PIT - QB Byron Leftwich injures knee Thursday

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Updating a previous item, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (knee) left the team's preseason game Thursday, Sept. 2, with a left knee injury, reports ESPN.com. He was taken to an area hospital to undergo an MRI exam, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Expect to see Dennis Dixon starting week 1, and maybe for as long as Ben Roethlisberger is suspended. Charlie Batch is also unlikely to get traded or released in the wake of this injury.

CLE - RB Montario Hardesty injures knee Thursday

Source: AP

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (knee) left the team's preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 2, with a left knee injury, reports The Associated Press. Hardesty was examined by the team's medical staff on a trainer's table before taking him to the locker room. The team said he is questionable to return to the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jerome Harrison will open the season as the starter even though he hasn't exactly seized the job. Watch out for Peyton Hillis, as he might end up being the best option in this backfield.

SEA - WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh on the trade block

Source: Jason LaCanfora - NFL Network

The Seattle Seahawks are shopping WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, reports NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora. It's unlikely anyone will take Houshmandzadeh, who is guaranteed to make more than $7 million this year, but he is available.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Houshmandzadeh has been a disappointment since coming over from the Cincinnati Bengals but might have to end up sticking in Seattle this year because of the size of his contract. If he can stay healthy then he should have better production this year, but his skills are on the decline.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant feeling better

Source: Calvin Watkins - ESPNDallas.com

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (ankle) felt better after a full practice Tuesday, Aug. 31, in which he ran at full speed and made cuts on his right ankle, according to ESPNDallas.com's Calvin Watkins. 'I thought he did some good things,' wide receivers coach Ray Sherman said. 'He went through special teams. He went through drills with me. Then he came out and ran some plays with the offense. I thought he looked very good. He's ready to go.' However, he is still unlikely to play in the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant is a hyper competitive guy, and wants to play in the final preseason game but the team feels there's no need to get him in the lineup. They are saving their star rookie receiver for the regular season.

DEN - RB Knowshon Moreno expected to play Week 1

Source: Mike Klis - The Denver Post

Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) is only 80 percent healthy right now, reports Mike Klis, of The Denver Post. He is expected to play in Week 1, but how much and how well remains to be seen.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Everything about this feels like a "wait and see" situation in fantasy leagues. Don't put Moreno in your week 1 lineup unless you absolutely have to.

NYJ - WR Santonio Holmes not banned from facility during suspension

Source: Aaron Wilson - NationalFootballPost.com

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes is not banned from the team's headquarters while serving a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Holmes cannot participate in practice, but is free to work out and train at the Jets' facility. Plus, the veteran receiver is allowed to attend team meetings. This could help prevent Holmes from getting off to a slow start when he comes back from his suspension.

OAK - Raiders deny interest in QB Matt Leinart

Source: Raiders.com

Updating a previous item, the Oakland Raiders have denied reports that they have discussed trading for Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart, reports Raiders.com. The statement said, “ESPN's Adam Schefter is once again making untrue statements about The Oakland Raiders, this time regarding Matt Leinart. The Raiders have never discussed trading for Leinart.”

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Al Davis being Al Davis. Schefter reported Art Shell would be fired back in 2006, and Davis called him a "rumor monger" with "an anti-Raider bias". Shell got fired anyway. Schefter could report that the Raiders were going to wear Silver and Black next week and Davis would say it was a lie. Bottom line is don't believe anything you see from Al Davis in general. And especially anything Davis says about Adam Schefter's articles. But listen to everything Schefter says.

OAK - RB Michael Bush could be out for a while

Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers

Updating a previous item, Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush (thumb) is highly unlikely to be ready to play Week 1 and could miss up to four games or more, speculates Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers. According to orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Schwartz, a time span of four to six weeks following surgery would be a “best case scenario,” but he added he was speaking in general terms and did not know the specifics of Bush's injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darren McFadden will get a chance to grab the running back job in Oakland during September, but he could also get hurt and leave Michael Bennett or Rock Cartwright as the most surprising starting RB in the league. McDonald's take on Bush's injury is much more realistic than Tom Cable's.

OAK - Tom Cable predicts playoffs

Source: Aaron Wilson - NationalFootballPost.com

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable is so encouraged about the team's upgrades heading into the upcoming season that he believes the team will make the playoffs, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. 'I actually believe that's where we are headed, there's no doubt,' Cable said. 'When I look at us as a football team, our biggest opponent is us. That's our goal right now, that's our purpose, to take care of us. How we handle things, from penalties to discipline to tackling to finishing to being on times, will write the script for what we are this year. Thirty-two of us are similar right now. We feel good about ourselves right now.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We see the AFC West as a one team race, as it's highly unlikely a wild card team will emerge from that division. The Raiders could be in the mix for the division title with San Diego and Denver.

DEF - WAS - DE Albert Haynesworth could sit Week 1

Source: Jason LaCanfora - NFL Network

Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth should see plenty of playing time in the team's fourth preseason game Thursday, Sept. 2, but he is still far from assured a starting spot for Week 1, reports NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, according to a source. There is also a chance Haynesworth could be deactivated for Week 1 as head coach Mike Shanahan sorts through the feud the two have had this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you're going to roll the dice with Haynesworth, be prepared for this kind of thing...
