PIT - RB Rashard Mendenhall injury update

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Scott Brown

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) has resumed working out. He suffered a torn ACL Jan. 1, and general manager Kevin Colbert believes Mendenhall will open the season on the PUP list, making him unable to play until after the team's sixth game of the year.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After the first six weeks of the season the Steelers will then have three weeks to decide Mendenhall's fate. At that time they can activate him or put him on season ending Injured Reserve. Mendenhall is in the final year of his contract with the Steelers.

PIT - Hope Isaac Redman can be a physical RB

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman's between-the-tackles running style potentially gives the offense a better shot at getting back to a physical brand of football. Since the start of the 2010 season, RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) averaged 3.9 yards per carry, the fifth worst among the 28 players with at least 300 rushes in the past two seasons. Mendenhall also had the second fewest yards after contact (1.6 per carry) among running backs with at least 200 carries.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Redman's running style is straight forward and powerful. He's a no-nonsense runner who stays low and grinds between the tackles. Redman should be more than capable of giving the Steelers a power element on the ground.

BUF - Stevie Johnson injury update

Source: CBSSports.com

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (groin) participated in some individual drills Friday, June 15. Johnson looked good but wasn't moving at full speed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team will be careful with their superstar WR as he plays with this groin injury. His workload may increase in next week's mandatory minicamp, and he should be 100% by the start of training camp.

CHI - Lovie Smith expects RB Matt Forte at camp

Source: CSNChicago.com - John Mullin

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he expects franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte to arrive for training camp. 'Can't wait to get down to training camp, to get a few more of our guys back out there in the mix,' Smith said, mentioning, 'Brian Urlacher, get Matt Forte back out there, those guys.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This Forte contract situation could last through training camp. The Bears are concerned about Forte's knees holding up and are hesitant to give him a big money deal. They added holdout insurance when they added Michael Bush in free agency.

SD - Vincent Brown poised for breakout season?

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown could emerge as a big part of the offense in 2012 and perhaps even lead the team in receptions.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is a fantastic route runner and has incredible hand/eye coordination. His hands are soft and he does a good job of looking in passes before turning up the field to run.

PIT - WR Mike Wallace and team still negotiating

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Scott Brown

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not reduced their one-year, $2.7 million offer to WR Mike Wallace, a restricted free agent, and they never seriously considered exercising that option.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said the team is in negotiations with Wallace and they have always wanted to sign him to a long-term deal. We don't think this lasts into training camp.

TB - TE Kellen Winslow was not a fan of Greg Schiano

Source: NFL.com

Seattle Seahawks TE Kellen Winslow said he was not a fan of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano's militaristic ways. Winslow added he was also unhappy over the departure of former head coach Raheem Morris. 'Schiano came over there and he (yelled), 'Toes on the line! Toes on the line!' Blowing the whistle. You can't laugh. You can't joke around. So, I decided not to go to OTAs,' Winslow said. 'They got my man Rah (Raheem Morris) up out of there, and I was loyal to him. I would take a bullet for that dude. So, I had to roll, man.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So much for Winslow being a soldier. Shciano's militaristic style is exactly what the team needs after the day camp atmosphere that was the style of former head coach Raheem Morris.

OAK - Coaching staff impressed with QB Carson Palmer

Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said he couldn't be anymore pleased with QB Carson Palmer after seeing him perform during offseason workouts. 'He's been an outstanding leader,' Allen said. 'He's taken to the new system, has a good command of what we're asking him to do. He's coaching the young guys. You couldn't ask for anything better than what we're getting out of Carson right now.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer was well into retirement last year before the Raiders made a deal with the Bengals to add him. Having an offseason to work with weapons like WR Denarius Moore and Juron Criner will only make him better this year. Palmer's ADP is QB19 and he's coming off the board in the late 11th round in standard 12-team leagues.

OAK - Taiwan Jones impressive during minicamp

Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders RB Taiwan Jones had an impressive showing during the team's mandatory minicamp. Jones broke many big runs with his blazing speed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones can make plays as a change of pace back for the Raiders. If/when Darren McFadden is hurt we feel the team would use a RBBC featuring Mike Goodson and FB Marcel Reece. Jones would likely still remain a change of pace back in that scenario.

MIA - RB Reggie Bush feels team will run a lot this year

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Izzy Gould

Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush said the team is still going to run the football a lot in 2012 despite shifting over to a West Coast offense. 'I don't think that's something that's going to change too much,' Bush said. Bush had career highs in rushes (216), yards (1,086) and rushing touchdowns (six) last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Durability is a big concern with Bush. An expanded role may be in the works for second-year RB Daniel Thomas if he can stay healthy. The Dolphins also have a sleeper RB to keep an eye on in rookie Lamar Miller. The former Hurricanes RB reminds a lot of scouts of a young Clinton Portis and has been turning heads in OTAs.

PHI - QB Michael Vick feeling the heat

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Les Bowen

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he understand there is pressure for the team to win this upcoming season. Vick's contract extension last year was written to make it easy for the team to part ways after this season. 'Nobody has come to me and told me, 'Your future lies in this season.' What I do know is that this is a big year for us, because we've got all the pieces in place. It seems like everything is there for us,' Vick said. 'What I say is, this team is in position to make a run ... This is what the organization builds for, to put a team together that can go out and compete. It takes years to put a team together. When you finally get to that moment, you're like, 'OK, here we go. Let's go get it.''

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The pressure is on the Eagles to compete for a Super Bowl in one of the league's toughest divisions. Vick has the weight of the team on his shoulders, but should perform better than last year because of the offseason program.

CLE - Not looking for much in a QB Colt McCoy trade

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

The Cleveland Browns would like to trade QB Colt McCoy in order to provide him with a new opportunity. The Browns will not demand much in a trade.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns aren't going to get much for McCoy in return. The Packers could show interest in McCoy as a backup QB behind Aaron Rodgers. Regardless of where he lands, we don't think McCoy will be competing for a starting job unless there's an injury in front of him on the depth chart.

CIN - TE Jermaine Gresham looking to improve

Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham has been watching the play of New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski and New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham from last year. 'I've watched every catch five times ... You have to see what they're doing. How they're getting open, how they're getting so many balls,' Gresham said. The Bengals are hoping Gresham can turn into an X-factor for second-year QB Andy Dalton. Gresham is looking at improving his yards per catch, while Dalton said Gresham will probably have more catches this year simply because everyone has a better idea of what is going on in the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gresham is one of the most physically gifted TEs in the league but has yet to play up to his potential. He's a good blocker and a very good receiver as well. Gresham could become one of QB Andy Dalton's favorite targets in the passing game.

BAL - WR Jacoby Jones likely No. 3 receiver

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Edward Lee

Baltimore Ravens WR Jacoby Jones is likely the leading candidate to be the team's No. 3 receiver this year, as he has far more experience and production than that of WRs LaQuan Williams and Tandon Doss. Jones said he is comfortable playing whatever role the team wants him to, and said he is going to have to produce more with fewer opportunities than he had with the Houston Texans.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has a nice size/speed combination but has never truly played up to his full potential. We'll see if that changes with a fresh start in Baltimore.

DAL - Three rookies miss minicamp

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Danny Coale (foot), DE Tyrone Crawford (calf) and LB Kyle Wilber (finger) did not participate in minicamp this week because of injuries.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coale should be back during training camp and he'll fight with Kevin Ogletree and Dwayne Harris to be the team's third WR.

CIN - No update on extension for Marvin Lewis

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he did not have any updates regarding a contract extension with the team. Lewis is entering the final year of his current contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals made a playoff run last year and expect to do the same in 2012. Getting to the postseason again would help the chances of Lewis getting the extension he desires.

MIA - TE Anthony Fasano says some not thrilled with Hard Knocks

Source: USAToday.com - Nate Davis

Miami Dolphins TE Anthony Fasano said he and some of his teammates were not thrilled when they were told the team will be on Hard Knocks during training camp because they will have to deal with the cameras and try not to let it be a distraction.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some not thrilled are HBO subscribers. The Dolphins aren't quite the draw the Jets were when they were featured on the show. Even adding WR Chad Ochocinco isn't enough to make the team compelling TV.

BUF - QB Young does not get a lot of guaranteed money

Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young only received $350,000 in guaranteed money in his one-year deal, which could be a factor when the team decides if Young will be their No. 2 quarterback. Young will make a base salary of $1.25 million if he makes the team and is scheduled to receive just over $24,000 per game every week he is on the active roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Young is battling with Tyler Thigpen to be the primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills plan to use WR/QB Brad Smith as their third-string guy.

BUF - WR Brad Smith saw time at WR

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith saw time at wide receiver during organized team activities Thursday, June 14, even though he has been working with the quarterbacks during all of the previous offseason workouts. Smith said it was a challenge changing from the quarterbacks to the receivers but will try to do the best with his opportunities.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith is a versatile player who can help out as a WR and a QB. He's going to be the team's third-string QB and could see the field in Wildcat formations. Smith will also play as a reserve receiver.

BUF - Three expected to be in contention for No. 2 WR job

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones, Marcus Easley and Derek Hagan are expected to be the main candidates for the No. 2 wide receiver job during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Easley is the most talented WR in this group, but injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential in his pro career. However, at this time it sounds like Jones is pulling ahead slightly in the competition.

BAL - DT Haloti Ngata looking a little overweight

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Mike Preston

Baltimore Ravens DT Haloti Ngata said he currently weighs around 345 pounds but looked like he weighed between 365 to 380 pounds during minicamp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The veteran DT should be able to get his weight down before and during training camp. The team doesn't sound concerned with Ngata's added weight at this time.
