SITE NEWS

A. 2009 Footballguys Strategy Guide Magazine - For FREE
All the fantasy magazines you see on the newsstand in July were written in June. They all cost $7 or more. I've got two questions: #1. Would you like to read that magazine now? #2. Would you like it for FREE? If you answered, yes, Footballguys has you covered. We've changed the game this year making our 2009 Footballguys Strategy Guide magazine available to everyone with internet access. You don't have to be a paying Footballguys subscriber. If you can get online, you can get our Magazine. It's 100% FREE. Call it our "Footballguys Stimulus Package". Enjoy.

B. Footballguys Rate My Team Application
Does your team suck? Check out the Footballguys Rate My Team Application and we'll try to help answer that question. I'm betting that if you're reading these emails in June, your team most certainly does not suck. But check out the new App and see what you think. It takes 30 seconds to enter your team with some clicks and then you'll receive a seriously comprehensive report letting you know what we think your team's strengths are, and more importantly, where it can be improved. I know I hype lots of stuff we do. But seriously, if you were going to just check out ONE thing we did at Footballguys. The Rate My Team App would be it.

TB - Goal is to let QB Josh Freeman sit and develop

Source: Rick Stroud, from the St. Petersburg Times

Rick Stroud, from the St. Petersburg Times, reports that if Bucs GM Mark Dominik has his way, rookie Josh Freeman will not be the starting quarterback this season. Not right away, at least. "The ultimate goal is to let Josh Freeman sit back and learn," Dominik said Saturday.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Recently quarterbacks coach Greg Olson suggested that Freeman might begin the season as the Bucs' starting quarterback. Dominik hasn't completely ruled it out, but it's clear the plan is not to rush Freeman into the huddle. Dominik said of Freeman. "You'd like for him to grow and mature into his role and not be forced into it." The Bucs should take it slow with their QB of the future, but if Byron Leftwich and Luke McCown continue to struggle we may see the rookie forced into action ahead of schedule.

NE - Patriots reportedly not interested in QB Mike Vick

Source: Michael Lombardi, National Football Post

Sources tell Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post that one team that won't be interested is the New England Patriots. Many have felt that Vick might be an option in New England, but Lombardi says he's told that the scheme and the lack of potential to become an eventual starter aren't suitable to him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

New England has a history of taking troubled players and turning them around but it did seem that Vick would have been a stretch in this system.

TB - No interest in WR Plaxico Burress at this time

Source: Rick Stroud, The St. Petersburg Times

Rick Stroud, from the St. Petersburg Times, reports Bucs GM Mark Dominik indicated the team has no interest in signing former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress at this time. The Bucs are looking for receviers to back up starters Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

"We're going to let Brian Clark, Maurice Stovall and even Dexter Jackson compete and go from there," Dominik said. He left out the star of minicamp, rookie WR Sammie Stroughter. Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Burress, has stated that 5 teams are interested in the troubled WR. It's been speculated that Tampa was one of those teams, but GMs are worried about his upcoming legal case. His sentencing could be moved back until after the regular season, and thus his suspension wouldn't happen until next year. It seems that Burress could sign a 1-year deal and play the entire season at this point.

KC - Rookie RB Javarris Williams still adjusting to the playbook

Source: Mike Organ, The Nashville Tennessean

Mike Organ, from the Nashville Tennessean, reports Chiefs rookie Javarris Williams is finding that one of the biggest challenges is learning an NFL playbook, a feat that feels a little like trying to memorize a phone book.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coming out of Tennessee State Williams was known as a power RB that did most of his damage between the tackles. He's unproven as a receiver out of the backfield and will have to have a great training camp just to make the final roster. If the Chiefs like what they see he could earn a spot to develop on their practice squad.

GB - WR Ruvell Martin remains front-runner for No. 5 WR job

Source: Pete Dougherty, The Green Bay Press-Gazette

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers WR Ruvell Martin remains the front-runner for the No. 5 wide receiver job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ruvell Martin has stayed with the Packers after originally being on the Chargers roster and playing in NFL Europe. Martin has been productive in his limited opportunities and was even listed as the Packers 3rd string QB due to his experience playing the position (he was a former high school QB). The Packers have one of the best and deepest WR corps in the league. If Martin was on another team he may be listed as high as the 3rd receiver on the depth chart, but in Green Bay he's quality veteran insurance behind Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, and James Jones.

GB - QB Matt Flynn in the lead for backup job

Source: Pete Dougherty, The Green Bay Press-Gazette

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn is well ahead of QB Brian Brohm for the backup quarterback position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brian Brohm hasn't been the same player since he was running Bobby Petrino's offense at Louisville. He struggled his senior season, when Petrino moved on to the Falcons, and he's been a disappointment so far in Green Bay. Matt Flynn is an average QB, so a player with Brohm's pedigree should easily be able to surpass him on the depth chart. However, at this time it appears as though Brohm will continue to be the #3 when the regular season starts.

GB - FB Korey Hall working with starters

Source: Pete Dougherty, The Green Bay Press-Gazette

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers FB Korey Hall worked with the team's starters this offseason.

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers C Scott Wells' roster spot could be in jeopardy

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wells will need to compete for the starting center job, but he will have a difficult time after missing all offseason recovering from major shoulder surgery. OL Duke Preston and OL Tony Moll are both capable of backing up multiple positions along the offensive line, which could leave Wells out of a spot on the team.

OAK - QB JaMarcus Russell's Work Ethic Questioned

Source: Michael Lombardi, National Football Post

Michael Lombardi, of the National Football Post reports that the work ethic of quarterback JaMarcus Russell is still being questioned by many who have worked with him in the past and are working with him now. After he issued a call to his teammates to practice and finish the OTA days strong, he then disappeared and was AWOL on the last day.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Talk is cheap. It was nice to hear Russell sound like the guy. We want to see him be the guy. Count me as one that is still extremely leery that he has what it takes at this level to succeed. His physical talents are without question. But it takes a lot more than physical talent here. We'll see.
