DET - Jim Schwartz agrees to extension

Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms on a contract extension with head coach Jim Schwartz. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions have improved their win/loss record every year with Schwartz in control. With QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson leading the way the Lions are set with a high powered passing game. Their defense has improved, and the team is working to upgrade their secondary this year. We could see the Lions make another playoff push in 2012.

STL - Lance Kendricks expected to have big role in offense

Source: StLouisRams.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams TE Lance Kendricks is expected to have a prominent role in offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's offense based how he was used during offseason workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schottenheimer made Jets TE Dustin Keller into a top 10 player at the position (2010, 2011), and he could do the same with Kendricks. The second-year pro looked lost at times as a rookie, but has a good natural skill set and can produce as a move TE.

HOU - QB Matt Schaub to meet with doctor

Source: HoustonTexans.com - Nick Scurfield

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (foot) will meet with Dr. Robert Anderson within the next two weeks and expects to receive full medical clearance to participate in training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Schaub stays healthy this year we expect the Texans to be a serious contender for the Super Bowl. Even though he should be cleared for camp we think the Texans will ease him back so they don't aggravate his foot injury.

CLE - Brandon Weeden hopes for deal before camp

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden said he hopes to sign his contract before the start of training camp. He said the two sides are working on an agreement.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No worries here. Weeden is very likely to be the Browns week one starter, and they can't afford for the rookie to miss any time in training camp.

CLE - Trent Richardson waiting for top two to sign

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson said he is waiting for Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck and Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III to sign before signing with the Browns. 'For me, I think I'm really just waiting on one and two to get done,' Richardson said. 'Then when the big guys get done, I can sign.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The days of the rookie holdout are long gone. Once the top two sign, the deal for Richardson will fall into place.

KC - RB Dexter McCluster watching tape of Wes Welker

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster said he has been watching tape of New England Patriots WR Wes Welker this offseason because he could see time as a slot receiver this season. McCluster said he would like to play like Welker does because Welker gets open and plays hard every play.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like McCluster as a buy low candidate in dynasty leagues. He's yet to play up to his potential with the Chiefs and may have to go to a second team if he's going to emerge as a weapon.

TEN - WR Marc Mariani could be in better position to make team

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Marc Mariani is expected to compete for a roster spot during training camp but his improvement at wide receiver during offseason workouts in addition to his return abilities could help his chance to make the final roster. Head coach Mike Munchak said he was impressed with how Mariani performed with the offense during practices. Mariani said he is feeling healthier and stronger this offseason and believes the additional time he has spent with wide receivers coach Dave Ragone has helped his receiving skills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mariani is a fantastic return specialist because of his speed and moves in the open field. While he could make the final roster and see some time at WR we don't see him as much of a fantasy factor in traditional leagues that don't reward points for return yards.

DEN - No interest in QB McNabb?

Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for 102.3 ESPN Denver and senior writer at Footballguys.com, reports via Twitter that he's heard the Denver Broncos have no interest in free agent QB Donovan McNabb. Currently the Broncos have Caleb Hanie, Adam Weber, and rookie Brock Osweiler behind starter Peyton Manning.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Upon signing Manning in free agency, Broncos VP John Elway stated there was 'no plan B' behind the superstar QB. Hanie is considered by some as the primary backup, but he's struggled during minicamp and OTAs. However, Osweiler has looked like an improved QB this offseason. There's a chance the rookie could win the primary backup job behind Manning in training camp.

STL - Lance Kendricks says fatigue was problem in 2011

Source: StLouisRams.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams TE Lance Kendricks said he watched film on himself last season and saw that most of the mistakes he made during the season was when he was tired. 'The main thing I saw was a lot of times when I was tired was when I made my most mistakes,' Kendricks said. 'Just being able to stay focused and fight through that and compete and go out there and just perform when I am tired was my main thing I wanted to do better. When you get tired, you can forget things and I would have a mental error here or there so I think most of it just came from fatigue.' Kendricks added five pounds of muscle this offseason to improve his stamina and is looking to be more focused during games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still love the natural skill set Kendricks has and see him as a buy low 'lottery ticket' type of prospect in dynasty leagues. Kendricks showed good ball skills in college, but looked lost at times on the field last year as a rookie. If he can play up to his potential Kendricks could become a favorite target of QB Sam Bradford.

WAS - WR Santana Moss likely will make roster

Source: CSNWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Santana Moss likely will make the final roster this season after performing well during offseason workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moss has dropped 15 pounds this offseason and has looked spectacular according to those watching OTAs and minicamp. He'll compete with Josh Morgan to be the team's slot receiver in 2012.

DET - WR Nate Burleson willing to help Titus Young

Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson said he is willing to help WR Titus Young even though he knows Young will be taking his starting job at some point. 'I told Titus, I said, 'Look. There's no question that you're brought here to take my position. That's what you're brought here to do. And by the time I'm done, you should be ready to take that and you should be on your way to a new contract. And if you're not in those two positions, I don't think I did my job well enough,'' Burleson said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great leadership from the veteran here as he takes the second-year WR under his wing in a move that could cost him his starting job. Young could be a breakout player this season, and fantasy owners can add him in the mid 8th round. Coming out of Boise State in 2011 some in the scouting community compared Young to Eagles WR DeSean Jackson.

SEA - TE Visanthe Shiancoe rejects deal

Source: 1500ESPN.com - Tom Pelissero

The Seattle Seahawks offered free-agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe (Seahawks) a one-year deal worth $1.2 million but he decided not to accept the deal.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schiancoe had met with the Seahawks back in March, but has generated little interest on the open market. Seattle has added Kellen Winslow to be primary backup behind Zach Miller. Schiancoe is a notable veteran left on the free agent market and may have to wait for injuries to hit the TE position in order for him to catch on with a new team.

BUF - DE Mario Williams expected to see time on both sides

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills DE Mario Williams likely will be the starting left defensive end this season but is expected to see some time at right defensive end as well during the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moving Williams around will only make the Bills pass rush more effective. The team also added Mark Anderson in free agency and he'll help rush the passer as well.

NE - DE Andre Carter is looking for long-term deal

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

Free-agent DE Andre Carter (Patriots) is interested in re-signing with the New England Patriots but is looking for a three- or four-year deal and more than the $2.75 million he made last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots are concerned about his durability and are more willing to sign him to a one-year 'prove it' deal.
