TEN - RB Chris Johnson agrees to terms on new deal

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with RB Chris Johnson on a new four-year deal worth $53.5 million with $30 million in guaranteed money.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Titans and their fans (even the fake ones) here. Those that got Johnson in the middle of the first-round are grinning from ear to ear now. Expect Johnson to get up to speed quickly and be ready for the week one opener. He's a top 3 fantasy RB this year if he can stay healthy.

NO - PK Garrett Hartley out 6-10 weeks

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - James Varney

New Orleans Saints TE Garrett Hartley (hip) will be out at least six week and could be as many as 10 weeks because of a hip pointer.

John Kasay looks to be the beneficiary here. He could be a great value pick if he's flying under the radar for some owners in your league.

NFL - RB Fred Taylor to retire

Source: The Boston Globe - Monique Walker

Free-agent RB Fred Taylor (Patriots) plans to retire as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars Friday, Sept. 2. The team will sign him so that he can retire as a member of the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hats off to Fred Taylor on an excellent career. Cool move for him to retire as a Jaguar. Best wishes to him in whatever is next.

PHI - QB Vince Young injured Thursday

Source: The Associated Press

Philadelphia Eagles QB Vince Young (leg) injured his right leg during the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports are that it's his right hamstring. We'll know more soon.

DEN - QB Kyle Orton preparing for regular season

Source: CBSSports.com

Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton said he's already begun watching film on the Oakland Raiders and will soon begin scouring tape of the Cincinnati Bengals. Those teams represent Denver's first two regular-season opponents.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Orton has fantasy value as a QB2 in most leagues. His fantasy production will be downgraded from last year because of the team's run-first philosophy. There's also a good chance he gets replaced sometimes by Tim Tebow when the team is near the goalline.

SEA - WR Mike Williams missing due to toe ailment

Source: Everett Herald - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks WR Mike X. Williams (toe) was unable to practice Wednesday, Aug. 31, due to a toe injury. It's uncertain if he'll be able to play in the preseason finale Friday, Sept. 2, against the Oakland Raiders.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's verging on WR5 or later afterthought in redraft leagues.

CHI - RB Chester Taylor not expected to make cut

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Sean Jensen

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears RB Chester Taylor likely will be will not make the final 53-man roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears were going to release Taylor earlier this week, but decided to keep him around a little longer. He hasn't been used much in the preseason and has lost his spot on the depth chart to Marion Barber.

SEA - WR Golden Tate likely to make team

Source: ESPN - John Clayton

Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate likely will make the final 53-man roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a sign how Tate is doing in the pros when he's on the roster bubble in the second-year of his career. Even though he flashed good skills at Notre Dame he looks more like a poor man's version of Josh Reed in the pros. We don't expect much from Tate this year unless injuries ravage the depth chart.

WAS - WR Malcolm Kelly clears waivers, on IR

Source: FOXSports.com - Aaron Wilson

Washington Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly (foot) has cleared waivers and is not on the team's Injured Reserve list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just think 'what might have been' when thinking about Malcolm Kelly. He had phenomenal talent coming out of Oklahoma, but injuries derailed his NFL career.

MIA - Daniel Thomas believes he needs more touches

Source: Palm Beach Post - Ben Volin

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas because he is doing a good job picking up the offensive scheme but believes he needs more touches to improve his game. 'I need to get more experience,' Thomas said. 'I need to get more reps. I've got a lot of room for growth. The coaches have said I'm doing a good job picking up the system.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is the type of player who can grind down a defense and gets tougher as the game goes on. Reggie Bush is making a case to lead the team in touches out of the backfield, and that negatively impacts the fantasy value of Thomas.

SF - Kendall Hunter No. 3 on depth chart for now

Source: Sacramento Bee - Matt Barrows

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter is currently the third running back on the depth chart but is competing with RB Anthony Dixon for the No. 2 running back job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

For now is the key term. Dixon is a plodder who looks more like a Fullback than he does a Running Back. Hunter reminds many in the scouting community of a young Brian Westbrook and would likely be the lead back for the 49ers if Frank Gore were to go down with an injury.

CHI - Make offer to RB Matt Forte?

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Contract talks between the Chicago Bears and RB Matt Forte have escalated to the point where the team has extended a contract offer worth in the neighborhood of up to $15 million guaranteed, according to sources. According to NFL sources, the Bears initially used the six-year contract worth $32 million ($10 million guaranteed) signed by Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles as the base line for a potential Forte deal.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The recent contract extension for Frank Gore included $13.5 million guaranteed, so this new offer should get the job done. Forte is a key piece to the Bears offense and is just entering the prime of his career.

STL - WR Mark Clayton on PUP for now

Source: 101ESPN St. Louis - Howard Balzer

St. Louis Rams WR Mark Clayton (knee), who re-signed earlier Wednesday, Aug. 31, is on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list for now. The team will have to make an official decision on his status by Saturday, Sept. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It won't be a shock if the team puts Clayton on the PUP to begin the season, which would cause him to miss the first six games, but that wouldn't mean that you should write off Clayton for the entire year. The Rams wouldn't have signed him if that was the case.
