DEF - DT Johnson's BAC Was Below Legal Limit

Source: Associated Press, ESPN

Former Chicago Bears DT Tank Johnson's blood test results show that he was below the legal limit of 0.8 percent when he was arrested on June 22 on the suspicion of drunk driving. Johnson's blood-work revealed that had a blood alcohol level of 0.72. Johnson could still be charged with "impairment to the slightest degree", which usually accompanies other charges. Johnson was released by the Bears three days after his arrest. The Chicago Bears declined to comment.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been an interesting ride for Johnson. The Bears stuck by him through his time in jail and through the other issues he went through. But eventually they wound up letting him go over an issue that compared to his other troubles, was minor. But it's understandable how it played out. Johnson knew he was on "double secret probation" and just the arrest was enough. On the positive, this should clear the way for some teams that might be interested in signing Johnson. If his test had showed that Johnson was over the alcohol limit, that likely would have merited more attention from the league which would have hurt his chances with new teams.

NE - HC Belichick Hopeful Regarding RB Maroney

Source: Mike Reiss, Boston Globe

When asked if RB Laurence Maroney is he going to be healthy for the start of training camp, New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick said the following on WEEI Radio: "We'll have to see how that comes along. I'm sure he'll be close. He's doing well. He's worked extremely hard this offseason. I'm sure he'll be ready to go. What the exact time will be, we'll wait and see how that comes along. But I'm sure he'll be ready to go."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you've watched Bill Belichick much, you that this many words on Maroney was effectively gushing from him. This is about what we were thinking after the Patriots stopped pursuing (then) free agent Chris Brown who later signed with Tennessee. Watch this one closely. With Corey Dillon out of the picture, a healthy Laurence Maroney could be a huge player in this offense.

BUF - Bills Give P Moorman Extension

Source: Chris Brown,

Buffalo Bills punter Brian Moorman, who has been selected to back-to-back Pro Bowls the past two seasons, agreed to a multi-year extension Monday. "I don't think you find a team that often that's willing to commit to a player in this regard," said Moorman. "So I feel very lucky to be part of an organization like this and play for an owner like Mr. Wilson who was willing to do that."

Dallas Cowboys punter Mat McBriar and Carolina Panthers punter Jason Baker were both given five-year contracts each worth $8.5M. The total value of Moorman's new contract now puts him among the top paid punters in the NFL.

Good for Moorman and good for the Bills. Few players can have as much impact on field position as the punter. Moorman is one of the best and the Bills are paying him accordingly.

OAK - Raiders Not Planning To Rush RB Bush On To Field

Source: Jason Jones, Sacramento Bee

The Oakland Raiders reportedly will not be planning to rush rookie running back Michael Bush back on to the field as he continues to recover from a broken leg. Bush, however, is very anxious to get back on to the field. "I'm looking to play," Bush said. "It's just a bone injury. Those heal. It's already been about nine months, so it's about time for me to get going."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bush has his work cut out for him in a backfield that includes LaMont Jordan, Dominic Rhodes, and Justin Fargas. Let's see how he looks in training camp.

SF - 49ers RB Robinson Slight Favorite To Be Back-Up To RB Gore

Source: Matt Maiocco, Santa Rosa Press Democrat

According to Matt Maiocco at the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, San Francisco 49ers RB Michael Robinson currently has a slight edge over RB Maurice Hicks and rookie RB Thomas Clayton for the back-up running back role behind RB Frank Gore.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Like everyone else, we love Frank Gore. But don't forget that he's a guy that's had major durability problems having had surgery on both shoulders and both knees in the past. In others words, know who the backup is here. There's a lot to be seen between now and Week 1, but right now it looks like Robinson has the inside track.

CAR - Panthers OG Batiste Claims Race Had Role In His Arrest

Source: Associated Press, via Sports Illustrated

Carolina Panthers guard D'Anthony Batiste recently claimed in an interview that his recent for a concealed weapons charge, which was thrown out by a judge on Friday, was racially motivated. "When the arrest happened, I called some of my supervisors back in Louisiana," Batiste said. "As soon as I'd explain it, all of them said 'D, something's not right about this.' We're all kind of under the impression I was arrested for driving while black." Batiste was fined $110 for failing to update his driver's license when he moved to North Carolina last fall, but reportedly faces no additional charges as a result of the incident.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Batiste is a former deputy so he's familiar with the business. The police department said he was pulled over for having windows tinted too dark. And then found the concealed weapon. The allowable light transmission for window tint is 35% and Batiste's windows only allowed 8% light transmission.

DAL - WR Owens Sues Nightclub Over Use Of His Name & Photo

Source: Yahoo! / AP

Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens filed a $600,000 lawsuit, contending his name and photo were used in nightclub ads without his permission.

Owens says the Avalon nightclub on Manhattan's West Side improperly used his name, likeness and initials T.O. in 2006 and 2007 to promote its Friday Night Lights events and other parties. He says the club claimed he would be hosting the parties.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No real football value here. I'm sure Cowboy fans would much rather be reading news like this regarding Owens as opposed to a conflict on the team.

DEF - PHI - Eagles DT Reagor Near 100 Percent

Source: Josh Wheeling,

Philadelphia Eagles DT Montae Reagor, who finished last season on the non-football injury list, has been participating in the team's OTAs. While Reagor has only participated in individual drills so far, he expects to be 100 percent by the start of training camp. "I'm feeling good," said Reagor. "I'm doing drills, and feel everything coming back - my mobility, my quickness, so now it's just going to get down to the nitty gritty. I'll get there in (training) camp and not push it too hard, ease my way into it, but I'm looking forward to it."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nice to see Reagor getting healthy here. Let's see how he fares in training camp when the pads go on.

DEF - LB Arrington Released From Hospital

Source: Associated Press via NBC Sports

NFL free-agent linebacker LaVar Arrington was released from the hospital Monday, two weeks after breaking his right arm and severely cutting his leg in a motorcycle accident. "He's doing much better," said Arrington's attorney, Rosalyn Pugh. "I won't say he's 100 percent, but he's doing better." Pugh said Arrington had a limp from a gash in his leg as he left the hospital, and will also need time to recover from the broken bone in his right forearm. She had no timetable for Arrington's full recovery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good for Arrington. This likely puts his 2007 season in jeopardy but we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
