MIA - WR Chad Ochocinco signs

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent WR Chad Ochocinco (Patriots) to a one-year deal Monday, June 11.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ochocinco actually has a chance to start in Miami. With only Davone Bess and Brian Hartline standing in his way, a receiver of his caliber should be able to win a job with the first team. The problem is that he had Tom Brady in his corner in New England, and still couldn't produce. It is surprising that he could get a job so quickly with players like Plaxico Burress and Braylon Edwards still unsigned.

MIN - WR Jerome Simpson officially suspended three games

Source: KFFL.com

The NFL has announced Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson has officially been suspended for the first three games of the 2012 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Simpson has also been fined an additional game check. He is eligible to participate in training camp and preseason games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

2011 seventh-round pick Stephen Burton and 2012 fourth-round pick Greg Childs could have an extended audition in September while Simpson is out. Simpson was greatly impressed onlookers at OTAs, so he is a good deep sleeper if you are willing to wait out his suspension.

TEN - OC does not see 25 touches per game for RB Chris Johnson

Source: The Tennessean - David Climer

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said he does not think RB Chris Johnson will be getting 25 touches per game because that may not be the best think for the team to win games. 'To say you're going to get a guy 25 touches a game is pushing it,' Palmer said. 'That's 400 touches over the course of a season. He's certainly capable of that, but what does it mean for the team? Does it help us win?'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson doesn't need 400 touches to be a fantasy RB1 if he finds the burst he lost for much of last season. He's still worth a pick in the top 6-7 RBs off the board.

JAX - GM expects RB Maurice Jones-Drew to be at minicamp

Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said he expects RB Maurice Jones-Drew will be present at minicamp this week even though he is seeking a new contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt Forte is a much bigger risk to get mired in a holdout than Jones-Drew, and we also expect him to show up when camp opens, if not at the team's mini camp this week.

JAX - Will not renegotiate RB Maurice Jones-Drew's deal

Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said the team will not renegotiate RB Maurice Jones-Drew's contract and expect Jones-Drew to fulfill the final two years of his contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Running backs around the league are getting the short end of contract standoffs because of the brutal and fast-burning nature of the position.

BUF - RB C.J. Spiller to still be third-down back

Source: ESPN - John Clayton

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson is expected to be the featured back for the team on first and second downs this upcoming season, while RB C.J. Spiller can mix in on special packages and on passing downs. He can also line up in the backfield with Jackson on certain packages and try to catch defenses off guard with his speed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This will keep Jackson from producing at the top five clip he ran at last year, but he is still undervalued. Spiller is a bit overvalued, but passing down and change of pace touches can still keep him at a flex level play.

PIT - WR Mike Wallace could see reduced tender

Source: CBSSports.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers could reduce the tender of restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace by $2 million if he remains unsigned as of Friday, June 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vincent Jackson tried this gambit and lost in the short term, while still getting his money in the long run. The Steelers are usually very disciplined about holding their ground in these contract situations, so Wallace could be committing himself to a long, unsuccessful hold out if he doesn't sign his tender.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger notes offensive progress

Source: NFL.com

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said the new offense made progress throughout organized team activities. 'We've made some strides. Every day is a little bit better,' Roethlisberger said. 'I'm not saying I could go out and call a game myself right now but I understand when (Haley) calls a play I know what's going on for the most part.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger's tune is changing, and his upside as a backup fantasy quarterback is rising. He's a great bench pick if you decide to go with a risky QB1 like Peyton Manning or Michael Vick.

MIA - QB David Garrard working with first team

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins QB David Garrard was working with the first-team offense during organized team activities Monday, June 11.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Garrard is still the longest shot of the three Dolphins quarterbacks to start week 1. Matt Moore is the incumbent and produced all of the team's wins last year, while number eight overall pick Ryan Tannehill knows offensive coordinator Mike Sherman's offense.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant to play smarter on special teams

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Tim MacMahon

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant said he is learning to play smarter when returning punts. Bryant said it's better to go down sometimes instead of always trying to make a big play and taking hits. 'I feel like I'm learning a little bit,' Bryant said. 'I know there's times that I should go down. I just feel like it's my job to try to score every time, every single play, but I'm learning that sometimes just go down.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Playmaker's instincts are hard to change on the fly. Bryant shouldn't be thinking about not getting injured while he has the ball in his hands. The Cowboys will be better off only using him as a returner in crucial game situations.

SEA - Contracts will not affect QB competition

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Although the Seattle Seahawks signed QB Matt Flynn to a three-year, $19 million contract with $10 million guaranteed this year, head coach Pete Carroll said he won't be thinking about contracts when he makes his decision about who will start. Instead, a decision will be based on who looks best over the summer. 'Draft picks and money and stuff like that is not going to play in the decision at all,' Carroll said. 'We're going to go with what it looks like through the competition and how they play, and the results of that, and how we feel about that.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks can say that, but it will be hard to justify starting Jackson over Flynn if the battle is close because of the money invested in Flynn. Unless we hear and see that Flynn is bombing in practice and the preseason, we expect him to start.

CAR - Would like to see WR Brandon LaFell start

Source: ESPN.com - Pat Yasinskas

The Carolina Panthers would like to see WR Brandon LaFell starting Week 1 but he has not been guaranteed the job. LaFell is expected to compete with WR David Gettis for the starting job if Gettis is healthy during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell is expected to start and could be a nice end of the bench sleeper in deep leagues.

NYG - TE Jake Ballard waived

Source: Giants.com - Michael Eisen

The New York Giants have waived TE Jake Ballard (knee) because of a failed physical.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ballard has gone from starting in the Super Bowl to the street as a free agent in about four months. He won't be a much use to a team this year after microfracture surgery, but he could be back in 2013, even for the Giants.

BUF - WR Donald Jones has early lead for No. 2 WR job

Source: Twitter

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said WR Donald Jones is currently the frontrunner for the No. 2 wide receiver job but there is a long way to go before the start of the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marcus Easley is a better physical talent, and Derek Hagan should also have something to say in the battle for this position. David Nelson has the slot held down, and the Bills will also throw to their running backs, so the number two in this offense might not be fantasy-friendly.

BUF - Stevie Johnson works on side

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (groin, hamstring) worked on the sidelines by himself during organized team activities Monday, June 11. He was only running at half speed while working out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson played well through his groin injury last year, so we're not worried about his affecting his production. He is an underrated fantasy receiver who is available outside of the top 20 wideouts even though he's a number one in a pass first offense.

BUF - WR Brad Smith working exclusively at QB

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith has worked exclusively at quarterback since the start of offseason workouts. 'From every meeting I've had he's been in all my meetings,' said quarterbacks coach David Lee. 'He's a quarterback who happens to be a great special teams player and he plays a lot of receiver also, which is where he was used last year. But he still has a role at quarterback in this offense.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills seem very willing to utilize Smith's unique skillset. With a full offseason to incorporate Smith into plays and packages designed for him, expect to see more of Smith in the offense this season.

KC - TE Kevin Boss not a fan of Oakland

Source: NFL.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Kevin Boss said he has moved on to greener pastures after joining the team from the Oakland Raiders. 'I was in Oakland for such a short period of time that it wasn't really something where I really understood the whole Chiefs-Raiders rivalry,' Boss said. 'I just know now that I'm on the better side of the rivalry ... It's been a great transition and it's really been a blessing in disguise to have been moved on to greener pastures.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In defense of the Raiders organization, the death of owner Al Davis and sudden shift in the power structure made an already dysfunctional organization even more unstable. GM Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen seem to have things on track this year.

WAS - S Brandon Meriweather expected to be favorite for SS job

Source: The Washington Times - Rich Campbell

Washington Redskins FS Brandon Meriweather is expected to enter training camp as the favorite for the starting strong safety job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meriweather had an offseason arrest, but he also got over three million dollars guaranteed in his contract. Dejon Gomes flashed at times last year and could be an option if Meriweather falters, as he has at his previous two stops.
