![]() The Secret to Success
(In Fantasy Football and Relationships) We weren't the first Fantasy Football League. That honor goes to the guys in the early 70's in the Oakland area. But we were right on their heels the following year. So, for over 35 years there has been a winning formula for us. It's called Balance and Luck. Your team must have the right balance otherwise a losing season is in the cards. And you must, above all, get lucky. Speaking of getting lucky, if you get one of our real roses preserved in 24kt gold or platinum and imprint on the petals those words that are tough for us guys to say like, "I love you," "Will you marry me?" or even "I'm sorry," you will create balance between her and your Fantasy Football season. Heck, you might even get "lucky." To order your custom imprinted rose, visit us at www.loveisarose.com or call Sid Fey at 630-668-6607. For a great FootballGuys special freebie use the Code 511FBG in the message box and we will add her birthstone to the rose petal at no extra charge. Good luck this season and be nice to her, she's about to become a football widow. |

PIT - HC Tomlin says RB Willie Parker is the team's feature back
Source: Kevin Gorman - The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Kevin Gorman, of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said RB Willie Parker is the team's feature running back. 'Willie Parker's our runner. Rashard's (Mendenhall) done a nice job and he's going to get an opportunity to get his touches, but more important than anything else, Willie Parker is our runner,' Tomlin said. He made it clear he has no plans to rotate the two during games.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We hope you were able to get him in the fifth or sixth round before this unequivocal statement of the team's commitment to Parker. Mendenhall is also falling to the eleventh round or later, so you can lock up the Super Bowl champs running game for a reasonable price - just make sure to pick up Mewelde Moore if one of them goes down.
Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the Oakland Raiders have released QB Jeff Garcia.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Garcia still thinks he's better than he really is, and the Raiders must not have wanted him to be a distraction if starter JaMarcus Russell struggles. Other teams might take a look at him, but he may have to wait to get picked up until injuries strike later in the season.
CLE - RB Jamal Lewis stays on roster
Source: Adam Schefter - ESPN
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports Cleveland Browns RB Jamal Lewis survived being on the bubble and remains with the Browns after they cut their roster down.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We still think that if the talk of Lewis getting cut scared you out of drafting him the last few days, you'll eventually be happy he's not on your team. If you must have a Browns RB on your roster, make sure it's rookie James Davis. He has flashed big time playmaking ability this preseason, and can be effectively used as a receiver out of the backfield.
Source: Jaguars.com
Jaguars.com reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded QB Luke McCown to the Jacksonville Jaguars for an undisclosed draft choice.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tampa Bay had been looking to trade McCown after Byron Leftwich was named the starter. This move makes it more likely that rookie Josh Freeman will see the starting lineup in 2009. McCown will now be the backup behind David Garrard, and shouldn't see the field unless Garrard is injured.
KC - ILB Zach Thomas, Ashley WR Ashley Lelie amongst players released
Source: Nationalfootballpost.com
The Kansas City Chiefs released CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Robert Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, WR Taurus Johnson, WR Ashley Lelie, DT Derek Lokey, S Bernard Pollard, S Ricky Price, LB Zach Thomas, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The rookie receiver from South Florida, Taurus Johnson, would make for a good developmental player to add to the practice squad. He has good size, and ball tracking ability, but he needs to become a more consistent player. Zach Thomas may be considering retirement now that he's been released. Javarris Williams runs with good power, a low center of gravity, and picks up his feet properly when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. He's not very fast, and lacks a good initial burst, but the Chiefs may like his potential as a short-yardage runner enough to keep him around on the practice squad.
CHI - Bears content with backs behind RB Matt Forte
Source: Brad Biggs - The Chicago Sun-Times
Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears appear content moving forward with RBs Adrian N. Peterson and Garrett Wolfe behind starter Matt Forte. RB Kevin Jones (ankle) was expected to see a larger role this year, but now that he is out for the year Forte may not come off the field much. He played in 84 percent of the team's snaps last year.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Forte's value is already high, and now with the injury to Kevin Jones it has climbed even higher. The Bears may be content with the backs behind Forte, but they are watching the waiver wire closely today. They would be wise to sign a player like Darius Walker, who the Broncos let go today. Adrian N. Peterson doesn't run with much authority, and is an overall below average player. Garrett Wolfe is small, but he's no Darren Sproles. Wolfe can rack up some yardage when he's in space, but goes down too easily, and can't run through arm tackles.
ARI - WR Anquan Boldin expected to practice next week
Source: Kent Somers - The Arizona Republic
Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is expected to return to practice next week.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Cardinals have been holding Boldin out of practice up to this point in order to get him ready for the start of the regular season.
NO - RB Pierre Thomas questionable for Week 1
Source: Brian Allee-Walsh - The New Orleans Times-Picayune
Brian Allee-Walsh, of The New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (knee) called himself "questionable" for the team's Week 1 game. Thomas has been sidelined since spraining his MCL in his right knee two weeks ago. Thomas said, "My main focus is trying to get back for the first game. But if it's not ready, it's not ready. I can't push it." Thomas estimated his injured knee to be at "65 percent" full strength.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With this news, Thomas should drop to the fifth round in drafts this weekend where everyone is tracking the news. Mike Bell could be a very interesting flex play in week 1 if Thomas doesn't go because the Saints are facing the lowly Lions.
Source: Roy Cummings and Ira Kaufman - The Tampa Tribune
Roy Cummings and Ira Kaufman, of The Tampa Tribune, report the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released PK Matt Bryant.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bryant had terrible injury timing. We think he should be one of the first kickers signed as long as he's healthy when a kicker injury happens during the regular season.
STL - Rams announce roster moves
Source: Stlouisrams.com
The St. Louis Rams have announced they have waived LB Ekenemchukwu Asiodu, DT Antwon Burton, TE Eric Butler, DE Ian Campbell, LB Dominic Douglas, RB Chris Ogbonnaya, CB Cordelius Parks, RB Antonio Pittman, SS Mark Rubin, OT Phillip Trautwein and WR Sean Walker. The Rams have also terminated the contracts of WR Tim Carter and FS Todd Johnson.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sam Gado ends his impressive preseason as the backup to Steven Jackson, and both Antonio Pittman and seventh-round Chris Ogbonnaya are looking for work.
OAK - WR Chaz Schilens won't be able to play during Week 1
Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (foot) will not be ready to play during Week 1.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Schilens was looking like a breakout player, and a rising fantasy star before going down a few weeks ago with a broken bone in his foot. He should be back at full strength near the mid-point of the season, and savvy fantasy owners are adding him to their rosters late in their fantasy drafts.
DAL - TE Martellus Bennett stands out during preseason and could play larger role
Source: Tim Cowlishaw - The Dallas Morning News
Tim Cowlishaw, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys TE Martellus Bennett finished the preseason leading the Cowboys with 12 receptions for 155 yards. He had three catches for 51 yards in the team's preseason game Friday, Sept. 4, against the Minnesota Vikings. With the team looking to replace their most productive receiver, Bennett could find himself playing a larger role this year. Team owner Jerry Jones said the team's passing game is going to rely on throwing to their tight ends and running backs this year.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
All the signs are pointing to Bennett having a productive 2009 season. With Jason Witten likely to finish as the #1 TE in fantasy football, Bennett could also benefit from the team's lack of playmakers at the wide receiver position. Bennett is a backup fantasy TE with huge upside, and his current ADP of TE25 means that he's going undrafted in some fantasy leagues.
IND - RB Mike Hart, Josh DE Josh Thomas among players released
Source: Colts.com
The Indianapolis Colts have waived RB Lance Ball, WR Sam Giguere, DT John Gill, DT Adrian Grady, RB Mike Hart, DE Marcus Howard, DB Dante Hughes, C Steve Justice, WR John Matthews, WR Brett McDermott, RB Walter Mendenhall, OG Tom Pestock, WR Taj Smith, DT Terrance Taylor, OT Jaimie Thomas, DE Josh Thomas and OT Michael Toudouze. DB Nick Graham (undisclosed), DB Travis Key (undisclosed) and TE Jamie Petrowski (undisclosed) were waived injured.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mike Hart could be signed to the practice squad, and his determined running style would work well in the Colts system.
JAX - Jaguars announce roster moves
Source: Jaguars.com
Jaguars.com reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have released FS Marlon McCree, RB Chauncey Washington, P Steve Weatherford, CB Brian Williams, LB Thomas Williams, WR Tiquan Underwood, QB Todd Boeckman, DE Jeremy Navarre, C Cecil Newton, WR Todd Peterson and LB Johnny Williams.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tiquan Underwood is a bit of a surprise here. He was a rising star in training camp, and his play was reminding people that Kenny Britt wasn't the only pro hopeful at receiver for Rutgers. Chauncey Washington never lived up to the hype at USC, and so far has been a below average pro back. Both Underwood and Washington could return on the practice squad.
Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the Oakland Raiders have released S Jerome Boyd, WR Jonathan Holland, LB David Nixon, LB Slade Norris, LB Chris O'Neill, FB Marcel Reece, RB Gary Russell, LB Morlon Greenwood, CB Justin Miller, DT Ryan Boschetti, DT Terdell Sands, CB Darrick Brown, OT Seth Wand, OG Mark Wilson, OT James Marten, TE Darrell Strong and DE Greyson Gunheim. The Raiders have also waived injured FS Rashad Baker (stinger), CB Mike Hawkins (undisclosed) and C John Wade (stinger).
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Russell gets cut, and Louis Rankin gets to keep his job as the 4th string RB. These two RBs couldn't be more different. Rankin is a compact running back with big play ability. Russell is a plodding power back that has a nose for the endzone. Marcel Reece is a versatile player that could play fullback, tight end, or H-back, and he may find his way onto the Raiders practice squad.
Source: Judd Zulgad - The Minneapolis Star Tribune
Judd Zulgad, of The Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings have released DB Colt Anderson, FB Nehemiah Broughton, DE Martail Burnett, OL Chris Clark, OL Brian Daniels, OL Juan Garcia, DE Otis Grigsby, S DeVon Hall, LB Dave Herron, DT Antoine Holmes, RB Ian Johnson, DT Tremaine Johnson, OL Andy Kemp, CB Marcus McCauley, TE Garrett Mills, WR Nick Moore, TE Jake Nordin, WR Vinny Perretta, OL Drew Radovich, DB Marcus Walker and WR Bobby Williams.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Nick Moore, younger brother of Saints receiver Lance Moore, may find a spot on a practice squad with the Vikings or another team. He's not the player that his brother is, but he is willing to go over the middle of the field, and does a good job of high-pointing passes. Cutting Ian Johnson is a mistake. The mini-slasher has the heart of a lion, and was having a productive preseason. He is also a versatile back, that can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield.
WAS - Redskins announce roster moves
Source: Matt Terl - Redskins.com
Matt Terl, of Redskins.com, reports the Washington Redskins have released TE Robert Agnone, RB Anthony Alridge, OT Jeremy Bridges, OT Scott Burley, DE Alex Buzbee, QB Chase Daniel, DT Antonio Dixon, RB Dominique Dorsey, CB Doug Ditch, WR Keith Eloi, LB Cody Glenn, WR D.J. Hackett, SS Lendy Holmes, DE Robert Jackson, OG Rueben Riley, WR Trent Shelton, DL J.D. Skolnitsky, LB Robert Thomas, FB Eddie Williams and LB Darrel Young.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Anthony Alridge aka "Quick Six" has a chance to find a home with another team because of his incredible quickness and speed.
Source: Packers.com
The Green Bay Packers have announced they have released WR Jake Allen, QB Brian Brohm, CB Trevor Ford, OL Andrew Hartline, WR Kole Heckendorf, LB Danny Lansanah, RB Kregg Lumpkin, DL Alfred Malone, WR Ruvell Martin, OT Jamon Meredith, DT Dean Muhtadi, LB Cyril Obiozor, CB Joseph Porter, OT Dane Randolph, FS Anthony Smith, RB Tyrell Sutton, DL Ron Talley and DT Anthony Toribio.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
When word that Lumpkin was released leaked out to the internet, many felt that it meant Tyrell Sutton had won a roster spot. Both Lumpkin and Sutton have NFL game, but Lumpkin has struggled to stay healthy, and Sutton wasn't able to edge out Brandon Jackson or DeShawn Wynn for a backup job behind Ryan Grant.
TEN - Make additional roster moves
Source: Teresa M. Walker - The Associated Press
Updating a previous report, Teresa M. Walker, of The Associated Press, reports the Tennessee Titans have released LB Ryan Fowler, DE Larry Birdine, TE Casey Cramer, LB Rocky Boiman, LB Josh Stamer, S Tuff Harris, S Nick Schommer, DT Mitch King, OL Ryan Durand, OL Cory Lekkerkerker, TE Matthew Mulligan, DT LaJuan Ramsey, CB Tanard Davis and RB Rodney Ferguson and P A.J. Trapasso. The Titans have also waived injured RB Quinton Ganther (calf).
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're upset that OL Cory Lekkerkerker was cut, because he would've been a key addition to the Black Eyed Joe All-Name team.
SEA - Seahawks waive 19 players
Source: Seahawks.com
The Seattle Seahawks have announced they have waived SS Jamar Adams, DL Baraka Atkins, PK Brandon Coutu, OL Brian De La Puente, CB Marquis Floyd, OT Na'Shan Goddard, FS Courtney Greene, WR Mike Hass, CB Kevin Hobbs, FB David Kirtman, RB Devin Moore, SS Nate Ness, TE Joe Newton, WR Logan Payne, LB Dave Philistin, OT Andre Ramsey, OT William Robinson, QB Jeff Rowe and WR Courtney Taylor.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Devin Moore, the speedy RB from Wyoming, could be added on their practice squad and developed as an all-purpose weapon.
CLE - Browns announce roster moves
Source: ClevelandBrowns.com
ClevelandBrowns.com reports the Cleveland Browns have waived FB Charles Ali, CB Brandon Anderson, QB Richard Bartel, CB Tra Battle, OL Branndon Braxton, LB Titus Brown, OL Dustin Fry, DL Adam Hoppel, WR Paul Hubbard, RB Chris Jennings, WR Lance Leggett, OG Pat Murray, WR Jordan Norwood, OL Kurt Quarterman, DE Brian Schaefering, OG Isaac Sowells and DE Santonio Thomas. The Browns have also terminated the contract of SS Hamza Abdullah, RB Noah Herron, CB Corey Ivy, WR David Patten and TE Aaron Walker.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Richard Bartel, once thought of as the next Tony Romo in Dallas, could be added to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Of all the wide receivers released by the Browns, we like the upside of rookie Jordan Norwood. He has good body control, football intelligence, and is a fairly savvy route runner. The Browns would be wise to add him to their practice squad.
Source: Pat Yasinskas - ESPN.com
Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the New England Patriots have traded TE David Thomas to the New Orleans Saints for a 2011 seventh-round draft choice.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The injury to Billy Miller got this trade into motion. Thomas will team with Jeremy Shockey to give the Saints two reliable tight ends to throw to. If Shockey gets injured, the value of David Thomas would skyrocket.
TB - RB Jameel Cook, others released on cut day
Source: Jim Flynn - Pewterreport.com
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released OT Anthony Alabi, CB Kyle Arrington, DT Chris Bradwell, C Rob Bruggeman, PK Matt Bryant, DE Jarriett Buie, S Steve Cargile, WR Patrick Carter, FB Jameel Cook, DT Rashaad Duncan, WR Cortez Hankton, DE Louis Holmes, WR Kareem Huggins, CB Darrell Hunter, OT James Lee, WR Marcus Maxwell, TE Jason Pociask, TE Ryan Purvis, LB Bo Ruud and WR Mario Urrutia. S Donte' Nicholson was waived injured.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like TE Ryan Purvis here, and he could find his way to the Bucs practice squad. He was Matt Ryan's security blanket at Boston College, and made a few plays for Tampa Bay this preseason, including catching a 2-point conversion from Josh Johnson.
Source: Pat Yasinskas - ESPN.com
Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the New Orleans Saints have waived WR Adrian Arrington, OG Nathan Bennett, OT Michael Brown, C Digger Bujnoch, RB Herb Donaldson, OG Tim Duckworth, CB Danny Gorrer, WR Skyler Green, DT Earl Heyman, RB P.J. Hill, TE Martrez Milner, OT Jermey Parnell, DT DeMario Pressley, WR Courtney Roby, WR Matt Simon and LB Anthony Waters. The Saints also terminated the contracts of OT Anthony Davis and DE Paul Spicer.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynell Hamilton has made the team as the fourth RB. We like his instincts for running the football, in addition to his ability to break arm tackles. Hamilton could have value if Mike Bell is injured or ineffective.
DAL - Roster cut down to 53-man limit
Source: truebluefanclub.com
The Dallas Cowboys have released G Travis Bright, S Courtney Brown, QB Rudy Carpenter, TE Scott Chandler, FB Julius Crosslin, DE Marcus Dixon, LB Tearrius George, G Ryan Gibbons, CB Jeremy Haynes, WR Jesse Holley, WR Mike Jefferson, WR Manuel Johnson, CB Mike Mickens, WR Willie Reid, DE Derreck Robinson, FB Asaph Schwapp, DT Jonas Seawright, S DeAngelo Smith, WR Isaiah Stanback, LB Matt Stewart and CB DeAngelo Willingham. RB Keon Lattimore (undisclosed) was waived injured.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Stanback isn't a surprise cut, he struggled with injury his entire time in Dallas. He is a very talented player, and the former Washington Huskies quarterback is also a versatile player that could play a little Wildcat QB if necessary.
PHI - Eagles announce roster moves
Source: Chris McPherson - PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Chris McPherson, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have waived CB Trae Williams, CB Jack Ikegwuonu, DE Bryan Smith, DE Josh Gaines, LB Torrance Daniels, FS Reshard Langford, WR Danny Amendola, RB Lorenzo Booker, C Dallas Reynolds, OG Paul Fanaika, OG Michael Gibson, TE Robert Myers, FB Marcus Mailei and FB Kyle Eckel. The Eagles have also released LB Matt Wilhelm and TE Matt Schobel.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It looks like both Reggie Brown and Brandon Gibson will make the final roster at WR, and Eldra Buckley will make it at RB. Booker has been a disappointment for the Eagles, and he looks like he's lost his confidence when running the football. He may catch on with another team as a change of pace back.
SF - 49ers announce roster moves
Source: 49ers.com/
SF49ers.com reports the San Francisco 49ers have waived OT Jacob Bender, OT Alex Boone, WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Joe Jon Finley, CB Eric Green, OG Kyle Howard, CB Terrail Lambert, FB Brit Miller, DT Khalif Mitchell, LB Jay Moore, TE Bear Pascoe, WR Maurice Price, FB William Rentmeester, LB Justin Roland, RB Kory Sheets, C Matt Spanos, OT Joe Toledo, LB Mark Washington and WR Dominique Zeigler.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Zeigler was having a great camp and preseason, but it looks like it's back to the practice squad for him. The 49ers decided to keep Jason Hill and Michael Spurlock instead. Sheets was also drawing raves, but the team decided to only keep two true tailbacks in Frank Gore and Glen Coffee. Kory Sheets ran with authority this preseason, and has one of the best stiff arms in the game. He is a prime candidate for the 49ers practice squad as well.
Source: www.nationalfootballpost.com
The Baltimore Ravens have announced they have waived WR Jayson Foster, OG Bryan Mattison, CB Evan Oglesby, OT Joe Reitz, OT Stefan Rodgers, TE Isaac Smolko, OL Tre' Stallings, WR Ernie Wheelwright, DT Nader Abdallah, FB Jason Cook, TE Davon Drew, LB Tony Fein, S K.J. Gerard, RB Cedric Peerman, WR Eron Riley and LB William VanDeSteeg. The Ravens have also waived DT William Johnson (shoulder) after reaching an injury settlement.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Harper's highlight reel plays in preseason games weren't enough to overcome his inconsistency in practice. Cedric Peerman is the versatile rookie back from Virginia, and he could find a home with another team. He has NFL game, but the Ravens backfield is very crowded, and the team decided to keep Jalen Parmele over the rookie. We like Davon Drew's potential as a tight end, but he is a raw prospect having only played the position for two years (he was a converted quarterback).
HOU - Texans announce roster moves
Source: HoustonTexans.com
HoustonTexans.com reports the Houston Texans have released QB Alex Brink, LB Buster Davis, FB Jonathan Evans, RB Arian Foster, TE Clark Harris, FS Brandon Harrison, C Brett Helms, DE Tim Jamison, WR Darnell Jenkins, OG Adrian Jones, DT Josh Leonard, DE Jesse Nading, Deltha O'Neal, CB Mark Parson, CB Matterral Richardson, WR Mark Simmons, OT Adam Stenavich, OT Brandon Torrey and OT Cliff Washburn. The Texans have also waived injured CB A.J. Davis (undisclosed) and LB Toddrick Verdell (shoulder).
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Foster could easily be back on the roster if (when) Chris Brown gets hurt and the team needs a short-yardage back.
CIN - Bengals announce roster cuts
Source: Joe Reedy - The Cincinnati Enquirer
Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals have released PK Sam Swank, CB Rico Murray, TE Kolo Kapanui, OG Andrew Crummey, DT Ventrell Jenkins, OT Augustus Parrish, WR Freddie Brown, LB Dan Skuta, DE Chris Harrington, DT Langston Moore, WR Maurice Purify, FB Chris Pressley, SS Corey Lynch, LB James Maxwell, LB Darryl Blackstock, RB James X. Johnson, DT Clinton McDonald, OG Jason Shirley, FB Fui Vakapuna and SS Marvin White.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Both Brian Leonard and DeDe Dorsey made the team, so they will go into the season with four RBs. UDFA WR/KR Quan Cosby also made the team.
CIN - Bengals hanging onto both RB Brian Leonard and RB DeDe Dorsey
Source: Joe Reedy - Cincinnati.com
The Cincinnati Bengals announced both RBs Brian Leonard and DeDe Dorsey have made their final 53-man roster.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This was a battle that was supposed to come down to one or the other. The Bengals decided to keep both on their squad because of Leonard's versatility and Dorsey's big play ability.
NFL - Will not look into possible tampering with WR Michael Crabtree
Source: Updating a previous report, Matt Maiocco - The Santa Rosa Press Democrat
Updating a previous report, Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the NFL said they will not investigate whether teams have tampered with San Francisco first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree. NFL Network's Deion Sanders intimated that two teams have gotten word to Crabtree that they are willing to pay more than the 49ers have offered.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The deadline to trade unsigned draft picks was August 14th, so Crabtree doesn't have any ground to stand on. If he does hold out the entire season, he might not be selected in the first 10 picks next year, and thus would earn less money than he's already set to make.
WAS - PK Shaun Suisham will be kicker
Source: Brad Biggs - the National Football Post
Brad Biggs, of the National Football Post, reports Washington Redskins PK Shaun Suisham will be the team's kicker this season.

WAS - QB Colt Brennan to be placed on IR
Source: Gary Fitzgerald and Larry Weisman - Redskins.com
Gary Fitzgerald and Larry Weisman, of Redskins.com, report the Washington Redskins plan to place QB Colt Brennan (hamstring) on Injured Reserve.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Redskins still have to decide whether or not to keep rookie QB Chase Daniel, who was battling with Brennan for the third QB spot. Brennan had been struggling earlier in the preseason, but bounced back with a strong performance in the finale against Jacksonville. He's been bothered by his hamstring during training camp, and injured it again in the 4th quarter against the Jags, and did not return to the game.
Source: Mike Garafolo - the Star-Ledger
Mike Garafolo, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants have released WR David Tyree, according to his agent, Michael Clouser. 'I talked to (assistant GM) Kevin Abrams this morning and he said it was a very tough decision for the team,' Clouser said. 'Like anyone else, it was a tough thing for David to hear. He's actually saying his goodbyes to his teammates right now.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
One of the heroes from Super Bowl 42, Tyree knew the writing was on the wall when the Giants selected both Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden in the 2009 NFL Draft.
SF - WR Michael Crabtree feels he is being lowballed

Daniel Brown, of the San Jose Mercury News, reports Deion Sanders said during an appearance on the NFL Network that San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree is willing to sit the entire 2009 season over a contract impasse. According to Sanders, Crabtree feels he is worth more than what the 49ers have offered. 'Why would you settle for $20 million when you feel like you can get $40 million,' Sanders said. 'That's the problem.'

Crabtree would be making a big mistake if he sat out his entire rookie season and re-entered the draft next year. What would happen if he was selected outside of the top 10, or top 20? There are several reasons why Crabtree fell to the #10 spot, and one of those was his attitude. Someone (like Deion) needs to tell Crabtree that none of these antics are making him look better in the eyes of NFL teams.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Hope you have a great Sunday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
