DEF - CHI - LB Briggs Signs One Year Deal With Bears ATL - Legal Expert: Vick 'Absolutely' Done For 2007 Season Source: Rich Eisen, NFL Network David Cornwell is the NFL Network's legal expert covering the Michael Vick arraignment in Virginia. He was asked by Rich Eisen: "Do you believe from a legal point of view that Michael Vick is done for the 07 season playing?" Cornwell responded: "Absolutely. Absolutely. He and Billy Martin (Vick's attorney) and the Commissioner and the Players Association should get that done sooner rather than later so he can focus on his defense."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Be sure to understand, this is just Cornwell's opinion. But it's an educated opinion by someone familiar with the process and close to the situation. I agree with him. ATL - Falcons RB Dunn Out Six Weeks With Herniated Disc Source: Ed Werder, ESPN Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn underwent surgery for a herniated disc last week and is expected to miss six weeks. It is the second procedure that the 32-year-old has had since the Falcons completed their season. In January, he had arthroscopic surgery for a damaged shoulder that bothered him much of the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ouch. The hits keep rolling for Atlanta. Jerious Norwood is clearly the guy that stands to benefit here if Dunn is limited. We already had Norwood projected slightly ahead of Dunn but clearly if Dunn isn't ready to contribute, that's big news for Norwood. KC - Chiefs Issue Statement Regarding RB Holmes Source: KCChiefs.com Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes informed GM Carl Peterson on Wednesday that he intends to report to training camp at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls on Saturday. Holmes has passed a physical and has been cleared to begin activities with the club. Holmes is under contract with the Chiefs through the 2009 campaign. Peterson received a call from Holmes' agent and indicated that Priest had made a decision that he wants to play. The Chiefs coordinated visits with the team's orthopedic physicians and specialists in Miami. Everyone conferred following the examination and it was the opinion of the doctors that Priest could play NFL football in 2007. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This one will be interesting to watch. Many feel that this is purely a negotiating ploy as Larry Johnson has been making lots of noise asking for a new contract. Let's see how much Holmes is able to do in camp before we do anything drastic but clearly, this puts a question mark over Larry Johnson. At least for the next few days until we see how Holmes looks. GB - Packers Sign Rookie RB Jackson Source: packers.com The Green Bay Packers have signed RB Brandon Jackson, the team's second-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing Wednesday. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news for Green Bay and Jackson. The Packers have been rumored to be interested in trading for Kansas City's Larry Johnson should that option become available. They don't appear to be totally content with their current running back situation. TEN - Titans Agree To Terms With WR Eric Moulds Source: AP The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with veteran WR Eric Moulds on Wednesday, adding some needed experience to the roster for QB Vince Young. "Eric is a proven and productive receiver in this league," general manager Mike Reinfeldt said in a statement. "He provides us a big target with sure hands and his veteran leadership is a valuable addition to our receiving corps." The 11-year veteran spent 2006 with Houston after playing for Buffalo his first 10 seasons in the NFL. He has caught at least 67 passes in each of his last nine seasons, which is more than anyone caught for Tennessee in 2006. With David Givens still recovering from a torn ACL, Moulds can help a receiving corps where Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams, a pair of draft picks going into their third season, currently are the projected starters.[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Finally the Titans add a receiver for Vince Young. They missed on Keyshawn Johnson but Moulds is a guy that they'll be glad to have. He's not the player he once was but he's a veteran that can help this team. IND - Colts Agree To Terms With WR Gonzalez Source: Scout.com Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez, the 32nd pick of last April's first round, has agreed in principle to a five year deal with the Indianapolis Colts. No terms were disclosed and are not expected to be released until Gonzalez signs the contract later this week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news for Gonzalez as he can focus on learning the offense and trying to find a way to contribute this season. No WR will go too crazy when sharing the field with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne but we still like his chances this season. CIN - Bengals RB Perry Expected To Miss First Six Weeks Source: Kevin Goheen, Cincinnati Post Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Perry is still rehabbing from surgery to repair a dislocated right ankle and is expected to miss at least the first six games of the season as he stays on the PUP list. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's sadly a familiar story but it looks like Chris Perry will again be missing an extended part of the season. DET - Lions RB Jones Not Ready For Contact Source: Nicholas J. Cotsonika, Detroit Free Press Rehab has gone according to plan for Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones, but his agent, Tony Fleming, said Jones would not be ready for hitting "any time soon." "He's definitely taking it slow," Fleming said. "The Lions are not rushing him back." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The goal is still for Jones to be ready Week 1 of the regular season. But that seems way less than certain right now. Many feel it's about a 50-50 proposition. Of course the guy that will benefit if Jones can't go is Tatum Bell. T.J. Duckett would also see some time as well. BAL - Ravens Place OT Odgen On PUP List Source: Jamison Hensley, Baltimore Sun As planned, the Ravens placed OT Jonathan Ogden on the physically unable to perform list for an "indeterminate amount of time," according to HC Brian Billick. Ogden hyperextened the big toe on his left foot last December and was told it would take up to six months to fully recover. The Ravens are confident Odgen, who will likely miss at least two weeks of training camp, will be ready for the regular season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This isn't unexpected but it's not good news either. The team doesn't seem overly worried but toe injuries can linger. On the other hand, a veteran player like Ogden doesn't mind missing a good portion of camp. PHI - Eagles Sign Second Round QB Kolb Source: Bob Kent, PhiladelphiaEagles.com The Eagles agreed to terms with highly scrutinized second round pick QB Kevin Kolb today. The 36th overall selection became the last Eagles draft pick to sign a contract, meaning all eight will report to camp on time. "I'm pumped," Kolb said in a press conference outside the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday. "It was getting down to the wire a little bit here and I think everyone was getting a little bit antsy. "I was getting a little bit nervous and I definitely wanted to be there (at training camp) with the rest of the guys, and especially not miss anything and get behind. That's my biggest fear."[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's a relief for Kolb to know he'll be in camp from the get go. This is obviously Donovan McNabb's team but Kolb is a guy that will do everything he can to be ready in case McNabb was injured. And as Eagles fans know, that's unfortunately not an out of the question situation. DEF - DAL - Cowboys LB Ellis Leaves Practice With Injury Source: Clarence E. Hill Jr., Fort Worth Star-Telegram Dallas Cowboys LB Greg Ellis, who was cleared to practice after rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg during the off-season, took himself out of some early drills and was later seen pointing toward his left leg while talking to the trainers. The Cowboys opened training camp Wednesday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tough news for Ellis and the Cowboys here. Let's not panic yet but clearly this is something we want to watch closely. Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult to recover from. DEF - CHI - LB Briggs Signs One Year Deal With Bears Source: Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com Two-time Pro Bowl LB Lance Briggs, who was unable to reach a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears as the team's designated franchise player, will sign the one-year qualifying offer worth $7.2 million, and report to camp on Thursday. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There reportedly is a deal in place that the Bears have agreed to not put the Franchise Tag on Briggs after this season if he participates in 75% of the plays on defense. Briggs talked a big game about holding out but as expected, the money that would be left on the table was simply too much. That'll do it for today, Folks. Have a great Thursday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update. J |
