NE - TE Rob Gronkowski reaches extension

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The New England Patriots agreed to a six-year, $54 million extension with TE Rob Gronkowski Friday, June 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronk only needs to stay healthy and his pro career could see him shatter records at the TE position. It's a good move for the Patriots to lock up one of the most important pieces to their offense. Other teams in the league will try to copycat what the Patriots do with Gronkowski, but he's the original and now will be a Patriot for the foreseeable future.

SD - RB Ronnie Brown agrees to terms

Source: KFFL.com

The San Diego Chargers have agreed to terms with free-agent RB Ronnie Brown (Eagles) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers weren't in a rush for veteran depth at the RB position. Instead, they wanted to evaluate the players they already had behind starter Ryan Mathews. Well, the evaluation process must have shown them a weakness at backup RB and that's why they added Brown. He's not the same player he used to be but can help the Chargers as a complementary runner and receiver out of the backfield.

BAL - RB Ray Rice not expected to be at minicamp

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said he does not expect franchise free-agent RB Ray Rice to attend minicamp next week since he have not received a new deal at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No deal at this time, but we feel Rice will be signed to a new deal in the near future. Teams have until July 16th to sign Franchise Players to new long-term contracts.

HOU - QB Matt Schaub doing well in rehab

Source: Houston Chronicle - Sam Kahn Jr.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said QB Matt Schaub (foot) is doing well in his rehab from foot surgery and could have participated in the organized team activities Thursday, June 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans have set themselves up for a Super Bowl run in 2012. In order to do that they'll need Schaub at full strength.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson thinks he can improve

Source: MLive.com - Anwar Richardson

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson said he believes he can improve his play this season and that there will always be something he can improve on each year. 'There's always more room for growth,' Johnson said. 'If you feel you've reached the point where you don't have anything work on ... I'm at a loss for words right now. Just knowing me, just myself, I always feel like there is something I can work on every year.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An improved Calvin Johnson is a scary thought for opponents. Johnson finished 2011 as the number one WR in fantasy football and should be a lock to finish in the top five this year. However, conspiracy theorists point to his appearance on the new Madden cover as a reason why he will have a down year.

PIT - Will not reduce WR Mike Wallace's tender

Source: The Sports Xchange - Len Pasquarelli

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the option to reduce restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace's tender from $2.7 million to $577,500 he does not sign by June 15 but the team has no intention of doing so.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers would like to sign Wallace to a long-term contract, but a reduction would not help negotiations. We feel Wallace will get the kind of deal he wants before the start of training camp. In Todd Haley's new offense Wallace could perform like a top 5 fantasy WR once again.

CHI - QB thinks RB Matt Forte will be at camp

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he would be surprised if franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte does not report for training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Here's what we call wishful thinking. This Forte situation could last well into training camp. The Bears added holdout insurance when they added Michael Bush in free agency.

NFL - Possible landing spots for WR Chad Ochocinco

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys are all possible landing spots for free-agent WR Chad Ochocinco (Patriots), but nothing is imminent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't imagine the market being white hot for a guy who couldn't produce in one of the league's best passing attacks. Ochocinco may have to wait until training camp hits and injuries at the WR position strike.

HOU - Two QB to split reps during minicamp

Source: Houston Chronicle - Sam Kahn Jr.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said QBs John Beck and Case Keenum will split the reps during minicamp next week. Kubiak said QB T.J. Yates will sit out the practices.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beck was added after the Redskins cut him earlier this year. Keenum was added as an Undrafted Free Agent after the 2012 NFL Draft. We like Keenum to win the third QB job behind Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates.

BAL - Owner hopes to sign QB, RB to long-term deals

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said the team would like to sign QB Joe Flacco and franchise free-agent RB Ray Rice to long-term contracts before the start of the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

From all indications it sounds like Rice will get his deal first. The team knows the veteran RB is the heart and soul of the offense. Flacco may have to wait until after the season to get a new deal. The team could always choose to place the Franchise Tag on him in 2013.

BUF - WR Marcus Easley performing well in OTAs

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he has been impressed with how WR Marcus Easley has performed during organized team activities this offseason. 'His work ethic and the things he's done in the offseason to get ready to participate. He's been so strong and so good I haven't had to say a word to him. He is an upbeat guy. He knows he's got to fight an uphill battle to get into the fray, but I think he can,' Gailey said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Easley is a quality receiver but injuries have held him back during his pro career. The Bills have a need for playmaking WRs behind Steve Johnson and Easley could help out in that rotation.

MIA - Could show interest in WR Chad Ochocinco

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

The Miami Dolphins may show interest in free-agent WR Chad Ochocinco (Patriots) and may consider working him out at some point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins currently have Brian Hartline and Davone Bess as their two leading WRs. That's simply not good enough so the addition of a veteran like Ochocinco makes some sense. However, if he had a tough time picking up the Patriots offense there's no guarantee he'd have an easy time picking up Mike Sherman's offense. Also, the Dolphins are trying to groom rookie QB Ryan Tannehill and may not want a distraction like Ochocinco on the team.

ARI - Rob Housler got a lot of reps during OTAs

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler received a lot of reps during organized team activities this offseason. The team would like to use two tight ends in some passing situations with Housler as one of the tight ends.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Housler is competing for playing time behind Todd Heap and Jeff King. He's a talented move TE who can attack the deep middle seam of the defense.

DAL - Unlikely to bring in WR Terrell Owens, WR Chad Ochocinco

Source: The Sports Xchange - Len Pasquarelli

The Dallas Cowboys likely will not pursue free-agent WRs Terrell Owens (Bengals) or Chad Ochocinco (Patriots) this offseason. The team has watched tape on both receivers and was not impressed with what they saw.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both players are not what they used to be. Owens already burned bridges in Dallas, and Ochocinco couldn't produce in the Patriots high powered passing game with Tom Brady throwing him the ball.

BUF - Marcell Dareus looking to get in better shape

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus said he has losing weight this offseason because he wants to play faster than he did last season. Dareus played at 341 last season but weighed 331 pounds when offseason workouts began and hopes to get down to 325 pounds.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dareus is a key piece to the Bills D-Line. He's big enough to be a quality run stuffer, but also is athletic and active enough to push the pocket. Adding Mario Williams and Mark Anderson as pass rushing DEs will only make Dareus more difficult to contend with in 2012.

CAR - OLB Thomas Davis get positive review on knee

Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (knee) recently met with Dr. James Andrews and received a positive review about the his surgically repaired knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis has been given clearance for an increased workload during the team's upcoming minicamp. We still feel the Panthers will be very cautious with the veteran LB as he comes back from yet another injury.

NYJ - Quinton Coples may stand up in some packages

Source: The Sports Xchange - Len Pasquarelli

The New York Jets are working with DE Quinton Coples to be a stand-up pass rusher in some defensive packages this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coples is able to rush the passer either standing up or with his hand in the dirt. His main job will be to get after the passer. If Coples can play with the effort he did at the Senior Bowl then he has a chance to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
