MIN - RB Adrian Peterson looking to regain explosiveness
Source: CBSSports.com
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said the next step in his rehab process is regaining his explosiveness. 'The ability to get back to where I want; the cutting ability and being as explosive as I used to be - and better,' Peterson said. 'I'm doing pretty good running. Conditioning-wise, I have a long ways to go, but I am making strides. The biggest hurdle right now is being explosive, being able to cut like I once did before.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Peterson is already running on his surgically repaired knee, but expect the team to be cautious with him in training camp. There's a chance he could sit out most of the preseason in anticipation for the start of the regular season.
BAL - No progress in QB Joe Flacco talks
Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio
There are no signs of a breakthrough in contract talks between the Baltimore Ravens and QB Joe Flacco. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the two sides are expected to keep talking through the remaining months of the offseason.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Flacco is entering the final year of his rookie contract and feels he should get paid like a top 5 QB. The Ravens don't have that much salary cap space and may not be willing to give Flacco the kind of guaranteed money he wants.
DAL - DeMarco Murray says he is ready
Source: CBSSports.com
Updating a previous item, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (ankle) said he is ready for the 2012 season after a broken ankle injury kept him out of the final four games last season. 'It's going great - just happy to be around the guys. I've been working out since the season ended so I'm excited to get things rolling a little bit. I'm definitely cleared and ready to go,' Murray said.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Great news for the Cowboys and fantasy owners here. Murray should compete with Felix Jones to be the lead back for Dalls this year. We expect Murray to win the job and perform like a RB2 with upside in 2012.
CLE - Trent Richardson will fully participate
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot
Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said RB Trent Richardson (knee) will fully participate in the rookie minicamp this weekend even though he underwent knee surgery this offseason.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It was a minor procedure and NFL teams weren't concerned about this before the draft. He had his left knee scoped back in February but should be good to participate in everything the Browns want him to.
NYJ - Tim Tebow is only meeting with offense
Source: The Star-Ledger – Jenny Vrentas
New York Jets QB Tim Tebow said he has only attended quarterback and offensive meetings this offseason.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tebow is a quarterback and will certainly be groomed as the backup behind Mark Sanchez. However, if Sanchez fails to impress it wouldn't surprise us to see Tebow replace him in the starting lineup. Until that happens Tebow will be used as a Wildcat QB and on special teams.
OAK - WR Plaxico Burress interested in joining team
Source: SiriusXM NFL Radio - Adam Schein
Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said he would be interested in signing with the Oakland Raiders.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Raiders WR corps is already jam packed with up and coming talents like Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore, and rookie Juron Criner. We don't think Burress would fit in as good as he would with other teams like Cleveland.
CLE - WR Plaxico Burress interested in joining team
Source: SiriusXM NFL Radio - Adam Schein
Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said he would be interested in signing with the Cleveland Browns.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Browns need a lot of help at the WR position that Burress could provide. It might be the best situation for him in terms of playing time. He could compete with Mohamed Massoquoi for the starting job opposite Greg Little.
CAR - WR Plaxico Burress interested in joining team
Source: SiriusXM NFL Radio - Adam Schein
Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said he would be interested in signing with the Carolina Panthers.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Panther could use more veteran depth behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Burress isn't the same player he used to be but could be effective as a red zone target.
TEN - WR Kenny Britt injury update
Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky
Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt (knee) said he is optimistic about being ready for the 2012 season; however, his rehab has been a struggles at times. 'I'm out there running, mostly at full speed, cutting, running around,' Britt said. 'The knee's still swollen, but that comes with the territory and we've got three months before I get back on the field.' Britt added it's difficult to watch his teammates head out for work on the field and he can't join them.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Britt is very talented and looked great last year before hurting his knee against the Broncos in week three. He'll perform like a low end WR1 if he's healthy this year. The Titans added another weapon to the passing game this offseason when they selected Kendall Wright in the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
SEA - Russell Wilson contract update
Source: Scout.com - Aaron Wilson
Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson agreed to a four-year deal worth $2.99 million. The deal included a $619,400 signing bonus.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wilson is likely to sit on the bench this year and learn the pro game behind Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson. He could develop into the QB of the future because of his arm strength, athleticism, and deep accuracy.
BAL - WR Jacoby Jones thankful for new opportunity
Source: NFL.com
Baltimore Ravens WR Jacoby Jones said he is excited for a fresh start with his new team. 'I got a new breath of fresh air,' Jones said. 'It's a great opportunity. Everything happens for a reason. I'm here, I'm a Raven now.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones gives the Ravens an upgrade at the KR/PR position. He'll also compete for the third WR spot behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith. Jones should win the job unless ball security becomes an issue for him again.
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
The New England Patriots officially inked RB Joseph Addai Thursday, May 10.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Addai will compete with Danny Woodhead to be the team's change of pace, third-down RB. Second-year RB Stevan Ridley will be the team's primary ballcarrier.
CHI - Alshon Jeffery works out with QB Josh McCown
Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery worked out with QB Josh McCown last weekend in South Carolina. Jeffery ran routes and caught passes from McCown during the workout.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jeffery is intent on proving himself on the pro level this year. He'll make a perfect No.2 WR opposite Brandon Marshall because of his size, deceptive speed, and deep ball tracking ability.
OAK - Terrelle Pryor questioned desire to play football
Source: SI.com - Jim Trotter
Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor, whose late arrival to the NFL via the supplemental draft following by a league-imposed five-game suspension, became a forgotten man in 2011. As a result, it nearly made him decide to forget about football. 'There was a point - and I know it seems crazy - but there was a point I was asking myself if I really loved this game anymore,' Pryor said. 'That's where I was at (emotionally). Throughout the whole season I wasn't playing, I wasn't getting no love toward me. I just felt some type of way. I started questioning myself, even though I shouldn't have. I was like, 'Do I even love this game? Do I want to play this game? Is this what I want to do?''
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pryor has natural talent but his technical QB skills are very raw. He'll continue to develop as the Raiders third-string QB behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
HOU - Agree to deal with QB John Beck
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
The Houston Texans agreed to a deal with free-agent QB John Beck (Redskins) Wednesday, May 9.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Why? We like Undrafted Free Agent Case Keenum more than Beck. He's failed to impress with three different teams (Miami, Baltimore, Washington) and is unlikely to do much for Houston if he even makes the team.
TB - Da'Quan Bowers has torn Achilles'
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Da'Quan Bowers (Achilles') has suffered a torn Achilles' during the team's offseason workout program.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
For the second-year in a row Bowers is going to have to recover from a serious lower leg injury. As a rookie last year he was rehabbing from a microfracture procedure on his knee, and it caused his draft stock to fall. This makes the Buccaneers dangerously thin at Defensive End.
CLE - Phil Taylor could have torn pectoral
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Tony Grossi
Cleveland Browns DT Phil Taylor (pectoral) is undergoing an MRI exam to confirm a possible torn pectoral muscle.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Really bad news for the Browns here. If Taylor's diagnosed with a torn pectoral, he could miss the entire 2012 season.
TB - GM hints CB Ronde Barber could play safety
Source: CBSSports.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said in an interview that the team may still move CB Ronde Barber to safety. 'If we need to make a move to pull (Barber) back from safety to corner, we can do that in a heartbeat,' Dominik said when asked about the possibility of losing CB Aqib Talib following his trial on assault charges in June.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Like most CBs when they get older, Barber is ready made to make the switch to Free Safety when the team asks him.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Have a great Friday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
Peace, J
