SF - RB Brandon Jacobs Knee Injury
Source: Marc Sessler - NFL.com
San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was helped off the field Saturday night against the Houston Texans with what appeared to be a seruious knee injury.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This one looked serious as it happened. Jacobs stayed down for a good bit and then was carted to the locker room. Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter will look to see the bulk of the work as had been the plan.
NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw Hand Injury
Source: Ohm Youngmisuk - ESPNNewYork.com
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw left the first quarter of Saturday night's exhibition game against the New York Jets with a hand injury, and X-rays came back negative.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news here that it doesn't seem serious but we'll watch this one for you.
PIT - RB Rashard Mendenhall could help after bye week
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said there is a chance RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) could play in Week 5 or Week 6 of the season if continues to make progress in his rehab. Colbert said Mendenhall came off the Physically Unable to Perform list because he has able to do everything he was allowed to while on the list. 'The trainers felt that he had progressed as far as he could in doing what they were doing,' Colbert said, 'and the kid felt confident that he was ready to take the next step. Now, the next step is being able to practice, and where that leads to nobody knows at this point.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Steelers are trying to get Mendenhall back on the field as soon as possible. Backup Isaac Redman is battling a groin and hip injury currently which has negatively impacted his fantasy stock. Redman is a risky addition as a RB4 for your fantasy team after the 10th round. Mendenhall is only worth a late round pick.
TB - RB LeGarrette Blount has groin injury
Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud
Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said Friday, Aug. 17, that the injury RB LeGarrette Blount (groin) suffered in the preseason game Friday was a groin injury and not a knee issue. The injury is not believed to be serious. Blount is vying for the starting tailback job with RB Doug Martin.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Blount was holding his knee, so this is surprising, but the important takeaway is that the injury wasn't serious. He's probably still worth drafting as the last running back in your bench in a 12 team, 20 man roster league.
CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart underwent X-rays
Source: NFL Network
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (calf) underwent X-rays on his injured calf and they came back negative.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for the Panthers here. DeAngelo Williams has looked strong in the preseason but the team will still employ a RBBC. Stewart is a good option in PPR leagues.
BAL - Anthony Allen struggling with pass blocking
Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson
Baltimore Ravens RB Anthony Allen struggled with his pass blocking for the second straight week Friday, Aug. 17, and allowed another sack this preseason.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bad news for Allen here. Backs need to protect the QB if they want to see the field. Allen is competing with Bernard Pierce and Damien Berry to be the primary backup behind Ray Rice.
DAL - May pursue WR Jordan Shipley
Source: DallasCowboys.com - Bryan Broaddus
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to show interest in free-agent WR Jordan Shipley (Bengals) and may decide to claim him off waivers.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Shipley's an injury risk but could come in and compete for the team's WR3 job with guys like Coale Beasley, Kevin Ogletree, and Andre Holmes.
PHI - Nick Foles will be No. 2 QB Monday
Source: KFFL.com
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said QB Nick Foles will take over whenever QB Michael Vick comes out of the game Monday, Aug. 20, and will play the rest of the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Foles looked good in the team's first preseason game and has earned the opportunity now that Mike Kafka will miss time because of a hand injury. Trent Edwards will play as the team's third QB.
PIT - Chris Rainey will be used as returner again
Source: CBSSports.com - Chris Adamski
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Chris Rainey will get a majority of the kick and punt returns during the early part of the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 19. WRs David Gilreath and Marquis Maze will also be used as returners during the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rainey is incredibly fast and elusive in the open field. He's listed as a RB but plays more like a slot WR. He'll help the team as a runner, receiver, and return man.
PIT - Jerrod Johnson expected to get significant playing time
Source: CBSSports.com - Chris Adamski
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated QB Jerrod Johnson will get a majority of the snaps in the second half of the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 19, because he has not gotten many preseason snaps.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson is a huge QB who is athletic and has a strong arm. He needs to work on his pocket presence, decision making, and accuracy if he wants to make the team or even the practice squad.
SF - Colin Kaepernick expected to be backup QB
Source: ESPN.com - Mike Sando
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has likely established himself as the team's No. 2 quarterback, partly because QB Josh X. Johnson hasn't done much to distinguish himself.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kaepernick has been a standout player in practice and in the preseason while Johnson isn't impressing. There's a chance Johnson gets cut as the team could choose to keep Scott Tolzien as their third-string guy. If Johnson's cut a team like Denver could be interested in adding him for veteran depth at the QB position.
KC - QB Brady Quinn likely to be No. 2 QB
Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson
Kansas City Chiefs QB Brady Quinn will likely emerge as the team's No. 2 quarterback to start the season; however, QB Ricky Stanzi will likely battle him for the job all season. The team likes both players.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Not really a surprise here. Quinn has the experience, while Stanzi has the rocket arm. Stanzi needs to show better accuracy and decision making if he wants to develop beyond being a clipboard holder.
SEA - QB job QB Matt Flynn's to lose
Source: ESPN.com - Mike Sando
Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson would likely need QB Matt Flynn to stumble some for head coach Pete Carroll to go with Wilson as the Week 1 starting quarterback.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wilson has been impressive in camp and the preseason but he's likely to begin the year as the backup behind Flynn. We like Flynn's accuracy and decision making and with him as the starter a guy like Doug Baldwin could perform well as a WR4/flex option for your fantasy team.
ARI - Levi Brown could be lost for the season
Source: thesidelineview.com - Adam Caplan
Arizona Cardinals OT Levi J. Brown (triceps) could be lost for the season with a triceps injury suffered Friday, Aug. 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A huge blow to the Cardinals here if he is in fact lost for the year. Brown is not a great pass protector but the Cardinals have one of the worst O-Lines in the league.
JAX - RB Rashad Jennings continues to impress
Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings had 11 carries for 62 yards in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 17. He continues to look like a starting-caliber running back in the absence of holdout RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jennings could start for many teams across the league, he just happens to be a backup in Jacksonville. If Jones-Drew continues to hold out Jennings could start and put up solid RB2 numbers.
BUF - QB Vince Young emerging in No. 2 QB battle
Source: ESPN.com - James Walker
Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young likely moved ahead in the race to be the team's No. 2 quarterback after a strong performance Friday, Aug. 17. Young was 8-of-14 passing for 123 yards. His counterpart, QB Tyler Thigpen, was 8-of-15 passing for 56 yards and an interception in the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If Thigpen loses out on the QB2 job he could get cut. With his starting experience there's likely going to be teams interested in him on the open market.
ARI - QB battle to continue another week
Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team's quarterback competition between QBs Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will continue for at least another week. Whisenhunt wants to see Skelton play more.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The winner of this "battle" might be whatever quarterback the Cardinals take in the top 10 of the draft next year. Arizona might have to name a winner by default - and that would be Skelton. Kevin Kolb has barely looked worth a roster spot so far in three terrible performances.
NYJ - Want more intensity from Quinton Coples
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
New York Jets coaches and players are saying DE Quinton Coples must show more intensity in practice, something that was also an issue for Coples in college.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
When Coples is 'on' he can dominate. Consistent effort was a problem for him in college, and something the Jets coaches are trying to improve. Coples looked good in limited preseason action but needs to show up big in practice as well.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for letting us be a part of what you're doing this season. We'll see you tomorrow with the update.
Peace, J
