TEN - Titans QB Young Trying To Improve On Deeper Passes
Source: Jim Wyatt, The Tennessean
The Tennessee Titans have spent a big chunk of time in offseason workouts throwing the deep ball. Last week Vince Young closed a practice by connecting with rookie Lavelle Hawkins on a 50-yarder and has made some other nice deep throws in minicamps, but he has room for improvement. Last year Young's completion percentage jumped nearly 10 points from his rookie season, but he was 8-of-47 (17 percent) on attempts when the ball traveled 21 yards or more in the air. That was down from his rookie season, when he completed 18.9 percent of similar throws. The NFL average last season on passes of 21 yards or more in the air: 28.4 percent.

Completion percentage is always on the QB it seems but the reality is that the receivers play a huge role. And Young has been limited there in the past. We try to be optimistic but I'm not sure how much better his WRs will be this year. Some of this is on Young of course and you'd hope he'd show some improvement in his 3rd year.
SD - Chargers Sign Return Specialist Jones
Source: Mike Sullivan, North County Times
The San Diego Chargers signed return specialist Mark Jones to a one-year contract on Friday. While Jones, 27, can also play wide receiver, he has exclusively been used as a returner in four NFL seasons, one with the New York Giants and the past three with Tampa Bay.
"Mark's versatility was very attractive to us," general manager A.J. Smith said in a press release. "He's an experienced NFL punt returner and a solid player who will raise the level of competition in our camp."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This could be another worry for WR Eric Parker who is rumored to be on the trading block.

San Francicso TE Delanie Walker, who originally received $102,000 to sign as a sixth-round draft pick in 2006, received a three-year extension worth $6 million this offseason. The deal included a $1.8 million signing bonus. He is now signed through the 2012 season.

Vernon Davis gets all the TE attention here but it would be like offensive coordinator Mike Martz to make the unsung guy a star. We still think Davis is the guy but Walker's a guy to keep an eye on.
GB - Packers Cleared $21.4 Million in 2007 But Concerns Linger
Source: Chris Jenkins, AP
After a 13-3 regular season, two home playoff games and a final bow from Brett Favre, the Green Bay Packers figured to have a pretty good year from a financial perspective.
And they did - but it wasn't the moneymaking blockbuster some might have expected, a development that reinforced Packers executives' long-term concerns about the financial health of the NFL. The Packers took in about $241 million in operating revenue for the 2007-08 fiscal year that ended March 31, about 10 percent more than the previous year. But thanks to a significant rise in player costs, the team's total operating profit fell more than 37 percent to $21.4 million. "We had a good year," Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said. "But not as strong as you might have anticipated."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Not really fantasy football information but a pretty interesting article about the Packers and the business side of an NFL Franchise. Expect these types of thoughts to become more in the spotlight as teams consider what they're doing with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
OAK - Video Tape Contradicts WR Walker's Story
Source: Norm Clarke, Las Vegas Journal-Review
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was seen entering a car under his own power at the Bellagio the morning he was found beaten and unconscious, it was learned Friday.
Metro police have surveillance tape of Walker going to the car, and it doesn't match the abduction story he told a Web site Tuesday, the source said. Walker's story had been that he was abducted from his room: "I was just back at my room, and at about 5:30 in the morning," Walker told TheDirty.com, "I got a knock at the door. I opened it, and three guys with guns were there. They cracked me in the head a few times, knocking me unconscious. They then robbed me of everything I had; my watch, money, everything. Somehow they got me to a car and dropped me off in the street. That's what happened."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Interesting development here. If you're like me, you wondered why someone would rob a guy in his room and then haul him out of the hotel and then leave him on the street.
JAC - Coach Del Rio Hands On With Charity
Source: Jeff Elliot, Florida Times-Union
With a desire to do more than simply write a check, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio announced Wednesday that he and his wife, Linda, will take an active role with his newly created foundation that's designed to "energize, educate and enrich the lives of our youth through generous investment of financial support, time and devotion."
"I plan on being directly involved with the initiatives, with fundraising, with visits and personally being involved in a number of ways," said Del Rio, in his sixth year as the Jaguars' coach. "This is not just me writing a check. I'm more concerned with establishing deep roots in this community. This is our home, and we're going to find a way to do it the right way. Linda and I intend to personally subsidize all the administrative costs of running our foundation so that we can give as much as we can directly to the charities. "I feel like I have been extremely blessed, very fortunate that God has blessed me with a lot. It's a duty and an honor to be the head coach, and I consider it a duty and an honor to be the president of the Jack Del Rio Foundation to help young children."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cool story to balance out the DUI and Assault articles today. Good on Del Rio.
DEF - TEN - Titans DE Kearse Arrested For DUI
Source: titansradio.com
Tennessee Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse has been arrested for DUI, WTVF-TV reported. Metro Nashville police said Kearse was seen speeding and swerving several times while traveling west on West End Avenue. The officer who pulled the Titans player over said Kearse exhibited slurred speech, red eyes, and smelled of alcohol. He reportedly refused a breath test. Officials said the incident was Kearse's first offense.

DEF - NYG - Giants CB Pope Arrested In Detroit
Source: clickondetroit.com
Detroit police said Geoffrey Pope, a New York Giant's cornerback, was celebrating his birthday Friday night at a club on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. A fight broke out and Pope is accused of hitting a man over the head with a champagne bottle. The victim happened to be the son of Local 4 News anchor Carmen Harlan. He suffered 28 stitches to his ear. Pope was arrested but was released Saturday morning pending investigation. Pope could be charged with felonious assault, a four-year felony. Police said he is allowed to return to New York, but must turn himself in and return for trial if he is charged.

Note for NFL Players - when you're going to hit a guy over the head with a champagne bottle, pick the guy that is NOT the son of the local news TV Anchor...
DEF - DAL - DB Jones Looking To Drop PacMan Name
Source: AP
Cowboys CB Adam Jones said he'd like to be called by his given name and make "Pacman" a thing of the past.
"There's really just a lot of negativity behind it," Jones said. "It's just time for a change, man. I'm doing everything to make sure that I'm all right as a person, mentally and emotionally."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Once again, Footballguys is ahead of the curve here. I've been saying for years Jones hasn't been productive enough to warrant a nickname. Glad to see he's coming around...
That'll do it for today, Folks. Have a great rest of your Monday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
