JAX - RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not attend minicamp

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not be attending the team's mandatory minicamp that begins Tuesday, June 12, as he seeks a new contract. He could receive a maximum fine of $63,000 if he misses the entire minicamp, per the new collective bargaining agreement.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones-Drew is coming off of his best season with only two years left on his contract. He is due about nine million total over the next two seasons. His willingness to give up 63,000 dollars, which is not insignificant, shows that he could hold out into training camp, or even the season. Rashad Jennings is a must-own for Jones-Drew owners as holdout insurance.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning working his way back

Source: USAToday.com - Nate Davis

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's velocity isn't at top form during minicamp practices this week, but the quarterback and doctors are encouraged with his progress from multiple neck surgeries.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning's preseason debut will be one of the most anticipated of the summer. His injury/lower performance risk is more than priced into his ADP, which should only rise as the season approaches.

IND - Andrew Luck returns to team

Source: The Associated Press

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck returned to the team Tuesday, June 12, for the first time in 5 1/2 weeks, and he had only one of his 16 passes hit the ground during workouts. The team is beginning their three-day mandatory minicamp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck is one of the most NFL-ready rookie quarterbacks in NFL history. He should be just fine despite the missed OTAs.

NYJ - TE Dustin Keller frustrated by lack of long-term deal

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets TE Dustin Keller said Monday, June 11, that he would like to enter the season with the security of a long-term deal. 'It's a little frustrating,' Keller said. However, he added that he isn't terribly concerned because it is still early in the process.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keller has been maddeningly inconsistent the last few seasons, always starting hot and fading quickly by Halloween. The Jets are smart to make him perform before they commit.

CLE - Brandon Weeden vows to sign before camp

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden reiterated Monday, June 11, that he will sign his rookie contract before training camp starts in late July. 'I'm ready to sign it,' Weeden said. 'I'm not gonna miss any time. I'm gonna sign before (training) camp. It's just nitpick stuff, but we'll get it done. I'll get it done.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weeden's agent might want some consideration for the fact that the quarterback is coming in as a first-day starter and key piece of the team, but there is little wiggle room in the rookie salary slotting system.

MIA - WR Chad Ochocinco receiving minimum

Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco will receive the veteran's minimum of $925,000 for his one-year deal. However, he can double that figure to just over $2 million through incentives, but he'll need to haul in 80 catches in order to do so. He caught only 15 balls last year. There is no guaranteed money in the deal.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ochocinco is no lock to even make the team, but the Dolphins clearly coveted his services. The depth chart is weak enough there for Ochocinco to start, so if he can't earn a large role, he's probably done as a productive pro.

CLE - QB Seneca Wallace impressed with Brandon Weeden

Source: The Associated Press

Cleveland Browns backup QB Seneca Wallace, who doesn't think there is room for himself on the roster anymore, said QB Brandon Weeden has 'all the things you want in a quarterback.' Head coach Pat Shurmur hasn't officially named Weeden as the starter, although he's being groomed for that role.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wallace would be an upgrade at backup quarterback for at least a few teams, including Philadelphia. The Browns would be smart to shop him once everyone has had a chance to see their QB situation up close and personal in the preseason.

WAS - WR Pierre Garcon expected to have big year

Source: Twitter

A Washington Redskins executive expects WR Pierre Garcon to have a big year with the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Garcon was signed soon after the trade for the pick that was sure to turn into Robert Griffin III, so they must have liked the combination. He had almost 1000 yards with Curtis Painter at quarterback last year, so he looks like a terrific value as a WR3 in the mid-rounds.

CIN - CB Leon Hall ahead of schedule

Source: The Associated Press

Cincinnati Bengals CB Leon Hall (Achilles') said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab, and he's hoping to be ready for training camp at the end of July. He's being limited to side work during minicamp this week after tearing his Achilles' Nov. 13 of last season. Hall has been running forward and backward without incident.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hall has to recover quickly to hold off rookie first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick.

NE - TE Jake Ballard claimed off waivers

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

The New England Patriots claimed TE Jake Ballard off waivers from the New York Giants Tuesday, June 12, according to Ballard's agent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots would seem to have the least need at tight end of any team in the league, but they lost two players at the position on waivers last year and use the position as much as any offense in the NFL. Ballard has zero fantasy value as a Patriot, but the move does open up long-term fantasy value for Giants fourth-round pick Adrien Robinson, who the team called the "Jason Pierre-Paul of tight ends".

NYJ - WR Santonio Holmes sitting out, other receivers nicked up

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is on the sidelines during the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 12, with a tight hamstring. 'Obviously, I pushed the wideout group, in particular, a little too hard,' head coach Rex Ryan said. '... That's a mistake I made.' WRs Jeremy Kerley, Patrick Turner, Chaz Schilens and Stephen Hill are also nursing hamstring injuries. Hill didn't practice at all Tuesday.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

For once, Holmes is out and it's not controversial. Still, it's hard to like his fantasy stock this year with the air of unhappiness around him and the prospects of Tim Tebow taking over at QB at some point during the season.

NYJ - Tim Tebow working with backups

Source: The Associated Press

New York Jets QB Tim Tebow will take snaps with only the second-team offense during the team's three-day minicamp this week. QB Mark Sanchez will run the first-string offense. WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) could be limited after straining his hamstring during organized team activities last week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The media is going to pore over this situation for any possible angle to play up for controversy. The Jets know they need to tread lightly, both to avoid publicity storms and to protect what remains of Sanchez's confidence.

IND - Speed has been priority for new GM

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Phil Richards

Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has stressed speed during his makeover of the team's roster. He signed free-agent WR Donnie Avery, who has blinding speed, and nabbed speedster WRs T.Y. Hilton and LaVon Brazill through the draft. In addition, TE Coby Fleener is a tight end in name, but he has elite speed. Free-agent CBs Cassius Vaughn and Justin King also have exceptional speed. 'At the end of the day you want people to be fast but also to play fast, and those guys play fast,' Grigson said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This approach doesn't quite match the roster makeup of the Colts AFC South foes, so if Luck is ready to pilot an NFL offense, it could pay dividends.

NYJ - CB Darrelle Revis shows up

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis showed up to the team's mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 12.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Revis's contract issues have threatened to take on an Osi Umenyiora trajectory into perpetual discontent, but it looks like he has put them aside for now.

BAL - DE Terrell Suggs not using crutches

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs (Achilles') is no longer using crutches, and he's expected to start his rehab at the team's facilities if his scar tissue is healed. Suggs continues to think he could be ready around midseason. LB Paul Kruger is filling for Suggs during the team's minicamp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Suggs could definitely be a factor in the playoffs, and if the team keeps him on a limited snap count in November and December, he could help in the run to the playoffs. His fantasy value is minimal for this year, but recent comebacks by explosive players who suffered achilles injuries should preserve Suggs' dynasty value.
