NFL - NO Coach Gregg Williams Audio Released

Source: Yahoo! Sports - Michael Silver

A speech recorded by documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon allegedly captured former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams imploring his players to injure specific San Francisco 49ers the night before January's NFC Wild Card Game. Williams delivers a fiery, profanity-laced speech urging Saints players to inflict harm on several 49ers, including QB Alex Smith, RB Frank Gore, and WRs Michael Crabtree and Kyle Williams. 'At one point Williams says, 'We hit (expletive) Smith right there' - then he points under his chin (and continues) - 'remember me,'' Pamphilon said. 'Then he rubs his thumb against his index and middle fingers - the cash sign - and says, 'I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that (expletive) out.''

The more that comes out about Williams' role in bountygate the more it looks like he may never coach in the league again.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden injury update

Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) said during a radio interview that he is feeling good, and will continue to play the same style he always has in 2012. McFadden will not worry about the fear of being injured.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden is one of the best RBs in the game when he's healthy. The problem is, he's battled through multiple foot injuries so far in his career. He's the ultimate boom/bust player in fantasy football.

Former Cowboys Special Teams coach Joe Avezzano Dies

Source: Todd Archer - ESPN.com

Joe Avezzano, who won three Super Bowl rings as a Dallas Cowboys special teams coach and was known for his engaging personality, died Thursday in Italy. He was 68.

Avezzano reportedly was working out on a treadmill when he suffered a heart attack. He recently was hired as head coach of the Italian Football League's Milano team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Condolences to friends and family of Coach Avezzano. He always seemed like a guy that loved what he was doing.

BAL - RB Rice doesn't have a deal yet but wants to be with Ravens

Source: Clifton Brown - Sporting News

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice does not want to miss offseason workouts because of his contract dispute with the team.

The Ravens placed the franchise tag on Rice, which would pay him about $7.7 million next season. Rice wants a long-term deal and has not signed the contract, meaning he is not required to participate in the team's offseason activities. Whether Rice reports or not, his heart is clearly with the Ravens.

"Me and my agent (Todd France) have been going over things," Rice said Tuesday. "What we're going to do is figure out what's best for us going forward. You got to protect yourself. But I want to go. I like to be around my guys.

"If they want to get a deal done, they'll get it done—whether it's July or next week. What we're asking for isn't anything the other guys aren't asking for."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This feels like a deal that will easily get done. Teams are more reluctant than ever to break the bank for a RB, but Rice is a quality team guy that they'll get him in the fold without trouble I'd think. If not, they'll have to face Ray Lewis...

NFL - WR Jerome Simpson gets 15 days in jail

Source: The Associated Press

Free-agent WR Jerome Simpson (Bengals) has been sentenced to 15 days in jail and three years of probation after reaching a plea agreement on the charge of committing a prohibited act relating to controlled substances.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now that the legal system has run it's course the NFL will look further into this situation. He could get suspended to start the 2012 regular season. Simpson has gotten very little interest in free agency and may go back to the Bengals.

CHI - WR Johnny Knox injury update

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said WR Johnny Knox (back) continues to make progress; however, there is no timetable for his return at this point. 'He has made progress and will continue to make progress. As I've told him, ultimately it'll be him that will decide when he comes back,' Emery said. 'It'll be him telling us where he's at in the rehab process. We're a long way from having to make that decision and we're going to lean heavily on Johnny helping us make that decision. Johnny's made every effort to get back as quick as he can, and he is making progress. Yeah, you want to be cautious because it was a tough injury. It was a heavy-contact injury. Johnny understands where he's at. He's going to keep pushing forward, and there couldn't be a Bear with a better attitude than him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Knox suffered a horrific looking back injury back in December against the Seahawks. There's a good chance he'll begin the season on the PUP list.

TB - QB Josh Freeman explains 2011 struggles

Source: Pat Yasinskas - ESPN.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman said he thinks he struggled last season because he was trying to force throws and did not let the play come to him. Freeman said he has been working out with former NFL QB Chris Weinke this offseason to work on improving his play.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman suffered big time last year, but the Bucs added superstar WR Vincent Jackson this offseason in free agency. That alone should help him turn things around in 2012. However, new Bucs coach Greg Schiano is set to implement a more run heavy offense which may limit Freeman's fantasy value to a mid-range QB2 only.

IND - RBs Delone Carter, Donald Brown may split time

Source: Phillip B. Wilson - Indystar.com

The Indianapolis Colts may decide to split the carries between RBs Delone Carter and Donald Brown in order to keep them both fresh during games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown finally began playing up to his potential last year and should be the lead back for the Colts. We could see Carter used more as a short-yardage and goalline back in 2012.

MIN - WR Percy Harvin to have minor surgery

Source: NFL.com

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin (shoulder) played with a sprained acromioclavicular joint last year, and an MRI exam showed damage around the AC joint that will require minor arthroscopic surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's considered a minor procedure and Harvin will need a couple of weeks to recover. He's unlikely to miss any of the offseason workouts that start on May 29th.

NFL - Goodell warns teams about Wonderlic score leaks

Source: NFL.com / AP

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has sent a memo to all 32 teams threatening "significant discipline" to anyone caught leaking confidential information gathered on draft prospects to the public.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

I've never understood the fascination and mockery for players that score poorly on the Wonderlic. Whether it's Vince Young or this year's Morris Claiborne. Hopefully fans can find something else to laugh about.

NFL - Nike uniforms only slightly different

Source: Paul Lukas - ESPN.com

Much was made of Nike taking over the NFL uniforms. After all the hype, Tuesday's much-anticipated unveiling event basically boiled down to this: a serious makeover for the Seahawks, and mostly more of the same for everyone else.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As Lukas notes, the alternate uniforms were not revealed. There is some buzz that the alternates will show some of the wild looks that Nike's been doing with the college uniforms. Should be fun.

STL - Former WR Holt Retires with Rams

Source: AP

Wide receiver Torry Holt signed a one-day contract so he could retire with the St. Louis Rams.

He'd like to be remembered as a player who gave it his all and had fun doing it.

"I want my legacy to be a guy that respected the game of football, a guy that respected his teammates, his coaches, challenged guys on a day-to-day basis, whether I said something or didn't say anything, and just loved playing," Holt said Wednesday. "This being a childhood dream of mine, how many of us can say that we're doing what we dreamed of doing?"

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hats off to Holt for an excellent career. Best to him in whatever is next.

BAL - S Ed Reed wants new deal to play in 2012

Source: BaltimoreRavens,com - Sarah Ellison

Baltimore Ravens FS Ed Reed is planning to play in the 2012 season; however, his plans could change if he does not receive the respect he deserves in the form of a renegotiated deal. 'I got some unfinished business,' Reed said. 'I got a lot on my mind I've been thinking about. The truth of the matter is, it's about respect. It's about getting respect and it's a business.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed asked for a new contract last year and was denied. Going into the final year of his deal he's owed $7.2MM in base salary. The Ravens have their hands full of players wanting new deals like QB Joe Flacco, RB Ray Rice, and Reed.

DET - DL Nick Fairley arrested

Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN.com

Detroit Lions DL Nick Fairley was arrested Tuesday, April 3, for possession of marijuana.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The day after 2011 second-round pick RB Mikel LeShoure was arrested (again) for marijuana possession the Lions' 2011 first-round pick gets popped. We believe this is his first offense and thus won't be in as much trouble with the league as LeShoure could be.
