CAR - WR Carter Showing Flashes For Panthers
Source: Steve Reed, Carolinagrowl.com
Carolina Panthers WR Jason Carter has been getting some attention at the team's minicamp. Carter still has a long way to go to earn a spot with some talented WRs ahead of him.
"One guy that that has really been turning my head is Jason Carter," said veteran wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad. "He comes out here and makes plays every day. He's a guy that really hasn't made a big splash in the NFL yet, but I think he's a guy that can play."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There are a lot of WRs on the Panther's roster. Carter has an uphill battle on his hands but at least he's making a few positive waves.
PIT - RB Moore Confident With His Role
Source: John Harris, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Since Mewelde Moore signed as a free agent just a few months ago, the Steelers backfield has become even more crowded with the drafting of RB Rashard Mendenhall. Moore is still confident with his role as a Steeler backup and special teams contributor.
"I've been in situations where you build a stable and use every horse in the stable," Moore said. "When you're called upon, you have to make sure that you're capable and ready to do it. I've been here, and so far, I enjoy it."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Moore signed with Steelers coming from the Vikings before Pittsburgh drafted Mendenhall in the first round. But Moore doesn't seem to be too fazed. He knows he'll be part of a running back stable and seems ready to contribute where he's asked. We think Mendenhall will be the #2 RB right behind Willie Parker.
OAK - RB McFadden's Agent To Begin Contract Talks Soon
Source: David White, San Francisco Chronicle
The Oakland Raiders, looking to avoid a repeat of last season's contract dispute with first rounder QB JaMarcus Russell, have scheduled a meeting with the agent for RB Darren McFadden, the Raiders top choice in the May draft. The two sides will meet next week and expect a deal done sometime in June.

It's one thing to throw away a QB's rookie season. Russell might not have played all that much anyway. But McFadden is a guy that they'll expect to produce a lot this year. I think they'll be more apt to get him into camp early and ready for Week 1.

Former NFL K Mike Vanderjagt signed with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, a team he formerly kicked for prior to his stint with the Colts. Vanderjagt has been out of football since 2006, when he was released by the Cowboys.

We say it often because it's true: Things move pretty fast around here...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers resigned TE Jerramy Stevens. Stevens should compete for the starting TE job with Alex Smith.

Tampa seemed to warm up a bit to Stevens later in the year last season. He's shown flashes of greatness over the years in Seattle but has been too inconsistent. He could push Alex Smith though for playing time and production.
TB - Tampa Releases QB Gradkowski

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released QB Bruce Gradkowski.

I joke about Tampa having 17 QBs on the roster. It's not quite that bad and now with Gradkowski off, they're almost getting normal. They still have Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown, rookie Josh Johnson and Chris Simms on the roster though.
CHI - Bears QB Duel Could Last Through Preseason
Source: AP
Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith is prepared to let quarterbacks Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton compete for the team's starting spot until the fourth and last game of the preseason, though he's hoping it doesn't come to that.
"Ideally you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason," Smith said Saturday, following the second practice of a three-day minicamp at Halas Hall. "But we'll just let it play out. If it's not clear by then, we'll let it go right up until (preseason's end)."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Grossman or Orton? It's not exactly like having to choose between Montana and Young. I can see how this might take a while...
GB - Packers To Remove Favre's Locker And Give It To Him
Source: AP
A day after the future of Brett Favre's locker was debated by several national media outlets, the team said it will remove the stall following the mandatory minicamp in June and give it to Favre.
"Obviously, I didn't realize it was going to get this kind of attention," Packers general manager Ted Thompson told the Wisconsin State Journal on Thursday. "We talked to Brett and [his wife] Deanna several weeks ago, and we thought that anybody who played 16 years here as well as he did might want his own locker. I think it makes it a little easier, quite frankly, for the next guy to go into there."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The fact that Favre's locker was still in the Packers locker room raised some eyebrows. Rightly or wrongly. But the team quickly put it to rest as they'll be giving the locker to Favre.
NO - WR Colston Healthy And Ready
Source: AP
During the offseason, Saints WR Marques Colston had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and surgery on his left hand to remove bone spurs resulting from an injury sustained in the regular-season finale. Despite playing with the sore knee from training camp on, he caught 98 passes for 1,202 yards and 11 touchdowns.
"My main goal was just to get healthy again," Colston said between practices Saturday. "I feel like I did a pretty good job with that. I get a chance to use this minicamp and the rest of these (offseason workouts) to kind of fine-tune some things as far as football goes."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We expect Colston to lead the Saints WRs this year and obviously his health will be a huge factor in whether that happens or not. He sounds like he's back and ready to go.
DEF - MIA - Dolphins Players Hope For Best With DE Taylor
Source: Tim Graham, Palm Beach Post
Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown was asked whether he thought DE Jason Taylor would be there this year.
"I don't know," Brown said, standing on the pier of the Miami Beach Marina. "I have no idea. I'm just looking like everybody else. On my side, I'm hoping everything works out and he's here."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We should know more here soon on this. I wouldn't be surprised if coach Sparano backpedals on his talk that Taylor won't be there in training camp. We'll see.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Have a great Sunday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
