NE - WR Wes Welker unlikely to miss any games

Source: CSNNE.com - Tom E. Curran

New England Patriots franchise free-agent WR Wes Welker indicated he likely will not sit out any regular season games if he does not receive a long-term contract because he is scheduled to make $9.5 million under the franchise tag.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The chances of Welker missing any time in the regular season due to this contract squabble is zero. He'll sign his Franchise Tender if a new long-term deal can't be finalized before training camp.

JAX - RB Maurice Jones-Drew not expected at OTAs

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not be in town when the team starts organized training activities Tuesday, May 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones-Drew is not happy with his contract that is set to pay him $4.45 million this season. He also skipped last month's voluntary workouts as well.

WAS - RB Tim Hightower should be No. 1 RB

Source: CBSSports.com

Washington Redskins RB Tim Hightower (knee) should enter training camp as the No. 1 running back, provided his left knee has recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Hightower provides the most all-around game of all the team's backs because of his pass-protection skills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hightower must beat out Roy Helu if he wants to be the team's starter. We think Helu is more talented, but Hightower is better in pass protection. Regardless of who is named the starter this is going to be a RBBC.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning will be a work in progress

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said it will be a work in progress adjusting a scheme to fit the talents of QB Peyton Manning. 'This is going to be a work in progress for everybody,' McCoy said. 'Coaches, players, everybody within the organization, with how we're going to do things, the types of things we're going to change, but there are plenty of things that we've done in the past here that we want to give Peyton the opportunity to see. He is very flexible. He wants some new ideas and to run some new things. We've spent some time in the last couple of weeks explaining the things as an offensive staff we really like and things we can help him with.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Making the move from Tim Tebow to Peyton Manning will be a huge leap for the Broncos. Fortunately for them Mike McCoy's basically a chameleon and can change his system to fit the talent as evidenced by the move from Kyle Orton to Tebow last year. If Manning is healthy we believe the Broncos are a favorite to represent the AFC West in the playoffs.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden back to full strength

Source: NFL.com

Oakland Raiders running backs coach Kelly Skipper said the way RB Darren McFadden (foot) has been working out 'you would never know he got hurt.' McFadden suffered a Lisfranc injury in Week 7 last season and never returned, but he's already back to full speed in workouts. 'The thing about Darren is he didn't have any major surgeries, so he's able to come back here healthy and he's playing at a high level right now and it's offseason,' Skipper said. 'He's making cuts at full speed, everything. There's no problem with that.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden is one of the best RBs in the league if he can stay healthy. If McFadden is hurt we expect Mike Goodson to be the lead back with Taiwan Jones playing a backup role. FB Marcel Reece may be used a little bit more as a runner and receiver out of the backfield to help keep McFadden fresh.

TEN - WR Kenny Britt may need another procedure

Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak acknowledged Sunday, May 13, that WR Kenny Britt (knee) might require a second procedure on his knee. 'I think it always is (possible),' Munchak said. 'I don't know if he will at some point, but I think that's something that's common with that injury ... The good thing is that even if you do have it, it's not a huge setback. It's not something that sets you way back. But that is obviously part of the process, or could be, if that arises down the road.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for Britt here. He started off last season as one of the best fantasy WRs in the league before injuring his knee in week 3 against the Broncos. The team added WR Kendall Wright in the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Wright would start opposite Nate Washington if Britt misses any time because of this knee injury.

SEA - Russell Wilson might be in mix for starting QB job

Source: The Seattle Times - Danny O'Neil

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Sunday, May 13, that rookie QB Russell Wilson will be part of the competition to become the team's starting quarterback this fall. 'He's showed us enough,' Carroll said. 'He's in the competition. He did an excellent job of demonstrating that he prepared for this.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks have no timetable to name a starting QB, and this battle could last well into training camp. Wilson was impressive in college because of his athleticism, arm strength, and downfield accuracy. He'll compete with free agent addition Matt Flynn and incumbent Tarvaris Jackson.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler has concerns about OL

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Sean Jensen

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he is going to take a wait-and-see approach before being comfortable with the offensive line in the new offense this season. 'You know, the offensive line is definitely going to be a concern and seeing where those guys are going to fit in and seeing what five we go with. If [OT Gabe Carimi] comes back, if [OT J'Marcus Webb] pans out. Where are we going to put [OG Chris Williams]? There are some question marks there. Until we really get that resolved, and get our front five settled in, we've got some work to do on offense,' Cutler said. Cutler thinks the new offense will help some but they will still need to protect him on passing plays.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cutler is right on the money here. The Bears have one of the worst O-Lines in the entire league. They've added WR weapons like Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery this offseason but it won't matter much if Cutler doesn't get better protection. Expect OC Jeremy Bates to use plenty of bootleg plays to get Cutler away from pressure.

JAX - Coach says Blaine Gabbert starter

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said QB Blaine Gabbert is the team's starting quarterback and there will not be any competition for the job during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The team added more weapons in the passing game around Gabbert this offseason. First-round pick Justin Blackmon should have the biggest impact, and has the skill set that reminds many in the scouting community of a young Anquan Boldin. Free agent addition Laurent Robinson should also help Gabbert play with more confidence in 2012.

STL - Three WRs appear to be locks

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

St. Louis Rams WRs Brian Quick, Chris Givens and Danny Amendola appear to be the only receivers that are locks to make the final roster if the team decides to keep six receivers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This means the final three spots will come down to a battle between Steve Smith, Danario Alexander, Brandon Gibson, Greg Salas, and Austin Pettis.

PHI - Chris Polk could be No. 2 RB

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk could win the No. 2 running back job during training camp if he is able to stay healthy.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Polk is talented but chronic shoulder problems caused him to go undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft. He's a big back with moves to make defenders miss. Polk is also a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. He'll compete with second-year RB Dion Lewis, and 2012 seventh-round pick Bryce Brown.

- QB Donovan McNabb open to signing with any team

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said he does not have a list of teams he would be interested in signing with. Rather, he will sign with any team interested at this point. 'I have a list,' McNabb said. 'A full list, of 32.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNabb may be open to signing anywhere, but finding a team willing to add him to the roster may be difficult.

CIN - Trying to work WR Brandon Tate into offense

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

The Cincinnati Bengals are trying to work WR Brandon Tate into the offense more this season. Tate was used mostly on special teams last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate has elite athleticism but injuries and inconsistencies have prevented him from playing up to his potential. It will be difficult for him to find much playing time with the Bengals as he's the 5th or 6th guy on the depth chart.

CIN - Believe Mohamed Sanu can help right away

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said the team believes WR Mohamed Sanu can make an immediate impact on offense this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanu is competing with Marvin Jones and Armon Binns to be the team's No.2 WR opposite A.J. Green. In our eyes Sanu is the most talented of the group competing and reminds many in the scouting community of former Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

CLE - Brandon Weeden ready to compete for starting job

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden said he is ready to compete with QBs Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the starting quarterback job after taking part in his first rookie minicamp. 'Absolutely, I think we're just going to compete,' Weeden said. 'Nothing will change. I know Colt (is) a good guy. I know Seneca is a good guy. I met Seneca, so I'm looking forward to just being part of the other quarterbacks.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have stated Weeden isn't going to be handed the starting job, but he must win the job in training camp. The soon to be 29-year old rookie doesn't have time to sit and develop, so he should likely be the week 1 starter for the Browns.

DAL - TE Jason Witten sees window closing

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Rainer Sabin

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he understands that his career is on the downward slope, and that the team's championship window could be closing. 'You try not to think about the window,' Witten said. 'But obviously, we're realists. We understand where it's at. I feel great and we're playing great.' As the team's core ages, Witten acknowledged the franchise's mindset has focused squarely on returning to relevance this season. 'It's about now,' Witten said. 'I think that's how this whole organization thinks, from owner to head coach to veteran players to rookie players. That's the way this league works.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is certainly a make or break year for the Cowboys. They have a strong offense and now have made additions to strengthen the defensive side of the ball. Adding CBs Morris Claiborne through the draft and Brandon Carr through free agency should help the team enormously.

CHI - Will take advantage of QB Jay Cutler's athleticism

Source: Chicago Tribune - Dan Pompei

Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates said Sunday, May 13, that one of the priorities in the team's offense this season will be to take advantage of QB Jay Cutler's gifts as an athlete and make defenses account for the way Cutler can move. 'In my opinion, Jay is very athletic,' Bates said. 'He was a great shortstop in high school. If you go back and watch the Vanderbilt tape, he was running all around the field making plays. We're going to use his feet. He's athletic, he can throw on the run, he can see down the field on the run. We're going to try to find everybody's strengths and use them to our advantage.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bates worked with Cutler before when the two were in Denver. We should see a lot more bootlegs to get Cutler away from the rush to give him clear passing lanes. The Bears O-Line isn't very good so moving Cutler around is the team's best option.

OAK - Believe Terrelle Pryor can be a good QB

Source: CSNBayArea.com

Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo said he believes QB Terrelle Pryor can be a good NFL quarterback in time. 'He's going to give himself a chance to be a good player in this league, because of his work ethic,' DeFilippo said. 'He's a gym rat here in this building. He loves being here, loves talking football, loves being around, playing the game. He's getting better every day.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nice of DeFilippo to show confidence in the young QB, but his future in the NFL is cloudy. We'll see what Pryor looks like as a pro QB this preseason. He's big, has a strong arm, and is extremely athletic but needs to work on his mechanics and decision making. Pryor will be the third-string QB this year behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.

NYJ - Want QB Mark Sanchez to make better decisions

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh said QB Mark Sanchez must make better decisions if he is to cut down on costly interceptions in 2012. 'There were turnovers that were not his fault that were credited to him,' Cavanaugh said of the quarterback. 'But there were enough that, playing that position, he needs to cut some of those down. Most of them came from just poor decision-making.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez is going to be on a short leash this year. If he struggles during the early part of the season we could see backup Tim Tebow inserted as the starter. The Jets schedule is brutal at the beginning of the season. After their week nine bye it gets a little easier.

MIA - QB David Garrard may not make final roster

Source: Palm Beach Post - Ben Volin

The Miami Dolphins may release QB David Garrard before the start of the regular season if QB Ryan Tannehill shows if he is ready to play. Garrard is guaranteed $2.25 million if he is on the roster Week 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Tannehill's transition to the pro game will be assisted by the fact his college coach Mike Sherman is the Dolphins new Offensive Coordinator.

OAK - Two players waived

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Paul Gutierrez

The Oakland Raiders have waived QB Rhett Bomar and TE Andre Hardy.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bomar has bounced around the league during his short pro career. He may get a training camp invite to be a camp arm but is a longshot to be on any final roster.

CHI - Chris Williams likely moving back to OT

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

The Chicago Bears likely will be moving to OG Chris Williams to offensive tackle this season after using him at offensive guard last season. Williams has seen time at guard and tackle during offseason workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears O-Line is one of the worst units in the league. Williams was drafted to play Tackle, and protected Jay Cutler's backside in college at Vanderbilt. He'll compete with J'Marcus Webb to be the team's starting Left Tackle in 2012.

CLE - Not interested in WR Plaxico Burress at this point

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said the team has not considered signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burress is having difficulty finding any team interested in his services at this time. The Browns are desperate for WR help and they don't want the big veteran WR on their team. Burress may have to wait until injuries hit the WR position during training camp before he gets a job.

PHI - TE Brent Celek should be fine for camp

Source: KFFL.com

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Monday, May 14, that TE Brent Celek (hernia, hip) will be limited in the team's minicamp, but he should be fine for training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team will be cautious with Celek in training camp so they don't aggravate his injuries. This will open the door for a nice dynasty sleeper like Clay Harbor to show what he can do. Celek may not be at 100% in camp and is a risky fantasy pick until we see if he's back to full strength.

CIN - Rookie TE Charles stands out in minicamp

Source: Carlos "Big C" Holmes - Dayton Daily News

Carlos "Big C" Holmes, from the Dayton Daily News, reports rookie TE Orson Charles looked good in the team's recent minicamp. Charles showed good receiving skills and the ability to get open deep. He also did a nice job running after the catch as well as blocking.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles is a good move TE who can attack the deep middle seam of the defense. He's not much of a blocker but is a good receiver and is elusive after the catch. He'll back up TE Jermaine Gresham and gives QB Andy Dalton yet another weapon in the passing game.

DEN - CB Drayton Florence expected to see a lot of playing time

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Denver Broncos CB Drayton Florence is expected to see a lot of playing time this season either as an outside cornerback or a slot cornerback. Florence likely will be used against three- and four-receiver sets this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nickel CBs are essentially starters in today's pass happy NFL. Florence is bigger than last year's nickel CB Chris Harris and has a more physical element to his game. Physical CBs are especially important when teams go up against athletic move TEs like the Patriots Aaron Hernandez.

CHI - DE Israel Idonije could lose starting job

Source: ProFootballWeekly.com

Chicago Bears DE Israel Idonije could lose his starting defensive end job if the team wants to start DE Shea McClellin. Idonije and McClellin could compete for the job during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McClellin will initially begin his pro career as a pass rusher in the team's nickel package.
