![]() FFPC Presents an All-New Fantasy Football Format: The Terminator Tournament
The Terminator is based on a Draft Experts format - optimized player scoring without lineup submission or waiver wire pickups. But, by adding just a single tweak to the standard Draft Experts, it completely alters it and creates this band new concept that's certain to be exciting and challenging. What will make the Terminator unique and different from any league you have ever been a part of is this: Each week, Terminator team owners are required to drop a single player from their rosters. That's right - simply terminate any player they choose. There are no pickups - only these single weekly drops. The rosters are reduced by one player each week for 16 weeks. Start with 26 players and end up with 10. Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Just find a crummy player, then drop him every week. It gets tougher as the season goes on, and more interesting, too. The Terminator will run in the form of a Tournament with a $350 entry, 60 teams placed into 12-team leagues and a guaranteed $5,000 Grand Prize. The overall payouts are 85% or better. There are three draft days available: August 25th, 26th and 27th. Check out The Terminator and register today! |

NYJ - QB Mark Sanchez to start second preseason game
Source: Randy Lange - NewYorkJets.com
NewYorkJets.com reports New York Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez has been named the team's starter for their second preseason game. He will make his first start for the team Aug. 24 against the Baltimore Ravens.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
At this point, it is basically Sanchez's job to lose.
Source: Mike Klis - Denver Post
The Denver Post reports new Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels spoke calmly about the deep contrast in his quarterbacks' performances Friday until he received his third consecutive question about it. At that point of redundancy, McDaniels became slightly more emphatic in his defense of Orton. "I feel very confident in where we're at, OK?" McDaniels said. "Like I said, he made a few mistakes. But we're not going to go into this thing after the first preseason game and start tailspinning and doing this and that and making knee-jerk reactions."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The offense in Denver has a lot of moving parts, and nobody was expecting Kyle Orton to look like Tom Brady (or Matt Cassel) from day one. However, he was outplayed by Chris Simms and if he doesn't start playing better we could see a full blown QB controversy in Denver. The third week of the preseason the Broncos play the Bears at Invesco Field, and Orton will really hear the boo birds if he doesn't outplay Jay Cutler in that game.
CHI - QB Jay Cutler's leadership ability in question?
Source: Brad Biggs - the Chicago Sun Times
Brad Biggs, from the Chicago Sun Times, reports Tony Dungy and Mike Ditka have questioned the leadership ability of Jay Cutler, and the quarterback made the point worth pondering again in post-game remarks. Cutler was asked an innocuous question about what happened on the interception by Leodis McKelvin on an underthrown. Cutler appeared to throw off his back foot, and he pretty much implicated wide receiver Devin Hester. "Devin is more of a go-get it guy, he is not really a back shoulder or jump up and get it [guy]," Cutler said. "You learn from it. We made some mistakes. It's the first preseason game. Luckily enough, we have some time to correct them and keep going."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bears fans will need to get used to this. Cutler has a very strong arm, perhaps the strongest in the league, and he sometimes relies on it too much when a play doesn't go as planned. Had Cutler set his feet on that throw (or at least had better form) he would not have underthrown the pass. Sometimes it's best just to throw the ball away, rather than take a sack or throw an interception. However, Cutler is supremely confident that his arm can make any throw - from any position, so chances are he'll launch one down field trying to make something happen if a play breaks down.
TB - QB Byron Leftwich takes the lead in QB derby
Source: Gary Shelton - the St. Petersburg Times
Gary Shelton, from the St. Petersburg Times, reports that after Saturday night the rest of the field is chasing Byron Leftwich. Leftwich showed a little more danger, a little more flair, in the Bucs' preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. He had a little more electricity, and a little more success. And around him, his team seemed to have just a little more confidence, and just a few more possibilities, than when someone else was steering the ship. No, it wasn't enough to guarantee that he will start when the regular season does, but score Round 1 for Leftwich.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This race is far from over, but if the season started today we think Byron Leftwich would be the starter. Luke McCown will be the main competition for Leftwich as rookie Josh Freeman looked lost on the field. The Bucs most likely want to sit on the rookie for a year and let him learn the ropes as a backup. The odd man out could be Josh Johnson, but he had a great day in the Bucs first preseason game. If he is cut but the Bucs, his new team will be very happy with his long term prospects.
SF - QB Shaun Hill 'less of a mystery' according to HC Singletary
Source: Matt Maiocco - the Santa Rosa Press Democrat
Matt Maiocco, from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said QB Shaun Hill is "less of a mystery" at this point than Alex Smith. Hill has started 10 NFL games the past two seasons since Smith last suited up for a meaningful game. It's never a great idea to have a mystery at quarterback. Smith must erase every shred of doubt -- or mystery -- from Singletary's mind. And he does not have much time to do it.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The QB race is "too close to call" right now, and if it continues on this same path we may see Hill designated the starter because he is more of a proven commodity.
KC - WR Dwayne Bowe delivers in first preseason game
Source: Randy Covitz - Kansas City Star
Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe, who has been demoted to third string recently, stepped up in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Houston Texans. Bowe caught a team-high five catches for 70 yards during the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bowe seems to have taken his benching to heart. If new head coach Todd Haley is successful with this motivation ploy, Bowe could easily finish in the top five fantasy wide receivers. He should have the opportunity in an offense that will feature a lot of passing.
HOU - RB Chris Brown a positive for the team
Source: Nick Scurfield - HoustonTexans.com
Nick Scurfield, from HoustonTexans.com, notes that one of the biggest positives of the game was the Texans' biggest running back, 6-3, 234-pound veteran Chris Brown. Brown scored the Texans' only touchdown of the game in the first quarter and finished with 25 rushing yards on six carries along with 22 receiving yards. "That was very exciting, and that's what he is," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's a big back in the red zone and gets the ball going downhill. That's what we need him to do, and he looked like his old self tonight, so I felt very good about his time."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
On that touchdown drive the team called Brown's number four times in a row, starting at the 23-yard line. Brown has been with the team since March of 2008, but this was only the second time he played in a game for the Texans because of a back injury that forced him to miss all of last season. Coach Gary Kubiak commented that Brown has been one of the hardest workers during the offseason program, and so far it's paying off. Brown is a very talented RB who could be the "Thunder" to Steve Slaton's "Lightning" - if he can stay healthy.
TB - HC Morris calls out WR WR Maurice Stovall
Source: Stephen F. Holder - St. Petersburg Times
The St. Petersburg Times notes Bucs head coach Raheem Morris made no attempt to hide the fact that none of the team's second-tier receivers -- with the exception of Brian Clark -- stepped forward to make a notable play despite numerous opportunities. Antonio Bryant's and Michael Clayton's absences opened the door, but no one took advantage. And the drops came far too frequently. "The ball was on the ground a little bit two much for my liking," Morris said. "That's probably first-game jitters and all that other stuff because we are a team that emphasizes ball security... We need some other guys to step up." Like who? Maurice Stovall, in particular. "You've got one-on-one coverage," Morris said. "I want to see you make some plays."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's not a good sign when your head coach singles you out for lack of production. Stovall has been underachieving his whole career, and could find himself on the roster bubble if he doesn't start playing better.
GB - RB Tyrell Sutton in the running behind Grant
Source: Rob - Demovsky - Green Bay Press Gazette
The Green Bay Press Gazette reports Tyrell Sutton was seemingly a long shot when the Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent this spring. Now, Sutton has suddenly thrown himself into the mix for one of the backup running back positions behind Ryan Grant.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sutton plays much bigger than his size would indicate. He is a willing inside runner that will drop his pads and initiate contact, all the while continuing to churn his legs for more yards. He has very good hands, and is very creative in the open field, using an array of moves to get by defenders. Because of his size and injury history, durability is a concern. The Packers have one of the deepest backfields in the NFL, with Brandon Jackson, DeShawn Wynn, Kregg Lumpkin, and Tyrell Sutton all battling for playing time behind Ryan Grant.
DEN - WR Brandon Marshall says hip is fine, it was hamstring that was injured
Source: Frank Schwab - the Colorado Springs Gazette
Frank Schwab, from the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall addressed a few topics after Sunday's practice. Here are some highlights:
On being found not guilty for a misdemeanor battery charge: "I felt pretty good. I was confident going in. For almost a year and a half now I've been swearing to my teammates and the community that I'm not that guy that they were portraying me to be. Finally, to stand in front of a jury where they finally see both sides and for it to be a fair stage, the truth finally came out."
On his injury that kept him out two weeks: "The hip is fine. It was my hamstring."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Brandon Marshall commented that he didn't know if he would be able to play in the Broncos next preseason game, but head coach Josh McDaniels said he was hopeful Marshall could play.
ARI - WR Steve Breaston has sprained PCL
Source: Craig Morgan - CBSSports.com
CBSSports.com reports Arizona Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) has a sprained PCL in his right knee. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't put a timetable on his return.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This will open the door for WR Jerehme Urban, who has been having a great camp.
SEA - Looking to add another RB?
Source: Michael Lombardi - the National Football Post
Michael Lombardi, from the National Football Post, notes the Seahawks have had internal discussions about possibly being interested in adding another running back.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Julius Jones is far from the best feature back in the league, and the team would be wise to try and find more depth at the position. The Seahawks will be watching camp cuts, or could possibly bring in a veteran like Edgerrin James.
DAL - X-rays negative on WR Roy Williams
Source: Josh Ellis - DallasCowboys.com
Josh Ellis, of DallasCowboys.com, reports X-rays on Dallas Cowboys WR Roy Williams' (wrist) injured wrist were negative.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Williams has been developing better chemistry with Tony Romo as camp has progressed, so hopefully this injury won't keep him from practicing for too long. Even though he's likely the #2 target behind TE Jason Witten, the team is still expecting big things from Williams and he should be an important target when the team gets in the red zone.
STL - Not planning to bring in another WR
Source: Cameron Hollway - CBSSports.com
CBSSports.com reports St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said he is not planning to bring another wide receiver into training camp, even though the team has three wide receivers sidelined.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Donnie Avery, Brooks Foster, and Tim Carter are all sidelined for varying lengths of time, and it is a bit surprising the team isn't considering bringing in a veteran. The Rams have one of the most inexperienced WR corps in the league, so we could see Randy McMichael and Steven Jackson as Marc Bulger's most reliable targets until Donnie Avery comes back.
BAL - QB Cleo Lemon signs one-year deal
Source: Jason La Canfora - The NFL Network
Jason La Canfora, of The NFL Network, reports the Baltimore Ravens have signed free-agent QB Cleo Lemon (Jaguars) to a one-year deal, according to a league source. Lemon is with the team for practice Sunday, Aug. 16.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We anticipated this signing yesterday, when Lemon was brought in for a tryout. The Ravens are concerned about John Beck's injured shoulder, even though an MRI showed no tears to any muscles or ligaments. Lemon has experience with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron from their days together in Miami, so he shouldn't have any trouble picking up the offense.
OAK - RB Darren McFadden could carry the ball more in 2009
Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said RB Darren McFadden is close to starting and carrying the ball more. When it was suggested fans might want to see McFadden get 20 touches a game, Cable said, "I was thinking more touches than that, but if they want 20, we'll work on it."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Despite his amazing ability, McFadden is still undervalued in some fantasy circles. If McFadden can stay healthy he should get around 200 carries and 40+ receptions this year.
CLE - Round one quarterback battle a wash?
Source: Associated Press
Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn hit 7-of-11 passes for 68 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. QB Derek Anderson definitely didn't do better, hitting 0-of-2 passing attempts with an interception. Head coach Eric Mangini said his quarterback competition is far from over, and the two quarterbacks, according to The Associated Press, are eager to put their first showing far behind them. Mangini said he wanted to see the team play smart football, toughness and the ability to out hustle their opponent. 'I don't really think we achieved any of those objections,' Mangini said after his team was shut out by the Green Bay Packers. Mangini did note he thought Quinn did a nice job with the two drives he had.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Much like the Tampa QB battle, the reports from practice seemed to predict the game performances, as neither Browns QB played like a starter.
SEA - WR Nate Burleson plays in first preseason game
Source: Clare Farnsworth - Seahawks.com
Seattle Seahawks WR Nate Burleson (knee) played Saturday, Aug. 15, against the San Diego Chargers. He caught just one pass for 12 yards during the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Burleson is in line to start opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He is barely getting drafted and will come very cheap as your fifth or sixth WR.
CHI - QB Jay Cutler struggles in preseason debut
Source: Associated Press
The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, making his preseason debut with the Bears, was inconsistent Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Buffalo Bills. Cutler went 5-of-10 passing for 64 yards with an interception, which came on a poorly under thrown pass. He almost threw another interception, but the defensive back dropped the ball. Cutler said it is too early to panic and he feels fine. He also noted starting RB Matt Forte and starting TE Greg Olsen were rested.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cutler didn't exactly show leadership when he blamed Devin Hester for an interception even though he threw the ball off of his back foot. At least Denver fans can take solace in the fact that Cutler didn't look that much better than Kyle Orton.
BUF - QB Trent Edwards sharp in second preseason game
Source: Associated Press
The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards went 10-for-10 during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Chicago Bears. He threw for 79 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, while working out of the team's new no-huddle offense.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Edwards looks ready to command the Bills no-huddle offense already. He could be one of the surprise fantasy QBs of the year if he can stay healthy.
GB - QB Aaron Rodgers leads team on two scoring drives
Source: Associated Press
The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers hit 5-of-10 passes for 102 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown pass to WR Donald Driver, during the team's first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Cleveland Browns. His next drive was an 11-play drive that was finished by a 2-yard touchdown run from RB Ryan Grant.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rodgers looked every bit the part of a QB poised to join the NFL's elite for good this year.
KC - QB Matt Cassel makes preseason debut
Source: seattlepi.com
Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel made his debut with the Chiefs Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Houston Texans. He went 2-of-5 for 15 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cassel had an uneventful debut, but we should surely see more of the QB in Todd Haley's offense as the preseason goes on.
SD - TE Antonio Gates sees limited work in first preseason game
Source: Tod Leonard - San Diego Union-Tribune
San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates saw limited work Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Seattle Seahawks. He caught three passes for 17 yards during the team's first preseason game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gates looked strong, with no signs of any limitations from the toe injury that plagued him last season.
GB - RB Ryan Grant finds end zone in first preseason game
Source: Jason Wilde - Wisconson State Journal
Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant carried the football six times for 28 yards, including a touchdown run Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Cleveland Browns.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Grant reminded observers of the excellent back he was in 2007, not the mediocre back he was in 2008. He could be a solid value in the third/fourth round, and he is certainly another reason to think you can wait on your RB2 this year, instead of subscribing to the old stud RB theory.
HOU - Battle for No. 2 running back job continues
Source: seattlepi.com
Houston Texans backup RB Ryan Moats carried the ball 10 times Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Kansas City Chiefs and rushed for a team-high 52 yards. He is battling for the team's No. 2 running back job during training camp. RB Chris Brown scored a touchdown, while carrying the ball six times for 25 yards.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Moats is more talented than his performance thus far in his career would lead you to believe. If he becomes more confident, he could evolve into a solid backup for Steve Slaton.
SD - RB LaDainian Tomlinson sees some preseason action
Source: Associated Press
San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson got his wish Saturday, Aug. 15, and was allowed to see some preseason action. Against the Seattle Seahawks, Tomlinson carried the football four times for 10 yards. He also had one reception for eight yards.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is another sign that Tomlinson has a chip on his shoulder about getting the vision of his performance last year out of everyone's minds with a command performance this year. We think he's worth a mid-first pick, but he still carries more risk of a breakdown than the elite young RBs that are still in their prime.
Source: Scott Reynolds - pewterreport.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Luke McCown went 4 of 8 for 19 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Tennessee Titans. QB Byron Leftwich hit 6 of 14 passing attempts for 61 yards with one touchdown and no interception, while rookie QB Josh Freeman was 5 of 9 for 52 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Staying in line with most reports from Bucs camp, none of the QBs are consistently playing like a starter. Unless one of these guys all of the sudden finds his game in the next few weeks, it could be a long season in Tampa.
TEN - QB Vince Young solid in second preseason game
Source: seattlepi.com
Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young hit 9 of 14 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also scrambled twice for nine yards during the game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Young vastly outplayed starter Kerry Collins, and showed chemistry with first-round pick Kenny Britt. Have the seeds of in-season QB controversy been planted? Stay tuned. At the very least, this was a much better performance from Young than we've seen lately.
PHI - RB Brian Westbrook returns to practice
Source: ESPNews
ESPNews reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) returned to practice Saturday, Aug. 15. It was the first time he practiced during training camp.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Seems like everything is on schedule for Westbrook to start week 1 of the regular season. He could be a steal in PPR leagues this year, just make sure you take LeSean McCoy in the ninth or tenth round to hedge your bet.
CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart misses practice Saturday
Source: Steve Reed - CarolinaGrowl.com
Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (Achilles') did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 15.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Stewart has missed an alarming amount of practice this week. It has been four days now since Stewart has worked out because of soreness in his achilles. If he has an injury-riddled season, DeAngelo Williams could be a steal in the late first round, because the main limitation on his potential this year is the shared workload with Stewart. Mike Goodson's potential value also goes up with this development.
That'll do it for today, Folks.
