DET - Nick Fairley could face suspension

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley could face a suspension from the NFL for his two arrests this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fairley was recently added to the league's substance abuse program and may be facing a multi-game suspension. The Lions won't release Fairley because of his salary and his potential. Fairley is certainly walking a fine line and needs to start playing up to his potential in 2012.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden looking good during OTAs

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden has looked strong and fast during organized team activities this offseason. He is completely healed from the foot injury that hampered him last season. McFadden has lined up at wide receiver at times during the workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden is one of the best and most talented RBs in the league when healthy. The problem has been staying healthy for the star player as he's never played a full 16 games in a season. He could perform like a top 5 fantasy RB if he were to make it through an entire season unscathed.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles says he hasn't lost speed

Source: Twitter

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said via Twitter he remains the fastest player on the team despite having anterior cruciate ligament surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles will be 12 months removed from his knee injury at the start of the regular season. We fully expect him to look like the same player that took the league by storm in 2010. However, his situation is different this year because of the arrival of Peyton Hillis. The Chiefs will have a true RBBC and both RBs value will vary from week to week.

NE - Shane Vereen working as No. 1 RB

Source: Boston Herald

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen has been working as the No. 1 running back in offseason practices open to the media.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Interesting to note that it's Vereen and not Ridley working as the first back. His rookie year was thrown off track by injuries but Vereen has the most balanced skill set of any runner in New England. He's a talented player and is trying to carve out a role in the Patriots RBBC.

CHI - RB Michael Bush working with starters

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush has been working with the first-team offense during organized team activities because franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte has not been present.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte is unhappy with his current contract situation and a holdout may last through training camp. The Bears have concerns with Forte's knees and are not willing to pay him the type of money he wants. Bush was picked up in free agency and could be in line to start if Forte misses significant time. Bush's current ADP has him being selected at the beginning of the 8th round.

SEA - No QB in lead for starting job

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn has looked best during organized team activities but none of the three quarterbacks competing for the starting job have an advantage at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what Pete Carroll has said, but right now it sounds like Flynn is looking better than anyone else. We think Flynn wins the job in training camp, and that could jeopardize Tarvaris Jackon's roster spot. If Flynn struggles this year the team could plug in rookie Russell Wilson to get him some experience.

CHI - Not worried about WR Brandon Marshall's past

Source: SI.com - Peter King

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said he is not concerned about WR Brandon Marshall's pervious off-field issues and feels Marshall will be a good fit. 'People have the capacity to change,' Emery said. 'He's an intelligent guy, and he's accepted his faults, and he's working toward improving them. I thought about it a lot. Isn't that what we'd want out of our children? They might stumble, but when they do, they seriously try to improve their lives. We felt if there was a place Brandon would fit, it was here.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reuniting with Jay Cutler in Chicago might be the best thing for Marshall. In two years (2008, 2009) the duo combined for 206 receptions, 2,590 yards and 13 TDs. We expect Marshall to be Cutler's favorite target again in 2012 and he could approach 100 receptions for the season again. Marshall could be a top 10 fantasy WR this season.

MIA - RB Reggie Bush unsure of new scheme

Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush said he is unsure if the team's up-tempo practices can translate to offensive success during the season. Bush said the team has been running a lot of plays and using a lot of no-huddle during offseason workouts. 'That's a lot of plays. I was just asking our running back coach (Jeff Nixon), 'Is this going to be the temp in the game?" Bush said. 'We're pretty fast right now, but usually we practice faster than we should play. I don't know, we'll see. Hopefully the tempo will go down a little bit and save some guys because that's a lot of plays in one game.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mike Sherman's offense at Texas A&M was high powered with QB Ryan Tannehill leading the way. Now he's got Tannehill with the Dolphins and the rookie will compete with Matt Moore and David Garrard for the starting job. When Sherman was head coach of the Packers (2000-2005) they consistently ranked in the top 12 for offensive production.

CLE - Believe Trent Richardson resembles Adrian Peterson

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Dan Pompei

The name of Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson came up in the Cleveland Browns offices when they were evaluating RB Trent Richardson. The Browns acknowledge Peterson is a little faster, but they think Richardson is better in pass protection, and they believe he is one of the best backs to enter the league in quite awhile. The Browns love Richardson's versatility and plan on getting a lot of out of him immediately.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was a common opinion in the scouting community. Like Peterson, Richardson runs angry and is fast for a big back. Fantasy owners are expecting a lot from the rookie this year as his ADP is 2.01 and could rise before the start of the regular season.

SD - RB Ryan Mathews preparing for bigger role

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews said he has been working hard this offseason in order to take his game to another level. Mathews will be assuming a bigger workload in 2012. 'I personally think he's ready to take that next step,' head coach Norv Turner said. 'That means, to me, the production goes way up, and he's more of the guy that is on the field most of the time. I think he's grown a lot in terms of understanding his responsibility when the ball is in his hand.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mathews won't have to split as many carries this year as Mike Tolbert moved on in free agency to the Panthers. He finished last year as the 7th best RB in fantasy football and his current ADP has him drafted at 1.07. Durability is the biggest concern for the young RB. If he can stay healthy then he could crack the top 5 in fantasy football.

HOU - RB Derrick Ward could return

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

The Houston Texans may consider re-signing free-agent RB Derrick Ward this offseason if he is willing to accept the veteran minimum.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ward is a good fit for the Texans zone blocking system. He would provide veteran depth behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate. The Texans also recently worked out free agent Justin Forsett who could be an option as well.

CLE - Coach names top two WRs right now

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said WRs Greg Little and Mohamed Massaquoi are the team's top two wide receivers at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Little has great run after the catch ability but had trouble with concentration as a rookie in 2011. Massaquoi does not provide big play ability and could be passed on the depth chart by Carlton Mitchell. Jordan Norwood is likely to play as the team's starting slot WR.

SD - Plan to keep only two QBs

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

The San Diego Chargers plan to have only QBs Philip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst on the final roster this season but may consider keeping three if QB Jarrett Lee does well during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is normal for the Chargers as they've gone with only two QBs on the roster the last couple of years. Lee could stick around on the team's practice squad as a developmental player.

KC - Allen Bailey could have bigger role

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Kansas City Chiefs DE Allen Bailey is expected to have a bigger role in the defense this season because he has the ability to play left and right defensive end and could be part of a rotation at defensive end.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bailey will come in on passing downs to help with their pass rush. If he plays well this year in a limited role he could be in line for a starting job in 2013.

TEN - OC looking to expand playbook

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer is planning to expand the team's playbook this upcoming season. 'You couldn't do more last year because you only had so many teaching opportunities,' Palmer said. 'Now you have more teaching opportunities and more time with the players and that gives you a chance. We've added a couple of plays that we didn't think we could teach last year. We're making some tweaks here and there based on trends in the league and things that are new and trying to adapt it to our players. So far, so good.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans are looking for a bounce back year from RB Chris Johnson. If Johnson starts playing up to his potential again then the Titans offense could certainly be formidable.

OAK - Terrelle Pryor working on footwork

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vittorio Tafur

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor said he continues to work on his footwork in hopes of becoming a better quarterback. 'I think the biggest thing is to keep working on my feet and getting my footwork done because sometimes it's not consistent,' Pryor said. 'When it's consistent, I make perfect throws. When it's not, sometimes it's not the best drive. So I just have to keep working on that and getting better at it.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Footwork is key for a young QB. Having better footwork when dropping back will make for better timing with receivers. Properly stepping into throws will help improve accuracy. Pryor is an interesting deep dynasty prospect to keep an eye on.

OAK - Terrelle Pryor reaches out to QB Rich Gannon

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vittorio Tafur

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor said he called former NFL QB Rich Gannon and hopes to work out with him and further pick his brain. 'I called him and he gave me some wisdom on the game of football,' Pryor said. Gannon said he would like to get together with Pryor, but they haven't been able to schedule anything yet.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like this move for the second-year QB. Gannon should be able to give Pryor a lot of advice on how to maximize his potential. This news, plus the news about how he looks at OTAs has his dynasty stock slightly rising.

NO - Chris Ivory restructures deal

Source: NFL.com

The New Orleans Saints have restructured the final year of RB Chris Ivory's contract. The team has tacked on a $72,900 signing bonus to the final year of the deal, making up for the income he lost while on the Physically Unable to Perform list last season. No additional years were added to the contract, and Ivory is still scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A nice good faith move by the Saints here. Ivory is going undrafted in most standard 12-team leagues but could see his fantasy value quickly rise. He begins the year as the 4th RB on the depth chart but is behind injury prone guys like Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram. Ivory has a size/speed combination to be a RB2/flex play if he gets an opportunity.

CHI - New offense has potential to be explosive

Source: Chicago Tribune - Dan Pompei

The Chicago Bears offense under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice could have plenty of big-play potential. When Tice was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, their offense ranked in the top four in the league in yards three times in Tice's four years.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bears QB Jay Cutler has to be grinning from ear to ear. He's back with his favorite target from the Broncos as the Bears reunited him with WR Brandon Marshall. They also added star rookie Alshon Jeffery in the second-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Chicago should have a very potent passing game this year.

TB - Greg Schiano another Tom Coughlin?

Source: NFL.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan has high praise for head coach Greg Schiano, comparing him to New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin. Sullivan worked with Coughlin for eight seasons. 'Coach Schiano is in many ways similar to (Tom) Coughlin, from the standpoint of very, very organized and detailed and things like discipline and structure and organization being at a premium,' Sullivan said. 'I think he's very bright. And I think he's someone that has brought a concept of family.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schiano is a strong coach with an "old school" mentality. We'll see if he can win a couple of Super Bowls like Coughlin before we make the comparison. Schiano's presence is exactly what the Bucs need to turn things around in Tampa.

CIN - A.J. Green wants to become a leader

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green has established himself as one of the team leaders during offseason workouts. During position drills, Green has been the first in line and has also been mentoring some of the younger guys on routes and other things with the offense. 'I just want to be that leader that I know I can,' Green said. 'I really don't lead by being vocal, I lead by example. I always want to be the first one in a drill and doing everything to the best of my ability. Some of the young guys can actually come along and watch what I do. Work the same, and we work together and build this.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green has had superstar potential since the first day he was with the Bengals. It's great to see a young player taking his role as a leader seriously. He finished last year as the 14th best WR in fantasy football and could crack the top 10 this season.

NE - RB Joseph Addai may not make final roster

Source: Boston Herald

New England Patriots RB Joseph Addai is not guaranteed of earning a spot on the team's final roster; however, with a young backfield, it appears likely Addai will make the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots have a jam packed backfield, but Addai gives them a veteran presence they'll be missing since BenJarvus Green-Ellis moved on to the Bengals in free agency. Addai could work as a third-down back in a similar way to what Kevin Faulk used to do for New England.

SEA - Not yet committing to a starting QB

Source: NFL.com

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll continues to sound like he is not ready to hand QB Matt Flynn the team's starting quarterback job. Carroll continues to stress competition at the position. 'Hopefully we'll figure this thing out as we go.' Carroll said. 'There's no choice we have other than to give these guys reps and have them show us where they're coming from. We see a lot of stuff from T-Jack coming back. It's interesting to see Matt as he fits together with this thing. He's come along very quickly and then also Russell is exciting and we got to see where he fits in, too. He's just such a tremendous athlete. So we're excited about this.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is no timetable for the Seahawks to name a starter at this time. Matt Flynn has looked the most comfortable in recent OTAs but he'll have to continue to outshine veteran Tarvaris Jackson and rookie Russell Wilson. We expect Flynn to win the starting job in camp, but if he falters the team could try to see what they have in Wilson later in the year.

NYJ - Rex Ryan wasn't fan of Tony Sparano initially

Source: NFL.com

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he used to hate offensive coordinator Tony Sparano when he was head coach of the Miami Dolphins; however, Ryan is glad they are on the same team now. 'After he became available,' Ryan said, 'I'm like, Oh, hell, yeah that's my guy."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan said the same thing at the Scouting Combine earlier this year. He'd better like Sparano as the new offensive coordinator could help save his job. Ryan's not quite yet on the hot seat, but his bravado has worn thin and he needs to back it up with a Super Bowl run.

PIT - S Troy Polamalu thinks about end of career

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu acknowledged that he thinks about the end of his career all the time. 'People have asked me how many years do you think you can play?,' Polamalu said. 'My reaction is always, when you live day to day, it's hard to talk years. It's always been my mantra in life, whether it was my first year as a rookie or year 10, I just live day to day.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Polamalu plays with a wreckless abandon and seems to have little regard for his own body. This mentality has helped him make phenomenal plays, but also gets him beat up in the process. Injuries have slowed him down in recent years, but we don't expect Polamalu to change the way he plays.

DET - DT Ndamukong Suh wants to be a leader

Source: Detroit Free Press - Carlos Monarrez

Detroit Lions DL Ndamukong Suh is eager to emerge as a team leader entering his third pro season. 'If I see a guy that needs some help and just might need a word here or (there) just to understand a little bit better,' Suh explained. 'As Coach uses some of us as starters or guys that have been here a couple years that are still young that say look at what he's doing and mimic that or whatever. Then I'll say, 'Yeah, this is how I got to this position, this is how I got to my position to get to where Coach likes it."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions need someone to rise as a leader in that locker room. They've been in the headlines this offseason for all the wrong reasons. Lions players have been arrested so many times in 2012 that even the Bengals think they're out of control.

ARI - Two DTs in good shape

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Arizona Cardinals DTs Dan Williams and Nick Eason are in better shape than they were last offseason. Williams has been working with strength and conditioning coach John Lett the past six weeks. Eason has lost around 40 pounds this offseason and currently weighs around 280 pounds.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Cardinals here. They ranked 21st in the league last year in rush yards allowed. Having Williams and Eason in better shape could help them anchor better against the run.

- ILB James Farrior may retire

Source: CBSSports.com

The agent for free-agent LB James Farrior (Steelers), Ralph Cindrich, said Farrior hasn't fully decided if he'll retire; however, they have talked with the Pittsburgh Steelers about a potential news conference.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Farrior originally wanted to keep playing after he was released by the Steelers earlier this year but he hasn't drawn much interest on the open market. He's not the same player he used to be and is likely to call it a career.

PIT - Steve McClendon could start

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers DL Steve McClendon could start at nose tackle in Week 1 with DL Casey Hampton (knee) likely to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. 'Everybody wants to discard McLendon. Let me tell you this, hold your opinion until the season is over,' defensive line coach John Mitchell said. 'I'm just saying keep your opinion until after the season, (then) you make the decision.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McClendon has the experience but we like the talent of fourth-round pick Alameda Ta'Amu better. The veteran could begin the season as the starter while Hampton is out, but Ta'Amu could take over if Hampton is out longer than expected.
