CLE - Trent Richardson to see plenty of touches

Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson figures to see the majority of touches in the team's backfield this year, but head coach Pat Shurmur said there will be 'plenty of reps to go around' for the other running backs, namely RBs Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson. However, Hardesty could be battling for a roster spot and Jackson must prove he's finally healthy.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect Richardson to be a true workhorse star RB at the pro level. Richardson has a nice size/speed combination and runs angry. He'll run over defenders, but has subtle moves to evade in the open field. We like him as a low end RB1 with upside. His current ADP is the beginning of round two in standard 12-team leagues.

TB - HC Schiano raves about RB Martin

Source: Stephen Holder - Tampa Bay Times

Stephen Holder, from the Tampa Bay Times, reports Buccaneers new head coach Greg Schiano was raving about rookie RB Doug Martin's OTA performance. After missing a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury Martin was back to practicing at full speed. "He's only done it two days (Monday and Tuesday), but he's done some nice things," Schiano said. "You can see he has good vision. That's one of the things you can't teach. You can teach a lot of things, but for me to see daylight over here when I'm looking over there, that's a gift."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's "back to basics" football for Schiano and the Buccaneers this season. That means a run heavy offense featuring Martin. Fantasy owners take note as Martin has a skill set that reminds some of a young Ray Rice. We like Martin as a low end RB2 you can add in the early part of the fourth-round.

BAL - Negotiations with RB Rice taken precedence?

Source: Matt Vensel - Baltimore Sun

Matt Vensel, from the Baltimore Sun, believes the Ravens negotiations with RB Ray Rice have taken precedence over getting a new deal done with QB Joe Flacco. The team placed the Franchise Tag on Rice earlier this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rice is the heart and soul of the Ravens offense. It's not a surprise he would get the attention of the front office first. No deal is imminent right now but the two sides could accelerate negotiations as the July 16th deadline to sign Franchise Players to new contracts approaches. There's also a chance the team could sign both Rice and Flacco to new deals before the start of the regular season.

BAL - May not give QB Flacco contract extension this year

Source: Matt Vensel - Baltimore Sun

Matt Vensel, from the Baltimore Sun, reports the Ravens could allow starting quarterback Joe Flacco to play out the final year of his rookie contract during this season. They may place the Franchise Tag on him in the spring of next year.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco's agent wants his client to be paid like a top 5 QB, and according to reports the two sides are far apart in their negotiations. The young QB is set to make a ton of money if he can improve his completion percentage, cut down on turnovers, and lead the Ravens deep into the postseason in 2012.

JAX - Justin Blackmon argumentative with police

Source: The Florida Times-Union

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon was argumentative when he was pulled over by police and stated, 'I just flew in. I don't know why you are harassing me.' Blackmon was told four times by police to keep his hands out of his pockets.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According to the police he had a blood alcohol level of .24, which is three times the legal limit in Oklahoma. We're shocked he'd be "argumentative"...

WAS - No QB competition

Source: NFL.com

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said there will be no quarterback competition between himself and QB Kirk Cousins. 'With Kirk, it's fine. They brought me in for a reason,' Griffin said. 'We all know they brought me in to be the starter, and I plan to be the starter, and they brought him in for a reason as well. He knows that. And it's not a competition. Let's just go ahead and say that. But we're cool ... We work out together, we were roommates for rookie minicamp, so there's no conflict there.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Many people wrongly assumed the Redskins were hedging their bets when the selected Cousins in the fourth-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Griffin has superstar potential and could flourish in the Shanahan system. Cousins is more of a backup caliber QB who reminds many in the scouting community of the Seahawks Matt Flynn. The Redskins were wise to select Cousins so they could develop him and perhaps trade him at a later date. Make no mistake about it, Robert Griffin III is the real deal.

CLE - Could eventually trade QB McCoy?

Source: Nate Ulrich - Akron Beacon-Journal

Nate Ulrich, from the Akron Beacon-Journal, reports that he wouldn't be surprised if the Browns traded QB Colt McCoy. As the incumbent starter his presence could prove to be a distraction to first-round pick Brandon Weeden. If they deal McCoy Cleveland would still have veteran Seneca Wallace as a veteran backup.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy could make some sense for a team looking for an experienced backup QB. We could see the Packers having interest as their current backup Graham Harrell has performed poorly with preseason opportunities. McCoy is young (25) and only makes $540k this year.

DET - RB Jahvid Best not concerned about concussions

Source: MLive.com - Anwar Richardson

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best said he has not experienced concussion-like symptoms since last year and is ready for the upcoming season. 'I'm pretty sure if there was any real damage going on, I would have physical problems and mental problems,' Best said. 'I have no problems. I'm not worried.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Best may say this but one has to believe that deep down it's a real concern. He's the Lions most overall talented RB but it will be difficult to rely on him given his lengthy injury history.

BUF - Erik Pears has surgery

Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills OT Erik Pears (undisclosed) underwent minor surgery and will be out until training camp next month.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pears is the team's starting Right Tackle so they'll monitor him closely coming back from this surgery. Their O-Line depth is extremely shallow and they can't afford for Pears injury to get aggravated.

BUF - QB Tyler Thigpen to miss a week

Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills QB Tyler Thigpen (abdomen) will miss at least a week of practices due to an abdominal strain.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thigpen is competing with free agent addition Vince Young to be the primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. He should be able to return next week.

DEN - WR Orton presses on despite setbacks

Source: Carlos 'Big C' Holmes - Dayton Daily News

Carlos "Big C" Holmes, from the Dayton Daily News, reports Broncos WR Greg Orton hopes to secure a spot with the Denver Broncos and catch passes from their new quarterback, the legendary Peyton Manning. Orton has bounced around the NFL since 2009 and even played for the Spokane Shock of the Arena League in March 2010. Orton led the Shock in receptions (121), receiving yards (1,601) and touchdowns (35) only to be cut unexpectedly.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Our very own Cecil Lammey has been impressed with Orton so far at Broncos OTAs. He's a longshot to make the roster as the Broncos have a jam packed WR corps, but Orton is turning heads. In college he let too many passes into his body and was known as a one-route guy. However, he's revamped his skill set and is plucking passes out of the air, arms extended away from his body. Orton is also showing the ability to get separation on multiple routes.

NYJ - WR Santonio Holmes hasn't responded to workout invite

Source: ESPN.com

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes has not responded to an invite from QB Mark Sanchez to attend the 'Jets West' workout, according to a source. Holmes didn't attend the workouts last year either while he was an unrestricted free agent. QB Greg McElroy, WRs Jeremy Kerley, Patrick Turner and Scotty McKnight, RBs Shonn Green, Joe McKnight and John Conner and TEs Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland and Josh Baker will also attend. RB Terrance Ganaway will not be attending, and WR Stephen Hill and RB Bilal Powell have not yet committed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets are far from a polished team and they all need to work together if they want to get on the winning track this year.

KC - QB Brady Quinn leading candidate for backup job

Source: NFL.com

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said QB Brady Quinn currently has the edge over QB Ricky Stanzi for the team's backup quarterback job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This follows a report from last week that had Stanzi as maybe the #2 guy. Quinn has the experience, but Stanzi has the arm strength. Stanzi reminds many in the scouting community of former Browns QB Derek Anderson who competed with Quinn for the starting job in Cleveland a few years ago. We have to remember that Quinn looked really good in training camp last year for the Broncos, but as the preseason went on he began to play poorly. The Chiefs are a well built team but they have real concerns at the QB position.

DEN - John Fox defends passing game

Source: NFL.com

Despite receiving some criticism from the media regarding their lack of execution in the passing game during offseason workouts, Denver Broncos head coach John Fox is not worried about QB Peyton Manning. 'Physically, (Manning) looks the same to me as he's always looked,' Fox said. 'I think our passing game is way further along now than it was at this time a year ago.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Our very own Cecil Lammey has been in attendance to all the OTAs open to the media this offseason. There are no worries to the Broncos passing game according to Lammey. The team is working on their timing and chemistry so by the time training camp is here they should be on the same page. Peyton Manning has taken control of the huddle and is demanding a lot from himself and his teammates.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning dealing with timing issues

Source: The Associated Press

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning continues to work through some timing issues with his receivers during organized team activities. Manning made a few errant deep throws in practice Monday, June 4. 'I've never had to comment before on incompletions in practice, so this is new to me,' Manning said. 'I will say that when you are throwing deep balls, the idea is to take your shot. It's not the highest percentage play but we're going to keep throwing them. As they always say, in a game if you throw five deep balls and you complete one of them, that's actually a great thing. I mean, you're taking a shot and trying to send a message to the defense to hopefully back them off.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Manning has shown good timing with guys like Jacob Tamme and Brandon Stokley at Broncos OTAs, but that's because he played with both of them for years in Indy. We expect the Broncos passing game to look sharp by the time the regular season kicks off.

BAL - DE Terrell Suggs injured playing basketball?

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs (Achilles') continues to say he was injured during conditioning drills, but staff members are saying Suggs played in a three-day basketball tournament the weekend he was hurt. 'Well, I have other staff members that told me the same thing. The people who were scorekeeping, keeping the books, running the clock, they all said the same thing. He did it during the game. It looked like he stepped wrong. There was a collision, and he stepped wrong, possibly on someone's foot. It was either the Achilles' or the ankle because it was in that area. After that, he left and didn't play,' a staff member said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Either way, the Ravens have already said they won't withhold payments from Suggs.

DET - DT Ndamukong Suh lines up on right side

Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Detroit Lions DL Ndamukong Suh lined up on the right side of the defensive line during the team's practice Monday, June 4, and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham hinted Suh could be used in different ways this year. 'Warren (Sapp) will be happy; I'm going to move (Suh) all over the place now,' Cunningham said. 'As a matter of fact, I showed him some of Warren's tape. Warren should be really happy.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Suh is a force to be reckoned with no matter where he lines up on the field. He'll be harassing QBs early and often once again in 2012.

HOU - ILB Brian Cushing gets good news

Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the MRI on LB Brian Cushing's (knee) sore knee came back with positive results. 'He's fine. Everything is fine. We will err on the side of caution here. I don't even know if I'll practice him the rest of the week. He did work out, he just didn't go with the team,' Kubiak said. It appears as though Cushing won't need surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Texans here. We expect the team will monitor this knee closely and be cautious with their star LB.

NYG - DE Osi Umenyiora got deal done without agent

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants DL Osi Umenyiora had to temporarily fire his agent to get a restructured deal completed, and sign what that agent had told him was 'a substandard deal.' However, he said it was worth it to stop a contract squabble from hovering over his head. Umenyiora denied that he was asked by the team to fire his agent in order to get the deal done. Instead, he said Tony Agnone - whom Umenyiora said he will eventually rehire - stepped out of the way because 'he felt like I was worth more than that.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's something Agnone won't put on his business card.

BAL - DE Terrell Suggs looks to be back sooner rather than later

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Mike Preston

Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs (Achilles') said Monday, June 4, that he expects to be back no later than the end of November.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was what Suggs has said all along. Just one month removed from surgery to repair a partially torn right Achilles' his recovery seems to be ahead of schedule. Suggs foot has already been placed in a boot, but the team will be cautious and will monitor this situation carefully.

BUF - OLB Shawne Merriman looking good

Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills LB Shawne Merriman is impressing head coach Chan Gailey during the team's offseason training activities. 'He looks quick to me. He's coming off the edge with that same speed and quickness that I remember,' Gailey said. 'The best thing about it is that he says he feels good. It's not one of those where he's feeling something or trying to hide something.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Merriman has been slowed by several injuries in recent years, so the Bills are only hoping he can stay healthy. He could work nicely as a part time pass rusher if he can stay on the field this year.
