Mark Wimer bio
Occupation: Writer
College: B.A. in Philosophy (History Minor), Hastings College
Birthplace: Hastings, NE
Current location: Macon, GA
Family: I am married to my college sweetheart, a 6'1" tall, red-headed Valkyrie named Peg - she loves football, fantasy football, and reading (just like I do).
I am fortunate to have a beautiful 3 year old daughter named Rhiannon Aislyn, who loves to get out her "My First NFL Book" each Sunday. She knows that numbers lower than 20 mean quarterback, and she knows the difference between defensive linemen and linebackers - we're still working on defensive alignments, but she'll probably learn to recognize nickel and dime this year before she turns 4.
Favorite NFL team: The Carolina Panthers - I was living in Charlotte when the franchise was awarded to the city, and have enjoyed many a game in their very fine stadium.
Favorite thing about fantasy football: Winning.
If I was Paul Tagliabue for a day...: I would unretire and continue to lead the NFL into the next decade.
Something odd/different about you: I collect swords (only reproductions, so far), and I own a copy of the Herbert Clark Hoover translation of Georgius Agricola's "De Re Metallica". Yes, the 31st President of the United States - he was the son of a Quaker blacksmith and a very erudite scholar. "De Re Metallica" was the metallurgist's bible during the Middle Ages/Renaissance (when sword-making was at it's height).
See, there is a connection!
Brush with greatness: The first time my daughter spontaneously told me "I love you Daddy". I have never felt better.
Favorite Movie(s): The Unforgiven
Braveheart
True Grit
The Longest Day
Favorite CD(s)/album(s): Metallica:
Kill Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
Beethoven's 9th Symphony
Orff's Carmina Burana
Biggest vice: R.C. Cola and Moon Pies
Pet peeve: Hollywood celebrities who think their stardom qualifies them as political analysts/commentators.
Quote: "Fortune favors the Brave"
Hobbies: Furniture making, canoeing/fishing, reading, poker.
Dream car: 1970 Oldsmobile 442, hardtop, bright yellow with black racing stripes and a black leather interior.
Favorite Vacation Spot?: Fernandina Beach, Florida. One of the few coastal Florida towns as yet unspoilt by rampant tourism.
If I could have one superpower, what would it be?: Super-Speed-Keyboarding - I'd love to squeeze more productivity out of the hours I spend writing.
