NO - Getting close to deal with QB Drew Brees

Source: WWL.com - Krisitan Garic

The New Orleans Saints are close to agreeing to a five-year deal with franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's been progress in talks between the two sides and we may see a deal with Brees sooner than some think. The team has until July 16th to sign Brees to a long-term extension. Brees is asking for around $20MM per season, and the Saints may oblige.

CLE - Brandon Weeden struggling with accuracy

Source: CBSSports.com

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden has struggled with his accuracy recently during offseason workouts. He has underthrown several passes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weeden has a strong arm and is not afraid to throw into tight coverage. However, he doesn't do a good job of throwing his receivers open. In college WR Justin Blackmon was able to bail Weeden out a lot on the field. Weeden also struggles with pressure and is not athletic enough to evade the rush.

CHI - RB Matt Forte speaks out

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Chicago Bears franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte said Wednesday, June 6, that he's not looking to be the NFL's highest-paid running back, but seeking a long-term contract commiserate with his standing among other players around the league at his position. 'All you can ask for is respect, and you go out there and you do your best to earn it. Respect isn't given to anybody,' Forte said. 'You've got to earn it out there. So the way I go about playing the game, preparing for it and the way I play, I feel I have earned the respect.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This disagreement shows no sign of resolve in the near future. Forte may holdout of training camp, and it could last into the regular season. The Bears added holdout insurance when they got Michael Bush in free agency.

NE - WR Chad Ochocinco released

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The New England Patriots have released WR Chad Ochocinco. The team tried to trade him but released him when they could not find a trade partner.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No real surprise here. Ochocinco failed to impress with the Patriots and was still having trouble picking up the offense in OTAs. The 34-year old WR is unlikely to have many suitors in free agency, and if he does sign it will only be as veteran depth and not as a starter.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles to have knee examined

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will have his knee examined June 18, to determine if he is cleared to participate at the start of training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles should be good to go for training camp, but we still think the Chiefs will monitor him closely as he returns from this injury. He's a dangerous playmaker with the football in his hands, but his fantasy value will be limited as the Chiefs added Peyton Hillis in free agency this offseason.

MIN - RB Toby Gerhart could get heavy workload early

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Dan Wiederer

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated RB Toby Gerhart may receive a heavy workload at the beginning of the season because of RB Adrian Petersonís (knee) knee. Frazier said the team wants Gerhart at a certain weight when he gets to training camp but do not want him to lose his speed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson is back to sprinting but the team will be extremely cautious with their superstar RB in training camp. They could ease him back into action at the beginning of the season.

CLE - Coach says Trent Richardson starter

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said it would be safe to say that RB Trent Richardson is the starting running back entering training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No question! Richardson is the rare workhorse RB and reminds us of the Vikings Adrian Peterson. His current ADP has him as a top 10 RB you can add at the beginning of the second round.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant wants to earn QB Tony Romo's trust

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Tim MacMahon

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant said his goal is to earn the trust of QB Tony Romo and the coaching staff in order to receive the ball more often. 'As wideouts, itís our job to try our best to impress the quarterback, the head coach, the offensive coordinator, our wide receivers coach to show them that weíre good enough to do this job,' Bryant said. 'The main thing is weíve got to get the trust in Tony that we can beat this guy no matter what the situation is, (that) we can get it. We try to get that confidence so Tony will feel good throwing us the rock.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has all the world's talent but has yet to play up to his enormous potential. If he can earn the trust of Romo we feel Bryant could perform like a top 5 WR.

CIN - RBs to share carries

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals RBs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Bernard Scott will split carries this upcoming season. Scott doesnít have any idea how many carries he will get per game, but he does think the setup will work well. 'I think me and BenJarvus are going to be ready to handle how many carries they want to give us. I think it will be pretty even, but you never know,' Scott said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green-Ellis was signed in free agency as the Bengals move on from the Cedric Benson era. Green-Ellis is a reliable inside runner who can be the team's grinder. Scott is very fast and a threat to score anytime he touches the football. We like Green-Ellis as a low end RB2 you can add in the fourth-round of standard 12-team leagues.

TEN - RB Chris Johnson says he's still top RB

Source: The Associated Press

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson, who has packed on eight to nine pounds of muscle this offseason, insists he is still the top running back in the NFL. 'I just know when I have been through the same things as everyone as far as camp and being on the same page as my offensive line, I feel like I am the best back in the league,' Johnson said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love seeing this mindset from the veteran RB here. Johnson had a disappointing season in 2011 and finished the year as the 16th best RB in fantasy football. We feel that Johnson is primed for a bounce back season and could finish the year as a top 10 fantasy RB once again.

CLE - Brandon Weeden getting most reps

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said QB Brandon Weeden has received the most reps among the quarterbacks during organized team activities.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns say it's a QB competition but it would be shocking if Weeden isn't the starter in week one. Colt McCoy may find himself on the trading block when training camp gets here. Expect a team like Green Bay to be interested if McCoy were to become available.

GB - Randall Cobb could get bigger role

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tyler Dunne

The Green Bay Packers may consider giving WR Randall Cobb a bigger role in the offense this season if he is able to get more comfortable with the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb is a great sleeper WR to scoop up late in your fantasy drafts. His current ADP is after the 14th round in standard 12-team leagues. Cobb is dangerous in the open field and could be a real weapon over the middle for the Packers. He's competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson.

NYJ - Tim Tebow still seeing time on special teams

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Tim Tebow is seeing time on special teams as a personal protector on the punt team during organized team activities Thursday, June 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tebow will help the Jets in multiple ways this season. He'll work on special teams, as a Wildcat QB, and may take over as the starting QB if Mark Sanchez struggles this year.

TEN - Schedule difficulty factors into QB decision

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, June 6, that the difficulty of the early schedule is at least a factor in the choice of starting quarterback between QBs Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a QB competition that could last throughout training camp. It's Locker's job eventually, but the team may decide to begin the season with Hasselbeck as they navigate through the hard part of their schedule. However, Locker may just win this job outright as he showed flashes of brilliance last year as a rookie when he filled in for an injured Hasselbeck.

CHI - TE Kellen Davis looks for increase in production

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears TE Kellen Davis is looking for a dramatic increase in production under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice. 'I'd like to have between 40-60 catches at least,' Davis said. 'I'm hoping to get out there and put some numbers up.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Former OC Mike Martz didn't use the TE position much, but new OC Mike Tice should have a more TE-friendly system. We expect the Bears to have a high powered passing game, and Davis should post better numbers than he did last year. However, we don't think he'll be much of a fantasy factor in 2012. Davis is going undrafted in standard 12-team leagues.

TEN - Kendall Wright has been learning different spots

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

The Tennessee Titans have had WR Kendall Wright work at each of the outside wide receiver positions during organized team activities so he can learn how to play at those spots.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright is a playmaker who can line up outside or as a slot WR on the inside. His skill set reminds many in the scouting community of the Panthers Steve Smith.

NO - QB Luke McCown signed

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The New Orleans Saints have signed free-agent QB Luke McCown (Jaguars), according to his agent. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCown is a camp arm. He'll compete with Sean Canfield to be the Saints third QB behind Drew Brees and Chase Daniel.

TEN - Kendall Wright could be used as returner

Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak has not ruled out the possibility of using WR Kendall Wright as a kick and punt returner this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright is extremely dangerous in the open field and has quick acceleration and rare burst out of his cuts. He's a multipurpose weapon who can be used in a number of different ways.

SF - Unlikely to try RB Anthony Dixon at FB

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to try RB Anthony Dixon out at fullback because he does not fit the profile of a fullback since he tries to avoid contact. Dixon will have to perform well during training camp in order to make the final roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon will get cut if he can't impress in training camp. He's a "space runner" who fails to show proper instincts running inside. Dixon is a big back runs too upright and fails to run with enough power.

DAL - DeMarco Murray trying to prove himself

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is not satisfied despite having a strong rookie campaign in 2011. Murray wants to continue to prove himself. 'The approach is the same,' Murray said. 'At the end of the day Iím still the fifth or sixth running back taken last year, third-round pick, looked over by many and Iím still working to get better. Iím not a veteran. I havenít been here for many years, so Iím trying to work hard every day and prove to myself that I belong here.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray just needs to stay healthy to prove himself. He's matured as a runner since his early days at Oklahoma. Murray is a solid inside/out RB with the speed to take it the distance. He's one of the best young RBs in the game today, and we like his value as an early second-round pick.

JAX - DE Aaron Kampman released

Source: Twitter

The Jacksonville Jaguars released DL Aaron Kampman Thursday, June 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kampman had his third knee surgery since 2009 back in December and needs to prove that he's healthy before another team signs him. We think the Broncos could show interest in Kampman where he would be reunited with Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio. If he signs with a new team he'll likely have to sign a "prove it" deal near the veteran minimum.
