Trick shot QB video lands Tanney a tryout

Source:

A five-minute YouTube video made quarterback Alex Tanney an overnight sensation for his uncanny accuracy.

Now the Division III Monmouth College (Ill.) product will provide the Buffalo Bills a chance to see whether he has a future in the NFL. After being passed up in the NFL draft last weekend, Tanney accepted an invitation to participate in the Bills' three-day rookie minicamp that opens May 11.

After a week of sorry sports news stories, I needed this one. Thinking maybe you did to. Love this.

NO - Mark Ingram injury update

Source: The Associated Press

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (knee) is expected to be ready well before training camp opens after having arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, May 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's important to note the problems Ingram has had with his knees over the last couple of years. He's incredibly talented but will have to stay healthy if he wants to prove he was worth a first-round pick. Monitor his fantasy price because he could be a nice buy low candidate if you need RB help.

IND - Andrew Luck reaching out to WRs

Source: The Associated Press

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck said he is hoping to work out with WR Austin Collie in California between now and June and has offered to travel to Miami so he can work with WR Reggie Wayne and rookie WR T.Y. Hilton. If Luck can make all those plans work, he thinks he'll be a lot more comfortable when he returns to Indy next month. 'I'm going to try and digest all of the information first, so I can build up a little credibility,' Luck said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great to see this kind of leadership from the rookie. He should be able to get off to a fast start as a rookie because of his work ethic and natural skill set. For fantasy purposes we see Luck as a QB2 with upside.

IND - Andrew Luck very poised in workout

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said QB Andrew Luck had no nerves during his first offseason workout with the team. 'Zero. He is unflappable. Mature beyond his years,' Pagano said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Luck is a mature QB who has tons of playing experience. His composure is off the charts and he did a good job at Stanford of managing plays under duress. Luck will calmly go through his progressions as the rush surrounds him. He has the athletic ability to be dangerous as a scrambler, but is always looking to pass first.

NE - Sign RB Joseph Addai

Source: mike chappell - Indianapolis Star

Mike Chappell, from the Indianapolis Star, reports via Twitter that former Colts RB Joseph Addai has signed with the New England Patriots.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A good fit for Addai's skill set here. He will likely be the change of pace RB behind second-year back Stevan Ridley. This cuts into the potential opportunity for second year RB Shane Vereen.

NO - Mark Ingram could be ready in four weeks

Source: CBSSports.com - Larry Holder

Updating previous reports, New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram's (knee) arthroscopic knee surgery was considered minor and there is a chance he would be recovered in four weeks. It was originally believed he would be sidelined for six weeks.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Four weeks or six weeks, the team will be very careful with the second-year RB as he comes back from yet another knee procedure.

SEA - QB Matt Flynn embracing QB competition

Source: CBSSports.com

Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn said he has no issue competing for the team's starting quarterback job. 'That's why I came here,' Flynn said. 'I came here for the opportunity to compete. I know that's what I'm going to get and that's all a guy can ask for.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks added the veteran QB in free agency but aren't just handing him the job. He'll compete with Tarvaris Jackson and rookie Russell Wilson for the starting job. We expect Flynn to win the job but if he struggles the team might have a quick hook for him.

STL - GM wasn't interested in dealing QB Sam Bradford

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said Friday, April 4, that the team was not interested in trading QB Sam Bradford in order to take QB Robert Griffin III. 'No,' Snead said. 'The only time it might've crossed my mind was if, for some reason, we were to get stuck (with the No. 2 pick overall in the 2012 NFL Draft) because we didn't get what we really wanted. Do you take the kid and trade him from there? That might've been the only time, and that would've been the riskiest of risky moves. But I'll be clear: We decided early on that Sam was out quarterback.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradford suffered through a sophomore slump last year, but it's too soon for the team to start thinking about another direction. The new staff led by HC Jeff Fisher has given Bradford more weapons through the draft and are intent on putting his career back on path. We could easily see Bradford having a strong bounce back year in 2012. For fantasy purposes we see him as a QB2 with upside.

NFL - QB Donovan McNabb waiting for an opportunity

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said that he has been working out, getting into better shape and focusing on his fundamentals as a passer, and he's ready just as soon as some team wants to pick up the phone and call. 'I've been training hard and preparing myself out in San Diego working with George Whitfield, the obviously well-known quarterback guru, supposedly, for over the past month,' McNabb said. 'Just kind of refining the skills, working on the mechanics and getting back to a high level, an elite level. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to display that.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNabb is not the same player he used to be, and is unlikely to get any interest as a starting QB anymore. Even as a backup teams might now want McNabb around. We'll see if injuries to the QB position in training camp open up an opportunity for McNabb.

MIA - Ryan Tannehill ready to be a leader

Source: NFL.com

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he sees being the leader of the franchise as part of his job description and that he is ready to take on that role. 'I hope I'm looked at as the leader of the team,' Tannehill said. 'I want to try to get guys going and get guys playing together and make everyone around me better. That's the job of a leader; that's the job of a quarterback.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill is a strong leader and will help give the Dolphins some direction. He may not win the starting job this year as he had limited experience in college but we feel he is a Franchise QB who just needs time to develop. Tannehill has great composure, a strong arm, and the athletic ability to escape pressure with ease.

CLE - Brandon Weeden feels he is ready

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden said he is ready to start immediately in the NFL if he's called upon. 'I feel like I'm ready,' Weeden said. 'I have a long way to go, but I feel like I've taken the right steps to get to where I can play at that level. If I'm asked to be the guy Day One, I'm going to do everything on my part to put our team in position to win games and score points. I'm really anxious to get going and the season will be here before you know it.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weeden isn't "pro ready" as he ran the offense exclusively out of the shotgun formation in college at Oklahoma State. We like his ability (and willingness) to throw into tight windows. However, he doesn't respond well to pressure and has trouble when a receiver is re-routed at the line of scrimmage. We expect him to win the starting job over Colt McCoy in camp, but he'll certainly go through a rough adjustment period his rookie season.

BUF - Dorin Dickerson to try out

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Jerry DiPaola

Free-agent TE Dorin Dickerson (Patriots) will try out for the Buffalo Bills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dickerson is built like a super sized WR and is not known as a blocker. The Bills could use better TE depth behind Scott Chandler and Lee Smith.

PIT - Maurkice Pouncey 100 percent

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey said he is completely recovered from the ankle surgery he underwent this offseason. He has bone spurs taken out of his ankle to help stabilize his ankle.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A healthy Pouncey will help protect QB Ben Roethlisberger better. Throw in the rookie additions of OG David DeCastro and OT Mike Adams and the Steelers will actually look like a competent Offensive Line.

JAX - Justin Blackmon to wear No. 14

Source: CBSSports.com

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon will wear jersey No. 14 for the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blackmon is going to be the top WR for the Jags this year. He reminds many in the scouting community of a young Anquan Boldin because of his size and run after the catch ability. If QB Blaine Gabbert is going to avoid the sophomore slump then he must build chemistry with Blackmon ASAP.

CLE - Mike Holmgren said he urged draft trade with Minnesota

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren disputed a report that the team got fooled into trading up to the No. 3 overall slot with the Minnesota Vikings to draft RB Trent Richardson. 'Contrary to what was written and said, we had to compete,' said Holmgren. 'We weren't the Lone Ranger in that deal.' Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said multiple teams were after the pick, even hours before the draft. Holmgren also stressed that he urged general manager Tom Heckert and head coach Pat Shurmur not to let Richardson slip away. 'You don't want to be up there, really,' Holmgren said. 'But we were up there so it was very, very important who we chose there. That's why we targeted Trent. We didn't want to lose him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns got their man, RB Trent Richardson with the 3rd overall pick. Richardson is simply the best RB to come out of college since Adrian Peterson and will be the full time workhorse the Browns have been looking for. We wouldn't be surprised to see him finish the year as a top 12 fantasy RB.

NFL - Chad Clifton has no plans to retire

Source: ESPNMilwaukee.com - Jason Wilde

Free-agent OT Chad Clifton (Packers) said Friday, May 4, that he has no plans to retire from the NFL after being released after 12 years with the Green Bay Packers. 'Right now, I'm back in Nashville, trying to get my back as strong as possible, just trying to get healthy, and we'll take it from there,' Clifton said. 'If there's interest, we'll see if I'm interested and kind of play it by ear.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the lack of quality Offensive Linemen, there is likely a team interested in Clifton if he can pass a physical.

SEA - Two receivers continue to rehab

Source: The Seattle Times - Danny O'Neil

Seattle Seahawks WRs Sidney Rice (shoulder) and Mike X. Williams (leg) were not on the field for workouts Friday, May 4, as they continue to rehab injuries. Rice underwent surgery on both of his shoulders during the offseason, while Williams is coming back from a leg injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rice and Williams are big parts of the passing game, so expect the team to be very cautious with both so their injuries are not aggravated.

KC - Like Dontari Poe's upside

Source: CBSSports.com

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli defended his selection of DL Dontari Poe in the NFL Draft by saying he is more than a workout warrior. Pioli likes Poe's upside as a player. 'All these people say he's a workout warrior and that means he can't play,' Pioli said. 'With our eyes, we think he's a player with upside, but we don't think he's a project.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Poe didn't make many plays on film at Memphis but showed tremendous athletic ability at the Scouting Combine. The Chiefs are going to use him exclusively as a NT in hopes of getting the most out of his ability.

BAL - Will overcome loss of DE Terrell Suggs

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh offered no timetable on the return of LB Terrell Suggs (Achilles'), but he stressed the team won't dwell on his loss. 'He will be okay, Terrell Suggs will be fine. He will be back,' Harbaugh said. 'He will go to work on that rehab like no other. He will continue to be a huge part of what we are doing, continue to be a leader and then the young guys will step up. They will step forward, and you are a football team first, you are a team, team is not one guy.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens will certainly miss Suggs on the field and will be asking for more from rookie Courtney Upshaw.

NYJ - Quinton Coples thinks he knows most of playbook

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

New York Jets DL Quinton Coples said he felt like he already knew most of what he would need to know about the team's defensive playbook. 'The defensive scheme, the majority of it is based off of what we got today,' Coples said, 'so I grasped the majority of the defensive playbook today.' Head coach Rex Ryan laughed, however, when he was told that Coples thinks he has the playbook down. 'We love the fact that he thinks he has it down. This is one practice and he has like four defenses in and our library is a little more extensive than that,' Ryan said. 'And the great thing is we will hold him to it now. So in the meeting that will be our first question, we will come up with something for him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets are relying on Coples to make an immediate impact as a rookie. If he plays up to his potential then he could be the next Julius Peppers. He looked fantastic at the Senior Bowl earlier this year but he did not show up the same on film at North Carolina.
