PHI - QB Michael Vick leaves game

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Les Bowen

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick (undisclosed) left the preseason game Monday, Aug. 20, after getting hit in the midsection.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As if Eagles fans needed more reason to worry about Mike Vick. The hit was after Vick threw a pass. He got up slowly after the hit, took a few steps and then went back down to one knee and the trainers came out. Vick walked off under his own power but had a hand on his chest. X-rays taken in the locker room were negative which is good but there could be cartilage damage that is very painful. Stay tuned here. The Eagles are in a tough spot as backup QB Mike Kafka is dealing with a fractured left hand. Nick Foles filled in at QB with Vick out.

IND - WR Austin Collie suffered concussion

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Phil Richards

Indianapolis Colts WR Austin Collie (concussion) suffered a concussion in the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 19, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Collie said he is feeling fine but is listed as day-to-day.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Collie had multiple concussions last year and some questioned whether or not he could return to the NFL. This concussion will shut him down for the rest of the preseason, and his week 1 status is certainly in question. For what it's worth, Collie's agent downplayed the issue but Pagano was pretty clear in what he said, "Austin (Collie) did suffer a concussion," Pagano said Monday. "He came in today, felt really good, was examined by the doctors and basically is going to be day-to-day. He felt really good coming out of the game this morning after being evaluated today."

DAL - WR Dez Bryant MRI results

Source: DallasCowboys.com - Rowan Kavner

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's (knee) MRI results show patellar tendinitis, which should only require rest.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sounds like Bryant is going to be okay here. He's been turning heads in training camp and has the physical skill set to be one of the top WRs in the game today. Bryant has never played up to his potential but if he does he could be a top 10 fantasy WR.

MIA - Ryan Tannehill named starter

Source: Twitter

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has named QB Ryan Tannehill as the team's starting quarterback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt Moore has struggled in practice and in the preseason. Tannehill knows the offense like the back of his hand since it's essentially the same system he ran in college at Texas A&M. We like his athleticism, arm strength, and pocket presence. He's got big dynasty upside, but shouldn't be counted on as a QB2 this year.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson not game ready

Source: Pioneer Press - Jeremy Fowler

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) was hoping to play in the team's third preseason game Friday, Aug. 24, but offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is not ready to declare him game ready. 'Probably haven't seen enough yet,' Musgrave said. 'We're going to put him through his paces today and tomorrow and the following day. Another week will be good for his development and our ability to assess his status.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is being super cautious with their superstar here. They're working to have him ready by week 1 of the regular season. Even when the season begins they could choose to ease him in the lineup.

TEN - Jake Locker named starter

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

The Tennessee Titans have named QB Jake Locker the starting quarterback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Locker is the right choice. Matt Hasselbeck has struggled in practice and the preseason. Locker is an athletic QB with a strong arm and looked good in spot duty last year as a rookie. He's a very interesting dynasty prospect and now well worth consideration as a QBBC pick for your re-draft leagues. His current ADP is QB23 and he's coming off the board in the 13th round of most 12-team leagues. We expect both of those numbers to move up with this announcement.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers feels team needs to prove they can run

Source: SportsRadioInterviews.com

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said the team is going to have to prove they can run the football this year. 'I think you just have to have at least a little bit of a threat at it, because we do a lot of play-action, movement game, where we're breaking and rolling out or just play action and throwing timing routes and the defense has to respect it (the running game) enough to suck up a little bit on the fake and give you some good throwing lanes. Sometimes you can do that by just having a big-name back in there and sometimes you need to be effective doing it,' Rodgers said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is where Cedric Benson comes in. Benson is only a two down player and won't be relied on to catch many passes out of the backfield. However, his straight ahead running style is a much better fit for the Packers spread out offense. We like Benson more than James Starks because of his determination and expect him to be the team's primary ball carrier in 2012.

BAL - Head coach praises QB Joe Flacco

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised QB Joe Flacco, saying he “has stepped it up he's doing everything a little bit better,” Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco's always had a strong arm but has needed to develop as a passer. If he can take the next step it will help the Ravens make a bigger push in the playoffs. We like him as a limited upside QB2 for your fantasy team. The Ravens are at their best when they go through Ray Rice and that limits the production of Flacco and the passing game.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw practices

Source: Newsday - Tom Rock

New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw (hand) practiced with the team Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradshaw essentially got a bruised hand in the last preseason game. He'll be okay, but it just highlights how often he gets banged up. Bradshaw's fantasy owners had better handcuff the pick with rookie David Wilson. If you add Bradshaw in the third-round make sure to snag Wilson in the eighth-round.

NYJ - Tim Tebow gets first-team reps

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Tim Tebow took first-team reps in practice with the team Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team continues to insist that Mark Sanchez is their clear cut starter. Still, we expect Tebow to see some starts this year if Sanchez struggles or is hurt.

CLE - Greg Little No. 1 WR

Source: CBSSports.com

Cleveland Browns WR Greg Little will enter the regular season as the team's featured wide receiver.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The addition of rookie QB Brandon Weeden has us more excited about the prospects of Little this year. Weeden will struggle during his rookie year, but he's bold enough to throw into any coverage. His strong arm and fearless mindset should help improve the production of guys like Little. The second-year WR is dangerous after the catch and makes for a nice WR4 with upside for your fantasy team. He's going off the board in the mid 10th round in most 12-team leagues.

TB - RB LeGarrette Blount returns to practice

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount (groin) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A quick return for Blount here. He's competing for the starting RB job with rookie Doug Martin and can't afford to miss much playing/practice time. We like Martin to win the job and expect him to perform like a low end RB2 for your fantasy team.

ARI - QB John Skelton to start Thursday

Source: NFL.com

Arizona Cardinals QB John Skelton will start in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 23.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Skelton and Kevin Kolb have performed poorly this preseason. Skelton has the big arm, but Kolb has the big contract. A decision on a starting QB for week 1 of the regular season won't be made until later in the preseason.

CLE - Trent Richardson could practice next week

Source: CBSSports.com

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (knee) is likely to practice early next week, which should give him just under three weeks to prepare for Week 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson has Adrian Peterson-like skills, but missing the entire preseason could limit his use at the start of the regular season.

SD - Vincent Brown update

Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

The San Diego Chargers have said WR Vincent Brown (ankle) will miss roughly five games with a broken ankle.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're heartbroken with the news of this injury. Brown has good upside because of his hands and route running ability. He's not a fast player but was turning heads in training camp and establishing strong trust with QB Philip Rivers. Brown could struggle to get back to pre-injury form this year. This obviously impacts his fantasy value this year. Buy low in dynasty leagues because his price should be extremely low.

SF - RB Brandon Jacobs injury update

Source: Twitter

San Francisco 49ers RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) might be available for the team's first game of the year, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jacobs isn't going to carry to the ball a lot this year as a backup behind Frank Gore. He'll work as a short yardage and goalline back if healthy.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks returns to practice

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) is set to return to practice Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nicks is coming back from breaking his foot earlier this year. He could play in the team's third preseason game if his foot responds well after practicing. Nicks seems to always be banged up by plays through most of his injuries. He's still a strong WR1 option for your fantasy team, but his durability questions have dropped his ADP into the early fourth-round.

DET - Mikel Leshoure practices without trouble

Source: The Detroit News - Chris McCosky

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 20, and did not have any problems. Leshoure has practiced for two straight days for the first time since the second day of training camp. It is not known if he will play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 26.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Leshoure is the most talented RB on the Lions roster but durability is a huge concern. He's coming back from the Achilles' injury that cost him the entire 2011 season and may battle lower leg injuries all season long.

BUF - Cordy Glenn named starter

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said OT Cordy Glenn will be the starting left tackle to start the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Bills drafted Glenn with the idea that he could be an impact player immediately. Glenn is position versatile and can play both Tackle and Guard. He's very agile for a man his size but needs a better kick step to handle elite speed rushers in the NFL. Glenn excels as a run blocker and has a powerful, violent striking hands.

ARI - TE Todd Heap leaves practice early

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals TE Todd Heap (undisclosed) left practice early Monday, Aug. 20, after suffering an undisclosed injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Heap isn't the same player he used to be and is not a consideration for fantasy owners, even as a backup TE.

TB - Awarded WR Jordan Shipley

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were awarded WR Jordan Shipley off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shipley has good concentration and strong hands but durability has been an issue for him dating back to his days in college at Texas. If healthy he could push Preston Parker and Sammie Stroughter for the team's slot WR job.

DET - RB Jahvid Best's return date remains uncertain

Source: MLive.com

The return date for Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) remains unknown. Best has not played since he suffered a concussion Oct. 16 last season against the San Francisco 49ers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Best is a strong candidate to begin the season on the PUP list. That would force him to miss the first six weeks of the regular season. After that the Lions would have a three week window to decide his fate. At that time they can choose to activate him or put him on season ending Injured Reserve.

STL - WR Steve Smith has been a buzz of training camp

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

St. Louis Rams WR Steve E. Smith has caught everything thrown his way during training camp and has been a buzz of camp. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Smith hasn't had any problems with his surgically repaired knee and they haven't had to tone back his work at all. QB Sam Bradford said he is excited about the team using both Smith and Danny Amendola in the slot at the same time. 'I think that could cause some problems for some people,' Bradford said, while also noting Smith is a great route runner.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith has good natural talent but durability is a big concern. We don't trust him as anything more than a WR5 you can add in the fourteenth-round.

ARI - William Powell impressing coaches

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said RB William Powell has been impressive during training camp and preseason. It is not known if Powell has a real chance to make the final roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Powell is making the most of his opportunity and could stick around as the team's 4th RB behind Beanie Wells, Ryan Williams, and LaRod Stephens-Howling. We like his initial burst, lower body strength, and balance when running between the tackles.

STL - Isaiah Pead not being helped by backup offensive line

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch

St. Louis Rams rookie RB Isaiah Pead needs to embrace a north-south running style. He ran backward at times during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, and his eight touches resulted in minus-8 yards. In his defense, the second-string offensive line has not given him a lot to work with during the past two games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pead doesn't have the speed or lateral agility to be a juke happy RB. We like his versatility and pass catching ability. Pead will be the primary backup behind Steven Jackson this year and could be the RB of the future once Jackson is done in St. Louis.

JAX - QB Chad Henne still No. 2 QB

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Vito Stellino

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said QB Chad Henne is still considered the No. 2 quarterback even though QB Jordan Palmer led a game-winning drive at the end of each of the first two preseason games. Mularkey did not rule out the idea of keeping three quarterbacks on the final roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henne or Palmer won't see the field much this year unless Blaine Gabbert is hurt. Gabbert's going to be given every opportunity to prove himself this year after struggling mightily as a rookie in 2011. Henne has a lot more experience than Palmer as a starter and is likely to win the backup job.

CHI - WR Brandon Marshall needs to run more disciplined routes

Source: WSCR670 - Zach Zaidman

Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall said he needs to be more disciplined in his route running after watching film of the second preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall will be okay. We're expecting him to catch 100 passes again this year because he's reunited with QB Jay Cutler. Even if Marshall gains little separation Cutler has no problem forcing the ball into tight coverage.

NO - RB Darren Sproles to sit out preseason game

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (knee) will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25, because of a knee injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If this was the regular season Sproles would likely play. This knee injury is minor and not a big concern for fantasy owners. We like Sproles as a RB2 you can add in the third-round. His fantasy value is borderline RB1 in PPR leagues.

CLE - Josh Gordon doing better in practice

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said WR Josh Gordon is starting to practice harder and completing every play instead of making a play then stopping. 'The last couple of days, he's practicing faster in my mind, catching the ball and running with it instead of catching it and stopping,' Shurmur said. 'He's learning how to do it better in practice, and as we all know if you see it here, then it'll translate to the game.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon has a nice size/speed combination but still has plenty of work to mold his raw skill set. If he develops better concentration and becomes a better route runner he could take over as a starting WR opposite Greg Little later in the year.

JAX - Blaine Gabbert having strong preseason

Source: SI.com - Peter King

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert has enjoyed a strong preseason to date, completing 18 of 26 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gabbert has looked good in the preseason and needs to carry that momentum over to the regular season. Confidence is very important for a young QB and Gabbert seems to have a 'me against the world' mindset this year. He's not worth rostering even as a backup in most fantasy leagues.

SEA - QB Tarvaris Jackson will help efforts to be traded

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson, who is set to earn $4 million this season, would be willing to alter that some to facilitate a trade to a better situation, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Seahawks would not seek compensation beyond a fifth-round draft pick, and may have to settle for less.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With so much poor QB play around the league Jackson could find a new home before the start of the regular season. Jackson is a West Coast offense QB and perhaps a team like the Packers or Eagles would be interested.

BUF - DE Shawne Merriman released

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Buffalo Bills officially announced Monday, Aug. 20, they have released LB Shawne Merriman.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They payed Merriman a $1MM roster bonus earlier this year but will save $4MM by cutting him now. Merriman is not the same player he used to be and could have a difficult time finding a new home in 2012. Over the last two seasons he's only been able to appear in 12 games and had 1 sack during that time.

CAR - Not interested in DE Shawne Merriman

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said the team does not have interest in free-agent DE Shawne Merriman (Bills) because he is more suited for a 3-4 defensive alignment and the team primarily uses the 4-3 defensive alignment.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Merriman may catch on with a new team that needs a part time pass rusher. We think the Patriots would be much more likely to re-sign DE Andre Carter when he's recovered from his quadriceps injury.
