SEA - Russell Wilson could become starter

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who will start the team's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, could become the team's starter for the regular season opener if he has a good showing. Wilson will play with the first-team offense at least in the first half and then give way to QB Matt Flynn. Wilson is 22-for-33 with 279 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also has 92 rushing yards and a score. Flynn is 17-for-26 with 102 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

It's never boring with Pete Carroll. This feels a little like Arizona except Carroll seems to be cutting right to the chase and going with the underdog over the unproven high dollar free agent. Flynn still could certainly be the Week 1 Starter but it looks like Wilson is going to get his shot to earn the starting gig.

JAX - RB Maurice Jones-Drew not happy with organization

Source: The Associated Press

Adisa Bakari, Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew's agent, said his client is not happy with the stance that owner Shad Khan is taking in response to his holdout. 'Maurice wants to play for an organization that wants him and for an owner who respects him and values what he brings to a team on the field, in the locker room and in the community,' Bakari said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lots of posturing going on here. Shad Khan is saying that the "train is leaving" the station and Jones-Drew needs to get on. Jones-Drew wants to renegotiate with two years left on his deal. Owners break "contracts" just like players do so that's not a huge issue. Renegotiating with two years left though does raise a few eyebrows. We're starting to get really worried about Jones-Drew even if he does sign soon. He's missed a ton of important work plus we always worry about the health for guys that hold out like this. He's dropping down the boards.

MIN - No setbacks for RB Adrian Peterson

Source: The Associated Press

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has had no setbacks in his recovery after the team decided not to use Peterson in any remaining preseason games. 'There are no setbacks. That's not the reason we're doing it,' Frazier said. 'We just feel like more time with him in practice with some of the things that we're doing and the progression of getting him ready for the season, it's the right thing to do.' Frazier isn't guaranteeing that Peterson will play in Week 1, and the team will continue to be cautious with his recovery. He's ahead of schedule, but the team doesn't see harm in continuing to be cautious. Peterson carried the ball 18 times in practice Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for Peterson here. Holding him back a bit feels like the right thing to do.

PHI - QB Michael Vick has rib contusion

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick (ribs) has a rib contusion, but no fractured cartilage or broken bones, an MRI and CT scan revealed Tuesday, Aug. 21.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vick will take it easy while he deals with this painful but manageable injury. He should be ready to go by the start of the regular season, but this latest injury will drop his ADP. He may fall to the late fourth-round, especially with how hot guys like Matt Ryan have become. If healthy Vick could be a top 5 fantasy QB, but drafting him comes with plenty of risk.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant says he will be ready for Week 1

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) said that there is no doubt he will be ready for the Cowboys' game Week 1 against the New York Giants.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has enormous physical potential, but we all know that potential is a dangerous word. If he stays healthy and finally produces at the level he should then he would finish the year as a top 10 fantasy WR. Drafting Bryant early is a risky proposition. If you believe in him then look to add him somewhere in the fourth-round, and preferably as a WR2.

PIT - WR Mike Wallace expected back this weekend

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Mike Wallace is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh this weekend to sign his one-year contract, according to multiple sources.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the only move for Wallce really. He could play in the team's final preseason game against the Panthers if he does end up reporting. There's a chance this move could also reopen his negotiations with the team on a long-term extension.

DAL - WR Miles Austin to miss rest of preseason

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Tim MacMahon

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn't expect WR Miles Austin (hamstring) to play for the remainder of the preseason while dealing with a strained hamstring. However, the team expects him to be ready for the team's Sept. 5 opener against the New York Giants. 'We're basically just wanting to make sure he's ready for New York,' Jones said. 'That's where it's all headed for him. He probably will need some work, just logic tells you, before he gets in the game, but we're not interested in seeing him (play in the preseason).'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Austin is very talented but has been bothered and held out of games by hamstring problems in the past. His current ADP reflects this latest issue as he's coming off the board at WR25 near the beginning of the sixth-round in most 12 team leagues. If he stays healthy (and that is one sizable IF) Austin could certainly outperform that position and be a top 10 fantasy WR. Proceed with caution when considering Austin for your fantasy team.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks feels good

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) said he felt good after two days of practice and would like to play in the preseason, but is not sure if he will.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nicks has incredible talent but always seems to be banged up. Those foot injuries have given fantasy owners pause when looking to add Nicks to their team. He's coming off the board as WR12 near the start of the fourth-round in most 12-team leagues.

STL - Brian Quick standing out

Source: NFL.com - Brian McIntyre

St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick is having a terrific preseason, using his size to his advantage. While still playing with the second-team offense, Quick has stood out, and as Rams QB Sam Bradford pointed out, it appears that the light bulb has come on for him. The next step for Quick will be getting reps with the first-team offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Quick is a raw prospect with good upside if he can develop his skill set. He's got a big frame but fails to use it properly to shield defenders away from the ball. Quick is fast downfield but not a crisp route runner and tends to give away his cuts. If he can develop quickly there is a sizable role for him on the Rams this year.

NYG - Eli Manning praises David Wilson

Source: SportingNews.com - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants QB Eli Manning praised RB David Wilson, talking about how fast he is and hard he runs. 'He's obviously very fast, and he runs hard,' Manning said. 'He lowers his shoulder, and delivers a powerful punch. That's his style, and that powerful running is kind of New York tradition. Even though he's not considered the big back a lot of the Giants are known for, he still runs hard like a lot of the running backs here do.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the upside of Wilson and feel he could easily be a full time back for the Giants if they needed him to. Coming out of Virginia Tech he reminded many scouts of Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles. Wilson also led the NCAA last year in yards after contact, so any talk about him being 'too small' is foolish. His fumbling issues need to be cleaned up but Wilson should be a valuable piece of the Giants ground game behind Ahmad Bradshaw.

NFL - RB Clinton Portis set to retire

Source: The Washington Times - Rich Campbell

The Washington Redskins announced a retirement press conference Thursday, Aug. 23, for RB Clinton Portis.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Portis splashed onto the scene as a rookie with the Denver Broncos in 2002. He rushed for over 1,500 yards each of his first two seasons in the league with Denver. However, in 2004 the team decided to trade him to the Washington Redskins for Cornerback Champ Bailey. He had an up and down career in Washington and ends his career just 77 yards shy of 10,000 for his career. Portis will also be remember for his wacky interview personae like Southeast Jerome.

MIA - QB Matt Moore disappointed

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore was disappointed in the outcome of the team's QB competition and losing the starting job to Ryan Tannehill. "I'm doing my job....I was disappointed. As a leader of the team you want to be back there with the guys," Moore said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore had to see the writing on the wall here. He struggled in practice, and continued to perform poorly in the preseason. Tannehill is the clear cut QB of the future after being a top 10 pick in the first-round of this year's draft.

CLE - QB Colt McCoy battling for backup job

Source: The Associated Press

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy is still battling for the backup quarterback job with QB Seneca Wallace. McCoy was more accurate than Wallace Tuesday, Aug. 21, but McCoy lacks the same velocity as QB Brandon Weeden, who is expected to start. 'When I first got diagnosed with this,' McCoy said, 'the doctor said it was a two- to three-year recovery. OK? So now I'm getting to that point, and my shoulder feels really good. The ball's coming out well. There's a lot of zip on it.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still say McCoy is on the trade block for the right price. Weeden is the clear starter and the team would want to avoid any QB controversy if their first-round pick struggles early this year.

DAL - QB Tony Romo thinks team had good camp

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Jimmy Burch

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo thinks the team had a really good training camp, laying the foundation for the season. "This was a great start to the season, with the effort and commitment," Romo said. "I know we've got some guys banged up, and so we've got to get a lot of guys healthy. But we laid the foundation and it was a really, really, really good camp for the Dallas Cowboys."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nice optimism from Romo here, but there are still concerns with this team. First, will the O-Line be good enough to give Romo adequate protection this year. Next, will WRs Miles Austin and Dez Bryant (plus TE Jason Witten) be healthy and play up to their potential in 2012. Finally, will their revamped secondary be enough to strengthen their defense. The Cowboys are going to be an exciting team to watch this season, as they are most every year.

MIA - Jeff Fuller turning heads

Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Andy Kent

Miami Dolphins rookie WR Jeff Fuller is making a good impression with the coaching staff halfway through the preseason. 'We like Jeff. He's making steady progress,' head coach Joe Philbin said. 'I want to say he played upwards of around 40 snaps if I'm not mistaken the other night. He obviously caught that nice ball down the middle of the field on a good protection, adjustment by Ryan and a good pickup by the offensive line and the running back. It was one of the better-executed plays that we had. He's a good threat down the middle of the field. He's a good red zone threat. These next couple of weeks are important for him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller flashed as a junior at Texas A&M but struggled to impress during his senior year. He's a big WR with a large wingspan and natural ball skills. The Dolphins WR corps isn't overflowing with talent so there's a chance Fuller could work his way into a larger role than some think.

MIA - Tight ends get praise

Source: Twitter

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin praised his tight end group Tuesday, Aug. 21, saying TE Anthony Fasano is solid and TE Charles Clay has quietly had a nice camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not excited by Fasano's prospects in most standard re-draft leagues. We are intrigued by Clay in deep dynasty leagues. He's incredibly versatile and can play a number of different positions for the Dolphins. This team lacks weapons so a guy like Clay could get more work than some think.

PIT - OLB James Harrison update

Source: The Associated Press

Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list before the team's last preseason game, and he's optimistic he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peyton Manning can't be happy about this news. Harrison believes he needs a few more practices before he can be cleared to play against the Broncos.
