NYG - RB Bradshaw Jailed For Probation Violation
Source: Skip Wood, USA Today
Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw has been in a Virgina jail cell since June 15 after violating the terms of his probation. Bradshaw was sentenced to two years of probation for misdemeanor petty larceny in 2006 while a student at Marshall University. Details of his most recent arrest are currently unavailable.

You're reading that right. USA Today is reporting that current New York Giant running back Ahmad Bradshaw was put in jail on June 15 and is still there as of Thursday afternoon. Bradshaw's lawyer had this statement Thursday:
"Ahmad Bradshaw is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence in Abingdon Regional Jail in Virginia on a probation violation charged out of the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court," the statement reads. "The underlying charge in this matter stems from an offense that occurred while Mr. Bradshaw was a juvenile. Mr. Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and be in training for the next season."NYG - Giants RB Jacobs Could Have Leverage Now
Source: Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger
New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs is entering the final year of his contract and is looking for a big payday. The Giants, according to Garafolo, have been unwilling to go anywhere near the numbers Jacobs is looking for. Part of their reasoning is likely because RB Ahmad Bradshaw has been there as insurance. This is key given Bradshaw's recent arrest. GM Jerry Reese has vowed that Bradshaw would be on a "short leash", something he's said many times over the past year. "I won't let you down," was Bradshaw's reply and Reese has said that was a sufficient response.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Will Michael Strahan's retirement have the Giants feeling like they have room freed up to spend on giving Jacobs a new deal? How about Burress? We'll see. Not sure what Reese is thinking but we're thinking Jacobs is going to be the workhorse in this backfield.
GB - QB Rodgers Showing Off Arm Strength
Source: John Clayton, ESPN
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is doing a pretty good job in making people forget about retired QB Brett Favre. Rogers is already drawing comparisons to his predecessor with respect to arm strength and his deep ball ability. "He has a cannon," WR Greg Jennings said. "He throws it like a Jugs machine every time.... He can make every throw on the football field, and his deep ball is one of the prettiest. Brett had a great deep ball, but Aaron has a beautiful one." HC Mike McCarthy agreed and also marveled at Rogers' progress since he was drafted in 2005. "He's very fundamentally strong. He's clearly one of the better guys I've had the opportunity to work with."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
I was a Brett Favre fan but I'm pulling for Rogers here. He's in a nearly impossible situation following a guy as beloved as Favre but I hope he does well. It is encouraging to see guys like McCarthy fairly raving about his progress. I'm anxious to see what they think when camp gets rolling and the intensity is upped.
SD - Chargers TE Chandler Filling In For Gates
Source: Mike Sullivan, North County Times
Until Chargers TE Antonio Gates can return from offseason toe surgery, rookie TE Scott Chandler will see extended time with the first team. The little used 2007 fourth rounder has had a lot thrown at him this spring after appearing in just one game last season. "We have a specific set of things we want Scott to do to get better, and I think he's doing them," HC Norv Turner said. "When we get into training camp, we'll see how far he's progressed." Chandler, who has been working on several fundamentals such as blocking, route running and footwork, will likely see continued action with the starters during training camp while Gates continues to recover.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Something to keep in mind as we watch the progress of Antonio Gates. Toe injuries are scary and I'd be lying if I said I felt great about Gates this year. If he's your guy, it's worth some cheap insurance likely to look at Chandler here if TEs are scarce in your league.
BAL - QB Flacco Making Up Lost Time, RB Patrick Sore
Source: Patrick Stoetzer, Carroll County Times
Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco missed a passing camp last month due to the NFL/NCAA regulation that keeps rookies from practicing until they finish school. But Flacco has looked good this week in getting a steady diet of work under center. Flacco guided the offense Wednesday during red-zone drills and looked sharp on crossing patterns and a few designed rollouts. It hasn't been as uplifting for seventh round pick RB Allen Patrick, who has been nursing a hamstring injury. "He's been fighting that, really, since he got here," HC John Harbaugh said. "He's going to have to work hard on that the next few weeks."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
As we told you in yesterday's update, it looks like Troy Smith has surged ahead of Kyle Boller. Many feel that Flacco is really the main competition that Smith will have. He'll have to have a great summer to overtake Smith you'd think but stranger things have happened. Right now, it looks like Troy Smith with Flacco behind him. At least for now.
TB - WR Bryant Impressing, Bucs Have Options
Source: Roy Cummings, Steven Hinton, Tampa Tribune
Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant has been making his mark this offseason, potentially cracking the top two or three receivers on the depth chart. "I'll tell you, Antonio Bryant has really been impressive," HC Jon Gruden said. "We really like the things Antonio Bryant has done here, so we'll see how it works out." Bryant is competing with Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall and Ike Hilliard as well as lesser known players like Dexter Jackson, Paris Warren, Cortez Hankton and Chad Lucas. "We may not be as bad at that position as a lot of people thought," Bucs pro personnel executive Doug Williams said.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If you remember Jon Gruden raving about David Boston in the past, you know to take some of this with a grain of salt. Gruden's a fun guy to listen to, but be careful. On the flipside, it's not like Bryant is trying to break into the Colts WR corps. With these guys, there is definitely going to be room for guys to emerge.
Free Agent RB Jones Optimistic
Source: Larry Lage, AP Sports Writer
Free Agent RB Kevin Jones believes he will be far enough recovered from his ACL surgery that he could participate in non-contact drills at training camp next month, if a team signs him between now and then. "I honestly feel like I'm ready to play right now," he said. Jones has an official workout scheduled for scouts on June 28.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There hasn't been a lot of talk about teams wanting to acquire a RB but the smart ones of course wouldn't talk as it weakens their negotiating position. Jones will latch on somewhere. He's talking of a "miraculous" recovery with his knee. The workout on the 28th will go a long ways toward determining what happens with him.
Dr. D.S. Ping, who has been helping Jones with some unorthodox rehabilitation said, "The scouts are going to be amazed at what they see next week."DEF - DAL - CB Jones Sees First-Team Reps
Source: Todd Archer, Dallas Morning News
Cowboys CB Adam "Pacman" Jones practiced with the first team Wednesday while CB Anthony Henry worked out at safety taking on tight ends in coverage. "Right now, we don't have any depth charts," DC Brian Stewart said. "What we're trying to do is get Pacman, DT Tank [Johnson], DE [Jason] Hatcher and LB [Anthony] Spencer some reps, because they're all going to play."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
No surprise here. If Adam Jones sticks with the Cowboys, he'll be a featured part of their team and will see plenty of playing time. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him straighten up here in Dallas at least for this season. Jerry Jones loves to be the guy that takes a castoff from somewhere else and turns them into a player. He's loving how Terrell Owens is working out for him and he'll do all he can to make the same thing happen with Adam Jones.
DEF - TEN - Titans Reject DT Haynesworth's Compromise - Talks Ongoing
Source: Jim Wyatt, Nashville Tennessean
Titans HC Jeff Fisher said that the team is unlikely to accept a proposal from DT Albert Haynesworth's agent, that stipulates he will not be franchised next year if he agrees to sign his current one-year tender offer of $7.25 million. He would then either sign a long-term deal, or become a free agent next season. "I think that's unlikely. It's not as simple as has been reported, but we have different options," Fisher said. "First and foremost, the most important thing is to try and get a deal done." Fisher added that talks are ongoing, contrary to reports that negotiations have stalled.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's hard to base too much on what you read in the papers with these things as both sides use the media to float positions out there. We'll see how this works out as obviously Haynesworth is a key part of this Titan's team.
DEF - TB - Bucs Rookie DT Moore Still Out Of Shape
Source: Roy Cummings, Steve Hinton, Tampa Tribune
Tampa Bay rookie DE Dre Moore got some words of warning from HC Jon Gruden, after reporting out of shape, one month after doing so at rookie camp. "He still has a long way to go to master playing pro football in this area of the country," Gruden said. "He's going to have stamina issues until he gets himself into great shape.
"And I think every defensive lineman, every 320-pound guy, will tell you that. But he's working at it. It means something to him and he's in good hands with strength and conditioning coaches Curtis Schultz and Mike Morris."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Translation: "Dre, you're not in Maryland anymore..." It's hot in Tampa and there is an acclimation involved. Moore had better be doing all he can to move that along as quickly as possible.
DEF - DAL - Cowboys DT Johnson To Have Expanded Role
Source: Associated Press, NFL.com
After missing the first half of the season last year due to an 8-game suspension for off-the-field issues, Cowboys DT Tank Johnson is looking forward to an expanded role this year, his first full season with the team. "Tank came in as an unknown certainly," Head Coach Wade Phillips said. "Finishing the season was good. ... Just his perseverance and his hard work and working hard in the offseason, he is a leader, which we didn't know about him."
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Add Johnson to the list of "salvaged" players the Cowboys have resurrected. He finished strong and he looks to have kept the momentum going. I thought it was interesting to hear Wade Philips talk about him as a leader. Good for him that he's turned things around.
DEF - DAL - Woman Involved With DB Adam Jones In Vegas Incident Found Dead
Source: David Kihara, Reveiw Journal
Sadia Morrison, the woman who was with Adam "Pacman" Jones during a 2007 melee at the Minxx strip club, has turned up dead in the Bronx.
Her friends and family think she was thrown off an apartment building. New York City police are investigating Morrison's death but are not providing many details. "We're looking at any and all possibilities," New York City Police Department spokesman Martin Brown said Wednesday.[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Very sad story. Adam Jones doesn't appear to be involved.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great Friday. Remember to order the Footballguys Magazine and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
