DEN - Manning throws deep, arm looks good
Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com
Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for 102.3 ESPN Denver and senior writer for Footballguys.com, reports Peyton Manning threw several deep passes in OTAs today. His passes over 25+ yards looked good and should quiet any arm strength questions.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like Manning as a QB1 you can get in the fifth-round of your fantasy drafts. The Broncos won't be as pass happy as some think, but Manning should be a consistent fantasy starter from week to week. This news about his arm strength is very interesting and a good sign that he'll look like the Manning we're used to in 2012.
TEN - WR Kenny Britt could sit out some preseason games
Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said WR Kenny Britt (knee) is expected to be limited at the start of training camp and could sit out the first two or three preseason games to protect his knee.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
No surprise here. Britt's second procedure on his knee was a sign it wasn't healing as well as originally thought. The team will limit him in training camp as they believe he can be back close to full strength at the start of the regular season.
JAX - Justin Blackmon pleads not guilty
Source: The Florida Times-Union - Vito Stellino
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has pleaded not guilty in his misdemeanor aggravated driving under the influence case. He is scheduled to have a hearing July 24. Blackmon is not expected to receive any jail time in this case.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is Blackmon's second DUI in 20 months and we expect the league to examine his case under their Code of Conduct policy. It wouldn't surprise us to see Blackmon get a one or two game suspension because of this latest infraction.
DET - Mikel Leshoure injury update
Source: The Detroit News - Chris McCosky
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (Achilles', ankle) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 4, because of a sore right ankle.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
LeShoure is attempting to come back from an Achilles' injury too. Even if he's healthy the league may decide to suspend him because he was arrested twice earlier this offseason for marijuana possession.
ATL - WR Roddy White expects to see decrease in production
Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White said he expects his production to go down this offseason because offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants the other receivers to be more involved in the offense. 'I know that sounds crazy, but we've got other guys out there that can play,' White said. '[WR Julio Jones] is going to be a big part of the offense this year. [WR Harry Douglas] is going to do wonders in the slot. We have to maximize our talent and get the ball in everyone's hands.' White indicated the team may use some five-receiver sets this season.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners need to take note here. White is being drafted like a WR1, but may end up producing more like a high end WR2. His current ADP is in the early third round as the sixth WR off the board, but that may fall slightly with this news. White's stats may look more like they did in 2008 (when he was WR14) than they did in 2011 (when he was WR8).
JAX - Justin Blackmon may get smaller bonus
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to give first-round draft choice WR Justin Blackmon a smaller and deferred signing bonus because of his recent arrest for aggravated driving under the influence arrest.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The language of the NFL is money. It wouldn't surprise us to see this latest DUI negatively impact the type of guaranteed money the young WR gets.
BAL - Not close to deal with QB Joe Flacco
Source: Carroll County Times - Aaron Wilson
The Baltimore Ravens are not close to a contract extension with QB Joe Flacco.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Flacco wants to be paid like a top 5 QB in the NFL but the Ravens aren't willing to give him that kind of money. Despite his contract situation Flacco has not missed any OTAs and we feel a compromise could come sometime later in training camp.
NFL - Arbitrator says players in bounty case can be suspended
Source: The Associated Press
Arbitrator Stephen Burbank has ruled that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to suspend New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vilma and DE Will Smith and Cleveland Browns LB Scott Fujita for their involvement in the Saints' bounty program. Burbank said he would like to receive more information about Green Bay Packers DE Anthony Hargrove's participation in the program and retained temporary jurisdiction on his role.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
No surprise the NFLPA will appeal Burbank's decision. This fight isn't over yet, and it may be awhile until the legal system has run it's course.
NYJ - Tim Tebow to attend passing camp
Source: WEEI.com - Jon Lemons
New York Jets QB Tim Tebow said he will attend QB Mark Sanchez's 'Jets West' passing camp in a few weeks after Sanchez invited Tebow to attend. WR Santonio Holmes didn't invite Tebow for a few days of informal workouts with Sanchez a few months ago.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good move for Tebow here as he adjusts to his new teammates. Tebow is no finished product as a passer and needs as much time as he possibly can get throwing to moving targets. We see Tebow beginning the year as a backup and Wildcat QB. However, if Sanchez struggles during the year then he could be moved into the starting lineup.
GB - QB Aaron Rodgers wants to stick around
Source: NFL.com - Brian McIntyre
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he wants to play for the team for the rest of his career. He currently has three years and $29.25 million left on his five-year, $63.5 million extension. 'I think they're an organization who is going to do what's best for the organization,' Rodgers said of future contract talks with the Packers. 'Obviously my representation, just like any representation, is trying to get the most money possible at times. I don't see it being an issue. I want to be a Packer for life and I don't see myself going anywhere else.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Packers fans are over the moon with this news. Rodgers is a true franchise QB and his presence makes the Packers Super Bowl contenders each year. We have a feeling the two sides will be able to work out a long-term agreement fairly easily.
DEN - Reps with old teammates carrying over
Source: Cecil Lammey - ESPN Denver, Footballguys.com
Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for 102.3 ESPN Denver and senior writer for Footballguys.com, reports Peyton Manning feels the reps he had with former Colts teammates (WR Brandon Stokley, TE Jacob Tamme) are carrying over to the Broncos. "Those [reps] don't really go away. I believe those do carry over so that's why the more reps I get with Eric (Decker), D.T. (Demaryius Thomas), and Joel (Dreesen) the better off we'll be." Manning said after practice.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tamme could certainly be a big part of the Broncos passing game this year. We don't think the Broncos will be a pass happy team, but Manning could average around 32 passing attempts per game. Tamme may catch upwards of 65 passes in 2012. We feel Stokley will only play in four and five WR sets if he makes the team.
KC - Jonathan Baldwin returns to practice
Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher
Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin (migraines) participated in organized team activities Monday, June 4, after sitting out Friday, June 1, with migraines.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good sign for the young WR here. Several players have dealt with and played with/through migraine headaches before. The team will monitor his diet and perhaps get him on some medication to deal with this ailment.
NYG - TE Martellus Bennett says he has not gotten fat
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Kieran Darcy
New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring) said he added muscle this offseason which added weight and that he has not gotten fat during the offseason. 'Just put on a lot of muscle this summer,' Bennett said. 'Been working out since January. Faster, stronger, jump higher, run longer, great condition -- every conditioning test we had, I aced.' Bennett said he pulled his hamstring because he overworked himself. He hopes to participate in the team's upcoming minicamp.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bennett may not be fat, but perhaps his frame can't handle the extra weight that he put on. The team will monitor his hamstring as he recovers from this injury. Bennett could be the Giants lead TE as Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum are both rehabbing knee injuries they sustained in the Super Bowl.
DET - RB Jahvid Best may try different helmets
Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman
Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) said he may try out some new helmets this season because of his past history with concussions. He said he is feeling great and can't wait to get back on the field.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It would be wise for Best to try as many different helmets as he can. He's the Lions most talented all around RB but his concussion problems have kept him from playing up to his potential.
HOU - RB Justin Forsett to compete for No. 3 RB job
Source: HoustonTexans.com - Nick Scurfield
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RB Justin Forsett will compete for the No. 3 running back job during training camp. Kubiak also thinks Forsett can help out on special teams.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We expect Forsett to beat out undrafted rookie Davin Meggett for the team's RB3 job. Forsett showed flashes in Seattle but didn't fit Pete Carroll's power running style. He is a perfect fit for the zone blocking scheme in Houston. Deep dynasty league owners should grab Forsett for a low price as a "lottery ticket" type of RB.
Source: KFFL.com
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday, June 4, that they signed first-round pick RB Doug Martin to a five-year deal. Financial terms weren't given.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Martin was arguably the most versatile RB in the 2012 NFL Draft. He's built low to the ground, runs with good balance, and is difficult to arm tackle. Martin is also a natural receiver out of the backfield and can help as a return man. He reminds many in the scouting community of a little slower version of Ray Rice. Greg Schiano is going "back to basics" with the Bucs this year and will use Martin as their feature back in a run heavy offense.
HOU - ILB Brian Cushing undergoes MRI
Source: HoustonTexans.com
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said LB Brian Cushing (knee) underwent an MRI on his knee Monday, June 4, as a precaution.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cushing was not participating in OTAs because of this sore knee. We think he could miss more practices this week. Expect the team to monitor his health closely.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and we'll see you tomorrow with the update. Thanks for letting us be a part of your Fantasy Football Season.
Peace, J
