NO - Mark Ingram undergoes surgery

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, May 3, and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.

Ingram has gone under the knife twice despite not playing a full season in the NFL. His stock is inching even further down.

MIA - Ryan Tannehill says playbook similar to college one

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said 80 to 85 percent of the team's playbook is the same as the one he used at Texas A&M. Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was the head coach at Texas A&M when Tannehill was there.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Head coach Joe Philbin has already said the QB race is wide open. Tannehill has a real chance of starting week 1.

SEA - QB Matt Flynn says offense similar to the one in GB

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Eric D. Williams

Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn said the team's offensive playbook is similar to the one he used with the Green Bay Packers so it will be easier for him to learn the offense. He said the biggest thing he will have to do is learn the verbiage the Seahawks use for plays.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flynn will have to perform well because third round pick Russell Wilson is a legitimate possibility as the Seahawks next long-term QB.

SEA - QB Tarvaris Jackson receives first reps

Source: ESPN.com - Mike Sando

Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson received the first set of snaps during a workout Friday, May 4. Head coach Pete Carroll said QB Matt Flynn still has a chance to win the job even though he did not get the first reps.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson's four million dollar salary may make him expendable if he doesn't win the starting QB job. Every snap is important for him this offseason.

GB - Have not shown interest in RB Ryan Grant

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

The Green Bay Packers have not had any conversations with free-agent RB Ryan Grant (Packers) about returning to the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is curious as Grant is only 29 and has low mileage. The Packers have no proven running backs and Grant is thoroughly familiar with their system. He could stay in the division with the Lions, who have offered him a contract.

KC - RB Peyton Hillis willing to accept any role

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Peyton Hillis said he does not know what his role will be at this point but is willing to accept any role the team gives him. "You've got to have an open mind. That's what I'm going to do, and whatever role they're going to give me, I'm going to try to be good at it and try to succeed," Hillis said. Hillis could see time at fullback this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hillis knows he is playing for his next contract and he also has to redeem his status in the view of the NFL after a 2011 pockmarked by questions about his commitment to his team.

CAR - WR Jacoby Jones likely would be No. 2 WR

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Free-agent WR Jacoby Jones (Texans) likely would be the No. 2 wide receiver if he signs with the Carolina Panthers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones never unlocked his potential in Houston, but Carolina seems willing to bet on him. Brandon LaFell would be his main competition for the #2 spot.

SEA - Josh Portis losing snaps

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Eric D. Williams

Seattle Seahawks QB Josh Portis has been losing snaps during offseason workouts because the team wants QB Matt Flynn to get more snaps in order to learn the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Tarvaris Jackson can win the starting job in camp, or if the Seahawks are willing to pay four million dollars to a backup, Portis is probably not making the final roster.

DAL - Danny Coale lines up outside and in slot

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Carlos Mendez

Dallas Cowboys WR Danny Coale was used as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver during practice Friday, May 4. Coale said he is comfortable lining up at either position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coale should be on the fast track to be the #3 wide receiver and backup to both Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. He's an excellent deep dynasty sleeper.

NFL - Former teammate estimates ILB Junior Seau had 1,500 concussions

Source: The Mercury News - Cam Inman

Former NFL MLB Gary Plummer said he thinks the late LB Junior Seau had probably 1,500 concussions in his career. 'In the 1990s, I did a concussion seminar. They said a Grade 3 concussion meant you were knocked out, and a Grade 1 meant you were seeing stars after a hit, which made me burst out in laughter,' Plummer said. 'As a middle linebacker in the NFL, if you don't have five of these (Grade 1 effects) each game, you were inactive the next game. Junior played for 20 years. That's five concussions a game, easily. How many in his career then? That's over 1,500 concussions. I know that's startling, but I know it's true. I had over 1,000 in my 15 years. I felt the effects of it. I felt depression going on throughout my divorce. Junior went through it with his divorce.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see how this story line unfolds. Clearly this is an issue that goes far beyond Junior Seau. But Seau's death will certainly intensify the focus of this. As far as any effect you may see from it, expect the league to continue to be hyper sensitive to concussions and to protecting players. If they wind up in court, they want to be able to point to how they forcefully dealt with offenders who threatened player safety and how strictly they protected players returning from concussions. The cynic in me says this new found concern for player safety is as much about building a legal defense as anything. We'll see.

NYJ - OC not commenting on starting RT

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano would not say if OT Wayne Hunter will start at right tackle this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunter was maybe the worst player at the position in the league last year, and the Jets didn't spend a high pick on a right tackle. The decision will be maligned for all season if Hunter starts and doesn't improve.
