SD - Vincent Brown has broken ankle

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle) suffered a broken left ankle in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18. He is expected to miss at least eight weeks, which means he will be sidelined until at least Week 6 of the regular season most likely. Brown is scheduled for surgery Sunday, Aug. 19.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Horrible news for the Chargers here. Brown was a standout in training camp and was set for a bigger role in his second year. He's likely to begin the season on the PUP list. That would force him to miss the first six weeks of the season and give the Chargers a three week window after that where they could activate him or put him on Injured Reserve.

GB - WR Greg Jennings hopes to play in preseason game

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers WR Greg Jennings (concussion) said he is feeling better and hopes to play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 23. Jennings said the headaches he was experiencing and the pressure in his head was not going away when he was sitting out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It would make us feel a lot better about spending a third-round pick if we could see Jennings on the field after he didn't even work out for two weeks following his third concussion as a Packer.

MIA - Coach not sure when starting QB will be named

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Izzy Gould

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team could name the starting quarterback this week but there is also a chance the team does not make the decision for another week. QBs Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill continue to compete for the job and their performances in the third preseason game could be a big factor in the choice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the Dolphins don't name a starter after the third preseason game, it could be a sign that they still want to start David Garrard when he recovers from knee surgery because neither Matt Moore nor Ryan Tannehill has played at a starter's level in camp and the preseason.

GB - RB James Starks not close to returning

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Mike Vandermause

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said RB James Starks (toe) is a few weeks away for returning because he is still dealing with turf toe.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Starks should not be drafted until this clears up. He is nothing but an injured role player in a crowded backfield right now.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw had hand contusion

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

Updating a previous report, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said RB Ahmad Bradshaw (hand) suffered a right hand contusion in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 19.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing to see here, Bradshaw is still a value running back in the fourth and viable RB2 in the third.

TEN - No timetable to QB announcement

Source: The Associated Press - Teresa M. Walker

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said there is still time to decide whether QB Matt Hasselbeck or QB Jake Locker will be the starting quarterback and did not indicate when an announcement will be made. 'We have two more weeks to see plenty, so I guess when we feel we're at that point, we'll make our announcements when we feel the time is right,' Munchak said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no reason for the Titans to commit because Locker clearly offers more upside than Hasselbeck and he still has time to recover from his poor performance this weekend.

CLE - Trent Ricardson making progress

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said RB Trent Richardson (knee) is making good progress in his rehab from knee surgery and likely return to practice in the near future.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Richardson can get healthy in time for the fourth preseason game, he might be worth taking in the second round again.

WAS - No serious injury for OLB Brian Orakpo

Source: The Washington Post - Mark Maske

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins LB Brian Orakpo (shoulder) underwent an MRI on his shoulder Sunday, Aug. 19, and it did not show any serious damage around his shoulder. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Orakpo is still a good flier for your bench in sack-heavy IDP leagues, but Ryan Kerrigan appears to be more valuable right now.

DET - Mikel Leshoure taking part in practice

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) is participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 19.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is sigh of relief for Leshoure owners in dynasty leagues. He could be a secondary power punch to Kevin Smith after he returns from his two-game suspension, but he isn't worth taking before the 11th or 12th round.

ARI - Beanie Wells expected to play in preseason game

Source: AZCardinals.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said RB Beanie Wells (knee) is expected to play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 23. He said Wells looked good during pregame warm ups before the preseason game Friday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is definitely progress and something to think about if Wells falls past the 10th round or so. It's still hard to get excited about drafting him with the poor quality of surrounding offense and presence of Ryan Williams.

TB - RB LeGarrette Blount not expected to miss a lot of time

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he does not expect RB LeGarrette Blount (groin) to miss a significant amount of time after suffering the injury in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 17. Schiano said he does not know if Blount will be able to practice this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should eliminate any chance Blount has of winning the starting job. It will also give Doug Martin a chance to prove that he can be a feature back in the third "dress rehearsal" preseason game. Martin is a fine RB2 in the fourth, or even late third round.

TEN - QB Matt Hasselbeck considered leader for QB job

Source: ESPN - John Clayton

Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is considered the leader in the starting quarterback job after QB Jake Locker struggled during the second preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This can change quickly if Locker outperforms Hasselbeck next week. Locker came into this weekend needing only to hold serve and maintain his previous level of play in camp and the preseason to clinch the job.

CLE - No. 2 QB competition expected to last entire preseason

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said the battle between QBs Seneca Wallace and Colt McCoy for the No. 2 quarterback job likely will not be decided until all four preseason games are played.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Or until the Browns work out a deal to trade McCoy for a conditional draft pick.

SEA - Looking to trade QB Tarvaris Jackson

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

The Seattle Seahawks have informed QB Tarvaris Jackson that they are looking to trade him. The team is not expecting more than a fifth-round draft choice in return and may have to accept a lesser pick. Jackson is scheduled to make $4 million this season but is willing to restructure his contract to facilitate a trade.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson could be a great fit for the Green Bay Packers, who seem to have the worst backup quarterback of any Super Bowl contender right now.

HOU - Lestar Jean still in mix for No. 3 WR job

Source: Houston Chronicle - Tania Ganguli

Houston Texans WR Lestar Jean caught four passes for 42 yards and one touchdown in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, and is still in contention for the No. 3 wide receiver job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The number three wide receiver job for Houston probably won't have much value, so this is only of interest in deep dynasty leagues.

ARI - Several will get look at LT

Source: AZCardinals.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said OTs D.J. Young and D'Anthony Batiste will get the first chance to replace OT Levi J. Brown (triceps) at left tackle. OT Nate Potter will also receive reps at left tackle. OT Jeremy Bridges could be used at left tackle if none of the other three are successful at the position. Whisenhunt said he team is not ruling out signing an offensive tackle of trading for one.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not that Levi Brown was any good, but this is still a blow for the Cardinals because it could make the offensive line even worse, and certainly puts rookie Bobby Massie on the spot. The Cardinals offense is looking toxic this year.

KC - Coach says learning offense top challenge for WR Dwayne Bowe

Source: KCChiefs.com - Josh Looney

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel the biggest challenge for WR Dwayne Bowe will be learning the new offense without the benefit of training camp. 'He's a whole training camp behind,' Crennel said. 'There's a lot. New offense, new terminology there's lots of stuff that he has to learn.' Bowe was able to pass his physical and conditioning test when he reported and has been working with strength coaches since signing tender.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowe and quarterback Matt Cassel have had a great connection in the past, and that should not change despite the missed time this year. He is very solid pick if you can still get him as a WR2 or WR3 in the fifth round.

DAL - WR Miles Austin not expected to return next week

Source: DallasCowboys.com - Josh Ellis

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he does not think WR Miles Austin (hamstring) will take part in any activities next week which means he is not expected to play in the third preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Austin's hamstring issues were a problem last year, and they have us concerned this year. He is probably still worth a sixth-round pick, but there are usually safer picks at wide receiver with just as much upside available in the fifth round.
