Hi Folks,

Welcome to Friday. I'm not going to say much for fear of putting the jinx on things but the "secret meeting" good vibes continue to roll in regarding a Labor Deal. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, may I suggest in the next item below that a nice Fathers Day gift for yourself would be a Footballguys Subscription? Get yourself something you really want this year!

We've got the news and notes you need so let's get to it. Have a great Friday.

B. Non Football Note - More Mumford and Sons
Lots of emails about my talking about the Mumford and Sons show I caught in Asheville Tuesday night. I love music as much as I love football. For anyone interested, here's a video of how they closed the show. I love the fact a band with a banjo, acoustic guitar and stand up bass can peg the energy level like that and bring 7,500 people along with them. They're a really fun band to see live. They played my favorite Mumford and Sons song - Timshel. video from a London show here. Without getting preachy, I think there's a ton of truth in those words. We're designed for community. Find some brothers you can stand with in whatever it is you're doing in life. Rock on.

TEN - WR Kenny Britt arrested Wednesday

Source: The Jersey Journal - Michaelangelo Conte

Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt was arrested in New Jersey Wednesday, June 8, and charged with two counts of resisting arrest. Britt was issued a summons and allegedly 'did purposely prevent or attempt to prevent a public servant from lawfully performing an official function by means of force or violence, specifically by refusing to open your hand when ordered to do so then pulling your hand away,' according to the complaint. Britt pushed away police officers and pulled his hand away when the officers tried to arrest him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow. Britt is constantly surrounded by trouble, and this is just another offseason incident which the league will not look kindly upon. It wouldn't surprise us to see the league suspend Britt this year for violating the league's code of conduct policy.

MIN - OC not sure if Christian Ponder can start immediately

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Judd Zulgad

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said he is not sure if QB Christian Ponder will be able to start immediately for the team because the lockout has not allowed them to have a normal offense. Musgrave believes that Ponder would play well if he did have to start right away. 'I know that Christian has a broad-based background on offensive football from Florida State, and he'll be able to jump in there and keep his head above water. We'll hope to do a good job and enable him to maintain his confidence and develop and get comfortable at the same time,' Musgrave said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ponder ran a pro style system in college at Florida State, but starting from day one is a lot to ask from a rookie quarterback. The work stoppage will not help his case either as he's not been able to workout at the team's facility and go through the rigors of OTAs. The longer the lockout goes the more likely the team is to add a veteran QB via trade or free agency.

CIN - CB Jones says 'damn him' if Palmer doesn't want to be there

Source: SportsRadioInterviews.com

SportsRadioInterviews.com reports that Bengals CB Adam 'Pacman' Jones was on 102.3 The Ticket in Denver today and had some harsh words when asked about QB Carson Palmer. "If Carson don't want to be here, damn him, period, point blank. I love the city of Cincinnati. His little brother is here working out, which is a good sign. But if you don't want to be here, I don't want you here. I want some guys that want to play and want to win, period, point blank and that's the end of that discussion." Jones said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not a surprise here, and just another sign that Palmer is done as a Bengal. Jones joins RB Cedric Benson in suggesting the team is better off without Palmer. They are ready to move forward with Andy Dalton as their franchise quarterback.

PHI - QB Michael Vick looking to set up more workouts

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jonathan Tamari

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he is planning to get his teammates together within the next few weeks to have more workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully more than two players show up to any of the players only workouts. QB Mike Kafka and WR Jeremy Maclin were the only two players to attend the final workout last week.

TEN - Jake Locker makes appearance at minicamp

Source: The Associated Press

The Tennessee Titans players are attempting to simulate offseason minicamps being missed due to the NFL lockout. QB Jake Locker made an appearance during the 90-minute workout, and he was among 40 players to participate.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Locker is the future of the franchise, but we're unsure if he'll begin the season as the starter. The Titans are likely to add a veteran QB via trade or free agency to start while Locker learns the ropes. We see the rookie seeing the field as the starter some time this year, but it may not happen until later in the season.

TEN - RB Ringer to battle rookie Harper for backup job

Source: John Glennon - The Tennessean

John Glennon, from the Tennessean, reports that in training camp veteran RB Javon Ringer will have to compete against rookie Jamie Harper for the primary backup job behind Chris Johnson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harper is a big back who runs with good determination, leg drive, and balance. He's seen as more of a complementary back behind Chris Johnson because his skill set is so different. The Titans brought in a big back as an undrafted free agent last year to compete with Ringer in LeGarrette Blount. Unfortunately for Tennessee they attempted to sneak Blount through to the practice squad and he was cut. Tampa Bay picked him up and he ran for over 1,000-yards as a rookie. The Titans won't make the same mistake with Harper.

SF - Anthony Dixon happy with Kendall Hunter

Source: San Jose Mercury News - Daniel Brown

San Francisco 49ers RB Anthony Dixon said he was happy with the addition of RB Kendall Hunter during the draft because Hunter will be able the offense perform better. 'When I saw that, it was like, 'Thank, God. We've got more help,' ' Dixon said. 'I know it takes a team to win. I would love to be the workhorse for the offense, but having help is not bad.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon and Hunter would form a RBBC if Frank Gore goes down with an injury this year. We feel Hunter would be the lead back in that scenario because he's more versatile and more dangerous with the ball in his hands. Dixon could be a nice short yardage and goalline back for the 49ers.

NFL - Terrelle Pryor not interested in CFL

Source: ESPN.com

Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor has indicated that he is not interested in playing in the Canadian Football League and is focusing on the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft. The Saskatchewan Roughriders own Pryor's negotiating rights in the CFL.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor wants to play in the NFL but according to some teams are lukewarm at best on the former Buckeyes quarterback. He is big, athletic, and has a strong arm. However, Pryor failed to develop as a passer during his time in college and off field issues are a concern for NFL teams. If he declares for the supplemental draft we can't see any team spending more than a third-round pick on this developmental quarterback.

SF - RB Anthony Dixon would like to be a more complete back

Source: Santa Rosa News Democrat - Phil Barber

San Francisco 49ers RB Anthony Dixon said he would like to become more of an all-around running back and not just a power back. 'I'm focused on being an all-around running back,' Dixon said. 'I want to be able to run inside. Outside. Catch screens. Run routes. Pass protect. Downfield blocking.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon's game is all about building a head of steam and running through arm tackles. He is a big back who is swift and can get to top speed in a hurry in the hole is clear. However, he struggles to change direction and maintain his balance if forced to cut back. The 49ers added Kendall Hunter in the 2011 NFL Draft and he would likely start over Dixon if Frank Gore were to get hurt this year. Dixon would then be used as a short yardage and goalline specialist for the team.

JAX - Blaine Gabbert works out with teammates

Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert was among 28 players who practiced together for the first time at a Jacksonville-area high school Wednesday, June 8. The players had been working out in small groups throughout the area to stay in shape. 'It's been a blast,' Gabbert said. 'It's good to get out here with the guys and have the opportunity to work out a little bit and throw the ball around.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gabbert has a real chance to win the starting job over veteran David Garrard if he performs well in training camp. At the very least we think he'll win the starting job later in the year, especially if the Jaguars are struggling on offense.

CIN - Andy Dalton throws at workout

Source: The Associated Press

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton got to throw passes against the team's defense for the first time at a player-organized practice Wednesday, June 8. It was the first time the offense and defense got together since the lockout. He completed one nice deep throw to WR Jerome Simpson during a scaled-down practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton's the new franchise QB in Cincy and should be the starter for the team from day one. He isn't known to have a strong arm, but is a very smart QB who excels running an offense that features quick, short throws on underneath routes. Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre 'Bubba' Caldwell, and rookie superstar-in-the-making A.J. Green should give Dalton plenty of quality targets to throw to.
