (Stanford). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Whalen gets to follow QB Andrew Luck and TE Coby Fleener from Stanford to the Colts. He plays a lot like Bengals reserve WR Ryan Whalen (no relation). Whalen may not make the final roster but could find a spot on the practice squad.

GB - QB Graham Harrell expected to win No. 2 QB job

Source: ESPNMilwaukee.com - Jason Wilde

Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell are expected to beat out QBs B.J. Coleman and Nick Hill for the primary backup quarterback position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a shaky move for the Packers. Harrell hasn't looked good in the preseason and doesn't have a skill set like former backup Matt Flynn does. His weak arm can be easily exposed and he has a tendency to lock onto primary targets. Hopefully rookie B.J. Coleman can get up to speed quickly.

DET - Riley Reiff heir apparent at LT

Source: MLive.com - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said the team sees OT Riley Reiff as the heir apparent to OT Jeff Backus at starting left tackle.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions know that priority number one is protecting QB Matthew Stafford. Reiff will help them do just that.

CAR - Agreed to terms with nine UFDAs

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

The Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free-agent WR Brenton Bersin (Wofford), OG Will Blackwell (Louisiana State), DL Nate Chandler (UCLA), RB Princeton McCarthy (Idaho), RB Tauren Poole (Tennessee), Matt Reynolds (Brigham Young), Lyndon Rowells (Humboldt State), DE Ryan Van Bergen (Michigan) and WR Rico Wallace (Shenandoah). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the addition of Poole here. During the draft we were surprised someone didn't take a chance on him in the late rounds. Poole had a down senior season (like Arian Foster did when he was at Tennessee) but is a versatile RB who can contribute as a runner, receiver, and return man.

DET - Ryan Broyles could start on PUP list

Source: NFL.com

Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) could start his pro career on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Broyles tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a game last season. 'He's a possible PUP guy, but I think at some point during camp he'll be ready to go,' general manager Martin Mayhew said. 'The great thing with him is, we have the ability to take our time and get him healthy and get him on the field.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Broyles is a fantastic addition for the Lions in the second-round, even if he has to miss the first six weeks of the regular season. Only six months removed from his knee injury he's already back to running. We expect the Lions to be very careful with Broyles as he continues his recovery. Broyles has fantastic run after the catch ability, soft hands, and great body control. He'll give the team a speed slot option when he's back to 100%.

DAL - Announce UDFA signings

Source: KFFL.com

The Dallas Cowboys announced Monday, April 30, they have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free-agent OT Jeff Adams (Columbia), OT Levy Adcock (Oklahoma State), WR Cole Beasley (Southern Methodist), WR Tim Benford (Tennessee Tech), TE George Bryan (North Carolina State), OT Taylor Dever (Notre Dame), RB Lance Dunbar (North Texas), OG Harland Gunn (Miami), WR Saalim Hakim (Tarleton State), LB Adrian Hamilton (Prairie View A&M), LS Charley Hughlett (Central Florida), WR Donavon Kemp (UTEP), OG Ronald Leary (Memphis), CB Isaac Madison (Arkansas), OT Tyrone Novikoff (Idaho), RB Darrell Scott (South Florida), CB Lionel Smith (Texas A&M), TE Andrew Szczerba (Penn State), LB Aston Whiteside (Abilene Christian), S Eddie Whitley (Virginia Tech) and CB Troy Woolfolk (Michigan).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like the addition of Scott here. He was the number one high school RB when he entered college and attended the University of Colorado. He ended up transferring to South Florida and added a lot of muscle to his frame. He's a big, bullish runner with little wiggle in the open field.

OAK - GM confirms QB Matt Leinart visit

Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said the team will hold a workout for free-agent QB Matt Leinart (Texans). However, McKenzie would not say a signing is imminent. 'What we're doing, we're bringing in Matt Leinart for a tryout. Signing and all of that, that's secondary. But we're bringing him in for a tryout,' McKenzie said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It would be too perfect for Leinart to end up with the Raiders. Many QBs have worn the Silver & Black in their final days in the league. Leinart would get to play behind a fellow USC Trojan, QB Carson Palmer. Second-year QB Terrelle Pryor would likely play as the third-string, developmental QB.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning approves of QB depth

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning approved of the team's decision to select QB Brock Osweiler in the NFL Draft. 'On one of the first days after we signed him, he told me after watching what his friends just went through, we have to make sure we get depth at quarterback,' head coach John Fox said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is clearly secure as the Broncos starter, and adding Osweiler just makes a lot of sense. Denver only has Caleb Hanie and Adam Weber on the roster behind Manning and need a true QB of the future. Osweiler could sit for three or four years while Manning leads the Broncos.

CLE - Lied to QB Colt McCoy?

Source: ESPN.com

The selection of Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden came after the team told QB Colt McCoy on draft day that they wouldn't take a quarterback in the first round, according to a league source. The Browns have denied telling McCoy that.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The NFL stands for "Not For Long" and nearly every player realizes their job is constantly on the line. McCoy hasn't exactly set the NFL on fire with his play, so it would be ignorant to think the Browns wouldn't look for an upgrade at the position.

CLE - Not expected to trade QB Colt McCoy

Source: ESPN.com

The Cleveland Browns do not expect to trade QB Colt McCoy despite selecting QB Brandon Weeden in the first round of the NFL Draft, according to a team source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sentiment could change if injuries hit at the QB position in training camp. McCoy's trade value is fairly low right now, but he does have plenty of starting experience and could be attractive to a new team in an emergency situation.

HOU - Sign 18 more UDFAs

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

The Houston Texans reached contract agreements with undrafted free-agents DL Loni Fangupo, FB Jason Ford, RB Jonathan Grimes, DL David Hunter, WR Jerrell Jackson, LB Dalano Jackson, WR Dwight Jones, QB Case Keenum, WR Mario Louis, LB Shawn Loiseau, RB Davin Meggett, OT Nate Menkin, DL Rennie Moore, SS Eddie Pleasant, DL Tracy Robertson, TE Phillip Supernaw, OG Cody White and LB Greg Williams.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A couple of players to highlight here. Meggett is perfect for the zone system and is a one-cut RB who gets to top speed in a hurry. Jones is a big WR who gets to top speed in a hurry. He's got soft hands and is dangerous after the catch.

NFL - QB Donovan McNabb uncertain if he'll retire

Source: NFL.com

Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said Saturday, April 28, that he has not yet decided whether he'll retire from the National Football League or not. He is currently weighing his options.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNabb needs to go ahead and retire here. He's already shown that he's not the same player he used to be. Unless he likes holding a clipboard he should look to the next chapter of his life.

DAL - May let CB Mike Jenkins play out contract

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

The Dallas Cowboys may allow CB Mike Jenkins to play out the final year of his contract and then pick up a compensatory pick if he leaves next offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As of right now there seems to be little to no interest in Jenkins on the trade block. He's a tough competitor who played through shoulder injuries last year. He underwent shoulder surgery back in January and the serious nature of his multiple injuries is a cause for concern among potential suitors.

DAL - Morris Claiborne could be used as returner

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne could be used as a punt returner or kick returner this season because the team needs to improve in those areas.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Claiborne was arguably the best cover corner in this draft class, and there were some who compared his skill set to Jets CB Darrelle Revis. He's got the speed, agility, and quickness to be dangerous after the interception or in the open field as a return man.

PHI - Draft used to address pass rush

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Paul Domowitch

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said the team used high draft picks on DL Fletcher Cox and LB Mychal Kendricks in order to rush the quarterback. 'It is (all about the pass), yeah,' Reid said. 'With the college kids and the offenses that these guys are running (in college), they're throwing the football and the ball is in the air. That's eventually going to carry over to our league. You're seeing that now.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love what the Eagles added in the 2012 NFL Draft. Cox is your classic run stuffer who can set the point in the middle of the line and free up the players around him to make plays. Kendricks is a high football intelligence player who can scrape and flow to the play consistently.

That'll do it for today. Thanks for reading and thanks for letting us be a part of your fantasy football season. It's going to be a great one. We'll see you tomorrow.

Peace,
