Hi Folks,

Welcome to Friday.

We've got TONS of new content for our Footballguys Insider Subscribers today to get you more than ready to dominate the poor schmucks that have to face you in the draft. And of course we've got the news and notes you need - thanks to our Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom for the work there as always. Knock yourselves out.

Here's something we've been thinking about. Have you always been a guy that likes Fantasy Football magazines? I am. If you are too, it's highly likely that in your last trip to the bookstore, you couldn't find your favorite magazine as many unfortunately didn't print this year due to the uncertainty of the lockout.

But Footballguys can definitely fill that void.

Of course we have player projections and rankings. If you're looking for something easy to take to your draft, we offer a Top 300 list.

We have plenty of strategy articles, including Upside Down Drafting, Quarterback By Committee, and Ultimate Strength Of Schedule and detailed examinations of players.

Also, like any every magazine, we have a team-by-team overview. Even better, unlike every magazine, ours weren't written in early May. Finally, you know those stat boxes that your favorite magazine has, where each player's stats are viewable on a game-by-game basis? That's right - we have those too. Only ours go back to the 2002 season.

So, if you are missing your favorite magazine this year, please give us a shot at replacing it. We bet you won't miss that magazine at all in 2012.

Enough talk. Let's get to it. Good luck to you guys drafting this weekend, show no mercy.

TEN - RB Chris Johnson not happy with offer

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson received a contract offer during his meeting with general manager Mike Reinfeldt Wednesday, Aug. 24, but was not happy with the offer and has left the Nashville area. Johnson said the two sides are not seeing eye-to-eye at this time. Johnson said he will continue to work out while his agent tries to work with the Titans on a new contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The two sides are still communicating which has to be seen as a positive at this point. However, this contract situation doesn't seem close to ending anytime soon.

IND - WR Reggie Wayne shows support for QB Curtis Painter

Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Indianapolis Colts QB Reggie Wayne would like the team to keep their options open at quarterback should QB Peyton Manning (neck) not be ready to start the season. Wayne showed his support for QB Curtis Painter and did not agree with the team's decision to sign QB Kerry Collins. 'I don't want to make it seem like I'm not welcoming or having open arms to anybody that comes to our organization,' Wayne said. 'If they open the doors for Kerry Collins to come, then that's fine. I can't do (anything) about that anyways. But I'll be damned if we're going to open the doors for someone else, and just drop our heads on who we already have. The Colts are big on protecting their own, so I'm (going to) help protect our own.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow, Reggie - tell us how you really feel. He's fired up about the QB situation, but it's too bad Painter isn't fired up as much. Painter and Dan Orlovsky have both looked really bad this preseason.

PHI - QB Vince Young in battle for No. 2 QB job

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Paul Domowitch

Philadelphia Eagles QB Vince Young is in a battle for the team's backup quarterback job with QB Mike Kafka. In fact, Kafka may be ahead in the competition. While Young has struggled grasping the team's offense, Kafka has a 99.9 passer rating in the preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Young will take some time to adapt to the complex system run by Andy Reid. Kafka has a leg up in this competition but does not have the raw athleticism or upside of Young.

TEN - RB Javon Ringer still not practicing

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB Javon Ringer (hip) was unable to practice again Wednesday, Aug. 24. Head coach Mike Munchak said Ringer is questionable to play Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Chicago Bears.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is making Jamie Harper look good as a deep sleeper to get considerable touches early in the season. If Chris Johnson's holdout extends into the season, Harper would split time with Ringer until CJ2K signed, but Harper has been very impressive could be the more productive back in that scenario.

DET - RB Jahvid Best unlikely to play in preseason game

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (head) is unlikely to play in the team's upcoming preseason game after suffering a concussion last week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though the third week of the preseason is the dress rehearsal for the regular season the Lions want to be safe with Best. They'll wait to use him until the regular season and we'll see more from Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell in Best's absence.

TEN - QB Matt Hasselbeck back at practice

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck (tongue) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 24. He said his tongue was still hurting after he bit hard enough to draw blood after a hit during the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the St. Louis Rams.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hasselbeck looks old when he gets hit. He is stiff and goes down hard. We might be seeing Jake Locker sooner than expected this season.

SF - Will meet with RB Frank Gore

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to meet with RB Frank Gore and his agent Monday, Aug. 29, to see if the two sides can get closer to an agreement on a new contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon could become a lot less interesting in dynasty leagues if the two sides can find a middle ground. We think Gore will ask for DeAngelo Williams money, so gamble on no extension happening.

BUF - Want to sign Stevie Johnson to extension

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Joe Buscaglia

The Buffalo Bills plan to turn their attention to WR Stevie Johnson and work out a long-term extension with him soon. Johnson is in the final year of his contract. He had 82 receptions for 1,073 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson has come a long way in a short time. He is the Bills #1 receiver by far and they need to lock him up long term.

BUF - RB Fred Jackson to start third preseason game

Source: The Buffalo News - Rodney McKissic

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson will start at tailback in the team's third preseason game. He has voiced concern over not starting in the previous game and has let it be known that he is not happy with his lack of first-string reps he has received in practice recently. 'Who wouldn't want to be a No. 1 back? The big thing is that everyone is making a big deal about it. The thing about me and Fred is that we're pushing each other to get better,' RB C.J. Spiller said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson's ADP took a little hit with the news that the Bills might prefer CJ Spiller, but he is still probably the better Bills back to draft this year.

WAS - Roy Helu making big steps in right direction

Source: Fredericksburg.com - Zac Boyer

Washington Redskins rookie RB Roy Helu Jr. looked indecisive and unsteady running the ball in the team's first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That, however, changed in team's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Helu showed big signs in that game of the player the Redskins hope he will be for them. He finished the second preseason game with 14 carries for 101 yards. 'He took as big of a jump as anyone from the first week to the second week. We knew he was talented. He had runs like that at Nebraska. But after that first game, you really could see that week in practice that his mindset changed. You could tell that first game he was a little bit nervous, and you could tell afterward that he knew he could play in this league. He was running hard and physical and running through tackles. And you know he's got the speed, so if he's confident, expect him to see more games like that,' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said. It is not clear what role Helu will play in the team's third preseason game, but his roster spot and a role in the rotation appear guaranteed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Helu had a lot of buzz after the draft, but now he is available very late in redraft leagues. Tim Hightower has fumble issues and we all know how fickle Mike Shanahan can be. Helu is a great late flier.

GB - RB James Starks ready for a much bigger role?

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tyler Dunne

Green Bay Packers second-year RB James Starks has looked better this summer. He is running with more power and is more decisive with his movement. He is showing better patience, exploding through holes and has not disappointed. The team's third preseason game will be vital for Starks because he needs to gain the trust of the coaching staff with his in-game play. The team has not named their starting tailback, and head coach Mike McCarthy has repeated the team will use multiple backs this season. A strong preseason game from Starks, however, could go a long way in dictating the playing time levels.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Starks is the best GB back to draft this year because he is going rounds after Grant, but the best move overall might be to just stay away from this situation.

GB - RB Ryan Grant may be insurance policy

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tyler Dunne

Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant has had an OK training camp. He hasn't been bad, but he also hasn't been great. He is in tip-top shape and his surgically repaired ankle is fine. He has also averaged 4.5 yards per carry during limited carries in the first two preseason games. By taking a lesser paycheck recently, Grant's pay cut may point to RB James Starks being the superior back this summer; and Grant may have had to take the restructured deal to stay with the team. If the team goes with Starks, they would have a comfort level in knowing Grant is there as an insurance policy. Grant is considered a grinder, who becomes better with more carries and the team would have the comfort of knowing they could fall back on him if Starks suffered an injury or couldn't handle the increased role.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Regardless of who starts we feel the team could split the carries fairly evenly between Starks and Grant. The Packers could use a 'hot hand' approach when it comes to splitting touches between the two.

OAK - Hue Jackson has praise for Taiwan Jones

Source: CBSSports.com

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson credited RB Taiwan Jones for not only his blazing speed but his physical running style. 'God, can this guy run,' Jackson said. 'He's extremely fast, but he's very nimble and very smooth. For a guy that's built like he is (195 pounds), he's very physical.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is crazy fast and can change direction without losing much speed. While not the biggest back, he is a willing inside runner. Jones gives the Raiders another weapon at the RB position and could be used effectively on screen passes and toss plays.

CHI - WR Johnny Knox working hard to regain spot

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Sean Jensen

Chicago Bears WR Johnny Knox continues to work hard to re-gain his starting job from WR Roy Williams. 'He and I talked about that. And the good thing about it is, you got (Knox) who is fighting and working hard,' receivers coach Darryl Drake said. And believe you and me, (Williams) also understands Johnny is there, and Johnny is hungry, and Johnny wants his spot back. And if things don't start changing, then Johnny is going to be in there.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Knox is going to be better for having been demoted this summer. He is worth a pick as your WR5 or WR6, especially in non-PPR leagues.

CHI - WR Roy Williams in danger of losing starting job

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Sean Jensen

Chicago Bears WR Roy Williams is in danger of losing his starting job if he doesn't show improvement soon, according to receivers coach Darryl Drake. 'I understand that Roy's got some things to do, as far as getting in shape, but that's not my fault, and that's not my concern,' Drake said. 'My concern is making sure, when we play Atlanta (in Week 1), we got the best guys out there, that is going to give us the best chance to win. And if (WR Johnny Knox) is that guy, then he needs to be out there.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The bigger story was that Williams was in danger of starting a few weeks ago. Johnny Knox has had a good camp and preseason and those that stuck by him in fantasy leagues should be rewarded.

PIT - No contract extension for S Troy Polamalu

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu will not receive a contract extension this upcoming season, according to a team source. The team is not spending more money after locking up LB Lawrence Timmons to an extension. Polamalu said he wants to retire as a member of the Steelers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect Polamalu to retire as a member of the Steelers. The team could franchise him next year while they work out a long-term deal with him.
