Hi Folks,

Welcome to Friday. We've got plenty of News and Notes for you but we've got a ton of new features on the website as you can see.

But first, the Quote Of The Day:

"He said, 'I've been watching you at practice. I think you've got a chance to make our team. And I'm going to help you. When Nietzsche is snapping your face mask and breaking your nose. And Lombardi is screaming in your face. And there's blood everywhere and you don't think you can take another step, you look at me and I'll get you through it.'

He didn't just help me to play in the NFL for ten years. He changed my life."

-- Former Packer Bill Curry on Willie Davis and how pulling together as a team helped ease racial tensions. Curry is white and Davis is black.

OK, let's get to it. Have a great Friday.

GB - KC - Packers Possibly Still Eyeing RB Johnson

Source: Lance Allen, TMJ4-TV In Milwaukee

TMJ4 Sports Anchor Lance Allan was told by an NFL source that the Packers are keeping a very close eye on the Larry Johnson situation in Kansas City.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As we're fond of saying, very often the "real" story isn't really about the subject of the article. When you hear the Packers are looking at Larry Johnson, that's as much a story about Vernand Morency and Brandon Jackson than it is Larry Johnson. Scouts Inc recently rated the Packers backfield as #32 backfield in the league. And for what it's worth, I'll be shocked if the Chiefs allow Larry Johnson to go anywhere.

BAL - SD - OT Gaither, CB Oliver Selected In Supplemental Draft

Source: NFL.com

The San Diego Chargers selected cornerback Paul Oliver of Georgia with the 28th pick in the fourth round of today's Supplemental Draft. The Baltimore Ravens picked Maryland tackle Jared Gaither in the fifth round at pick 31. With these selections, San Diego and Baltimore thus forgo the corresponding picks in the 2008 NFL Draft. There were no other players selected.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some were a little surprised that Gaither only merited a 5th round pick. That seems like a nice value for Baltimore. There have been a few questions raised about Oliver's speed but he looks like he's landing in a great situation in San Diego.

NYG - Giants HC Coughlin Seeks Leader

Source: Paul Schwartz, New York Post

Giants HC Tom Coughlin said he had never expereinced such drama as he did last season within the team's locker room. Coughlin's biggest concern was that internal matters were regularly being exposed publicly. He hopes someone will step forward and help take command of team chemistry. "There's always been a regard for teammates and team in anything I've been around or anything I've been able to shape. I think we need to be more aware of that," he said. On what he's looking for from anyone willing to take on a leadership role: "Responsibility is the key there, if you're truly a leader, the responsibility you have is for your team, not for you as an individual."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

I wonder if he was looking at Eli Manning when he said this? Coughlin denied that this was a backhanded swipe at Tiki Barber who didn't have any problem bucking Coughlin's company line.

DEN - Broncos WR Marshall Re-Injures Left Thigh

Source: Jeff Legwold, Rocky Mountain News

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was held out of most of Tuesday's practice session after re-injuring his left thigh.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the Broncos wrapping up minicamp, they'll let Marshall rest until training camp starts. We're not panicked over this but it's worrisome that this has been a recurring injury. With Rod Smith trying to return from injury, the Broncos are counting on Marshall.

NE - WR Brown Assured Of Role

Source: Mike Reiss, Boston Globe

Wide receiver Troy Brown was publicly assured by coach Bill Belichick that he'd have a role on the Patriots in 2007. Those plans have been consummated, with Brown agreeing on financial terms of a one-year deal, according to a league source.

The final step to officially finalize the contract will be working out language within the deal.

Brown, who turned 36 on July 2, enters his 15th season with the Patriots, the longest tenure of any player. The only player who spent more seasons with the Patriots in team history is quarterback Steve Grogan (16, 1975-1990).

The delay in finalizing Brown's return was health related, as he had undergone knee surgery this offseason. Although he was technically a free agent, Brown continued to work out at Gillette Stadium over the offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More followup on yesterday's story regarding Troy Brown. It looks like he'll have a role as has been expected. It'll be a crowded WR corps for certain. One of those "roles" for Brown might not show up directly in the stat box: He'll likely be a positive influence for his fellow Marshall alum Randy Moss.

DEF - CIN - Bengals LB Pollack To Miss 2007 Season

Source: Geoff Hobson, Bengals.com

The Cincinnati Bengals confirmed that LB David Pollack will miss the 2007 season to further heal a serious neck injury. Pollack fractured his C-6 vertebrae on a tackle in the second game of the 2006 season. Physicians have determined that it would be too soon for Pollack to try to play this season.

We wish Pollack the best in his recovery.

DEF - OAK - Raiders Sign LB Kacyvenski

Source: CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski on Thursday.

Kacyvenski impressed the Raiders during a tryout in voluntary minicamp last month. He spent his first six NFL years in Seattle, helping the Seahawks reach the Super Bowl following the 2005 season, and was with St. Louis last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another veteran player joins the Raiders. This defense is already extremely solid. Kacyvenksi will hopefully make it even better. He's one of my favorite players in the league rising from very humble beginnings. His family lived in a tent for a few months when he was young and sometimes ate from trashcans. His mother was killed when he was in high school. Kacyvenski kept pursuing his goal of playing in the NFL and eventually went to Harvard where he played four years before being drafted by Seattle. I'm pulling for him.
