CIN - QB Carson Palmer and WR Chad Ochocinco getting closer

Source: Geoff Hobson, Bengals.com

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, reports that Chad Ochocinco spoke with Carson Palmer on the phone Monday for about 40-45 minutes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

"I know people are trying to say we're mad at each other and all that, but we're good," he said. "We're like Brokeback Mountain. I'm going to be with Carson so much in July that I'm going to be the nanny (for his new twins)."

BAL - RB Willis McGahee says knee not affecting him

Source: Jamison Hensley, The Baltimore Sun

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) said his knee has not affected his workouts this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McGahee had offseason arthroscopic knee surgery and has been running mostly with the 2nd team behind Ray Rice. McGahee said he didn't expect to move past Rice immediately. "It wouldn't be right," McGahee said Tuesday during the final minicamp for veterans. "I don't mind. Work is work. That's either with the first, second or third."

He did sound confident about his knee: 'I don't feel anything in my knee. It was just getting it stronger and ready to break long runs and make great blocks,' McGahee said.

KC - WR Dwayne Bowe getting serious

Source: Kent Babb, The Kansas City Star

Kent Babb, of the Kansas City Star, reports that Dwayne Bowe is a lot more serious and wants to show new head coach Todd Haley that he's committed.

"I'm older now," Bowe, 24, explained. "This is my third year, a critical year. I want to be more serious and not even give him any reason to think I'm joking around."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Haley's offenses are always stat-friendly for the wide receiver - just look at what Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Terrell Owens have done under his tutelage. If Bowe is truly devoting himself to his craft, he could make the leap to the fantasy elite this season.

Haley sounds like he means business. "We want guys that are pretty serious about football," Haley said. "That when it doesn't go right that they're as upset as the coaches are, or their teammates are; that they're not guys that, when it doesn't go right, they go, ‘Oh, well, let's move on.' It's just part of trying to change the way everybody's thinking.

"We're not interested in a lot of distractions. I don't believe that's the way you win football games: by distracting yourself with a lot of other things."

BAL - RB Ray Rice working with starters

Source: Jamison Hensley, The Baltimore Sun

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice has been running with the first-string offense because RB Willis McGahee (knee) has been limited most of the offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ray Rice has a shot to remain the starting RB for the Ravens this year, and if he reaches his potential as a player he has Curtis Martin-like ability. Rice has playmaking ability and toughness when running between the tackles. Throughout his entire playing career he has consistently played bigger than his size, and has the type of stamina to stay strong as the game wears on. How the Baltimore RBs shake out is one of the bigger questions we're watching this summer.

Willis McGahee didn't seem overly concerned and said he didn't expect to overtake Rice immediately. "It wouldn't be right," McGahee said Tuesday during the final minicamp for veterans. "I don't mind. Work is work. That's either with the first, second or third."

NYJ - HC Ryan: 'Quarterback competition will be fierce'

Source: Rich Cimini, The New York Daily News

Rich Cimini, of The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the quarterback competition is going to be 'fierce.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

QB Kellen Clemens continued to work with the first team Tuesday, June 9, and outperformed rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has the stronger arm, and was throwing lasers in a one-on-one drill, but he has to avoid mistakes. He threw an interception during 7-on-7 drills, which was returned for a touchdown. Ryan wants Sanchez to also improve his voice, as he wants Sanchez to be louder and more inflective with his cadence.

SF - Team wants to take advantage of TE Vernon Davis' speed

Source: Matt Maiocco, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat

Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye said he wants to utilize TE Vernon Davis' vertical speed to create problems for defenses.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He wants his contributions in the passing game to come as a receiver - not a blocker. 'He's also an excellent in-line blocker,' Raye said, 'but we would like to use him not as much in blocking in pass situations as we would running routes. So we would like to put him in positions where he is a matchup problem for the defense...provided the protection that we have will allow us to do that.'

DEN - RB Ryan Torain unsure if he will be ready for camp

Source: Mike Klis, The Denver Post

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos RB Ryan Torain (knee) said he does not know if he will be ready to participate in practice by the start of training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

'No timetable. The knee feels good, though,' Torain said. He did participate in wind sprints during practice Monday, June 8. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Torain start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

DEN - FB Peyton Hillis likely will be used in different ways

Source: Jim Armstrong, The Denver Post

Jim Armstrong, of The Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos likely will use FB Peyton Hillis in several ways this season so they can use his different skills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

'We're going to use every skill he has. He does a lot of things well. He can run the ball as a single back or he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He can block in two-back sets or he can split out wide. He's got great hands and he's a very tough runner to bring down when you give him the ball. So he'll do a lot of different things for us,' head coach Josh McDaniels said.

DEN - Ex-Pat WR Jabar Gaffney comfortable with McDaniels System

Source: Associated Press

The Associated Press reports that Broncos WR Jabar Gaffney drew praise from head coach Josh McDaniels for his mastery of the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McDaniels said Gaffney can "play really anywhere" and that he "knows everything". He might not put up strong enough numbers to be relevant for fantasy, but the team could use him a lot early in the season as everyone gets adjusted to the new offense.

BAL - TE Quinn Sypniewski does not have timetable for return

Source: Edward Lee, The Baltimore Sun

Edward Lee, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens TE Quinn Sypniewski (knee) said he does not know when he will be able to return to the field.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

'Right now, it's all kind of up in the air. Just depends on how well everything takes and settles. I'm just waiting to see. I'm going back to the doctor every three weeks to get new x-rays and new images and see how everything is fitting back together. I definitely expect to play this season. Whether or not I do the entire camp or a little bit of camp, it just depends on how fast I can move along. Whenever [trainer Bill Tessendorf] says I'm good to go and my doctor says I'm good to go, I'm going to be back out there,' Sypniewski said.

BAL - WR Derrick Mason says there is no timetable for his return

Source: Jamison Hensley, The Baltimore Sun

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens WR Derrick Mason (shoulder) said there is no timetable for his return to the field.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mason said he is optimistic he will be able to play when it's time to play. He did note he would be ready for the regular-season opener.

BAL - TE Todd Heap returns to practice

Source: Jamison Hensley, The Baltimore Sun

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens TE Todd Heap (back) was able to practice fully Tuesday, June 9, after being limited most of the offseason by a back injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He said he feels like he is improving each day. 'I feel like I ran some pretty good routes,' Heap said. He believes he will be ready for training camp.

DAL - RB Tashard Choice practices in Wildcat formation Tuesday

Source: Tim MacMahon, The Dallas Morning News

Tim MacMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys RB Tashard Choice lined up behind center in the shotgun when the team practiced the Wildcat formation during practice Tuesday, June 9.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Choice, who began his college career at Oklahoma, ran in a similar offense during his time at Georgia Tech. He shows great instinct and field vision when running the football so this new wrinkle in his game makes a lot of sense. Tashard Choice also threw one pass in college, which happened to go for 17 yards and a TD.

NYJ - RB Leon Washington could hold out of training camp if new deal isn't in place

Source: Rich Cimini, The New York Daily News

Rich Cimini, of The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets RB Leon Washington strongly hinted he won't show up for training camp if his contract situation isn't taken care of.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He is set to make $535,000 this year. He wants to be paid 'fair-market value.' While he said he wasn't angry or frustrated, when Cimini asked him if he would be a camp holdout if negotiations were still dragging, Washington said: 'You figure it out.'

HOU - TE Owen Daniels skips workout Tuesday

Source: Megan Manfull, The Houston Chronicle

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels, who had participated in the first three weeks of organized activities, did not show up to the team's voluntary workout Tuesday, June 9, because of a contract dispute.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Daniels is a restricted free agent. He has yet to sign the one-year, $2.7 million tender that he was offered. His agent, Alan Herman, has been working with the Texans on a long-term deal. 'What's important for us is that we are talking,' general manager Rick Smith said. 'Owen is an important part of our team, one of our core players.'
