Week 14 Upgrades/Downgradesby David Dodds and Clayton Gray, Exclusive to

Upgrades
He had a key 28 yard run on 3rd and 19 with the game on the line. His running ability improves his chance each week to have a decent game. He is not as skilled as Byron Leftwich but draws some favorable matchups down the stretch.
He is averaging 265 passing yards and 2 TDs a game over the last 3 weeks. With Priest Holmes out, this team passes a bit more. The addition of tackle Willie Roaf also frees Tony Gonzalez to run a lot more routes.
Kyle Orton is regressing. He has just 338 yards passing (and 2 TDs) over the last 3 games. The Bears are winning despite his bad play. This team is playoff bound, but doubtful they will be able to do much with Orton behind center.
Johnson is producing decent stats these days. He could be huge this week against the Rams.
Martin doesn’t excite us, but Act 2 of the Ryan Fitzpatrick Show was a flop. Jamie, how many fingers am I holding up? That’s correct – get back in there son.
Gus Frerotte left the game with a concussion, and Sage rallied the team to an impressive win. Frerotte was never a long-term answer here so we could see Sage getting the start very soon.
The word is that Tuiasosopo will start this week in place of the struggling Kerry Collins.
Warner and the Cardinals passing game are flourishing now. Over the last three weeks, he has put up top three fantasy QB stats.
Marcel Shipp is hobbled, so Arrington is getting the vast majority of the work. Of course Arizona doesn’t exactly grind out rushing yardage, but Arrington is still the main ball-carrier.
He has not scored in the last three weeks, but he is putting up huge yardage numbers. He has 436 combined yards over the last 3 games.
Mewelde Moore was hurt returning a punt and Bennett responded in a big way. He finished with 79 yards on 22 carries and scored a TD. He also caught 3 passes. Moore will likely return to the starting lineup, but Bennett is at least a viable option should he go down again.
Davis gained 171 total yards against the Ravens. Over the last three weeks, he has put up top ten fantasy RB numbers.
Finally healthy enough to play, Dillon managed only 84 total yards, but he did find the end zone. With New England’s easy schedule (Buffalo, Tampa Bay, NY Jets, and Miami), Dillon and the Patriots should score well to end the season.
In his first game after spending eight weeks on the sidelines, Faulk was given 14 touches (four catches) and gained 81 total yards. Those aren’t outstanding numbers, but he could help you in a point per reception league.
Foster was huge against the Falcons as he went for 180 total yards and a pair of TDs. He has easily surpassed Stephen Davis in productivity. As long as Foster remains healthy, he’ll be a quality fantasy back.
The team has just two wins (and we aren’t sure how they got that many). It is now playing just to see who makes the team next year. Barlow was out this past week with a sore knee. We would not be surprised to see the team use a lot more Gore down the stretch for evaluation purposes (especially with Reggie Bush likely coming out and being a top draft pick).
Johnson has a monster day against a very good Broncos defense as he gained 140 rushing yards and scored twice. He has definitely joined the ranks of LaDainian Tomlinson and Shaun Alexander as the premier fantasy backs.
Johnson has put up excellent numbers lately. Over the last three weeks, he has gained 288 rushing yards and scored six TDs.
Jones didn’t have a great rushing day (23 carries for 74 yards), but he made up for it by catching 9 balls for 88 yards. Plus, Marion Barber III was only given two carries.
Kevin Jones was unable to go and Pinner shined in relief. He may have moved ahead of Bryson when Jones returns. Pinner had 103 combined yards and a TD (on just 14 carries and 3 receptions) on Sunday.
Lately, when Taylor and Jamal Lewis are both healthy, Taylor has been the one getting more looks. That was the case Sunday when Taylor slightly out-touched (12 to 11) and out-produced (46 yards to 40) Lewis. At worst for Taylor, this is a time sharing situation. At best, Taylor will get more and more looks as the season winds down
On Sunday, Williams had more carries (11 to 9), more receptions (six to two), and more yards from scrimmage (78 to 52) than Ronnie Brown. Simply put, right now Williams is the more productive back in Miami.
Another week goes by with Boldin turning in another huge performance. Over the last three weeks, he leads the league in receptions, receiving yards, and WR fantasy points.
Bryant had become Cleveland’s #2 WR, but he gets the upgrade because Braylon Edwards suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Without Edwards, Bryant will be counted on to produce in the passing game.
Usually, when we talk about 26 targets, we take about a three week period. For Chambers, we’re talking about week 13. He hauled in 15 catches for an eye-popping 238 yards and the game-winning score.
We are hesitant to upgrade a WR from Baltimore, but there has been talk recently of getting Clayton more involved. Judging from his week 13 performance (seven catches for 86 yards), it is happening. Those aren’t outstanding numbers, but Clayton is a guy that could be decent down the stretch.
Evans had five catches for 117 yards and three scores. We think he might be J.P. Losman’s favorite WR.
While Anquan Boldin is getting the majority of the work, Fitzgerald is turning out excellent production as well. He has been a top ten WR all season long.
Not just a sidekick of Chad Johnson, Houshmandzadeh has been a top 15 fantasy WR this season, but he has really turned it on lately (19 catches for 282 yards and three TD over the last three weeks). Truthfully, we’d upgrade him more often, but typing his name is just too much of a burden.
The Kansas City passing attack is clicking well right now. Kennison is drawing single coverage often as defenses look to stop Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez. Over the last three weeks, he has put up 230 yards and 2 scores.
He has emerged as the #2 WR and is someone Drew Brees is actively targeting. Over the last 3 games, he has 216 combined yards and 2 scores.
Something tells us that the only reason Koren Robinson hasn’t easily been the top WR in Minnesota is because he signed with the team too late in the preseason. As the weeks have ticked off, Robinson has been more involved and more productive. With Nate Burleson “not Nate” according to HC Mike Tice, Robinson is easily the team’s most explosive WR.
To paraphrase Sterling Sharpe, Ward just keeps having special games when special games are needed. He was huge against the Bengals (nine catches for 135 yards and two TDs).
Fletcher doesn’t catch a lot of balls (only 13 all season), but he has scored in three straight games.
Hilton has been a top 10 fantasy TE over the last three weeks. He is likely a free agent in your league.
He is becoming more and more active in the passing game. He caught 4 passes for 50 yards on Sunday.
Erron Kinney left the game due to injury. If this is a prolonged injury, Troupe could see a lot more action. He caught 5 passes for 67 yards on Sunday.
The Texan's are starting to actually move the chains decently. They struggle in the redzone though (with a small offensive line) which helps out Kris. He had 5 FGs yesterday to lead all kickers.
The Bears are all about defense these days. The offense often stalls, but the defense creates a short field which is a kicker's dream. He had 4 FGs and 1 extra point on Sunday.
The Chargers are scoring a lot of points each week. We expect Kaeding will continue to see a lot of chances in the kicking game.
Novak went three for three in his first game in place of the injured Neil Rackers. It’s apparent that whoever kicks for the Cardinals will be a top fantasy PK.
The Chiefs offense is absolutely rolling, and Tynes is kicking well (12 PATs and six FGs with no misses) in the last three weeks.
They gave up 474 yards but continued to get turnovers. They had 3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery and had 2 sacks on Sunday.
Four interceptions and 2 sacks while allowing just 3 points. Now that is impressive.
They had 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 sacks frustrating Dallas at every turn. They were the big reason the Giants won on Sunday as Eli Manning struggled.
Downgrades
Bledsoe is struggling right now. Over the last three weeks, he has thrown for 488 yards and three TDs while also running in a score. That’s not even good enough to be a top 25 fantasy QB.
Nothing has been announced, but it looks like Collins will get benched this week in favor of Marques Tuiasosopo in an effort to jumpstart the struggling Oakland offense.
So that’s what 15 minutes of fame looks like.
An old veteran playing on a team that won't make the playoffs would already indicate a change could be in order. The fact that Sage Rosenfels led a great comeback is probably a dagger in the coffin.
As bad as Harrington has looked, Garcia is at least close. He had just 126 yards on 35 passing attempts. He did not score and threw an interception.
Six for 17 for 68 yards and an interception. He is regressing badly.
The Bucs allowed just 3 points so Simms managed the game perfectly (12 for 21 with no interceptions). But as a fantasy option, his 123 passing yards and 1 TD made him a terrible play again.
Barber was only given two carries against the Giants while Julius Jones went wild for 162 total yards from scrimmage.
He is nicked up and the team is likely going to evaluate Frank Gore a lot more in the coming weeks.
Ricky Williams is getting more looks and is gaining more yards than is Brown. The rookie still has a role and will have a handful of touches each game, but he is not an every week starter.
Davis is definitely taking a back seat to the younger DeShaun Foster. The old man will still get the one-yard TDs, but right now, Foster is not stopping at the one.
With Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk back, Evans won’t see the ball very often.
Faulk had a carry and no catches against the Redskins - not much value there.
With Chester Taylor healthy and the Ravens terrible on offense, Lewis won’t get enough looks to be productive.
Martin has some easy games remaining on the schedule, but the Patriots were supposed to be easy for Martin to exploit as well.
Moore had one carry before leaving with an ankle injury. The early word is that he will probably play this week and continue as the starter, but we are getting very tired of seeing Michael Bennett finish games for the Vikings.
There won’t be many touches available for Pass now that Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk are healthy again.
The Patriots have been struggling badly in the secondary, but held Coles to only 35 yards on 4 catches. Brooks Bollinger is still wildly too inconsistent to trust anyone in the passing game to put up numbers each week.
Edwards caught two TDs on Sunday, but he also tore an ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.
He has just 513 yards and 1 TD through 13 weeks. He was double-covered most of the day yesterday and when Brooks did try and get Horn the ball, the pass was usually intercepted.
Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
We know Jones is inconsistent, but we just can’t get over zero catches.
If we knew that J.P. Losman would throw for 224 yards and three TDs, we would never guess Moulds would end up with zero catches.
The Bears keep winning with defense and a solid ground attack. That’s great for the team but terrible for Muhammad. It’s not that surprising that he didn’t have a catch Sunday when you consider that Kyle Orton only completed six balls all day.
There just isn’t enough passing game to go around to make Clark a viable fantasy start.
He has been injured on and off all year. He left the game with a stinger in this one. He is too inconsistent to have in your lineup right now.
He left the game injured. We can see the team trying to get Ben Troupe a lot more involved in the passing game going forward.
Pollard has only seven catches for 37 yards in the last three weeks.
Longwell has only kicked five PATs and a single FG in the last three weeks. Horrible.
He will miss a few weeks with a calf injury.
The Bills have forced three turnovers and only accumulated five sacks in the last three weeks. Even more worrisome is their psyche after giving up a 21-point lead against the Dolphins. This is not the defense we expected to see back in the preseason.
