HOU - Texans to sign RB Derrick Ward 19. SEA - WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh not worried about trade talk Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN Seattle Seahawks WR Mike X. Williams could start in Week 1 likely opposite WR Deion Branch, reports Adam Schefter, of ESPN. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Another reminder that we should never completely give up on any player. Mike Williams is an excellent upside flier after the 10th round. SEA - Seahawks will move WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN The Seattle Seahawks will release WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh if they are not able to trade him, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Seahawks are liable to pay whatever his team does not this season. He is guaranteed to make $7 million this season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The best case scenario is for Houshmandzadeh to get picked up by Washington, Minnesota, or San Diego after he gets cut, because no one is going to pick up the seven million dollar price tag for his this year. CLE - RB Montario Hardesty suffered torn ACL in preseason finale Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the team’s preseason finale and he will be out for the season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jerome Harrison moves higher into RB3 territory in fantasy drafts, but Peyton Hillis could be the big winner here as he has ran with the first team at times and looked good doing it during camp. Harrison had a fumble problem in the preseason and the coaches seemed reluctant to make him the starter. James Davis could also play a bigger role in this backfield with Hardesty out for the season. PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger to serve four-game suspension Source: Jason LaCanfora - NFL Network Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has been suspended for four games, according to Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Roethlisberger is an even bigger value now after the 10th round. This is also good news for Hines Ward, Rashard Mendenhall, Mike Wallace, and Heath Miller. OAK - QB Jason Campbell says he will be ready for Week 1 Source: CBSSports.com Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell (wrist, stinger) says he will be ready for Week 1, according to CBSSports.com. Campbell, however, would not comment on how he is currently feeling. 'Right now I can't talk about the injuries or anything, but come the Tennessee game, I'll be ready,' Campbell said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news for Raiders fans and Campbell owners. HOU - PK Neil Rackers wins kicking battle Source: John McClain - The Houston Chronicle Houston Texans PK Neil Rackers has won the team’s kicking job over PK Kris Brown, according to John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kris Brown was the last member on the Texans squad from the original team, and now he'll have to look elsewhere for work in the NFL. NYG - RB Brandon Jacobs upset over role Source: Jane McManus - ESPNNewYork.com New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs was in a sour mood following the team’s preseason finale after he did not receive a single carry, according to Jane McManus, of ESPNNewYork.com. RB Ahmad Bradshaw was the official starting running back in the game. Jacobs said football was a brutal business. 'No question,' Jacobs said. 'To be in this business, you have to know that. No one's your friend in this business. This is a cutthroat, backstabbing business. That's just the way it goes. It's been like that before me. If you expect anything else out of a business like this, you're crazy.' Jacobs said it's too early to ask for a trade. There isn't anything that can be done with the season about to start, and the situation could work itself out. In the meantime, Jacobs said he would work hard and stay ready for the moments when his number is called. 'It's almost hard to stay positive in a situation like this, but that's what I've got to do,' Jacobs said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Perhaps getting a chip on his shoulder will help Jacobs play better in a limited role. Ahmad Bradshaw is the lead back for the Giants, and is a threat to score every time he touches the football. The Giants will use a RBBC in 2010, but Bradshaw should get a majority of the touches because he's the better running back right now. NE - RB Laurence Maroney dealing with assortment of ailments Source: Monique Walker - The Boston Globe New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney (abdomen, groin, ankle) has been dealing with a number of issues, including an abdominal strain and groin and ankle injuries, reports Monique Walker, of The Boston Globe, according to a league source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Maroney seems to be perpetually banged up so this report is nothing new. We'll see if the Patriots decide to keep him around on the final roster. NE - WR Wes Welker admits he’s still not 100 percent Source: Albert Breer - The Boston Globe New England Patriots WR Wes Welker (knee) is ready for Week 1; however, he still feels he’s not yet at the same form he was last season when he caught 123 passes, according to Albert Breer, of The Boston Globe. 'I still feel like I’m a long ways off from that personally,' Welker said. 'People say it looks the same. I don’t feel the same. So I’m not gonna put a number on myself.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Leave it to Welker to bring folks back to earth a bit. He's as tough as they come, but he's human. NE - RB Laurence Maroney works with backups Source: AP New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney finally saw extended playing time Thursday, Sept. 2, during the team's preseason finale. Working with the backup offense, Maroney rushed nine times for a team-high 32 yards. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Maroney is going to play a big role in the Pats backfield, we haven't seen evidence of it yet. Don't draft him, but be ready to pounce on the waiver wire when Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris begin to look their age. NE - RB Fred Taylor works with starters Source: AP New England Patriots RB Fred Taylor worked with the first-string offense during the team's preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 2. He rushed for five yards on four carries during the game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Taylor seems to be the Patriots back to own early on, even if he is likely to yield his #1 RB spot because of injury eventually. JAX - RB Maurice Jones-Drew says he feels great Source: AP Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew (knee) said he feels great and cannot wait to get back out on the field against the Denver Broncos during Week 1, reports The Associated Press. He has missed five consecutive practices. He said he will be back doing everything he needs to do Monday, Sept. 6, to prepare for Week 1. He also called the false report about him having surgery 'a big mess over nothing.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We understand if you take Ray Rice or Frank Gore over MJD because the knee talk worries you, but he probably shouldn't fall out of the top five picks. OAK - RB Michael Bush could be out for a while Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers Updating a previous item, Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush (thumb) is highly unlikely to be ready to play Week 1 and could miss up to four games or more, speculates Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers. According to orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Schwartz, a time span of four to six weeks following surgery would be a “best case scenario,” but he added he was speaking in general terms and did not know the specifics of Bush’s injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Darren McFadden will get a chance to grab the running back job in Oakland during September, but he could also get hurt and leave Michael Bennett or Rock Cartwright as the most surprising starting RB in the league. McDonald's take on Bush's injury is much more realistic than Tom Cable's. DEN - RB LenDale White to miss season Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN Denver Broncos RB LenDale White (Achilles') will miss the entire 2010 season because of a torn Achilles' tendon, reports Adam Schefter, of ESPN. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Broncos brought in LenDale White because of his nose for the end zone as they were hoping to use him in short yardage and goalline situations. Instead, he'll miss the season with an Achilles' injury. We wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos picked up another back via trade or the waiver wire as they set their final 53-man roster. Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN The New Orleans Saints have released RB Ladell Betts, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chris Ivory is looking like a great deep dynasty stash right now. STL - QB A.J. Feeley would like to practice Monday Source: Jim Thomas -The St. Louis Post-Dispatch St. Louis Rams QB A.J. Feeley (thumb) said he would like to participate in practice Monday, Sept. 6, but is not sure if can take a snap under center, reports Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Feeley era was over before it began in St. Louis. Sam Bradford looks more than ready to start for the Rams. MIN - Vikings not likely interested in WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh Source: Judd Zulgad - The Minneapolis Star Tribune The Minnesota Vikings appear unlikely to pursue Seattle Seahawks WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh should he be released, reports Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, citing league sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Somewhat interesting given the shifting WR corps in Minnesota. HOU - Texans to sign RB Derrick Ward Source: John McClain - The Houston Chronicle The Houston Texans plan on signing free-agent RB Derrick Ward (Buccaneers), according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ward should be the backup to Arian Foster right away, and with Steve Slaton's fumble problems, he might remain the backup all year. He has potential value in a Houston backfield that has been a revolving door since the days of Domanick Davis. SEA - WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh not worried about trade talk Source: Danny O'Neil - The Seattle Times Seattle Seahawks WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, when asked about the rumors that he is on the trading block, said he does not care and it is out of his control, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. 'I could care less. It doesn't bother me. I knew (about the trade rumors) before y'all knew. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't,' Houshmandzadeh said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] And when Housh says "it doesn't bother me", what he means is "it really bothers me and I don't know why I don't get the respect a great receiver deserves". He's on the steep decline and we don't recommend drafting him before the 11th or 12th round. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great Saturday. See you tomorrow with the update. JoeOur FREE daily email is packed with all the fantasy analysis you need.
